Why does the game hide everything cool from us?
sachad replied to Sebidee's topic in General Discussion
When they add more vehicles, they will also become a LOT more difficult to operate. Good luck getting your car rolling when you need to find the engine block or a steering wheel, and then carry it all the way back before having to get the gas to start the engine. And how do you even know how vehicles will be when the game is released? Not even the devs fully know that. That is why we're testing them first. You also seem to be under the impression that testing means everyone should just have a go. That's not how testing works. Enough people are finding vehicles that there is plenty of feedback on them already. And the game is not rigged against anyone, everyone has a fair chance. And if you want to improve your odds, go play experimental. Assuming you don't die from starvation, newly added items are more abundant. -

I think that there will be more vehicles in the final release. The truck is only one of them, there will be plenty of cars and jeeps too. When they are around more then all of you hardcore survivalists here will be complaining (and I'll be there to to tell you to stop being a bitch). However, I think that the devs have added only a few trucks right now because they are all of the TRUCKS that will be there on release. The other vehicles will be added along side them to bring up the total numbers. My problem with that though is that right now the vehicles are not simulating what they will be like at release, which is what we are supposed to be testing. So why not put more trucks in in place of the other planned vehicles? Then they can replace them as they make the models for the new vehicles. We need to know what the game and the vehicle situation will be like on release, so add more (maybe like they were in experimental). Then we can test them and the devs can get their feedback. Simple. That's what they have been doing with guns the whole time. At the start there were tons of mosins and M4s, now there are less since they have been replaced by other guns. The total numbers of guns on servers has not decreased, but the numbers of certain kinds of guns has. Why not do the same for vehicles? -

People complain about broken mechanics - "This is alpha! We're here for testing!" People complain about item rarity - "Testing is not an excuse!" We had like ~50 vehicles per server (regular settings) in the mod and they were quite rare with most of them being hidden in some forests, bushes, barns. Now we have 3 trucks per server, while we're stil supposed to test those vehicles. No wonder people are confused. -

Spawns will increase for vehicles down the line. They are hard to find now, I agree - I've never found one yet either. But again, if you want to play with the latest features, opt into Experimental, where the new additions are usually much more common. -

I have to disagree. That DOES make a good game when it comes to DayZ. While finding individual cool things should not be extremely hard, having and holding many of the cool items of the game should certainly take time and effort. If you could be fully kitted within minutes, or even a few hours, what's the point of gearing up and surviving to begin with? If everything's just given to you, we'd have kitted guys with vehicles all over the place carelessly PVP'ing. Part of the fear of death lies with the rarity of high value items. You say that you have to play "hours and hours of boring gameplay just to get something cool". If you're playing to get cool things, you're doing it wrong - and of course it will be boring. Play for the survival, interaction, and hairy situations that DayZ throws you into - not for the loot. If you survive these experiences, chances are you'll come across some of the cooler items in the game and have a good time in the process. This of course has it's limits when you consider the current status of DayZ, but I find I have the most fun when I try to encompass myself in the game and play for the experience. I don't pay much attention to new items as they're added to the game and thus don't usually search for them specifically, but I'm always happy when I find them as I play! :) All being said, it's of course a WIP and loot, along with the central economy, will be ironed out in the next few months. And to some extent - you're absolutely right. Certain items you'll likely never find, but I think the problem lies more with server hoppers and an unfinished loot economy rather then the intentions of the DEVs. -
Just saying that either it's working, not working, or has bugs - all understatements. This feature holy pisses me off, simply because there has been and still is hardly no dev information coming forth about it. GSP's say anything to pacify and close support queries. DevTeam - GSP communication? Take a guess. Nothing is uniform to date. I'll add my wiggle again though. What the fuck is going on or shaping up, what is persistence system data looking like internally, and what/when will the community receive updates on it? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maybe I should've just said: Yeah man, my stuff randomly disappears too. As in not one or a few things, but everything that was ever placed anywhere by anybody - A.K.A. crashes But sometimes, persistence doesn't even really 'crash/reset'... sometimes it takes a step or 2 backwards. Example? Tents that were deployed will be packed up, sitting there, a couple hours later after a restart. Some items placed in one location will teleport back to a previous location. Various other oddities that will just be ignored. Don't say it's player interaction/theft, yada yada, just STFU. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Making feedback tickets doesn't get you anywhere. At this point it's like a 'GSP says it's the devs' & 'devs say its the GSP' type of stalemate. Everybody knows it's in development, hell so is every other feature. But persistence needs to get some spotlight shined on it so somebody will shit out some details. Not only tents and current items, but also vehicles and future features all depend on persistence in some fashion. Too many people think persistence is just about how you get loot. Newsflash bitches, it's tied to everything 'immersive' or continuous about this game in the coming months. We apparently see what's been worked on during the last few months of 'dev-blogging'... but I haven't seen shit about persistence or status about an impactful gameworld being priority. They could say it's placeholder, say it's in the new tech, say peanut butter jelly time with a wiffle ball bat comming soonTM. Just put something of substance after that first something. Bohemia isn't Blizzard. 90% of the people that are going to buy the Standalone, have probably already bought it, so information on core features isn't the devil. Unless the team traded the devil they knew for the one they didn't. Oh wait...

