  1. Yeah I was going to host as server but like you decide not to after reading the rules. While I don't mind host a server (already run a minecraft server for the guild), I won't till later when I'll have more control over it. Most of the guild I'm part of quit playing games like World of Tank and similar (Or not so similar in the case of SW:TOR) becasue there was no guarantee we could all actual play together. Support would die out quick if came to times where everyone couldn't get on a server we rented. Sadly since tent/vehicles etc are server based, and needed for real guild like operations you can't just go find "another" server. Best option is like some of us are doing, is to wait till server are allow with more control in the hands of those that pay for and maintain them.
  2. Confirmed. I discovered the camp when I server hopped from our camp, which was in the same location, and they banned me for "hacking" after I killed 3 of there afks and stole one their vehicles. No hard feelings though, glad you guys moved it finally. Whenever I want to "dispose" of a camp, I just take everything out and save the tent. After that a server restart won't revert the items that were removed. Sometimes ill blow them up or run them over, but a server restart just restores them.

How to right a flipped vehicle?

If it were a car, then using another vehicle to flip it would have a chance of working. With an ATV however, tapping it lightly with a car several times will cause it to violently explode like a nice big box of grenades. If you flip an ATV and it does not force you off of it, then you can possibly right it by turning the wheels and giving it gas the right way. Also fun fact: The more jerry cans in a vehicles inventory when it explodes, the more explosions! No jerry cans means it explodes once, one jerry can means it explodes twice, and so on. We have tested this repeatedly (we find a lot of vehicles =P) and it seems to be the case.
  4. You also have to take into account that in real life, we have vehicles and other people and lots of other outside noises interfering with our senses. In dayz there wouldn't be far far less of this, I do think there should be a slight reduction through buildings but not by the large amount that you are saying. I reckon the aggro range is fine, since if you plan to get within 10m of a infected then you should get screwed unless you are shift crawling which then once you are within like 3-5m then you should be screwed. You shouldn't be getting so close to a infected unless you plan to crossbow shoot them.

    Server lock?

So I read that tents are now going to be locked on that particular server. My main question is that will the same thing happen with vehicles when you hide them?
  6. These will most likely(as I said MOST LIKELY) be the topics that will be mentioned 1. Where will everything be set up, will we have a convoy or will we have a trading area different than the actually outpost 2. Vehicles - For us to get anything done efficiently, we need to have vehicles, whether it be boats to get around or helicopters for trading. We need some sort of vehicle. 3. server - What server will we be setting up at, will we host our own? Can we get people to actually join the server to trade with us. 4. Trading - What items will we be trading. We will actually probably be trading for weapons, supplies and vehicle parts 5. Also we will probably talk about what we will do when we get this up and running CoolCat
  7. I run in a pretty large group of guys, about 15 of us, and we had setup what we call the FEMA camp. It was like 45 tents ir so mostly packed full of guns and equipment that we have been collecting since 1.5.2. We also had 1 Bike 2 ATVs a Car and a tractor which are also gone. To my knowledge the server is still on 1.7.1.1 (the host keeps forgetting to update the name from 1.7 so not 100% sure). Logged out last night with everything there ( surrounded by wire fence tank traps and sand bags) and today when I log in EVERYTHING was gone. Now I saw the vehicle reset post earlier from rocket so those are explained but WTH happened to our camp, Please and thank you for answering. When: 19/6/12 Where: PM me for server I'm not giving that up openly. What: Tent city gone as well as vehicles. Side Note: The tents were in a field before the update to 1.7.1.1 after update they were packed up ( the ones we could) and moved into the woods near the same location then the fence and bags and hedgehogs were setup. Not sure this is the cause but I will put here anyway as well as bug thread. When we returned to the camp late last night (this morning) 19/6/12 ~5am EST it was dark and as we approached the camp the wire fence kits created artifacts like crazy (geometry stretching to infinity) and seems to have been caused by the light from the moon and the shadows from the trees. Thanks in advance dookie
  8. Talking with a few of the boys, and we think that camouflage netting could be a good idea to add to the game as a loot item. Upside, good for hiding vehicles you find. Down side, the netting would take up most of your back pack space, and once deployed, it would need a large clear area. Thoughts? Cheers HULL

    Server lock?

I believe Vehicles/Tents have always been server specific. They've never been able to transfer between servers. Is this what you meant?

    DE6 Info and Discussions

Wow lol. They didn't even announce that and care for the regular players that still had tents and vehicles.

    Camo Netting

It is a good idea, it could be used in many situations other than hiding vehicles. Could be used to hide a group of ambushers that aren't in ghillie suits, also for possible temp camps or etc. The only issue would be placement glitch, since setting down a tent is near impossible and so with something that requires even larger area to be place down would be even harder to place.

