Found/stolen tons of vehicles ... never been sniped or had anyone try to get it back while we took it. The odds are prolly in your favor.
-
No vehicles get destroyed atm. They might blow up but they will come back magicaly on a server restart where they blew up fully working again. Nothing is respawning atm. Also if u hit a tree and shit goes red but doesnt blow up you can get out and get back in and the vehicle will magically repair itself. Many reasons why most people dont see any vehicles for weeks/months. That and the fact clans still stash every vehicle on the server in an off map location sometimes 300 km/s off the map, good luck finding those. Lots more pressing matters to fix other than those mentioned above, get used to running everywhere.
-
Okay? So does that mean they're not on the server? You're better off finding vehicles that are in other player's hands anyway. They will be repaired for you and often packed full of amazing loot. Hardly something to bitch about... Also, 99% is a silly exaggeration. I've never been on a server where I coudn't find at least one vehicle at its original spawn location. Search harder.

I need a legit clan. What I mean by that is a clan with a home server/base and what not. I find vehicles often, and I would like to place them in the base for anyone to use as I rarely feel the need to use them. I wouldn't mind getting helicopter rides by teammates though. I favor LMGs(currently using an M249) for urban combat and general teamplay support, and I carry a DMR in my bag for long range engagements. I am highly aggressive specially when I feel threatened. However, I will never attack someone that spots me first and yells friendly instead of shooting me. I usually help them actually.
-
I don't know the exact number, but it's FAR more than 10. There are more than 10 types so that would mean there isn't even one of every vehicle? My team and I have been in possession, at peak, of ~14 vehicles and we still encountered other groups who had their own on the same server. My guess is probably 35-50. Somewhere in that range.
-
I think bikes are the best vehicles in the game. All other vehicles are just tents with benefits.

While playing on the US90 server some friends and I have experienced what we think is a group of abusive admins or hackers. Ever since we looted a massive car lot and found the motherload of gear it seemed as if we were being watched. Our camp, which was filled with the stolen loot, was raided shortly after we established it and everything was taken back. This didn't really strike us as odd because we had two big red tractors that could've easily given away our positions. So as any other player would do, we searched the area and ended up finding a few of our vehicles. We proceeded to establish two new camps that were on complete opposite sides of the map from each other, but we were now low on supplies so we had to make runs into towns. The problem was that everytime we were close to a town, a group of people with a yellow hatchback would show up. This happened three or four times. It was like they knew exactly where we were, no matter what town we were in. After about a week and a half of gathering gear, our camps wear doing well. We then discovered that camp A had been completly emptied of all gear and vehicles. This wasn't a big deal because we had our second camp to fall back onto. About an hour later we find a repairable helicopter. So naturally we fly around looking for our missing vehicles. Then we come acrossed a group of survivors and it just so happens that when we get them cornered, the server crashes. When it resets we log back in with no helicopter and have to walk all the way back to camp. After the fourty five minute hike back to camp B, we discover that it has been raided as well. The chances of all these things happening in one session of Dayz is incredibly unlikely and made me stop and think. I thought maybe this was all bad luck until the next day when i logged in. I was stuck in the "Creating Character" menu, so i started to group chat with some random people. One guy tells me that he saw an admin flying a tank around the map. As soon as another player confirms that he saw the same thing, the server crashes. This sealed the deal for me. I'm almost positive that the admins have something to do with it. If not then its a group of hackers and that's not ok either.

