Post apacolyptic greifing simulator for D-bags
amudkipz replied to skyter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you wouldn't murder in real life don't do that here. I hope they remove tents/vehicles/sniper rifles/nvg for 3 days. Snipers might not pump someone full of lead if they can fight back. -
US 261 Tent & Vehicle despawned - Restart possibly required?
Rythlas posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
All three of my tents have despawned and I'm not seeing any vehicles on the map anymore. I have no clue how to get in contact with this servers admin. All it says is hosted by kilo. I read somewhere that a restart will fix this. Help please? -
US 602 (formerly LA 5) - The way DayZ is meant to be played
Disgraced replied to joikd's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Is net stats what we get when we press "I"? Since this is where we can see the server name when connected, this should always be on, shouldn't it? I've started playing on this server, so far, so good.. Found my first helicopter crash this morning, but vehicles are still MIA for me. -
So my brother has a group of friends that play DayZ, but he didn't have the game while I did. I decided to let him use my account to play cause I was busy that week. He ends up meeting with those guys and getting geared the fuck up like a boss. My dilemma is this. We have two gaming PCs, I dont know the specs, but they're perfect for Arma 2, but thats not the point. Thing is, we got Arma 2 CO on our second steam account so we can play together in DayZ. I knew my brother used my Steam for his DayZ profile, so I logged into His steam for my own DayZ. I launch DayZ on the second computer and I end up with his stuff, his location, and everything. What I'm asking is this: Did I just spawn with his stuff in his location from a new save, or am I still using his account no matter what Arma 2 profile or STEAM profile I use? Is it the computer that he played on last? Because I want to start on a clean slate, but it would be cool if I suddenly had his Ghillie, M4, colt, ammo, bandages, alicepacks, vehicles, etc etc, but I dont want to squander it by not knowing if its his or not. I would figure this out WITH him, but he's at work until 11PM easern time. So if I dont get a reply by then, I might end up fixing it with him, just some input would be appreciated.

US 602 (formerly LA 5) - The way DayZ is meant to be played
joikd posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
********************IMPORTANT UPDATE for 7/31/12******************** Well, guys and gals, I have some bad news. I am shutting US 602 down permanently on 7/31/12. I apologize to those of you that have tents setup right now, and also to those of you who have spent time repairing vehicles. There have just been too many problems with HFB (slow updates, screwed up settings, etc.), and this has been causing me much frustration as an admin and a player. I know that you other players have felt this as well. The cheap price that attracted me in the first place is just not worth the frustration. I only get an hour or two each day to play, and I want it to be the best that it can possibly be. Here's the good news: I am in the process of setting up my own server using my own hardware specifically chosen for DayZ, and using a colocation service (same as a dedicated server except it is my hardware that I send in). The server will use an SSD, 3570k CPU, and have 32GB of RAM. ArmA & DayZ will be on a RAMdrive. The server will also be on a dedicated 10mbps connection (not a shared connection like most other servers). Massive overkill for just one one DayZ server (there will not be multiple instances--just one)? Probably. But, at least I, and everyone who plays, will know that the server hardware is not causing any kind of lag/FPS issues. And, it will be nice to be able to update the server to new ArmA & DayZ patches right when they are released instead of waiting for days. Once the server is set up and running, I will make a thread. Feel free to continue playing on US 602 through 7/31 (I will continue updating it to the end), but do not setup any tents since you will just be losing them. Also, if you have any tents already setup, remember to get you stuff out by 7/31 (big-time sorry for your tent loss). joikd Survivors, bandits, loners, & clans--you are all welcome on US 602!!! DayZ is a brutal survival challenge. In the spirit of DayZ, US 602 does everything possible to keep it brutal. So, all of the difficulty settings are set to "off". Have confidence in making US 602 your home server. Pitch your tents & repair your vehicles--US 602 is not going anywhere. Two of us check US 602 on a regular basis (even at work), and give a 5 minute countdown if it needs to be shut down. US 602 will always be updated to the latest DayZ and ArmA patches ASAP along with the in-game host name to let you know it has been updated. Feel free to post any questions, issues, comments, etc. in this thread, or shoot me a PM. Server Name: US 602 Location: Los Angeles, CA Time Zone: GMT-7 Slots: 50 Contact: Myself on here 3rdPersonView = 0; armor = 0; autoAim = 0; autoGuideAT = 0; autoSpot = 0; cameraShake = 1; clockIndicator = 0; deathMessages = 0; enemyTag = 0; friendlyTag = 0; hud = 0; hudGroupInfo = 0; hudPerm = 0; hudWp = 0; hudWpPerm = 0; map = 0; netStats = 1; tracers = 0; ultraAI = 0; unlimitedSaves = 0; vonId = 0; weaponCursor = 0; -
Yeah, people trying to gain an unfair advantage over other players. Cheating / exploiting. Strangely, most of the people who do this sort of thing refer to themselves as 1337 and other such nonsense. Seriously though.... I would like to know if there's a way to turn down the engine noise of vehicles. It seems stupidly loud at times. Wouldn't want it to be silent and obviously any client side alteration wouldn't affect how other people hear it. Not trying to have a stealth bus or anything :)