    Character wipes with patch releases

While I can see the point of character equipment resets (and I wince because I've been carefully surviving for three weeks and have most of the stuff I need to stay out of people's way but fight back effectively if I'm forced to (except the legendary NVG))... I thnk that the bigger problems are the hidden tents and vehicles loaded with gear that a newly wiped character can rearm at. Those should be periodically reset... But then that takes away from the other aspect of the game which is long term survival and the pursuit of the means to achieve it (ie. cars, a fortified camp, etc...) There'll always be tons of fresh spawners testing the game, but isn't there also value in seeing how the "high-end" players fare... The axe, for example, might interest newly spawned, but when face with chosing between an axe and a rifle as a primary weapon, most veteran players will likely opt for the rifle, especially if you have a small pack that can't hold a second primary weapon. Just my 2 cents...

Places Were I Have Found Vehicles.

pretty sure thats old. confirmed locations like this since the latest vehicle update are nice. only one i know are real on that list is the first bike spawn it mentions Green mountain often has vehicles inside the gate of the tower complex
  14. Increasing the stealth difficulty didnt help either, half the time when entering a building from a prone crawl my dumbass survivor stands up and sprints, alerting the entire horde. It also doesnt help that many of the servers are either not up to date, locked by admins to steal all the vehicles and hide them, or just plain buttfuckery like loosing military grade gear from a simple update.

US 1 US 2 TAW_Tonic Need Beta Patch

I am getting this too; I have vehicles on US2 and I would appreciate being able to play there.

    Anti-aircraft weapon

I agree' date=' I wouldn't want to see the devs spend any significant amount of time on this, I just thought it would only require a few lines of code. Since the weapon is already in Arma2. I've driven around in many ground vehicles, why haven't I been popped by "every troll bandit and their mom's" AT4 rockets? ---------------------------- Believe me guys, I know this isn't BF3/PR, and I use the crap out of AA in those two games. And the last thing I want to do is turn DayZ into a PVP match, but we've already got so much military hardware in the game I doubt adding an AA missile will push it over the edge. Think about this for a second, if you have a working helicopter, it would be very easy to collect a bunch of spare parts for it. It's not like the people flying around in helicopters are struggling to survive, they've made it, they're thriving. So you leave your spare helicopter parts in the helicopter and when you get shot down, you secure the crash site and repair the bird. If it was just one lone guy hiding in a bush who shot you down, you just repair and fly away. But, if it was another clan/group who wanted your chopper they could advance and try to kill you before you can get it repaired.

    Destruction

Fences can be destroyed when a vehicle runs over them. The big stone walls can also be knocked over although I am not sure if any of the vehicles in DayZ are big/heavy enough to do so. (Perhaps a bus.) Air Control Towers, houses, barns, stables, un-enterable barracks (possibly enterable ones as well, haven't tested), are the destructible buildings that come to mind off the top of my head. However a significant amount of firepower is needed. For example, an attack heli or an A-10 from regular ArmA

    From an Eve-Online Player...

I am an Ex-Eve player and this game has many eve like aspects. I love the fact you can take everything from a player, no skill / training requirements... nothing lost to explosion / violence. Penalties for death have been severely lacking in most multiplayer games lately. If this does wind up being on a tranquility size server with players being the content creators, Rocket will be collecting my subscription fees for years to come. Dayz has a similar progression, to EVE... you start off desperately trying to survive and conquer the learning curve. You get proficient and beat the PVE aspect (killing zombies, getting gear). Then you take on the domination aspect (PVP), looting and pillaging other people's camps, vehicles, and territory. I have to praise Rocket for making the game more challenging and engaging, I loved when we were fighting 1200-1500 zombies with insta-respawn safety in numbers or die, I've never had to give so much attention to the constant PVE factor... just when you think you'll never die to a zombie again... one will tackle you break your leg and knock you out while their friends devour you.
  19. Myself and some friends had been playing on NY 7 and 8 for a while until a rapid influx of nuking hackers deemed it necessary to give those servers regular visits, so just before the big update we moved over to NY 13 and NY 14, only to find them shut down and nowhere to be found for the next few days. I just saw them pop back up today still running 1.7.1.1... only they are password locked. I heard somewhere that this was not allowed? Regardless, what's the point of hosting a server if nobody can play on them, really? Does the admin want to pin down the vehicles for himself before he allows pubs to join? I'm not trying to make any insinuations, just wondering what the hell is going on (and if we will ever have our new camps back online). Thanks. This thread can be deleted. It looks like they have removed the password lock, and are only locking it and letting people in at bursts.

    Alpha Test?

