    URGENT: Two flying choppers?!!!?

There is no way choppers are enabled on new servers I can guarantee that. I play the same server every day, I have had like 15 different vehicles on that server been to every spawn, raided more camps then I can tell you and I have never seen a helicopter. I could be proved wrong but I'm sure I would have seen one, or at the very least one of them flying.

    Make vehicles more common

disagree with both points. In this scenario the vehicles would mostly be rusted / unkept after sitting for so long without maintenance and im assuming this game takes place atleast a few months after infection first takes place. If anything the vehicles as they stand should require more maintenance more often instead of running perfectly forever unless you are stupid enough to drive offroad.

    URGENT: Two flying choppers?!!!?

about the choppers and vehicles in general, if a server has vehicles enabeled, is there always a chopper on that server?

    Warning: Boundries

I wish I would have had a map, if I had realized you could go off map I'd never of gone west and just stuck to in the box, unfortunately though, my bike plus someone else's white truck are probably lost forever. Is there a bigger map for arma 2? I tried to look to see if I could get some terrain association but it seems the arma 2 map is exactly the same size. I hope Rocket cuts the map, I typically don't like artificial boundries but that's just crazy. I wonder how many vehicles are sitting out of bounds lost and broken cause of stupid mistakes like mine.
  5. I play on this server along with my 3 roommates and one other real friend. We have 4 vehicles and they are all located ON the map where other people could easily steal them along with our large amount of gear. I don't feel I deserve this ban as i'm not cheating in any way. Thanks in advance. Also I'd like to note that my roommates have not been banned from this server.
  6. There is no reason at all why other engines cant do a map the size of ARMA 2s. Most games dont do maps that big, mostly because the games arent being made for a map that big. UE3 or CryEngine 3 could do all the things ARMA2 does just fine. The one benefit of using ARMA2 while DayZ is a mod, is it offers a ton of weapons, vehicles, bullet physics, and huge maps right off the bat. These arent things Rocket or someone else would have to make, its already in the game. That being said, if you are making everything from scratch, UE3 or CryEngine 3 would be a better choice. Sure, it would take longer, you couldnt just port everything over, but they are just much more polished engines. They run fantastic, look fantastic, and (at least for UE3, dont know much about CE3) are very easy to use to build any type of game you want. Look at all the games using UE3, from MMOs to shooters, RPGs to strategy games, hell, even a free running game (Mirrors Edge). In short, ARMA2 is probably the best thing for DayZ right now, but in the long run, other engines have more potential.

US 708 [ZN] ZedNecks Camp Raid

Tis what I do. If your camp gets raided, it's a sign you didn't hide it good enough and you deserve to lose it. No "friendly" is going to have all those weapons in my experience with this game, and I guarantee they are being used for PKing purposes, IE: Bandits and well... destroying tents is a solid part of banditry. Do onto others as they would do onto you. I can't tell you how many tents I've raided, and destroyed when I was finished. As well as taking vehicles I didn't need, and destroying them so they'd respawn for someone else to find. When I find a vehicle hoarders camp with 3 or more vehicles there, I have a fucking field day. Especially if I find grenades in their vehicles. I'll destroy them all and leave typically the worst of them still standing, with some blown out tires of course and I'll put a .50 round into the engine, not to break it fully, but just so it's pretty much fully red. I HATE vehicle hoarders. 1 or 2? Fine. The whole god damn server worth of vehicles? Pray I don't find your shit.

    Chernaus Narco Tanks

Well as i mentioned to someone before, offensive is probably the wrong word, sensitive. Seeing as peeps from all ages are being massacred in horrific ways, wouldnt be suprised if someone whos been affected browses these forums. I guess its like along the same lines of saying, "holocaust, of course, was a terrible event, but look at them fucking Panzers bruuuv!!" I think it could be seen as offensive just cuz a very upsetting issue was slightly brought to the surface for the sake of saying, look at these amazing vehicles!!! But again, i do stand by it, cuz i am well read into it, and i didnt wanna just paste up pics of every other apocalypse film that peeps have seen.