solodude23 replied to Sebidee's topic in General Discussion
Remember it's still just the first iteration. I haven't even tried looking for a V3S since experimental since they're not tied to persistence anyway so chances are I'd loose it soon after finding one. I hope someday, once vehicles are repairable, that there will be more vehicles per server in various conditions that players are competing to fix up and take for themselves. Edit: Also, don't expect vehicles to ever "end the running simulator". They're not intended to and anyone with a valuable opinion likely wouldn't say so. Think of them more as an added element to the game that are not without their own drawbacks. Between finding vehicles, finding their parts, repairing them, finding fuel, and avoiding detection, they'll never be easy to attain or keep a hold of - and that's really where the fun lies. -
Make sure you read the info for connecting with DayZ Commander at the bottom, if you don't, you will most likely get kicked as soon as you connect to the server if you do not have it setup properly. I recommend using DayZ Launcher, at least until Commander gets updated to work properly with the steam version. New groups of 3 or more get a small starter kit with a vehicle and wood building supplies. New single players get a free ATV that is lockable. Server Features: Custom Kill messages in top left corner Extended clothing/skin system by zupa (wear all arma/overwatch skins. FYI, certain skins cause battleye filter kicks, if you get kicked, make sure you let me know so I can whitelist the skin so it doesn't kick for it anymore.) Vehicle pointer (right click a key to find the vehicle it belongs to) Wicked AI mission system Change view distance with binoculars or rangefinders. Crash loot (get some of your stuff back if your vehicle explodes) Single Currency with banks Server Menu in scroll wheel menu (List of tips and server rules) Group Management Lift/Tow Vehicles (Still tweaking, if you find a vehicle that cannot be towed/lifted, but similar ones can be, let an admin know) Walking Zombies JAEM (Evac Chopper) Fmission Epoch Events (In progress, working on getting errors fixed) Right click Binoculars/Rangefinders to change view distance (You spawn with binoculars) Indestructible Cinder, Metal, and some wood items like stairs and ladders Safezone Godmode, including vehicles as long as the owner is in the safezone. Combo key changer (Safes, doors, etc...) Vehicle Deployment (Bike, motorcycle, mozzie with realistic requirements) Snap Building Pro with Vectors IED Crafting (Right click menu for american hand grenade/M67) Right click self bloodbag No plot required to build Caves on map (Great for clan/group bases) Military outpost at NWAF Military outpost at Balota Airfield Custom trader cities thanks to Ghost of Chernarus map pack Custom Trader city for special vehicles and Overwatch items. (Working on more special traders to be placed there) Go here for more up-to-date info: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/TOOLSgaming/discussions/1/624075566977385595/ More features are in the works as well as alot more custom buildings. Also working on getting a headless client setup and working and then creating AI cities with high loot as well as random AI patrols. Check out JSRS here if you don't know what it is. JSRS on Armaholic.com http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=11549 JSRS is optional, but if you want to use it, make sure your computer can handle the extra load from the new higher quality sounds. Go here for an install guide. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/TOOLSgaming/discussions/1/624075566977361167/ Come check it out 64.94.238.117:2301 If you use DayZ commander YOU MUST set it up properly or you will get instantly kicked as soon as you join, make sure you add these launch parameters to DayZ Commander or whatever launcher you use. " -mod=@DayzOverwatch;@DayZEpoch;" Copy everything inside the quotes, make sure you get the space in front of the "-mod" DayZ Launcher works fine though, so if you have it setup for overpoch, you should be able to get right in. If for some reason you are using DayZ Commander and our server shows 10000 ping after you have played on it, most likely it is the bug with Commander and the new steam ports, you can still join by double clicking the server, or by searching for "order" in commander, it should find our server twice and one should show ping. I would however recommend that you use DayZ Launcher, or Play With Six. We are still tweaking our battleye filters, so if you have any issues, send an email to [email protected] or join our TS3 server at 64.94.238.117 or use the URL orderofmastertools.com We can't fix it if you don't let us know that it is a problem. I have been seeing alot of people connect and disconnect nearly instantly, make sure you double check you launch parameters to make sure they are correct. If they are not right, the server will kick you as soon as you join. We also have a TS3 server at 64.94.238.117:9987 or you can use the URL orderofmastertools.com. Public channels available already, and we can create a private channel for your group if you request one, contact me or one of my admins if you have a group of 3 or more and we will happily create a private channel for you. Hope to see you there.