NOTE: "Too long did not read" people, skip to bottom. So I commonly see "it's an alpha, bruh" thrown around a lot, used as an awful excuse for, well, everything. I get that, by definition, DayZ is an alpha-level quality release. The only thing I'm confused about is the "test" part. Any alpha test I've participated in (read: tester, logger, worker. not playing) had means of testing nearly every component or feature that was added. DayZ does not. Presently, 90% of the population test 5% (running around, inventory, getting killed, respawning) of the game. Indeed, I pulled that figure out of my ass, but I'd bet money it's fairly accurate. The problem with so many whiners, is that DayZ, in all its hardcore difficulty, glitchy glory, is emulating how the game will eventually be intended to play, forcing people to get all angsty about problems they will encounter. I get pissed, only because I am legitimately testing all I can, only to have hours of time building up a character (to actually be able to actively test) wasted on some insane bug. I am not mad because of a sense of entitlement to a stable-ish game - I am mad because I'm volunteering my time to try and help make DayZ better, and I'll likely get curb-stomped for it. My point is, this is an alpha test, bound for many global wipes, so why not give us the ability to actually test items and features that only <10% of the population can manage to even reach? Think of it. The way things are right now (more ass-found figures), only the top 2-5% can actually test NVGs (read: test, not just play with), 20% can test vehicles, and so on. Especially after the latest hotfixes, people now just commonly die within minutes, much less spend the hours/days trying to meagerly survive, unable to actually test things. Yes, people should test the hardcore survival aspect of the game. I love testing it. How is anything else ever going to be tested? Other alphas, and even betas, give you tools to modify your char, spawn items, etc. to create/test scenarios that will be encountered in the live/production state of the game. Obviously, these perks won't be carried over, but at least now you can give everyone the chance to test everything, and find all the bugs they otherwise cannot, and don't get found until it's way too late. Solid example: I should be able to spawn a rangefinder, and make myself invincible, so I can test zombie aggro, tell the ingame range, and make notes. Instead, I have to care about wasting hours of play-test time to simply get to that position. In closing, DayZ is not yet at the point where people should get butthurt about character power, or egos over items, deaths, kills, etc. It is in too raw of a condition to be so difficult to be allowed to test.

    DayZ Stories

A little background....I play Day Z with a bunch of people I have gamed with for years and some new folks. We are part of a gaming community. We have our own Team Speak and there can be over a dozen people in there any given night. So we have a nice tent city set up on a server which will remain nameless. We have found some vehicles, I wanted to take the bike for a spin to a nearby pond to fill water bottles. So I tell everyone my intentions and shove off. I get to the pond and fill the bottles. All of a sudden I hear loud gunfire so very very close to me. LOL I was by far the most scared I have been in the game. ( after just having a blast on the bike) My heart jumped out of my chest, every hair on my body stood straight up!!! and I ran like hell yelling in TS Oh my god, oh my god oh my god....lol The bike, the bike I was thinking, they are after mah bike!! Then I hear a lot of el oh eling over TS. It seems one of them fuckers was near the pond and decided to give me a good fright. Best moment of the game so far. We all got a good laugh and my heart rate finally came down about 20min later. The "shooter" jogged along as I rode the bike back to our camp. Sometimes it is not the game but the people you play with that make it fun!!!

    From an Eve-Online Player...

Ex eve player. Have to say Day z is more brutal. Very hard to stash stuff properly (tents and vehicles) other than that when you die in pvp or pve you lose everything. At least with eve you would have x amount of pve ships and x amount of pvp ships. And easily replace said ships with isk. None of that in day z lol Also no empire space. Its like if all of day z is nullsec.
  23. Rocket, I got 2 small suggestions. 1) You should make the hatchet go back in the utility slot, and from your inventory you can right click it to chop / harvest wood like you use to normally, or you can right click it to equip it as a melee weapon. 2) you should do the same thing with the crowbar, and also as a future feature / suggestion, you can make the crowbar able to pry open locked doors (like when you make all the unenterable buildings enterable) or make it so you can lock doors as a future feature, could also use the crowbar to break / pry things as well? (ie if you eventually make it so you can make keys for and lock vehicles, or if you make like lockable boxes, crates, chests, etc that you can store things in) Would also be nice in the future if the zombies had to break down doors etc instead of opening them or just walking through them.

    Zombies after patch 7.1.1.4

Same. I don't think the ArmA 2 engine is accurate enough with line-of-sight and current walking surface to support this change in the detection mechanics. Its difficult to tell when you are about to walk from grass to a hard surface, and the sound meter jumps two bars when you do. That's the difference between being heard 20 meters away and being heard 100 meters away. The LoS calculation is obviously broken, and I expect there isn't attenuation of sound by obstructions, i.e. if you are inside and walking you should basically be inaudible and invisible to any z outside the house. I think these changes were probably put in to satisfy the vets who find the game too easy now that they have stocked camps, large teams and a garage full of vehicles. But obviously they can't be expected to voice the real reason it is too easy for them: they can hang onto stuff permanently, death isn't an issue when someone can grab your stuff for you and you can just go back to your camp to rearm after respawn, and you can stash all your vehicles 40km off the edge of the map so no one else has a hope of stumbling over them. Oh, also the blatant glitch abuse to duplicate items. I raided a camp the other day which had about 20 NVGs in various tents and vehicles. This would represent 1000s of hours of searching the barracks, pretty obviously they were duplicated using one of the various duplication bugs. These are the things that should be fixed to make late game harder.
  25. Push, DE2,6 could be leased from now! both have vehicles and running as they should. now new: Phone support!