Vehicles are capped; you can only find a new one spawned on the map if a current vehicle is destroyed. For parts, you can try The Factory south of Berezino; it's not as popular as many of the other heavy industrial spawn points, though you should still be careful.
-
They do not; those people are called vehicle hoarders. Usually clans hoard a lot of the vehicles at their base not to mention loot. Loot does respawn, however.
-
False ... I see other vehicles driving all the time. And we certainly dont just hide/hoard our vehicles ... we use the shit out of them. The areas most likely to spawn a good amount of car parts ( jerry cans, engine parts, fuel tank parts, scrap metal, glass, and tires ) are the industrial/factory areas. Get a loot map and take a look at where these industrial areas are ... and enjoy ;]

[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
[email protected] replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
http://steamcommunity.com/id/chilln420/screenshots so vehicles still dont dissapear if you leave them off map? You need your camp pipe bombing sir, what server are you on. Let me just game tracker you names. il be intouch -
I found a blue van and wasted about 1 hour repairing it only for it to explode when i hit the left front tire on a debris. Is there are reason why vehicles are so weak? Last time we hit a bus on a tank trap and only the right front wheel was in need of replacement. :/

Inconsistent starting conditions, how is this supposed to work?
Disgraced replied to entelin's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Vehicles and tents are server specific. Gear that one carries should travel with the character. I would say that how it works... is right now it doesn't work. You will hear it time and time again, this is a beta test of a mod, and things like this can happen. I can't say that I've seen this specific issue, but given the flood of 'me too' posts and redundant 'bug reports' going up, I've stopped really paying attention. I suppose that the main question would be when you say the same version, are you talking about the experimental one (1.7.2.1), or the last released set of files (1.7.2). If it's the latter, I would not expect any level of consistency or real playability. That's being fixed now but it isn't yet. So it is probably frustrating, but we just have to ride it out. -
This Is My Story (The Account of a DayZ Survivor)
lamesaint posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hey guys! So I was watching some DayZ videos earlier today, and I felt the urge to begin writing a story of a survivor in DayZ. I took about an hour and a half to sit down, and begin loosely outlining the story and writing the first chapter. I'm going to post the first chapter here before I put any more work into it. I want to test out the reaction of the community before I decide to continue any further. If the community reaction is good, then there will be more chapters coming soon! Please note that this is a very rough draft, without ANY editing, and written right off the top of my head. If you find any errors or constructive criticism, feel free to leave it here! Hope you enjoy! Chapter I This is my story. The first thing I remember about those DayZ was pain. A lot of pain. I reached up and pressed my hand against my head, feeling dried blood just above my temple. The wound was clearly at least a day old, as the blood flaked off when I touched it, but it still hurt like hell. I remember looking around, trying to figure out where I was. I was on the shore, just a few hundred meters from a small town. I couldn't for the life of me remember how I had gotten here. What had happened to me? How had I gotten the wound on my head? The last thing I remembered was making dinner for Lily and myself. The news was on in the living room, something about an infectious outbreak of some new disease in Chernogorsk. Thankfully we lived in Berezino, far from Cherno, and the military would undoubtedly quarantine the whole area to contain the infection. I had to pull myself together though. I was in an unfamiliar area, with a head wound and memory loss. I had to find out where I was and try to get back home. I checked myself over for other wounds, but besides my head I was in perfect condition. I pulled my backpack off and began to rummage through it. All I had was a flashlight, some painkillers, and a medical bandage. Slinging my backpack over my shoulder again, I struck out toward the town, hoping to find someone to let me borrow their mobile phone. I could call Lily and have her take me to the hospital, and we could go from there. As I neared the town, I saw a road sign ahead of me and off to my left. I was in Komarovo, just west of Chernogorsk where the news had said the infectious outbreak was. I could see people in the street though, so obviously the infection had been confined to Cherno. I walked toward the nearest person and called out to them, waving my hand. Their head snapped toward me and I knew something was wrong. His face was covered in blood, and his skin was a sickly grey color. I felt numb with terror as the man charged toward me. I turned and ran as fast as I could into the woods nearby, hoping to shake him. I could hear his footsteps as he gave chase, all the while issuing bone chilling screams. Ahead of me I saw my chance to possibly lose him. The forest floor