Let me explain a situation where ghosters really fuc*ed some stuff up. I run the CQF and we like to play on our servers. Last night, I managed to get most of my guys on the server for a major convoy op. We had 4 vehicles (all with gear [med supplies, guns, ammo, even a mountain dew]) and we were making our way out to do some extraction of team members and survivors from hostile zones. Long story short, we made it to the NW airfield where a squad was under heavy fire. We rallied by the lone two northern hangars and put the vehicles inside and formed a perimeter. Our squad was at the ATC tower and heavily engaged, so we moved to meet that front. Next thing I know is that my guys are reporting that they are being shot, so I order a retreat into the hangars until we could regroup and go on the offensive. We put the vehicles in front to provide cover temporarily. I was in a the hangar with 15 other people and the next thing I know, the fire on us stops as the shooter disconnects. So we begin to regroup. After about 5 min of aiding each other and rearming, we were good. the next thing I know, the shooter reconnects in the middle of my group and ends up killing 6 of my guys before we can get a bead on him. I ordered a rapid pull out of the airfield so that we didn't lose any more guys or vehicles. Then as they go out, the two guys my lone squad was fighting spawn in and riddle the convoy with bullets. In the end only 3 people and 1 vehicle from my original group made it back. Now in a non-ghosting situation, I would have admitted a fuckup on my part somewhere. But I think that this issue was a huge problem. It ended up setting us back and forcing us to stop any friendly extractions of random friendly survivors for the near future (until we rearm and such). I spoke with ander (who came on due to complaints of me banning a ghoster a little earlier) and he stated that it wasn't an exploit to ghost at this time, wait, what?!?!. So I unbanned the ghoster from my server. When I said that compares to death dodging but I feel it is 10x worse, we got on the subject of how to deal with exploits. Apparently, I am not to ban exploiters (could be wrong)but should kick them and not on the first offense. As a server owner of a bunch of servers, I feel it is concerning that exploiters, especially ghosters (the bastards taking advantage of the glorious hive system) are able to just continue their cheating without reprimand. They need to be banned as it is just as bad as hacking. When we figure out the situation on dealing with specific types of situations, there needs to be a post made in the forums and stickied about what server admins can do to deal with specific types of douchebags.

Havent seen that box somewhere, i had some blurred when my blood is low before dying soon. I hunting a sheep and took 5 meats but without fire in the north where im looking some vehicles and weapons. Did you got it or not?

Someone said once that the helicopter has a built-in ground radar that highlights empty vehicles Maybe someone decided to go for a flight and found your hidden camp simply by stumbling upon the empty vehicles parked there -
Date/Time: 16/06/12 What happened: Friend drove our UAZ through the flower garden south of the NE airfield (coordinates 123 031) , tried to run over a flower but instead of the flower giving, the UAZ did and ended up on its side. The flowers in that garden will destroy anything that is driven into them. Where you were: flower garden south of the NE airfield What you were doing: Trying to drive over a flower. I know this is probably an ArmA 2 engine issue, but could be kind of fixed by simply blocking off obviously badly made areas like this with walls or whatever, so people can't accidentally total their vehicles.

Myself and three friends found a motorboat dinghy the other day, sailed up the coast to the northeast and discovered an inlet outside of the map with all the other boat spawns hoarded, along with a tent city of about 8 tents, with more tents inside those, and gear and ammunition including ghillie suits, M4A1 CCO SDs, Mk48s, M24s, and stockpiles of various other weapons and ammunition. Standard bandits hoarding loot and vehicles outside of the map so nobody else can have them. So cheap. -

Picked out those that would best complement your list: Player vs Environment (PvE) Make zombies more challenging Scipted events and scenarios (military patrols, zombie zergs, etc.) Add storyline Player vs Player (PvP) Weaker guns to make gunfights longer Encourage teamplay Safe-zone policed by NPCs Coded mechanics Friendly fire disabled if flagging yourself as friendly Friendly fire disabled among squad members Friendly fire disabled unless selecting OPFOR in lobby Equipment and vehicles Non-lethal weapons Vehicle modifications Body armor Improvements to social gameplay Player settlements and camps Player factions First aid and revival Player skins and customization You may catalog them however you'd like. Have not included author of OP, as I see it as irrelevant; the ensuing discussion is usually more fruitful than the original idea. "Make zombies more challenging" conflict with the zombie-petition, but the petition was a less interesting thread. Ideas should be judged their merits rather than number of supporters.

