    Yeah i should have specified in my opening post, I played the Epoch version of DayZ as I didn't enjoy the basic mod on its own. I used to be on a server where there was an equal amount of heros and Bandits and everyone got along on side chat. if you died by another player you didn't bitch about it, but towards the end, the server just got Fraped. People were flying around in armed Blackhawks and blowing up peoples locked vehicles when they weren't online and generally being a menace. It became a competition to see who was top gun on the server who had the biggest and best armed vehicles and they would wipe out anyone else who tried to follow in their footsteps. In the end it just wasn't DayZ anymore it just felt like it was a bad day in the Ukraine... with zombies thrown in. The admins decided to change servers (I don't see how that really solved the problem when anyone could just join the new server) As a result everyone lost their bases and gear which killed off the community because it took fucking ages to build up a really nice base with a helipad on the roof, not to mention the ultra rare items you couldn't just get from a trader.
  4. The only armed vehicle in the vanilla mod was the huey, with 2 machine guns (m240s I think?). No blackhawks with mini guns unless you were playing a mod of the mod. They were not terribly effective for actually shooting people unless you were super pro aces sharp shooter, and had a really good pilot that could keep things stable while not making you a sitting duck. More often then not, if some one was shooting at you, staying steady with one you could snipe him out easily. Before anyone jumps on my dick about how they totally shot dudes, yes I'm not saying they were useless and I used to shoot guys too, but I think anyone can agree they were better for suppressing than actually killing. I never really cared for armed ground vehicles, especially things like armored humvees/suvs in a lot of the other mods. The armored stuff was really lame. I don't want to see any vehicle you can't reasonably counter to some degree with a rifle. Even if it's more just shooting out the tires, or shooting out the gunner. I know some of the mods had vehicles where it would take multiple .50 cal shots to shoot out the tires alone and that shit was dumb. I suppose I wouldn't mind trading the mounted helicopter guns for being able to shoot out as a passenger. Of course then you'll have dudes hovering 1000m out sniping instead, and people using LMGs any ways. If multiple passengers can shoot you end up with an even deadlier aircraft. If you restrict it, then you may as well leave it to mounted guns only.

    OK what bastardisation of dayz was your flavour? epoch?....overwatch? Get ya self on a vanilla mod server, no black hawks, worst youl see is a huey, and only the one on each server. I don't mind the door guns on those because sitting in that seat is a death sentence. Alls it takes is a well placed half mag from an assault rifle and bye bye gunner, pilot if ya get lucky. Good snipers love it when they hear a heli approaching. I agree land vehicles should remain unarmed....maybe armoured, but not armed. They have a massive concealment advantage over something like a heli. Not to mention how much quieter they are. Another thing is don't be surprised how hard it is to shoot from a moving platform as apposed to shooting at a moving target. If I had to choose between heli door gun trying to hit a survivor as heli makes evasive vs being planted on the ground with a rifle compensating for the helis movement.....il take ground with rifle any day :) Defo up for cobbling together cars. Id like to see them actually missing bodywork and stuff....."improvised bonnet"....."improvised wing" ect ect, get our rides looking properly post apocalyptic :)

    Mod didn't have any militarised vehicles in it.... The mod actually made by rocket I mean. Epoch and all the other spinoffs or the team deathmatch private hives had military everywhere but you can't blame DayZ for that, they were just in the game files from ArmA2 and so on. But as for your basic point of 'please no military madness in the standalone', I fully agree. Bikes, handcarts for railways and some Ladas be all we need ;) Lets go. Edit - I forgot the mod did have the Huey and the Mi. But I never thought they were out of place.
  7. I like most are really looking forward to vehicles because it will be a big game changer, but I feel they should be unarmed vehicles. Civillian cars, trucks, vans etc... yes. I even think that civillian aircraft such as cesners and news/police helicopters will work too, because those are the sort of things you would find at an airfield. I think where it will all go wrong is when they start to militarize them, The one thing I hated about the mod was the fact I would drive around in an old pick up truck, then out of nowhere a fucking Blackhawk armed with twin miniguns would appear over the hill & open up on me. Because Dayz then just became arma 2 again. I even think the odd unarmed military Humvee would work because again as I said earlier, its what you would find at a military base or when a zombie outbreak kicks off. You should have the option as a car passenger to fire your gun out the window but not have any 50 cal guns or stupid high calibre missile launchers or miniguns attached to them. it will be a more ruthless kill on sight game than it is now if vehicles are armed, because you cant run and hide like you could if someone was chasing after you. That said i think it would be awesome to have the option as a passenger to shoot out the window. It at least gives you a better chance to run to the other side where he cant get the angle on you (unless there is one in each seat or you get run over first.) In the mod someone would be mounted on a 50 cal in a Humvee and spray rounds in your direction eventually getting a lucky hit. it was too easy. Can you imagine trying to shoot single rounds from the mosin at a player in a moving vehicle while the player is trying to dodge your shots? A lot more fair for the player and a bigger challenge for the car passenger. I also like the idea of customizing your car and repairing it when it gets damaged, those spraypaint cans finally get to be used for their original purpose. Cut down wood or smelt metal to create protective covers for your windows mad max style, that sort of thing.

