VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16
Chambers (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I'm okay with a bit of vehicle hoarding. They found them' date=' they fixed them, they should get some use out of it. Maybe that camp of 15 is for a group of 20-30 guys, who knows? I'm just looking address the fact that if they log in and save regularly, and primarily use it for storage, barring theft, vandalism, or server freakout, they pretty much have a perfectly working vehicle [b']permanently. Cars break down eventually. I'm just thinking of realistic ways to not only keep a little more vehicles in active rotation, but add something that adds a bit of impermanence to it, not screw players out of storage, and add some new game play factors that can keep play interesting after you've had your fun with your vehicle for a while. -

I'm using it. But I'm not a fkn nolifer. Perhaps the perceived 'griefing' opinion comes off as harsher than I intended, and distracts from the suggestion I made further down in my previous post. I'm not a nolifer either, but the situation is a bit frustrating. I don't expect or want this game to be easy. The reward is only as good as the challenge. I'm not looking for a change that punishes players by just taking their loot, but looking at possibilities for a balancing mechanic that would add a reasonable factor of realism and add a bit of continued challenge long after you have one or more vehicles. If it was kept at 7 days rather than just the 3 I suggested, how does the idea of older repaired vehicles breaking down permanently with a small chance of further repair strike people? I'm trying to be constructive here, and not just simply bitching. Why do you think anything is required beyond stopping vehicles from being hidden off the edge of the map? I have seen screen shots of a valley off the edge of the map with literally 15 vehicles in it. THAT is why you don't see many vehicles on any popular server. -
The server was SA2 this happened on. This happened 8:35pm (Central Standard Time) June 28th. The people that were involved that can back it up are: xStone(forum name), xSlay(forum name), Herr Otto(forum name), Herz Jaeger(forum name) xStone and xSlay came across someones base and we started looting it. We got some friends that were close by to help. In the middle of looting the place a player came online and attacked us. We killed him and attempted to leave with their vehicles. As we were leaving the area, the server disconnected and shut down. It is not on the server list anymore. The server didn't restart it shut down completely. Its been half an hour since this has happened and the server is still not available. We are led to believe this was an admins camp because they shut down the server once we killed him to prevent us from getting his stuff. I have a photo of the camp when we were trying to escape right before the server shut down. This is a photo of the camp when we were raiding it. Notice the tractor and red sedan just like the first picture. This is when we were driving off with the vehicles and the server is disconnecting. If you look closely you can see the server SA2 in brackets in the middle left. This is unacceptable and admins should not be abusing their powers to not lose. This is part of the game and they should have to face the consequences if they don't hide well enough.

Might as well remove the Zombies and call it DayPVP
manta-avoid replied to TJBain's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah. When you overcome the challenges in any situation, do you not naturally seek more interesting, engaging and rewarding challenges? Sure. Shooting relatively defenceless players is less interesting than zombies, and you're always going to find players who do that. So go hunt down someone's camp and the server's vehicles, or lay an ambush at a gas station. Make the world interesting. Don't rely on spoon-fed stimulus or role play to spice it up. Do something that's a challenge! -

Why do vehicles erupt in balls of flame?
CriticalNerd replied to nacrom's topic in New Player Discussion
Cars IRL don't explode like in the game or the hollywood movies. Especially from bullets they dont. Most likely the fuel reservoir will pop [and you need to have a leak or a physical opening] but in no way that you think it will. Also, I'm guessing in Cherno vehicles use diesel fuel and not benzine fuel, which is even harder to "explode". -

VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16
billw replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
For the love of god why do people keep arguing about this? The ******only****** problem, and the main reason for vehicle scarcity, is groups hoarding vehicles OFF MAP. If they are ON MAP you can go find them, therefore any change to despawn time is irrelevant. It is just as easy to find vehicles in a camp that is ON MAP as it is to find and repair a spawned vehicle. If your problem is that you spend all your time on the coast and never find vehicles then it should be pretty obvious to you that the problem is YOU not the vehicle mechanics. Vehicles can be seen from a LONG way away making it pretty easy to find camps with them stashed as long as they are on map. -
stupid wire and tank traps
ultimateburger replied to sinsprophecy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree, the barbed wire everywhere has become ridiculous. It's funny seeing it a couple times, but when every loot location is blocked off, it ruins the game. Not sure if there is a way to wipe the barbed wire from servers without trashing tents/vehicles? -
I take it you are, but maybe you should take a look at this all the same: http://www.youryoure.com/ Replace the word 'card' with the word 'map' and his post makes perfect sense. People from my country make that mistake all the time, it is no big deal. So please, take your nationalistic 'herrenvolk' attitude and flush your rotten self down the bog, you bloody BNP tosser. On topic: I would prefer to have more space to play on, not less, but I guess the chernarus map is a placeholder anyway and the final product (expandalone, dlc, separate game?) might not necessarily use it. I'd like to play on a larger map as that would make it possible/easier to hide things like tents and vehicles without resorting to off-map sillyness.