Some players said that. The devs never gave a reason to raise the expectations as high as saying vehicles would end all the running once and for all. -

I think what annoys me most is that people said that 'vehicles would change the game and end the running simulator' and then they add 3 per server! -

In my book, best endgame for DayZ rather than vehicles and base building, would be electricity. If it was up to me,i would make it so that access to advanced actions, crafting and maintenance, are only achieved by the help of a generator. So in return the valuable fuel resources to keep them running would become a mean of currency among survivors. Be it to run your electric fence, your installed cctv circuit, your kitchen, fridge, your welding gear to fully repair and upgrade your vehicle,or to make advanced building a generator should be essential and your ticket to "luxury".

Don't hop for a truck at each town....that's decreacing your odds me thinks. If you check a site on one servr and its empty the chance at the next site will go up a bit as theres less left to check total. If you check 1 site per server chances are always gonna be the same because you haven't actually cleared the other sites in that server....example you check town A swap server and check town B swap and check C....you never checked A in the server your now in and the truck could have spawned there, basically when you swap you reset your chances because the sites behind you haven't been cleared so become poss spawns again :) Maybe try different goals like lets try and get to X location and see whats there, then just take whatever gear you find along the way. A goal like getting somewhere rather than trying for one of best items ingame is much more achievable so you wont get frustrated and feel like your failing. But disappointment and dayz go together , wait till vehicles persist and every span is empty because they are all hidden by players....maybe keeping the numbers low is preparing us for that :) -

I'll admit Dayz can be frustrating especially when you're trying to find a few specific items. Most of the fun I've had in Dayz comes from the journey and the people I encounter, good or bad. Finding guns in Dayz is easy at the moment but if you're looking for an m4, any AK variant you may need to check several military barracks or if you're lucky enough to find chopper crashes. You may need to check different servers as well, I tend to find more on servers with persistence off but persistence on servers have good loot, you just have to search a bit harder. Yes, trekking across the map on foot can be boring but when vehicles get moved to stable build things will get easier. Keep at it, the videos you're watching can be helpful to nail down where things spawn but don't expect these things to be there waiting for you. Server hoppers and other players may have beat you to the things you're looking for and by all means pick up that useless gun because once you pass it up, you'll find a magazine or ammo for said gun and then you'll have to backtrack and waste time.....or at least that's my experience -