Dear Rocket: to hell with fun, bring on the hardcore!
Coldkill (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Dear Rocket, First and foremost I just wanted to thank you and your team for this experiment. It is truely one of a kind. I would like to take this time to throw you some suggestions and more importantly my feedback. Let me start off with my feedback. I have been playing DayZ for just a short time but I feel I really grasp the entire model you are shooting for and I happen to absultely LOVE IT! There are pleanty of action oriented survival/zombie apoc games out there but nothing like this hardcore pure survival angle you are taking! I absolutley love how this is extreamly emersive (sandboxy) and you truely feel alone. I love how we the players take full charge of our future and how the game design makes me long for a trustworthy team to play along side me. I am extremely interested in the survival aspect of DayZ instead of the fun, action oriented, arcade style games that are out there now. I would like to see DayZ remain a hardcore survival simulator before anything else, where players have to sit at the edge of their seats the entire time they are playing, trust no one, and need someone. I want this to remain a game where the risk is extreamly high, but the reward is much higher. I want to feel desolated and removed from civilization as if mankind is on the verge of extinction. I want to get angry and have to think like a scientist in order to be successful and say TO HELL WITH FUN! Now, please, let me drop some suggestions..... Trade/Barder system I enjoy how "real" or "legit" this experiment feels. I love how you took a hard core survival concept and implimented it into a Zombie Apocolyps instead of any other end of days senario. The zombies are all we need to bring the "fun" into this "hardcore" title. With that said, I would suggest steering away from a trade system where players trade like in Diablo for example and retain the hardcore system we have now where we have to trust those we are in company of. I think we should keep it simple like it is, yet hardcore where we must drop (or "hand") and item to our friend in exchange for somthing or give them permission (verbally) to go into our backpack and fetch it themselves. Group Play This is survival, not party time. Group play in my opinion is perfect just the way it is for the most part. Some suggestions I would say would be "ok" to impliment to make it a little bit easier to play with friends would be: (of course some of these will have to wait for your stand alone DayZ) -A system where a group of friends can join a server, create a group (party), then create their characters and spawn in the same general location. -Ability so when my friends get on (as long as we are keeping the servers privately owned) they can just click on my name in a friends menu and join the server I am currently in. -I do love how once your character is created, you have to rendezvous with your friends by trying to figure out where they have spawned and use your tools and brane to get to them. Chat I dont think there should be chat at all except for voice chat to players who are close enough to hear you and text chat to players who are close enough where they would be able to hear you. (Just the way it is now is great :)) Tools Ok, you already have all of the hard core environmental/physical tools in place. Temperature/Thirst/Hunger/Blood and you already have how the environment and your actions effect them. We already have many tools for basic survival. Compass/knife/hatchet/matches/map/parts/vehicles/etc. Some other tools that would be great are (unless they're here and I have not found them yet): -Bunker (A way to build a small bunker where you and your company can store food/water/materials and defend it against opposing forces. -Generator (a generator you can have set up so long as you have gas for it to power different tools such as lighting around your bunker that has X amount of slots which you plug power cords into) -High Intensity Lights (requires power cord and Generator) -Power Cords (see above) -Boards (used to block off rear enterances and other enterances into buildings you may want to hunker down in for a while or block windows so people can not snipe you from outside) -Wildlife (more wildlife for hunting purposes) -Katana (because I really want one in this game. Oh yeah, the sword, not the bike.) -Tracking devices (so we can track our teamates on our map when we split up) Ok I am not very creative but I love how this game makes me feel like if I try hard my reward will be amazing! Thanks for reading!! -
Arma2 patch build 94997 now running on some servers
Ander (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Just want to mention, once again. Both client and servers need to run the BE executable to get updated. An automated BEpatch will come in later (according to BIS representatives - but who knows if it'll work rightaway) I will however say that vehicles work much better now with 1.7.2.3 and latest build (less desync, havent had any players teleporting out of cars). Servers that patch will get prioritized helicopter love. ;) -
soooo? chronic and lil chronic, hack much? today a few buddies and i decided to do little hiking through the woods. and came across a camp sight with a ton of vehicles in it.( and yes it was in server us23) as we got to the camp sight we came across a long lost friend of ours, chronic. well needless the problem was handled accordingly and we continued on with our high-jacking of this camps vehicles. but then the funniest thing happened. as we drove away we could not help but notice every time we stopped, no matter how far we got from this camp sight we continued to take fire, we could not get away. i just think its kind of funny. and btw it interests me to know how you managed to keep up and know where we were? im sure its been said before but im positive something funny is going on in that server. well its not the first time we come into contact with you guys and im sure it wont be the last. see you in the woods. sincerely, -RusH-