    Camouflaging vehicles/keys & lockpicks

true, true, but on the other hand, that could also make it so that you wouldn't be able to loot the car either, meaning you'd be blowing up a load of stuff. Ofc, still, if you think like "if we can't have it, noone can!" then it will be that way. I generally love vehicles in the game now, since our clan started acquiering a few, and wish we could hide our babies better =P

    Vehicles? Who needs 'em

Findings vehicles and player camps are what keeps me going in DayZ. Otherwise, I'd be pretty bored up North.
  11. lol what a waste of ammo. you know those vehicles will just come back full health in the same place after a server restart right? and what a bunch of retards, stashing the vehicles off map so noone can have them, getting bored and trying to blow them up. go park them cherno or do something usefull with them.
  12. No ACP panel either. Bunch of hackers on last night spawning vehicles I need to reboot so I can remove them.

    Vehicles? Who needs 'em

It's amazing how you guys hit the barracks enough to find 3 m107s but not one AT4. You can put them in your backpack you know :) Nice video, I've always thought it would be funny to donate vehicles to people on the shore.

    Recommended Inventory?

I like to carry around a Jerry Can of gas in case I run into any vehicles that are operational but out of gas. I also like having a smoke gredade they're great for surviving a sniper if you've got one shooting at you.
  15. Agreed. Double would be awesome (and when I say double, I really mean quadruple area, as in: double the height and double the width of the map). It wouldn't need twice as many towns: You could just keep as many as there are now, but double the size of towns (even the "large" cherno and elektro are pitifully small, relative to real cities), and also double the space between them. This way, it would feel more real, vehicles would be more important, cities could have more personality, and you could flesh out the wilderness (hostile animals, foraging, etc). This is even more crucial. Imagine a 50-player server. If one in every two players has a tent, that's 25 tents that have to be hidden. But of course, a server's playerbase is not just the ones that are currently connected, as the time players access change a lot. Each server might have 200, 300 regulars. How do you hide 100 camps in a map this size? I think player interaction is just right, at the moment. If you want to keep away from others, you can. If you want trouble, you can find it. So double the size of the map (quadruple area) could house double, or up to four times as many, players. 200 players on a 900km² map? Yes, please.

How to end Ganking, and support Honor [ v ]

