  1. I voted guns AND vehicles!
  2. Adding helo's are a mistake. I think some need to just install BF4 and be done with it. If you are going to add flying vehicles, perhaps something like a paraglider, noisey, slow and vunerable
  3. I don't get the issue at hand. Transport heli's aren't god-like flying cannons which can kill everything in a certain radius. You've been playing too much CoD, if you think that's the case. You try shooting an M240 from a moving heli to a moving target, from a distance of 200+ metres. You won't even land a hit, even if the target is wearing a neon pink carnaval outfit in the middle of an open field. All you can effectively do is suppress him, which is exactly what those LMGs are for. Even so, guns aren't mandatory on choppers, why can't we just have a civ heli? Then, the finding bases thing. STOP HIDING YOUR BASES UP NORTH. I don't even need a heli to find your poorly hidden bases in the west, north and black forest. I hid my own bases in unusual spots. The result is, no looted bases, even with vehicles. Even hiding a car in an open field in a low traffic area is better than up north. You should also stop blaming choppers, since -as I said- I found a ridiculous amount of bases on foot, not even by car. The only real "issue" is the ability to transport players anywhere. But what exactly is the issue here? So what? It's just one of the virtues that come with owning a chopper. Lastly, fighting over chopper spawns, searching for a chopper and everything added a lot of fun to DayZ. I'd hate to see that go.
  4. One heli on each server is bollocks imo, must be atleast two so the sky can be contested. Also, nothing more than a Huey would make sense. But there is a textured blackhawk model in the game. If you approach crashsites from the distance, they have a "repaired" look on them. Until you get close enough for them to look destroyed, you can see the model change from a grey intact blackhawk to the destroyed black one. Btw I think many of you overestimate helicopters. The best an armed heli (Im considering hueylike helis only, so armed transports) can do is shoot down other helis, or exposed vehicles. Hitting infantry is very hard and it's easy to hide from one since you hear them 2 kilometers before they get vision on you.

  6. Shenanigan Simulator Overpoch Dayz We are a group of friends just running a server together for the heck of it. We were sick of every other server we joined having unfair game-play. 8. In the long term, I think helicopters would add a lot to the game. With barricading coming soon, some groups will stick to hidden stashes in the woods (like the mod), while others may fortify single and small groups of houses, and even smaller isolated villages. I'm sure these groups would pursue resources- fuel, ammo, food, water, and yes vehicles. At least one group should have dominance over the server, and that'd provide incentive to other groups and singular players to build up resources. Once this happens, fortified towns would pop up. Factions among servers would form, and these "groups" would become much more militarized. Damn, I just creamed my pants. Well, that's my hope, anyways. I hear all this talk about "no! we can't have this/that, it'd ruin survival!". Whatever. The apocalypse wouldn't last all that long- townships, trading cities, and remnants of the previous government would arise to dominate the wasteland. Sounds pretty exciting to me, not sure why it doesn't to you. To be fair, I'm not very much bothered by the idea of MANPADS, AT weapons, and light armored vehicles being implemented. As long as they're sufficiently difficult to find and maintain.
  9. Some good ideas right here, really like the chance of malfunctions for all vehicles. And 1st person view only for vehicles (id be happier with 1st person only everything but thats a different story). What about weather effects? Rainstorms would make vision pretty bad im guessing. And if theres chance of finding, fixing and flying helicopters then there should definatly be a chance to find AA guns such as stingers.

[POLL] Which would you rather have more of?

I don't get any of the options above? How do animals affect the rest of the environment? How does having vehicles exclude having guns? How is this exactly supposed to be working?
  11. I seem to get VERY scared, so scared that after I have an encounter with someone, I will shoot them (mostly because I can't trust people after a few encounters I've had ever since I got DayZ), and then I won't calm down for the next 7 minutes, and I have a constant thump in my chest. I know there are other topics on this, but they don't seem to have the same paranoia. I will get scared even if I have a sporter, with 10 rounds and no mag. Personally, I know my paranoia is just mostly over other players, because 95% of people with a gun will backstab you now.Or have there friend that you didn't see shoot you in the head. I don't know if anyone else feels like this, but I hope DayZ adds tents, vehicles and fortifying places soon because not having a sense of safety and security for just a few minutes is really getting to me.
  12. so with all the buzz about vehicles, I recalled hearing somewhere that if there are helicopters, they wanted to make them control somewhat like the helicopters in "Take on Helicopters"? Does anyone have any thing to confirm this, or am i just a loony?
  13. rodolfoxiii

[POLL] Which would you rather have more of?