Post apacolyptic greifing simulator for D-bags
jovial replied to skyter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Its a sandbox game, of course PvP and banditry will be rampant, even when they add decent group content (base building, electricity, stuff to block logins within a radius, maybe more vehicles, etc). You had the right idea at the end of your post though. Thats the way to go about things in a sandbox game. Change the rules yourself. Get a group together, join a clan, get some friends into it. Do things your own way. It can be done, even if its hard, you just have to realize that you can't impose your own mindset and playstyle on the majority of the players out there. Roll with it or leave. -
Ugh. Tips on finding tents / vehicles?
Bubba Jones replied to Zexis's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
For vehicles, hit the NW quadrant of the map. A LOT of people stash their vehicles in that area. The area from Lopatino going north and to the west of the road going up through the pass - that corner of the map. -

Supermarkets is where I've found most of my tents. Vehicles have spawns and there's external maps which have them listed. -
Ugh. Tips on finding tents / vehicles?
jovial replied to Zexis's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Usually, most vehicles have been grabbed by various groups and clans, and will still be stored outside map if you believe the other thread about vehicles outside map boundaries not despawning. Best case scenario they decide to keep it inside the map, and then its still down to luck or their lack of creativity/abundance of stupidity that decides if you'll be able to find them. -
I was wondering if anyone could give me some help with managing the server. Is there anyway to despawn any vehicles that go off the map, or any tents that go are set up off the main map? Also, I'm downloading, for the first time, the scripts.log .5 gb file... From what I gather, I have to look through this by hand to figure out if someone has been running scrips. Can all I do as admin, be to look through scripts.log and try to find something noteworthy and investigate that further? Thanks for the help.