May I add something to this post that might shed some light about the experience of the victims of these violent players? Before I begin: I want to make it clear that I understands that this game isn't about PvP vs PvE, it's about the gamer, how he or she struggles to survive and to resist anyone making an attempt on your life. This mod isn't about punishing ANYONE because of their way of playing the game and conducting themselves in the world. The mod is about having players to decide how their experience should be and how they might want to impact the experiences of others. The events: This happened about five days ago. I had died many times, new player, by the hands of the infected population in Elektrozavodsk and Chernogorsk. But it wasn't hard for me to quickly grasp the basics of staying undetected from the infected. About then the first time I saw another player I was freshly spawned close by Elektrozavodsk, the player where running towards a office building. I was jolted, more aware of my surroundings as I moved closer to call out to that player - to ask for help of him. I was new so I thought that most players would not attack, therefore this player would perhaps be a member of that perceived larger group of kind players. So I darted between the houses into the alleyways so I could get close to the office building, protected by the shadows and walls to stop any bullets. I heard him shuffling about inside. I, for a short moment, hesitated to move into the building. I started to doubt my initial thought that just this player would be one of the good ones that doesn't shoot right away when they see anybody else. Then from the other side of the courtyard I saw moments behind a wall. It was another player, also newly spawned and unarmed as I was. That player didn't move as carefully as I did but instead he darted inside the office building to loot. I saw then a head popping up above the low wall on the balcony, looking down and around trying to detect that careful player. I retraced my steps so to conceal myself better. The first player moved into the building, raised AKM. I understood then that if he was a good player he would perhaps of called out "friendly" but he didn't so perhaps he was after easy loot. I remained reluctantly silent. Then the unarmed player, I'm quite sure of it, yelled out "Friendly! I'm Friendly! Don't kill me!" but was only greeted by two shots. I stayed hidden until the office building was empty. I did have a look on the shot player to see if he had anything on him, and he did: starting gear. That armed player killed for fun, as I see it. Scum. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This did happen about two days ago. I had survived for about two hours and found a V3S-truck at Stary Sobor filled with guns, ammunition, bandages, gadgets, food etc. I was ecstatic! I felt like I couldn't be touched by anyone. So, like the dumb moron I am, I started honking the horn. Loved it! I speed off to Novy Sobor, honking and behaving like I've lost it. I stayed at Novy Sobor to fill the tank to full. Rammed many infected without a second thought, one, a police infected officer, managed, somehow, to climb up on the floe of the truck. Didn't matter - couldn't touch me *Nana-nanana*. And as I neared Elektrozavodsk, still honking madly, I had this brilliant flash "hey why not just speeding through the town honking and attracting attention to show off >MY< V3S!? Brilliant"! Admitting that this is a stupid idea because many players will attack you without hesitation. They will unload everything if they got a change; I've even seen players throwing two or three grenades to kill just one poor unarmed player for the fun of it. But still I thought that they would avoid harming the V3S because vehicles are rare and valuable. So I entered Elektrozavodsk, early morning it was, with full speed. I drove down the street of the northern residential area, knowing that I would be driving extremely close to the office building and the grocery store and that was dangerous. And just as the front of the truck would get in height of the grocery stores gates, hell was set loose on the truck! From both sides and straight forward from the office building I was being assaulted with heavy fire. Suddenly I was knocked unconscious and could just barely see a wall approaching fast - the truck crashed to a sudden halt. Then suddenly a explosion destroyed the car and the players were laughing and screaming to each others. They killed for fun one could shortly explain it all. Of course I was being stupid but they attacked to gain another kill on their list, if they wanted the weapons they could of shot out the tires and killing me. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This one happened today. I saw a player close to Chernogorsk, whom did run away from me in fear - he was killed very shortly by two lowly campers that held the hospital under strict surveillance. All because he was afraid that I was going to kill him, as he surely must of been killed less then ten minutes before we saw each others and didn't wish that to happen again. I turned around towards the bar close to the church, crouching as I moved through the town. Often the silence was shattered by short bursts of gunfire and in correlation a kill-message would be announced - every time. The gunfire was very rarely answered, in short it was newly spawned players being killed for fun. I arraived at the church and entered it. Looted everything of value to me and was about the exit when I heard gunfire really close by. I backed into the church, hid and listened for movements. I could hear the players talking. They where discussing what they was going to do next. The other said that it was funny to kill players just for the fun of it and, of course, because of that little extra thrill you feel just before the shot. Therefore they should move to the hospital again becuase of the numbers of players visiting that place, the other claimed that the firestation should be guarded in search for easy kills. But before that they should search inside the church. I was unarmed, so you can understand me being nervours and scared. So before they could move I called out, stupid I know but I was trapped. I clearly stated that I was friendly many times, I even offered them something in return for sparing my life. They didn't even answer me but moved towards the gates of the church, so I threw a gas grenade. Obscuring the entrence I was going to make a dash for it! Yelling "I'm firendly please don't shot" I runned towards the opening just to be knocked down on my stomache by one single shot to the leg. It was broken. I stoped my bleeding - they stoped the shooting. They, somehow, did see that I was not armed. Instead they was mocking me and following me as I crawled down towards the hospital. They said that they felt sorry but couldn't help me because I where not their friend and other ridiculous claims. But they could at least guard me apparently because they killed all infected untill I got to the hospital. At the hospital they threw a road flare and shot two-three bullets to attract infected. Then they ran into the residential house right across the hospital. Laughing of course they sat there and did nothing as I was being consumed by the infected. I managed to ask them "why" and did receive the irritating answer "becuse it's fun". --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Basically this game is runned by, sorry, a** h**** that can't find anything better to do then killing unarmed players and players that's declaring themselves as friendly. Of course I understand that this is the part of the game that players are being killed despite that they're declaring themselves friendly. But it isn't fun to be the victim of a few very well armed players with the patient to camp for hours in any given location, I've been killed in the middle of the forest so there's is no place to hide from them. It isnt't fun when the game quickly boils down to PvP and camping as the main events of the game. Of course this mod are in alpha stage and we surely will see more to do but now it's ridiculous that you can predict EXACTLY where to find a camper. It's ridiculous that they rather shoot then engage in some kind of diplomacy or bargaining with other players to further expand the experience and depth of the game. The lack of motivations to act in a more diverse behaviourism then only shooting are of course the main reason behind this narrow behaviour.