Machetes do the job of hunting knives, and are common as dog muck. Finding parts for a fishing rod is not that difficult, either. Hooks are slightly rarer, but I've never had much trouble finding them, even when sticking to smaller towns - try looting every last house, outbuilding and shed systematically. Likewise, the materials for crafting bows and arrows are pretty easy to come by. Pistol magazines, I agree, are absurdly rare. You have to spend more time in police stations and military areas to get these, which carries more risk. In general, I think the spawn chances should be altered so that anything can, in theory, spawn anywhere (except for loot reserved for dynamic vehicles spawns). There should be a higher % chance of military kit spawning at military locations and civilian kit spawning in houses, etc, but should always be a very slight possibility that any spawn point will generate any item. That way, you wouldn't be able to get used to which buildings definitely will and definitely won't spawn certain items, thereby making the game more dynamic and interesting. -
[Hardcore] SurvivalCore.de #4 shinyZ Epoch. New Kind of DayZ
Torkmastaflex replied to shinysonic's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Bump. This server is very hardcore :D Some features maybe not mentioned are: No traders or safe zones: All that cinder and other things you buy can only be lootedRare loot: This server is known for only having toilet paper, empty tin cans, and razors :DCustom crafting system: No other server has this, specific to this server only. The aforementioned loot is used to craft many things, including your first set of bandages!Hardcore AI missions: These missions give very good loot, but can be very difficult to completeLimited Vehicles: No traders means less cars around the map. Be sure to keep them safe :DBlowouts: Rare events that last for 5 minutes, similar to a stormBase breaking: Dayz isn't meant to be completely safe from everything. Base Breaking is hard but possible to do with materials and time, nothing is completely safe in this serverSkalisty Island: This place is a nightmare. Completing it is a bandits paradise, as it gives you so many guns that are specific to only the island. Be warned: there are 50+ AI on that island, and getting to the loot crate isn't easyASC Weapon Mod: Some rare guns can be found at crashsites, but most "amazing" guns you will loot and craft yourself! Uses weapon mod system, allowing you to add a silencer to your DMR, an ACOG to your M249 SAW, or a MOD1 kit to your M4 :DOre Veins: Used in the server-specific crafting menuI am not an admin for the server. I play daily here and let me tell ya, i haven't found everything here yet. If you have any quick questions, come to the TS3 at 188.40.87.134 and look for Torky :D If i'm not playing, i'm sure 1-2 of the admins will be online playing. Give this server a try at least, the reason for the addon download is so you can use the weapon mod system to its full extent :D -
In your opinion. Thankfully everything seems to suggest this along with some of the other unrealistic aspects in the game are merely there due to place holders or lack of assets atm. You telling me in a game where Stamina is already planned, where manual shifting of gears while driving vehicles is going to implemented and where blood types are modeled having your character have full access to his inventory while sprinting at 30 km/h is intentional. No of course not. Hopefully it just means it lacks an animation and one will be added later. Accessing your inventory is a risk and reward type deal, if you need to get into your gear then you should be vulnerable for a short amount of time while you sort through it. As for your animation comments yes more animations for everything including the most pointless of things would be an improvement over no animation.

.45 ACP > .32 ACP. Simply because practically every .32 ACP gun can be done in .380 and 9x18/.32 are too similar. (Though it doesn't really matter as I can't see them removing .45 ACP for any other calibers even if they did decide to add more.) Best bet would probably be to just add 7.62x25 and a civilian hunting round (most likely .30-06, though 7mm and 9.3x54 also work) as new calibers, and split .308 and 7.62x54R into two separate calibers. And 40mm high explosive rounds for the M203/GP-25 as well as any other grenade launchers (these are already in the game files so I can assume it'll happen at some point.) These I wouldn't mind if they just had a general "40mm HE" round rather than making them grenade-launcher explosive, simply because they're so similar that it wouldn't be worthwhile to split em up. I'd also like to see .410 Gauge because it's pretty unique and has an interesting variety of weapons that work with it (Saigas, Mossbergs, M6 Survival Rifles, MTs-255s, and Taurus revolvers.) Helicopters and planes... also anything with a modest amount of improvised armor will probably be able to stop even a few 7.62x54R rounds. Granted the PTRS-41 and PTRD were never built to shoot down aircraft and 12.7mm weapons are also pretty poor at it (yeah, the M55 Quadmount is a thing, but 12.7mm HMGs are just okay at it.) Rounds like 7.62x54R, .30-06, and .308 still leave many GPMGs open; PKMs, M1919s, M60s, M240s would all be fine at taking out even low-armor vehicles and aircraft, and there will still be a good amount grenades, traps/mines, and directed explosives (launchers) that can be used against heavier targets.