Voted and looks like I'm in the majority. Vehicles, environments and zombies. Do not want a bigger map though, the map is huge for 40 players only. Suggest 100+ players.
  14. There was nothing that can be done about the one in the DayZ Mod. It's a mod of ArmA II, and so the objects, vehicles, etc.. Come from ArmA II. They used the same repair and refuel system as ArmA II. It wasn't overpowered, it's just nothing could/can be done about it. Yeah they could of removed them (Some servers did) but a lot of people never complained. I'm not sure how something can be overpowered when the ammo for it is rare/very rare? Which someone is now going to reply "Oh well why bother then". Again, reward. If people want more than sitting on their backsides, building a base, and hunting a cow or two, I don't see nothing wrong with that.
  15. You're point is utterly flawed. Because like seriously, by your logic (Off-topic or not..) each and every single survivor in Chernarus can use any form of weaponry with ease, can repair vehicles with ease, have a lot of medical knowledge, are experts in surviving and hunting, and are also topped up partial military like tactics when it comes to firefight. Off-topic or whatever, but the whole ultra-realism argument is becoming seriously flawed.
  16. Methinks you never learned how to use helicopters properly. Everyone knows if you're going to have a base with vehicles the LAST thing you do is put them right next to each other. Vehicles make noise (except for bicycles), and you don't want to attract everyone on the map to your location by having two whirling blades of super-sonic fury directing everyone to your location. Land your helicopter half a click or so away from your base, and hike back. Same with your cars, park them away from your main camp, so that if someone stumbles on them, they don't A) have access to literally all of your stuff, to pick and choose what they need and want, and 2) can't run over and ruin your tents + all the stuff in them when they find your Gaz and have picked your base clean. All of that is true and I never said it wasn't. The argument being used against helicopters is that anyone who had one would use it to get the hell out of dodge. You can't tell me someone with a car wouldn't do the exact same thing. -- Merged. --

  19. They add everything that helicopters can do. They add quick transport, they add CAS, they add looting strategies, they add interactive opportunities. I guess I should've been more straightforward in my previous post. Have you ever played Take on Helicopters? Did you know that DayZ's engine is a modified Take on Helicopters engine? Did you know that whenever helis were brought up to dean, he said that they were going to be not only complicated to fix, but complicated to use. Why would they not make it more complex when that is the drive of this entire game? Tents, Vehicles, AND helis would already be in the game if they were just going to be the same, if they weren't going to be revamped. everything is going to be more complex, and that is why we have to wait for it.
  20. I personally have not played any of the Arma games, so the Standalone is pretty much it when it comes to my experiences... I feel it would be "Interesting" to have Helicopters and such in game, so that you could have something to strive for as a "Endgame" goal, along with Bases and such of coarse. What I am NOT wanting is for this game to be turned into some Air-assault Warfare simulator and there to be an over abundance of "Endgame" Vehicles and Rarity Items, that could be seen as "OP". If the parts, ammo, fuel, ect. where VERY hard to come by and maintain it would seem feasible, however like I said, I don't want there to be too many per server, and I definitely don't want it to feel like my Squad/Clan stand no chance against one or whatever, because I would want it to be pretty equal in terms of ground/air superiority... All and all, I am not against the idea, hopefully A LOT of thought and testing go into it prior to it being implemented for the player-base to use/test.
  21. I'd like them to head in the direction that Origins did, only better done. What I mean is survivor made vehicles. I don't mean built from scratch. But maybe vehicles with stuff added to them i.e. Metal plating, mounted weapon. I do think helicopters still have their place in DayZ. One per server and not always having a chance of spawning on every restart. Say for example 1 out of every 10 restarts or just completely random.
  22. Indeed they are not. They are more of a burden after a while than land based vehicles. Fuelling them, repairing x amount of glass because someone had a go with an ak, leading people back to your camp, hard to hide, the list is huge when it comes to drawbacks of having a heli. And as OP says its not easy firing from moving platform. I (only once) had a huey roll up on me as a freshy. Predictably they hit auto and rotated for the gunner....that gave me time to get behind a tree. 1st door gunner opens up....creaming all his ammo over about 30-45 seconds. Heli pilot then spins it and lets the other have a go....he too wastes all his ammo. While its going down the one piece of the heli I can see (tail rot) is waving up and down as the inexperienced pilot tries to fight auto, instead of knocking it off and creeping or trying a quick pass or two. The only people I can see thinking they are are the guys that never had one....they only saw them cruising round in the sky....some sort of angel of death. But the guys inside the heli know full well how exposed and vunearble they are.