    Server Version

Hi, I have a question, that I have been unable to find an answer. We're renting a server from MultiPlay, that they finally just now, managed to get up and running with fridays patches. Or.. at least thats what they say. The server browser tells us its 1.61.94878 of Arma II OE. But there's no way to tell which version of DayZ it is afaik. MultiPlays own system says its 1.7.2, which also the server name reflect, but their customer support just says that their naming template haven't been updated. But I'm not too enterily convinced since they need 2 days just to apply a simple patch. Is there a way to actually tell what version any given server is running? Is there an ingame command or something? Oh and another question, should all current servers have vehicles, or must one turn on some tags in server config?
  19. Before you read this, know that this is going to be a complete story of my adventures in DayZ thus far. If you're not interested in reading something long, I won't feel bad. If you are, enjoy! I started playing roughly a month ago now, and DayZ is pretty much the only game that's been able to hold my interest at all. You see, I used to be a fairly accomplished competitive Counter-Strike player (1.2-1.5, quit when 1.6 came out). Ever since then, nothing has really felt as tense, or as immersive. I was also 16 or 17 at the time, so there's something to be said there. Fast forward ten years, and I find DayZ. I'd heard about it for a couple of weeks, and ended up watching a couple of streams related to it. After watching some people that were actively playing (rather than just running through the woods, trying to find deer stands), I decided to give it a try. After a relatively smooth installation, I log in and spawn near Cherno. I'd heard stories; I knew better (or thought I did) than to sprint around like an idiot. I drop to prone, and promptly proceed to crawl my way from the Western forest into the church. I'm immediately spotted. "Friendly?" I called over VoN. The other survivor stopped for a moment, and seemed to contemplate what to do. I didn't have any weapons, only my trusty flashlight. After a few tense moments, I heard his voice crackle over the in game chat. "Er, yeah. Are you the guy that shot at me?" I stopped for a moment, about to respond; At which point another survivor ran into the church and opened fire on both of us with an AK of some sort, and mowed us down. Respawn. This time, I spawn in Prigorodki. After trying to orient myself, I end up running face first into four or five zombies. First hit, bleeding. Third or fourth hit, broken legs. Sixth hit, passed out. Not too long after that, I was dead. Respawn. I'm sure you can see where this is going. We all had virtually the same experience for the first week or so, trying to get used to the style of play that DayZ demands. I met some other friendlies along the way, and even came on the forums and made a post, trying to find some like-minded players. Two of them, I've been playing with almost every day since I met them. (Here's to you, Murganis and Retr0.) I finally talked some of my real life friends into playing, and together with my newly minted DayZ compatriots, we set out to find strange new worlds. Or at least new gear. Around this time, I purchased a managed server through one of the server hosts here on the forums, and we went about creating a camp and finding ourselves a little stash of vehicles. Nothing too fancy, but enough to make us a force to be reckoned with. We started assigning roles to each player, myself the marksman for the group, Retr0 as my spotter and secondary marksman. Murganis, Ysdrae, and Rajin would take up assault roles, with Murganis as our point man. Rajin carried our medical supplies, and provided relief when one of our own needed it. Salve bounced back and forth between roles, but was mostly our scavenger. We started playing more tactically, stopped killing each other out of sheer stupidity (standing in front of someone who's alt-tabbed, etc.), and really started working well as a group. And then I met Zach. You see, I've always been a fairly helpful kind of guy, and entirely too trusting. So when I was watching a stream, and someone was asking for some very basic help, I offered to provide assistance. I gave him my Skype name, and we talked about what he needed. It basically amounted to a couple of hours walking him through how to fix his DayZ installation, update, and be able to join our server. Then, he needed morphine and a blood bag. Fairly basic stuff, right? During our conversations, I found out Zach was 13, had just started playing the game not long ago, and didn't know much about it. Despite his age, I decided to help him out, because he seemed like a level-headed, mature kid. I talked to some of the group, and we decided