    I like your idea with the coal, but I was going for the casual think like "just pour in some diesel and of you go". Sure, with a steam loco you could get in the same direction like "shovel in some coal and off you go". Just sayin': diesel would be more casual in the game but unrealistic due to what you said - it will be hard o come by in an apocalypse. Coal would be more realistic, but I dunno what it would do to the immersion of the game...or something like that :D In the Mod, there was an old diesel engine standing around somewhere at Chernarus (or wa it Elektro?). I don´t know if the model is in the mod (never been south) but if it is - the model is in the game! That could be used and I guess it doesn´t need to be created from the scratch. The, there are those hand powered cars. Love those thins and could give DayZ that DayZ Origins feeling: building vehicles with old stuff you find everywhere. The destroying of tracks: if it fits in the game engine smooth, why not?

    Yeah but I kinda liked the rural north in the mod, it was a safe heaven for me, also a good place to hide vehicles and tents(not always). Now I start seing to much concrete get rolled over my previous hunting grounds,,,,not too much fan of it, lol. I rather see they expand the already existing cities and make them bigger than taking over to much of the north, it's not 'unused'. Often met people up there in the mod..lone wolfs hideout from the gangs roaming the cities :P ..

    Yeah, your probably right, im just impatient waiting for the zombie apocalypse, sorry :blush: . But I would like to have atleast some rural areas left where I can hide when the vehicles gets in, so as long as they don't get to exited adding new cities and remove all the wilderness....
  11. Your luck might run out eventually. Imo its unreasonable hard to get an M4, involves too much serverhopping, as you can't effectivly search for crashsites without darn vehicles....and even if you find a crashsite, likley there is no m4 there, but always some ammo. They should remove 10 and 20 round mags for the M4. Makes no sense, the military doesn't use those.

    Separate times since outbreak

    I was doing some thinking and I had an idea for dayz standalone I think it would be cool if they added in different times since outbreak as different gamemodes and servers entirely, like in the early stages there would be lots of food, water or medical supplies, more military guns (such as the m4 and mp5) and vehicles (such as gl/mg humvees) would be around, as time went on there would be a much higher demand for food water and medical supplies, the buildings would become more wrecked and overgrown as nature reclaims them. There would be a stronger focus on making home made items and farming, the guns and ammo would be harder to come by and be older or more reliable such as the akm and mosin. The vehicles would be makeshift like putting sheet metal on a civilian car. I think this would be a good feature as people who want a more epoch-like experience with more modern vehicles and weapons could have their own servers and environment that they like and the ones that want a more 'surviving the apocalypse but we will never be the same again' feel with their own servers and environment. This would appease both group's wishes without upsetting the other. Everybody's happy.

    The simple conundrum with making rare high-end weapons in a game like DayZ is this: The more rare a weapon is, the harder it is to defend against. What Frosti points out is true in every way. If you make items super rare, those who exploit the game by things like renting a server and resetting it over and over again until they find the loot they seek that others can rarely have the chance of finding, then those people who are exploiting the game have an unfair advantage over others playing fairly.. even if they are server hopping it is still exploiting something that not every player even realizes exists as an option. The mere act of making items very rare encourages players to exploit the system, causing a fracture in the player base between those that exploit and those that do not. Its not unique to any game, eventually every PvP game will be affected by this. Cheating is universal. But the way to combat it is to not make items so rare, and those that are rare are not OP against other players. Rare items should be things like Axes, and Gas Stoves. Things that make survival easier, but do not make killing easier. If you make weapons prevalent, but using them a severe risk (as in attracting zeds/players by firing your weapon, etc..) then you offer a level playing field as far as self-defense goes. I know this may not be a popular concept, but there is a certain amount of thought necessary to realize what will happen if certain things are done with this game. We have clarified some of it here, but there is much left untouched. I invite you to think about it, and come to your own conclusions about what rare and powerful weapons/vehicles/loot will do to the end game and how it will affect the casual player, the hardcore player, and those that choose to exploit the mechanics of the game to gain an advantage. Then come back and respond with your ideas.. I'd love to hear what each of you think as some of you out there are geniuses and I mean that. Discuss ;)