If anything, the food we eat should have an effect on both our energy levels and on our immune system. A steady diet of canned beans, fruit, and sodas will not be as good for you as a diet of fresh produce, greens, and lean meats. We should be slowed down (slower speeds), with lower energy and depressed immune systems if we don't eat a varied diet. Also: scurvy. Vitamin C can be found in plants other than citrus (many lawn weeds have high vitamin C content, as well as being delicious. Also pine needles, liver, etc), but it might not be known about by the average survivor. Alcohol has been with humanity for as long as we have had communities (Pots were found in the ruins of neolithic farms that had the residues of deliberately fermented grain.), and has been a commodity of trade for also that long. I also want alcohol to be eventually included, both as a trade good (most disaster-preparedness agencies believe that hard alcohols, especially moonshine, would become de facto currency after the SHTF) and as a source of storing calories. Seriously, hard alcohol can be used a medicinal disinfectant, fuel source (for vehicles, stoves, generators, lanterns, etc), industrial solvent, well....beverage, etc etc etc. The quality can be controlled by limiting the production of it to certain companies/groups, and different proofs can be valued differently. Of course, you could always distill your own, and attempt to crash the post-apocalyptic market, but you probably wouldn't be able to make the same quantity or quality, and I would expect the post-TSC BAFTE-goons to be even worse than the current : P Now, I am not going to tell you how to break the law, but the actual process and physical setup for an alcohol still can be found online. It is actually legal to brew your own alcohol in the US, so long as you don't sell it. If there is any form of alcohol I would like to see, it is hard cider. Unpasteurized apple cider has certain yeast strains in it, and apple cider is relatively easy to make. Take apples, quarter them, then put them into a pot and mash them up. Strain out the juices (by putting them in a permeable sack and squeezing, for example), transfer the juices to a clean glass or plastic bottle, cap with a balloon (poke a hole with a needle first) or a piece of cloth, and leave in a cool, dry place for a couple of weeks. Once the foam stops forming, the fermentation has stopped, and you can then drink it, or bottle it and let it age. Boom, alcoholic cider that has a decent number of calories and carbohydrates, Vitamin C, and tastes good to boot! Great way to store a GREAT food group (apples) for a long time, over winter perhaps? http://www.gameofbrews.com/wildling-cider/ As you can tell, I am a cider fan. Why so simple? I am not asking for 5-Star meals, but I've cooked some pretty complex, multi-course multi-item meals while camping with little more than a Dutch Oven, a metal grate, and a nice, flat rock.
-
I am even thinking about the possibility of using metal detectors to find these land mines to diffuse or repurposing it as your own camp defense but these passive weapons might be overpowered so perhaps diffusing it is much reasonable. Then the metal detector should have other uses like finding scrap metal from a junkyard to fix vehicles or to find buried weapons.
-
Probably because they arent needed. I highly doubt any vehicles will be added that couldn't be defeated with regular rifle rounds. Heck regular civilian cars can be defeated with a single .357 magnum to the engine block.
-
I used to have a .410. Wasn't much useful for anything. A novelty piece. I'd rather the .30-06 in place of the 7mm magnum. More guns guns that use it. Why no .50 BMG or 14.5? We need anti-material rifles for vehicles.