Vehicles & how I think they should work ingame

Am i the only one that doesn't actually want vehicles. When you can traverse any point of the map, within minutes with near impunity it reduces the scale, and defies the survival element of the game. It also drastically unbalances the game in favour of the minority who can skip between crash sites and airfields in a moments notice sweeping up the loot which ultimately results in bored top tier users resorting to PVP for entertainment, instead of survival. If you want a project to work on within a team, perhaps base building or fortification would be better as its advantages are limited to a static location.
  24. So, as we slowly approach Q4, the roadmap mark for helicopters, the discussion heats up. Are armed helicopter overpowered? I say no, definitely not. When many people argue against armed helis, they see DayZ Epoch, they see AH-1Z Cobras flying around, wrecking fresh spawns with the cannon, leveling entire city blocks with the rocket pods, experienced pilot-gunner teams taking out vehicles kilometers away with guided Hellfire missiles. Others envision what it was in the mod. You find a heli, slap 6-12 spare parts on it, and you got yourself a huey with unlimited ammo (ammo fills each restart). On the rare occasion you ran into a quality pilot and gunner that could effectively neutralize infantry with the M240s mounted on the side, your day was ruined. I see those points. The first is just a matter of comparing a mod like Epoch to the standalone, highly unlikely. Now, I wouldn't oppose Cobras existing in the DayZ universe to give me something to dream about, but I seriously doubt that we will see anything of the sort anytime in the foreseeable future. My vision of helicopters in DayZ is similar to how the mod was. Most helis you found were unarmed, but you could get lucky. Next let's talk about if they were even OP in the original mod. To this I also argue no. When it came time to take out a ground target, most pilots would hover, as their gunners could not effectively judge how much to lead, and take into account all of the variables that must be considered for air-to-ground fighting. Pilots would hover, snipers would snipe, and it would often be game over for the heli crew. Another common occurrence was a pilot flying fast to avoid ground fire, and the gunners spraying wildly, and why should they care, the thing spawns with 500 rounds each restart? What I'm saying is that even in the mod, it was pretty rare to see a pilot-gunner team that could effectively kill from the air. Gunners could spray as much ammo as they wanted. So, my argument is that armed helicopters would not be overpowered in SA if we took what we had in the ORIGINAL mod, and "DayZed" it. First, you have the chances of finding a helicopter being very slim. Second, you have what will probably be weeks if not months of looting to find ALL the parts required to get it running. We're talking endgame content here. Third, you have the the Take On Helicopters flying mechanics, as that is what the engine was based off of originally. (Flying in ToH is VERY different than A2/A3) Fourth, you have the rarity of an ARMED helicopter. I say armed meaning mounted M240s on a huey, or for you authenticity freaks, perhaps the Mi-17 military variant would be the common find around the militaristic state of Chernarus, armed with PKMs. Fifth, you can bet your ass these heli's won't spawn with ammo every restart, you'll have the challenge of finding ammo boxes for these weapons, and using it effectively. Sixth, you have the extreme skill that it takes to have an effective pilot-gunner team, with the new flying mechanics. So taking all of these into account, what do you think? Will it just be death from the sky? Or will the challenges outweigh the possible personal negative outcomes.