My small group has been raiding towns all day and we've yet to see a single vehicle or tent. We're getting a bit anxious as we want to set up a base and stockpile supplies before our inevitable deaths... Any advice on reliable locations for this stuff? We've been hitting marked locations on the dayz db map but to no avail.
-
Infiltrated their camp up north (~TGTF~ clan) members were killed by us and they immediately restarted the server, restoring back their vehicles and gear...we lost our Ural loaded with days worth of gear because of the forced restart. You lost a fire-fight, no need to cheat. Funny how the rest of your clan came on immediately to move gear and whatnot from the location of your camp. Server US370 is a poorly run server and in my opinion should be disciplined.

Do you ever feel like getting awesome guns is a waste?
insolentfool replied to Shard (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My crew has enough spare weapons to make this a non-issue for us. I'm more concerned about ghillies and keeping our vehicles. I've passed on the L85 and as50's we have in favour of a silenced m4, each of our crew has a job and im the designated zombie killer when we scavenge. -
Aight, myths and shiz aside, I will tell you what I did find. Loot? Minimal, but vehicles can potentially spawn along with low level military. Zeds? A few. Only two things intrigued me. First, there's a big pile of dead bodies swarmed with flies. It's...kinda gross. Secondly, there was at least one zombie I couldn't find. Sounded like it was in the green building, but I couldn't find a way in. So...I dunno.

Or well-decorated storage boxes - make one look like a fridge or a wardrobe. Throw some beans on the kitchen table. Still need the loot spread on the floor, but I agree that having cabinets to go through would make it more interesting. Being a mod doesn't matter. We've already got tents and vehicles that are interactive storage boxes. Just add a few more similar objects in the buildings.

A Question about servers (vehicles and tents)
hazedaze posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
My question is: why sometimes vehicles just vanish after server restart? or tent I just put bloodbags spawn "empty" after restart? I had a vehicle and I made an accident. Suddenly server restarted. now vehicle isnt there, tent is where is supposed to be but its empty. what should I do, change server or just wait for them to load properly with another restart? I forgot the ask my real q: I saw my nick "was killed" as soon as I join to server today. then there was my own body, just where I spawn and I had a broken bone. same thing happened to someone else too. what should I do, respawn? -
I'm having mixed feelings as a potential tester/purchaser of this games. Mollify me?
Disgraced replied to Dr. Cocks's topic in New Player Discussion
Why thank you... And on the lighter side, I do love the game. I get pissed when I die, sure, but very shortly, the glamour of that next life is calling. Every time is a little different. I do fun stuff, sometimes, goofy stuff like run through the high pvp cities just to see how long before I get shot... Mostly I just like to explore the villages and airfields and stuff and see who I run into. Although I never seem to find vehicles :( -
The daily 10am est restart bugged and removed all tents and vehicles, a fresh restart will fix this however i don't know how to contact an administrator of this server. Any help?
-
You know how vehicles get horded now? This would make it SO much worse No

I think you're missing the point of the OP. The salute works most of the time but you have to stand to attention to perform the action, it takes moments to be ready to fire again, often on the person you just saluted to and it looks really dorky. We're survivors, not soldiers. I think that Day Z, although far from a priority at the moment, should have both a wave action, a drop button and a holster weapon toggle. Wave is used to get attention from a distance, to signify your willingness to break cover and talk. To flag down passing vehicles and to signify your need for assistance. Holster is just that, it should take around a second to pull your primary from your pack or your secondary from your holster and cock it, ready to fire. Enough time for uneasy players to deal with them before they have a chance to fire. The drop weapon button is used to signify that you yield to other more hostile players in hold up situations. Drop can also be used in novel ways like dropping smoke grenades on the run to conceal where you are running to and dropping flares to mark your route for other players. It would be interesting to see what happens if you begin tracking stats of Murdered after greeting, murdered while holstered and murdered while unarmed to discern self defense and PvP from cold hearted banditry.

It's a known bug that vehicles are disappearing. Also the physics engine is very VERY buggy (I've run into a teammate and he flew into the wall, dying.) so it's completely possible that you ran into an object (rock, tree, bush, whatever) and it took you out.