    Coming back to DayZ... Maybe

    Good morning fellow Dayz-ians. I am here to talk to you today about the best game i've played this year, DayZ. I first started this game in January, and was hooked for about 3 months. I have around 150 Kills and even more deaths with a combined playtime of 200 hours. I havent played since the start of may. Let me tell you why. Reason 1. People Whining - Everyone and their brother is whining on the forums about what they want to see/what they dont want to see SO FUCKING MUCH that now the Devs use the excuse of "GYES ITS ALPHA, FUKIN DEAL WITH IT". Thank you, whiny dumbshits for ruining our only way to comunicate with the Devs. Reason 2. What is being added in the alpha. - Being that this game is loosly based on the dayz mod for ARMAII why the hell are the smaller aspects being added first? Once again, yes its alpha, but the things that NEED to be worked on right now are vehicles, storage, and the construction of forts and maybe we should talk about the HUGE FUCKING GRAPHICS PROBLEM. Who gives a rats ass about being able to catch a fish, when you have avid users with supercomputers who cannot have a good graphical experience because of your shit job on the environment. Reason 3. The fact that their are 3 million other survival/MMO/Sandbox/Alpha games - Here is the real kicker for me. The Devs of this game just expect people to stay patient and stick around while things are being worked on. Fact is, nobody wants to play a repetitive game where things are the same and new additions are so small, it feels like a normal launched game patch. If this is truly alpha, fix some shit, and make some HUGE addititions. There are great alpha games like Rust, Beasts of Prey and Space Engneers who have an EXCELLENT base for what they are doing. They made sure their graphics were good, and most of the larger additions are prioritised rather than adding small things to keep people quiet. I could piss and moan all day, but i want to make one thing clear. DayZ is still an excellent game, and is going to take a lot more time to finish. I just am loosing faith in it REALLY FAST, along with the other people I play with. The Devs need to make it clear that they are making an effort, and that they want to keep the people who have been putting up with all the glitchyness happy, and to listen to them.   18. [First suggestion] -> Add a body check option to players that is do-able only when the players get in this position: [http://i.imgur.com/xTxXOYB.jpg]. This could prevent bambis trying to hide a gun in their pants and could add some fun interactions between players. The body check will list all the items the player got in the notification section (just like you got wet etc. it will list every items here). Some items could be still invisible like a very rare foot holster [http://imgur.com/kLdJUMh] or things like that with a percentage chance to be detected of let's say 50% for example. [second Suggestion] -> Normal players shouldn't be able to use the special vehicles only under certain conditions: add some rare forming books on piloting helicoters or tanks or planes findable only in some places. Thoses books will grant you the ability to use thoses vehicles at one condition, you must keep your character alive enough time for them to learn the book. So for example, you obtain the helicopter's training book, you right click on it and press "Start learning". At this moment you will have to wait let's say in real life 3 days before you can use an helicopter, so you must keep your character alive 3 days (even if you don't play dayz it still count as days are passing). So an helicopter pilot will be actually someone with a very valuable life, maybe players won't try to kill them but take them in hostage to avoid precious time lost learning thoses rares books or imagine all the cool situations it could add to the game. If you had for example two books, you can learn only one at a time. Hope you enjoy thoses suggestions, i liked sharing them with you !

    Unless its shooting buck shots, theres absolutely no reason to cut down any weapon tbh. I vote no, its really not needed, the manpower and time could be spend on other things, which is far more important, such as the tents, vehicles and new weapons :) I feel that if we where to start cutting down the .22, we need to be able to cut down EVERY single weapon, for no other reason, then just to cut it down.... Im sorry, but its a complete waste of resources imho.
  21. Lol, you think a 7.62x51mm is weak? Funny. That thing will blow your leg off. And 50cal. is mainly an Anti-Material round, and without vehicles, that's useless. A 7.62 typically will work better against players than a 50cal. If they do add a 50cal. (Which I hope they don't) It will be used for taking out vehicles mainly.
  22. I remember coming across my first Dayz video on youtube. I got a sudden chill for what it would be like to be in a zombie apocalypse. Played the game for the first time and snuck into Cherno to get med supplies all while sneaking around zombies because I was so afraid of them and had no idea how to deal with them...it was an amazing experience and I want it back! Dayz SA will feel like Dayz when; I'm struggling to stay alive When I'm actually afraid of zombies When I see another player and think I can use his help instead of just ending up in a firefight When I can set up small camps across the map Vehicles would be cool too but I really hope they make them super rare and the gas too.

    Endless running - stamina/fatigue?

    A stamina and weight system is absolutely vital to the game. #1 it adds importance on vehicles #2 it adds another layer to how players decide to play lightly geared and long distance or heavily geared and armored and short distanced. Player enjoyment needs to take a backseat in this argument as it is not important. Gameplay is and gameplay suffers from the unreal tournament style movement in stand alone due to the lack of any stamina or weight system. In order to put such a system in dayz seems realively simple , assign weight values to every item in the game, and the heavier your player is the faster he fatigues and the heavier the player the slower his jog and sprint speed is.

Clans: Their is nothing better than having two clans or more clans fight it out on your server, so if any Small to Large clans are looking for a home, that is going to be around for a while then this server is for you.   25. I will feel ready to call it the primary experience when they have persistent storage and vehicles. That is really the two main things separating it from the MOD. Of course the persistent storage includes things remaining fixed on servers too.