"I am writing in their native language that is the problem I have with the server throws a belgium. We played it with friends but after rebooting the server I'm a friend of mine got such a ban. On the other servers we go but it comes to belgium 1 then kick us again. I do not want to lose all the things that I have there." Google translate is not perfect, but it just helped to clarify what I was already decently sure he was trying to convey in his posts. Sounds like they all keep getting kicked from the server all of a sudden after having been regulars on the server and obtaining vehicles/tents there since they are reluctant to leave. Might be abuse when they found out that him/his friends had vehicles, a ping limit might have been implemented and they are being kicked by it but not understanding, and so on. Really I am not sure, but since nobody else bothered to I figured I would post the google translated results of what he typed to see if it helped anyone. Just seems like another abuse report thread where nothing will get done because it is hard to get good proof or anything done for things like this.

Do teleporting hacks exist? US 131
AnthraXx replied to batcaveslimer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Rofl wish I was still online to see this!!! The fact that this server got hacked before and our camp got messed up, crying over the only vehicle left in the map (Bikes/ATV's) yeah its the only transport left... since a bunch off hackers teleported all the main cars/trucks. This included a Bus, 2 flat beds, blue hippy van, white pick up, UAZ and Land-rover (military) along with some bikes and these vehicles were not in the same place we spaced them around about 800m's apart in fern trees you could hardly see them. so now everyone that plays has to resort in running for 30/1 hour to get to the other side of the map where they wanna be to meet people... "its just an ATV"... Yes the only one left in the god damm map. "He's a hacker cause he can see in the dark? I don't think you quite know what that means." Have you played pitch black in the woods trust me you wouldnt see anything it would look like your screen was turned off. -
What I said was exactly what you can read in that entire post you've quoted from. Once we saw at least 12 of them in a single area. Other times there were as little as 1 or 2. And yes, during one instance we fought maybe 7-8 of them and managed to kill nearly all of them before getting blown up by a rocket launcher. Unlike the admin of that server, the Russian hackers didn't do anything other than spawn in crazy items and hoard vehicles(as far as I can tell). So when we killed them they didn't teleport right back in like Rajko does, and they weren't invincible either. We won in the end when they all got banned from the server. I really don't mind playing against hackers that spawn in items. Its a welcome challenge, in fact, since my group is generally over-geared for fighting the average lone survivor. Hackers are everywhere in DayZ. If you can't hold your own against them, you're probably a baddie. Especially was it cool with the Russians, since it really did feel like we were fighting heavily armed NPCs. Its not like we fought them every single second of the day, but when we did it was awesome. Eventually we were killing them with their own weapons. Hackers have become so commonplace in DayZ it seems, so if they happen to creep up on the server I frequent, I'm not going to just flat out quit. Its quite a challenge fighting hackers and the payoff in gear is usually stellar. If Battleye isn't going to do anything about them I might as well accept the fact and use it to my advantage. I only get bothered when the actual server owner who is supposed to be responsible for combating hacking is himself a hacker, and exploits much more than just spawning hacked gear. TL;DR version: Yeah. We fucking raped those Russians to death. Deal with it.