was thickly covered with brush, and I dove through it without hesitation, then changed direction and ran as fast as I could away from him. As I heard him crashing through the same brush I had just left, I decided to hide behind a particularly large tree. I was shaking with terror and adrenaline as I pressed my back up against the cool bark. I could hear him exit the brush, and hear his sounds of rage as he realized he had lost me. Finally, his footsteps receded into the distance as he headed back to Komarovo. I stealthily crept through the woods, following the man's trail. I had to know what the hell was going on. As I came to the edge of the forest, I dropped down and pressed myself as close to the ground as I could. I surveyed the small town for a good five minutes, noticing things that I hadn't before. The streets were littered with garbage and debris. Cars were demolished and burned. Windows on many of the houses were gone completely. And even more terrifying: the remnants of what looked to be a military quarantine. Military vehicles were spread throughout the town, but all were destroyed. The dead bodies of soldiers scattered the area. Could these people and the man who chased me be infected with whatever had hit Cherno? If so, what kind of disease could turn a person into what that man had become? No matter what the answers to my questions were, one thing was certain: I had to get into the town. My throat was parched; my tongue so dry that I couldn't bring up enough spit to wet it. My stomach growled at me as if to tell me that it too needed immediate attention. It was already getting dark, so I decided to wait for nightfall before I made my way in. Hopefully darkness would provide me with enough cover to get in and out without being seen. As the sun finally set below the horizon, I began my slow crawl from the woods to the town. Infected people were everywhere, and it was fairly easy to identify where they were in the dark. The infected made sounds like they were growling and choking on their own blood at the same time. Even so, I couldn't help but get goosebumps and start to shake whenever I heard that gargling noise right above my head. After about an hour, I was finally inside the town. I crawled from house to house, trying to find an open building. Finally, I found one, and I quickly snuck inside, closing the door softly behind me. Empty tin cans littered the floor inside the home. I searched from room to room, and was about to give up until something caught my eye in the dark: an axe. The edge shone softly in the muted light coming through the window. I picked it up and tested the edge with my thumb. It was still pretty sharp, and should serve me well in case I attracted the attention of any more infected. I found nothing else of any value inside the town, so I decided to leave, and begin my 200 kilometer trek back to Berezino. I moved quietly through the streets, crouching now instead of crawling since I had the axe to protect myself. My biggest obstacle was finding food and water. Dehydration would probably kill me before any of the infected could. Finally outside of the town, I noticed a gas station along the road to Cherno. I decided to check it out, hoping that I could find something to eat and drink. My efforts were rewarded with some Pepsi and can of beans. I popped open the Pepsi and gulped it down, wetting my dry mouth and immediately feeling better. The can of beans proved more difficult, and I ended up using my axe to cut open the top and scooped the beans through the hole with my fingers, eating every last bean. Feeling newly invigorated, I hefted my axe and started toward Cherno, the source of the infection, and my best chance for finding more supplies, and hopefully other people. -
Military Offroads Missing in 1.7.2?
Rabbican replied to Macenzie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes our military off-road also disappeared from the middle of our camp, none of our tents or other vehicles were touched, and we had just acquired the off-road 3 days ago (repaired it etc). I hope this awesome vehicle gets hot fixed back in! -
People use vehicles as mobile, death-permanent tents. Should they be removed? No. Barbed wire has its place, even if it is spammed a lot. Take, for instance, Freeside Traders - they've practically made Devil's Castle into a fortress during their trade meets by liberal use of barbed wire, tank traps, and sandbags. Want to get in? Use the guarded front gate or get shot while trying to remove a wall of wire 5 pieces thick. Even better, I once came across a server where a big group (9 people had their clan tag) had barricaded NWA. Yes, all of it - plugged up the fences with wire, and I could hear an ATV on the inside patrolling around. Great use of wire to completely set up shop in an otherwise deadly, high traffic area.

my vehicles are stuck on a server that hasnt upgraded yet

What you're talking about is a endgame of sorts. Since getting these vehicles practically requires a group, and future base building, electricity grids, etc will require it for sure, its the same thing really, unless you want to get into semantics and be picky. Thats the great thing about sandbox games. Sure there are things which can be construed as being endgame (vehicles, bases, high end equipment, etc) but they don't really matter much without a group. Its all about the group.