to let him tag along on some of our adventures. He didn't play much with us, a couple of hours here and there. Not the most intelligent player, but we chalked that up to being new. We found a couple of behaviors rather odd, however. For instance, we'd all be standing in a group, and Zach would have his shotgun pointed at my head. I assumed (because I was using a rather unique player skin), that he was just looking closely at my character. He never fired a shot, so we didn't think much about it. It was simply an annoyance. We had been having a few issues getting everyone together at the same time due to moves and work schedule changes, but one Saturday, we finally managed to get everyone together. All of us, minus Salve, running around, having fun and killing zombies. Zach somehow ended up dying, we picked up his stuff, and headed to our secondary camp to wait for him. During this time, we had a little campfire meeting regarding some of Zach's odd behavior. Each person in the group expressed their concerns, and for the most part, asked for him to be removed. I, being a staunch 'good guy,' stood bullheaded against the wave of negativity. Zach had expressed interest in being a marksman, which we all had doubts about. Specifically, we doubted he could hit the broad side of a barn. Zach finally arrives after about an hour, and we proceed to administer a marksmanship test of sorts. We had one guy down near a longhouse, the rest of us up on the hill. Rajin stood down there with a flashlight and nothing else, attracting zombies. At a distance of 700 meters, the goal was to hit the zombies. Needless to say, it didn't go well. For about 30 minutes, I explained to him the basics of marksmanship, how to calculate distance using Mil-Dots, and how to account for bullet drop in between. Grand total of two zombie kills for ten shots. We talked to him about it, gave him a M4A3 CCO with a couple of mags of STANAG SD, and asked him to take some time and practice in the armory, at which point we'd try again. If things worked out, we offered to let him join Retr0 and I's little marksman team. We proceeded to our primary camp, where Rajin, Ysdrae, and Murganis all log off. Retr0 and I decide to go searching for some helicopter crashes, thinking everyone else has logged off. We take off in our Hilux, at which point I hear Zach come in over Mumble asking to join us. We flip around, pick up the Ural and Zach, and start to head out. Zach: "I can only stay for one, then I have to go." Me: "Oh, well then I'll just leave you here, Zach. We're going to be out there for a while, and I don't want to have to use a bunch of fuel dropping you off back here when it's time to go." Zach, anxiously: "Oh, um. I'll just stay for more, then." This exchange kind of weirded Retr0 out. I didn't think much of it, personally, but again... I'm too trusting. We make our way down near Lopatino and start following the road towards Stary. We finally spot our first crash in the middle of a field about half-way there. All of us get out, Retr0 and I begin looting. We find a FN FAL and a Bizon SD, and get ready to move them into the truck, when I get shot from somewhere. I turn to see Zach reloading his revolver. "Zach, why'd you shoot me? Were you alt-tabbed?" No response. He starts switching to the M4A3, when Retr0 asks if he should kill him. "No, no. I think it was an accident." Then Zach opens fire, dumping an entire clip of STANAG into Retr0's face. I dodge around the helicopter, pulling out my revolver, and come back around to find Zach lying prone on the ground. I pump two rounds into his head, asking him what the hell he was doing over Mumble the entire time. Not long after, he logs out of Mumble. The bleeding catches up with me, and I end up passing out before I can bandage myself. A few tense minutes pass, but I finally get up and start looting Retr0's body and putting his gear on the truck to take back to him. Right as I'm about to finish up, I take one round to the head from what sounded like a M107, and fall over dead. My heart dropped. The Ural had been our primary gear transport, and was still completely full of weapons and ammunition; Not to mention the gear I had on my body. I was rocking an AS-50, NVGs, all the nice essentials. Retr0 had a M24, Coyote Pack, and much of the same. In one betrayal and a headshot, we went from being almost completely geared to having nothing. It was heartbreaking. We manage to get Murganis back on and down there, hoping to catch the culprit in the act of looting our bodies and truck. The only thing he finds on any of our bodies is my pair of NVGs. Apparently whoever looted didn't look too hard. Needless to say, this was no small consolation considering our predicament. The Ural was gone, and the rest of our gear with it. We logged off for the night after