Well the whole northern/western boundary is pretty much scoured for camps on popular servers with vehicles. The only advice I can give you is to think not just how far the camp is from some point of interest, but whether it's *between* two points of interest, ie. could you think of a scenario for some one to stumble onto the camp while going from A to B. -

Ander, why let people leave vehicles outside the map at all? And for that matter why let people put anything outside the map. It's just silly how it is now. People have been duping tents and weapons to oblivion and have huge camps outside the map, add on top of that now they have also moved the vehicles there. IMHO, don't let anyone save anything outside the map. Just destruct the items and let them respawn when the normal rules apply. (As mentioned in post) -

Can someone explain vehicle inventory slots?

here is what I have been told a while back: items in a vehicle only take 1 slot each - both car wheel and a tin can take 1 slot vehicles have 3 types of slots - item slots (ammo, food, grenades, etc. general items), weapons slots (weapons and tools) and backpack slots for example, UAZ has 50/10/2 slots - 50 item, 10 weapon and 2 backpack check out this thread for numbers on other vehicles and stuff - http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=10198 not sure about the tools going into weapon slot though -
Dock area surfaces like that on the dam are glitchy at best when in a vehicle its an arma II thing avoid going in vehicles on docks or Dams

Rocket, I assume at some point you will consider turning off the third person view. Whether it's permanent or just a test, I feel like it's going to happen at some point. I'm also aware that this is a hot button issue with one side defending third person and another attacking it. Personally, I'm in favor of third person because to me it gives the game a more tactical feel like Rainbow Six meets Zombies. However, I still dislike being able to use the camera to see people over walls / around corners. There are two big reasons why I like third person. The first reason is that it makes me feel more attached to my character. For instance, I get Camo or a Ghillie Suit, and I can see it on my character. It makes me like that character just that much more, and it makes that character feel much more important to keep alive. You lose all the aesthetics attached to a character in first person. The second reason why I like third person is the spatial awareness. In real-life, humans have spatial awareness by using all of their senses. They also have the ability to move their eyes to see rather than their whole head. Often times in first person, it's hard to judge the distance of your character to zombies or objects nearby. The same can be said for first person in vehicles (tunnel vision much?). Also, first person on a bike or motorcycle is horrendous due to the bumpy terrain. Here's what I'm proposing to you... This is the biggest one I hope you'd consider trying. Move the third person camera closer to the player and more over the shoulder. It would make seeing around corners / over big walls much harder. Would it be possible to force first person view in prone? This would eliminate the issue of snipers seeing over small walls such as fire station roof. It would also eliminate the issue of being able to shoot so well in tall grass (only on servers with crosshair on). Would it be possible to give third person view a large accuracy penalty? This would make firing in third person only useful in a close quarters situation, and it would force people to aim down the sights. If anyone has feedback they would like to add, feel free to do so. Please keep it related to my suggestion only. Remember, these are just my suggestions and opinions. I'm not looking to start a giant first person vs third person thread. Let's keep it civil people. In the end, we just want a better game for everyone.

Has to do with the server you're on that shows players on the map... It'll show zombies and vehicles too.

so does vehicles reset when updates come? i just found a rib boat earlier and saved it WAY away from anything and went offline came back after update in same spot and boat is gone...... long walk =(