Agree or Disagree? Why we kill...
Whattteva replied to bbilbo1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree with the OP, cause it sort of depicts how it would be if apocalypse really did happen. Yes, you would get some serial killers, but the majority of the population is simply not like that. Taking someone's life in real life takes balls. Not everyone can just pull the trigger easily. I myself can't even stand the sight of something gruesome too much. I'm pretty sure at least half the people here can't even handle seeing most trauma injuries you see in ER's without throwing up. Besides, you can't survive on your own indefinitely. Eventually, you need people to do things that you have no expertise on. Someone needs to figure out how to build vehicles, how to generate electricity, how to build shelter, how to build weapons/ammo etc.. etc.. The human race got to where it is now because of this very reason. We depend on others to do things that we can't do on our own. Humans are by nature, very social creatures. Of course, this becomes moot in a game where cans of beans, vehicles, ammo, weapons just conveniently spawn out of nothing. As much as some people would like to claim how "realistic" this game is, it just simply isn't. Killing some pixels is far far easier than actually killing a real human unless you are one of those psychopathic serial killers whose brains we still have yet to understand fully. Unlike normal people, they feel neither remorse nor happiness when they kill others... just complete indifference. -
Why do you post this every day, Dallas? When every day I point out the fact that you are wrong? The disadvantage to "deathmatch" game play is death. If death is not a disadvantage in the game, then what is? What, if not death, is the measure of disadvantage? Death means loss of player location, potential loss of gear, wiping of kill stats, survival duration, being separated from friends/partners, etc. Bandits are less than 20% of the players, but account for over 40% of the deaths. That is a disadvantage. You cannot claim otherwise. Please stop trying. Says who? You? "What is DayZ?" tells me that one of the goals is to scavenge, one is to slay zombies and bandits (which implies the presence of bandit-like activities) and one is to survive. It is just as valid to call this a banditry mod as it is to call it a survival mod. Simply because you have some pre-conceived notion that this is a "survival game" and that PvP just happens to be one of the mechanics doesn't that you have the right of it and the rest of the players who might be playing it as a "bandit game" with survival elements have somehow got it wrong. And based on rocket's statements here on the forums and in interviews, he wants people to make up their own minds about what the mod is about. He's not going to tell them and if he's not willing to make that call then you sure as hell shouldn't be trying to on his behalf. That's just absolutely silly. Pure unadulterated silliness. And saying it makes you look silly. I've listed the disadvantages above. The ONLY disadvantageous things in this game are a result of death. And if death isn't a disadvantage, how can PvP POSSIBLY be a problem for anyone? Surely if death is irrelevant then it doesn't matter what anyone does? What percentage of players in this game do you think play as part of a group/clan that is organized enough to replace an entire suit of high-tier gear multiple times per day? Ignoring the ones who are currently exploting tent and item duplication bugs to allow for such? I play constantly with 5-6 players and we loot high value targets all the time. Like, hours a day. We still don't have NVGs for everyone, let alone replacements, we have NO range finders in the group, and the high value weapons we have are mostly 1-2 each, at most. 1 AS50, 1 M107, a couple SAWs. If we die, we lose gear, our next guy isn't going to be kitted out in 3 minutes. And I think that's true of almost everyone who plays this game. You're greatly exaggerating the presence of these mega-corp clans who have unlimited gear and resources. And as I said, most of those that DO exist only get by by exploiting loopholes that will soon be closed. And honestly if they do exist then you need to find their camp, raid their tents and vehicles, and prevent them re-gearing their new members so easily. Now that you cannot store vehicles and tents off-map, there should be no safe haven for these guys to store their unlimited wares.

Boats are pointless atm: - So slow that you can actually run faster. - Your temp drops while on a boat so need to get on land to warm up. - You cant eat food or drink or anything while on a boat so you always need to get off to do this. - Your a sitting duck for other players because you can't shoot back. - And they take more fuel than vehicles do to travel the same distance.