looting some basic provisions for the long run back to our camp, completely dejected. After a few days of looting, we managed to find ourselves back in a rather stable condition. Sometime during this, I manage to get hold of Zach via Skype messaging, trying to find answers as to what happened. What I got was a lot of bull, and very little in the way of real answers until this: At this point, we decided to scour the map to find our Ural. We do manage to find it, sans the AS-50, but everything else is there. It was parked in the forests just north of Novy. I mean, honestly, if you're going to set up a camp somewhere, at least do it somewhere intelligent. In any case, since this event, we've turned into a cut-throat group. We shoot on sight, trust no one other than each other, and are loathe to bring others into our group. We don't do it out of hatred, but out of necessity. We're not trolling, we're surviving. We're bandits now, and I don't see any reason to go back to our old helpful ways. Long story short, long live banditry, and thanks to Rocket for giving us such an awesome sandbox to play in. I've never had such a range of emotions due to a video game, but it's kept me coming back for more, despite several huge set backs.
  20. Having to run everywhere in this game has made me appreciate the in-game vehicles more than any other game. The first time I started an engine in DayZ I felt more excited than the first time I drove a car in real life. Sad as that sounds.
  21. Nice, I went back there a little bit ago and it looks like sweet justice has been served. All the tents were flattened expect three and there was only a working tractor left. All other vehicles were shot to shit or gone. I took the tractor and flattened the last three tents and rode out. :)
  22. So I happen to be up in the far NW area of the map just dickin around exploring, when I hear a tractor coming up the road heading further north. I decided to follow it as I wasn't very far from the edge of the map. Sure enough, I hit the end of the road and turn east and see a giant camp. Probably like 15 tents (which a lot of them seem to have been duped, as a few of them had the same exact items and quantity of each.) There was also a ton of vehicles, like 5 ATVs, a sedan, a few bikes, an UAV, ural, a few others. I decided to raid the tents, which I only grabbed a bunch of STANAG mags from and a guillie because I was pretty geared. I proceeded to use all the STANAG I had to blow up all the vehicles. Then I took the UAV and ran all the tents over with it, then blew that up. I left one ATV for my getaway. As I'm heading back south I stopped on the road to check the map. Suddenly I hear a vehicle approaching from the direction of the camp I just left. It was an off road truck. A chase ensued but I easily escaped as the truck had no chance in the trees against the ATV. I ran out of gas a few minutes later. As I'm running back north a little ways to the nearest gas station(about the time the chaser would have arrived back at the camp to see it in ruin), I get the "No message received for 10 seconds" message which was the server going down. There was no warning of a restart or admin message. I try to log back on and see that the server indeed did go down and was restarting. Server comes back up, I reconnect, get gas, and decide to go back to the camp to see what was up.(yeah, I know) As I approach, I see everything was in tact and was back to the way it was before I destroyed it. I sat there a few seconds and decided, fuck it, I'll go blow it up again. I found out the hard way that ATVs cant destroy tents. As I get off to bandage, I'm sniped, broken leg but still alive. I roll around for a bit before I'm finished off by the sniper. Long story short, there's some douche bags hoarding vehicles and tons of goodies in the location described above. And they were obviously butt hurt that their shit got destroyed so they rolled back the server or something. I don't know if this is possible for an admin to do. According to the sticky it apparently isn't, but I'm not convinced. So I say to you fine people, go rape and pillage these hacker's/douche bag admin's camp. Its easy to get to. Take the furthest west road on the map that goes north to the end of the map, turn east when it ends and you'll see it in the trees.
  23. My game is crashing right after the first loading screen with all the vehicles. At "Receiving mission files page" to be exact. Solution? This happened after I manually tried updating. I even restored the old files, and I'm still crashing.
  24. East grenade spawns in eastern military vehicles in arma2, guess the same thing can happen in day z. Also, congrats on the server hopping. Not a day goes by when a server hopper attacks me from behind, fails and then d/cs when I return fire. Such scum.