I don't know how this shit works EXACTLY, but people can get different results 'cause servers don't have everything updated correctly or at all. Like when backpacks (even vehicles at one point) weren't spawning at all. Some servers actually got a server side update for it, but others didn't. People were coming on here and saying we can find backpacks just fine. Then of course others would say they couldn't find any for days...someday I hope some way it can be the same for all. So that if you don't have the most recent updates then you just can't host the server or some shit. I don't know. Just sucks to have all this conflicting information around. I'd assume though that rocket and his team have a way of sifting through the shit and will get it worked out at some point. -
Why don't we just spawn player's randomly throughout all towns/cities? This way the coast isn't over popped, people stop QQing about the dangers of the beach, player's in the north have to be more leary (more player's further inland)..... the whole game will take on a new spin (Of course you could make the coast a more common spawn, inland a rarer spawn). Just a suggestion. Love the New Z's. Seems like Loot drops have been reduced (If so, love that as well), I see more vehicles (A boat a bike and a chopper all in one run) Like that. Z's are DEF Scarier.... like it. Survivor's have to actually survive to start a character (Making dying..... a lot shittier, I like it). I just don't want to see anything made easier. I already teamed with a few kid-o's to try and increase our survival rate (Or get backstabbed) Oh Day 5, Played all day. Zombies aren't shit so stop bitchin Kids. (they are kinda scurry)

Currently have about 14 land vehicles and 1 water vehicle piled up in a camp made up of about 8 active people. 7 ATVS, 1 UAZ, 1 Offroad, 1 Hippy Van, 1 Truck, 2 Tractors, 1 Motorcycle, and 1 Speed boat. We get around a lot. -

I've found lots of vehicles in DayZ, my opinion, don't get too attached. Once I found a freshly spawned tractor that needed repair but was still functional, I drove it until it ran out of gas and parked it in the trees beside a road and left for a couple hours to get parts and more gas. I returned a few times with tires and crap to fix it up, but had a hard time finding a jerry can, so finally I did and came back(had only been about 2hrs since I first parked it) and it was gone. No biggy, but damn it was taken in under 2hrs in the middle of the night. Another time I found someones Military Off-road truck in the woods, so I drove it up and down the coast line until I slammed it into a trash pile and popped a tire. It was a spectacular failure. It was literally just 200m outside of Cherno on the main highway so I ran down the road and spotted a survivor, tailed him and eventually made contact, no text or voice chat but he didn't kill me, so I lured him back to the truck and then logged off and went to bed, it was gone the next day. I wish (and suggested it) that there were way more vehicles, but far less parts. I don't even bother trying to fix them anymore, it too much effort just to leave it for someone else to steal. So, after the 1.7.1 patch (with all the vehicles being reset after the clans hoarded them) I took it upon myself to gather some car parts and find a vehicle. I gathered 3 wheels, and a fuel tank. Luckily, that's just what I needed to repair Dawg Mk. II (Dawg Mk. I was a bus). The problem is that because I really only trust one other person in-game, I'm too paranoid to go anywhere with it. Spaghetti was falling out of my pockets left and right in Zeleno for a refuel. I almost never go anywhere with my car either. When I'm on, I just drive through the woods. And when I'm waiting for my friend to get geared before I pick him up this is what I'm doing. Edit: Btw, I know people accuse you of hacking like crazy if you have a good gun and low zombie/player kills. If I'm requested by an authority figure, I was recording when I picked up that gun off somebodies dead body near a tent as I was driving along the map. (Hope Image Code Works XD) Obviously this is not a problem with the game. I'm just curious, does anyone else feel this way? After three weeks of playing in-game this has been my first and only good vehicle. I'm just too paranoid to do anything with it. Anyone else feel this way? Why or why not I suppose. BTW, here's a vid of me and a friend repairing the bus/me repairing my offroad.

My new purpose in life instead of racking up kills and staying alive for 10+ days is not collecting vehicles, but discovering parking lots and having fun with frags. I am not a friendly flute, I just realize that every player is a human who plays the game to have fun...and vehicles are fun...damn fun. I will not deny others that fun simply because I like to log into a collection. -
Starting with no weapon... and zombie sight range/speed

Well, i'll disagree a little. First off, slower zombies would make the game more interesting and less twitch. Right now, you spawn a zed and you CAN NOT outrun it. Thats a problem. I do like the 28 days reference and all, but I think that having zombies be generaly sense deprived along the lines of senses (more along the lines of The Walking Dead style). In addition, the Arma2 engine is not designed for Melee, in that case people should have access to weapons, especially at the start Finally, if there was an apocalypse, the only people who would probably still be alive are those with guns and/or vehicles. In a war torn country like Cherno you'd see a LOT of people with firearms, even farmers and hunters. You'd also probably be prone to a military presence in cities, many of whom would have battle rifles and armoured vehicles strewn all over the place.