Hello. I have a really big problem with getting this game to work. All along actually it has been very hard to even make progress to semi getting the game to work. After many days of working on it there is really only one problem left from keeping me from playing that no one seems to know anything about and i have no idea about. The problem is that when i play arrowhead, the loading screen is all messed up. Even though I would be playing arrowhead, the loading screen is from arma 2 and then the main menu is the one from arma 2. The loading screen is the green one with the soldier on it and two helicopters instead of the arrowhead loading screen and main menu. I really believe that this is messing up the game and not allowing dayz to work. The game doesnt load at all like arrowhead with the tanks and vehicles in front of the hangar and then the main menu is like tanish. Its almost like my game isnt updated even though it is. Then when the game goes to main menu, it says like it can't find a file or something. It is really messed up and anyone who knows anything about this or experienced anything, help would be so much appreciated. Thanks. p.s I posted the pictures of what the loading screen looks like and the main menu screen below.

Sanctuary in Chernogorsk - A New Hope
Aidan The Enforcer posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was speaking with a friend yesterday and we had a glowing idea of hope. We would like to establish a Cherno as a safety zone. We realize it would require large resources, and numerous players but here is the idea: Phase 1: Establish, Recruit, Unify, Collect, and Fortify. 1. Establish a server as "The Safe Zone" 2. Recruit the necessary personnel to cover Cherno. 3. As a group we set aside our own fears of death and become concerned of three things; The project, the Survivors we will be protecting, and the others in the project. 4. Collect vehicles to act as our product transportation system, then collect the resources needed for Phase 1. 4. Fortify the City using tank traps, sand bags and barbed wire. At this moment Cherno could be declared secure with the completion of Phase 1. Phase 2:Establish, Scout, Collect, Personnel Defense, and Access. 1. Establish a tent city in the park in Cherno to house the supplies. A strict policy of limiting access to high end weapons collected by the project members from falling into general users hands. 2. Send out fast light vehicles to scout cities and towns and call back if they are resourceful. If so a convoy of members is sent out to strip the city, and return the resources to Cherno. 3. Establish the first line of defense where by snipers with their favorite weapon sit on city heights as an over watch both internal and external of Zombie and Players as needed. 4. Create channels in the defense system to place stationed guards to allow loot collected to funnel into the city and survivors for supplies. I would suggest a North, South , East, and West access for survivors, but only a North, East, And West for convoys. IF the project seems to struggle the strict policy of no survivors receiving high end weapons from us could be dropped, i'm suggesting it at first as a way to keep bandits from coming in and then letting loose in the city. The idea is to change the attitude of "There is always someone in Cherno" from one of fear and concern into one of hope. I know it is ambitious but i believe on a server with enough slots it could be completed and successful if people would be willing to commit them selves. Anyone interested in the Project is welcome to add me to Skype: AidanTheEnforcer. Just add a comment in your request saying Cherno. I'm also planning on doing some recordings and putting the on YouTube, again my name there is AidanTheEnforcer. -
Hello there Desynching whilst in vehicles is a known and common Arma2 issue. I doubt the dayz Devs (although BiS staff) will be able to do anything within the current build. try keeping the pings down of whomever is in the vehicle, although that's not a definite cure all. rgds LoK

I got on last night to find my friends on a very low populated server (2 not including them), so getting a lucky break we all met up in elektro, raided the loots there, then headed north. Even though it was dark, it was pretty fun, for this was the first time I had actually played with it at night. We got to the airfield as the server reached 4AM server time, so there were now 8 others in the game with it getting brighter in the morning. Scouted it out from the southern barracks, and we went for it. Sadly the loot was just fair. Only unique thing we found was one of those assault rifles with attached grenade launcher (and alot of AKM ammo for me). I got a question though. Is it easier to find vehicles up north? Gonna take a while to head back south, so we were searching for a vehicle with no luck before I logged.