Do teleporting hacks exist? US 131
Syntraxx replied to batcaveslimer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Drakargh was clearly trolling, and no, he didn't have NVGs. I killed him and checked his body. If you read my other post, you would probably noticed I said he had headlights on. Who uses headlights with NVGs? Edit: Also, who's crying over a lost ATV? I recovered it, and if you actually read my post, I said things like this happen and it's to be expected. The map isn't that big and camps/vehicles are easy to find. Edit 2: Also pointed out "his ATV" as a fact that he didn't post the real story, as to it was an actual stolen ATV and the way he posted made it seem like people teleported to his camp, killed him and stole his vehicle, which is not the case. -
Do teleporting hacks exist? US 131
Syntraxx replied to batcaveslimer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was the one that killed you, Slimer. Logged in to camp before sleeping to return what was left of my supplies to the ATV, only to notice the headlights and engine on, with someone driving around. So I turned on my NVGs and hunted you down with my MP5SD. No teleporting involved, it's not hard to follow bright lights and loud sounds. Unloaded about a clip and a half to finally kill you. You didn't drive in circles, but instead you drove in a straight line, and turned around and drove back, which was when you died. Assuming you were also the one that killed Drakargh? Anyway, doesn't really bother me that someone found it, but what bothers me is that you say "my ATV", and you managed to find an ATV in the woods, during night time without NVGs. Not accusing you of anything, maybe you were just lucky. But why would you say "my ATV" on an ATV you just found? Improper wording? Wouldn't someone usually say "Driving an ATV I just stole in the woods" or something similar. Congrats on the find, and shame it ended with your death. Vehicles come and go. Actually a little upset you didn't get away with it, because I'll probably die from the ATV anyway from flipping it. On a side note, there was also a bunch of weapons missing from the ATV, not sure if you deleted them, or we were raided earlier. Raids happen, no big deal. -
so currently my bandit team is a tight knit group of 4-5 guys. we have 2 insanely good snipers. heres our general roster Xiphos- me , when we dont have a full lockdown i assist in spotting for the snipers and if their within 300 meters i assist in taking them down. when we have lockdown i am the medic that runs from tower to tower giving the snipers and spotters food supplies and medical attention. Wookiefurrug-my partner in scavenging. hes also very skilled at flushing out players from buildings and is a very knowledgeable player when it comes to where anything may spawn and general game mechanics. Kevin-hes the newest addition to our group so until he gets better at surviving on ground level with the zombies and other mishaps hes one of our main spotters and ... bait :3 ( we took down a few admins using him as bait XD ) Random_Hero-one of our best survivors and one of the designated snipers. a bit sadistic buy hey, hes Australian XD his main goal is not to die and to absolutely annihilate anyone who enters our city without permission. and always keeps us all laughing with his uncanny antics ROOFIES-which is the better sniper, roofies or random is a tough call. roofies works insanely well under pressure when admins get mad at us or hackers go into action. or just some other sniping squad attempts to contend with us. hes also the cornerstone to us being badits as he plants the seed of shoot first then before the player bleeds out yell over direct channel "NO TEARS NOW,ONLY DREAMS!" so he corrupts us but hey it adds to the fun ^_^ roofies and random usually have some pretty hilarious arguments when the going is slow and people have figured out that cherno is ours :) discussions of hair products while systematically wiping out a cute little band of 5 survivors is not uncommon. hopefully we can add new additions as we are hoping to expand our squad to encompass both cherno and electro and we plan to collect vehicles and make a sick little fortified bandit camp. :) otherwise our general tactics are this, we have a home server > seattle 67 great admin names robbie. he took it upon himself to kill us because noobs were complaining. it didnt end well for him XD, anyways when we get our eyes on say seattle 95 ( usually 40-50 people) we will all get into position on the clocktower and various other sniping positions. we usually have 1 soptter on the tallest tower in cherno in the industrial district and as i said snipers on their various posts. when we enter a server we all participate in sniping until we are generally clear then we go to our general roles. but anyways we get into position on our posts and then log off 67 and join whatever server were going to lock down. right when we get in everybody scans all sectors and calls any spotted survivors. they are quickly dispatched and if anyones shot in the process i run over and bandage them and get them back to full health. we wait 5-10 min after joining a server before declaring lockdown. depending on how active the population is in the city we may extend it further but its usually all good after 4 min. (average 4-7 player kills before the server realizes cherno is not up for the taking :) ) then we do our normal rounds. i scavenge with wookie and tend to nay medical needs. and thats about it , we have a very good system of calling out positions as we have our own teamspeak server so we dont have to use direct chat. it seems like every day we have new adventures that are just plain hilarious. but otherwise thats our general story / strat. i hope some of you find it useful! if anyone wants to join us my skype is : Tachyonxl

Apart from the Huey, there are no vehicles with mounted weapons. If you find a vehicle with a gun attached, its hacked.
-
There was a thread of vehicles that were recently (few weeks to a month) added to the mod. The little bird was among them, with a couple other new choppers. However, all aircraft spawns SHOULD be disabled as of couple patches ago due to them having several issues with performance. Unless the dev team has manually allowed littlebird spawn on the server, it's hacked. I would assume hacked because you just can't be sure.

Guys I have been reading on the forums and it seems that Dallas forums are slowly moving to new locations (from what I have read they go to Seattle and Atlanta?) and one other thread about one of the Dallas servers has been confirmed by its admin. ( http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=22820 ) So I looked at the information about our server and it said that it has been down since 27th but 4 new servers Seattle 130, Seattle 131 and two other have been running since 27th. I am away from home now until Monday so I cannot confirm it, but if I am right Seattle 131 might be our server. Can someone confirm it and post the results? :) (out tents and vehicles should still be there)

So I've been playing for about a week now and I consider myself relatively well versed in DayZ throughout my many lives as I've acquired nearly all there is and killed my share of people. However, this is the first time I've found a vehicle. A friend and I sort of stumbled upon it with a full tank of gas and nothing urgently requiring fixing, and we don't know what to do with it. It's pretty well in the middle of the map. It seems impossible to hide except for going off of the map unlike other, smaller vehicles. It also seems like suicide to drive it through towns (but it can't offroad...). Yet I still can't bring myself to just abandon it. What do?
-
I travel a lot on ATVs and Bicycles on a server that seems to crash/restart a lot and what I described happens to my vehicles 100% of the time. From my experience and understanding it should be the player's location that's updated more often and the vehicle's only on entering/exiting and saving. Either way, having vehicles teleport around is annoying and really disruptive. I wish it was higher on Rocket's to-do list.

"Save vehicle" - Forces a save. Vehicles automatically saves when it is damaged/repaired/disembarked. Unless it's been changed in the past month or so. Vehicle Save Option

what exactly does save vehicle do? im assuming it saves the vehicles location so it doesn't dissapear. however, whats the difference between 'saving vehicle' and just leaving the vehicle behind? the vehicle won't disappear either way. 121212

Yes, most of the vehicles have storage, just like tents. I like tents better. No one can drive them away... ;P
