All you need to do to survive the zombies is hide in the woods, the only challenge currently in Dayz is the players. I'm not saying that won't change over time but you should really consider what we would all be doing in a no pvp server. "Ok guys, we've got tons of vehicles, ammo, food and weapons. We're completely safe out here in our tent city... uh... does anyone... know what there is to do?" "Let's start a campfire and tell pvp server stories!"

[Question]Another way to take coord position numbers.

Hi guys, in my server i have added new vehicles in different locations. The problem is the work I have to get the coordinates. I have my character in that position where I enter the vehicle, go to the database, update and achieve coordinated. Is there a simpler way to get / calculate the coordinates of the map? I would also use these to create a "live map" in php or script that shows the amount of online players and their real position, which is updated every 3 minutes. -
Reading the top comment of things discussed in Rockets most most recent stream, I've been thinking a lot of how bases would really work in DayZ Instances: He says these bases would be in another "instance". What exactly does that mean? Does that mean the "entry point" to a base would be somewhere in chernarus that YOU designate? Say, in your camp somewhere? What would these entry points look like? A bunker door? Creating the base: "Another instance" meaning, you find this entry point (or create it, if you're the base creator) and it loads, what exactly? Some kind of, "base editor" program? Or you use a "shovel" or something and flesh out the earth much like Terraria or Minecraft? Surely you'd have a limit on how large your base can be. Instead of having users create their own base layout, at least for now as an introductory system to experiment with, maybe have all bases have the same layout? So you create the base, go in it, it's already made for you, maybe a big room, or 2, and there you have it. All bases would be the same. More efficient that way too. Server Efficiency: So then, where are these "other instances" hosted? The same server? Sounds inefficient depending on how many bases and what's in the base/how many people are on the server. Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely love bases to be in DayZ. However, I'm thinking a feature so expansive would have to wait till DayZ is standalone. Base Raiding: How epic would it be to find, not only someones camp with maybe some vehicles, tents, and then you see a glorious door, or a hatch on the ground. You and your team climb down to find a huge fleshed-out base filled with guns, food, equipment, and of course, the clan's members. How rewarding would it be to get all of that equipment after killing off the clan? More discussion also on reddit. Thought I'd post it here too.

Aye, I've watched a lot of videos going through mechanics and what loot is good, controls etc etc. I thought that watching a group that knows exactly where to go and what to get would be interesting and different. In the 20 mins of the video you can see we pretty much have everything we need now for our journey north. The rough plan after chernogorsk is: - Elekrovodsk loot hotspots - start heading north via the best towns - Stary Sobor and on to the airfields - Where to look for helicopters and camps - Where to look for vehicles and how best to go about repairing them -
i wanted spectate purely for video purpose. I see so much potential in DayZ for online series, and web series and such. But without the tools to do it (private servers with no saving, spectator mode, and much more) we can't do much but gameplay stuff. What if i wanted to do a full-on cinematic video of a fly in to NWA, a loot run, where u run into a bandit and have a faceoff, and then u fly back out. That would make a very awesome video, if it could be filmed from a spectate camera, and all the items and vehicles just spawned in for the purpose of the video. In that sense i am for spectating, and private servers (that dont save characters). But for this purpose, it will not work in DayZ, and they should focus more on protecting script injection in the stand alone instead of reporting mechanics that can be abused.

Thanks to OP for pointing it out. Hope lockers will get what they deserve, a.k.a. their server will get blacklisted : ) Server owner's reaction is just ridiculous. Calling names in the report thread, whining about "ungratefull" kids... Like somebody cares that he wasted his money to farm some gear\vehicles on "his own" server. Lulz. -

Auge please tell us all that you found the camp with a hacked chopper and what about the serverhopping and disconnecting while we´re fight angainst you and your friends.And then tell me, do you have any proof that "the GM guy" and me use/hack any of this stuff i don´t know anything about fucking cheating because i hate cheating and hacking! And the G36-SD´s we found them in Chernogorsk from any fucking hacker who spawned ammoboxes, vehicles and so many shit !!! And why did you hide your name ?? we know the name of you and your friends (XTTX;Busch;Kaguzuchi) -
Whats the point of boxes if you can already store stuff in tents and vehicles. Tents and vehicles are fairly easy to spot if you happen to stumble upon them. Boxes are smaller than tents so for players they are harder to find in forests. This would make it easier for players to have hidden stashes wich of course is more realistic but also affects the gameplay imho negative way so I have to disagree. I love finding vehicles full of stuff and with your idea people wouldn't store stuff in them.

ok well that solves the problem with the one chopper i have found. but what about the possibly endless numbers of illegal spawned vehicles that i didnt find and maybe other players found and now hide those in their camps ? i dont want those on my server! -
Balance changes due for "high-end" items and more

I'll try to keep this post succinct, some of the rare items need to be adjusted or removed as this game works its way toward beta: 1 - Ghillie Suits) There needs to be some downside for this item. The simplest and most agreeable change is that it removes the player's backpack or at least keeps the player's backpack visible. Right now Ghillie suits make it extremely easy for anyone to become almost invisible at 200m+ and Ghillie+Pine Tree = Easy mode concealment. There's plenty of reasons why everyone wouldn't want to wander around in bush-suits in a real zombie apocalypse yet right now these are the single most important item for surviving long-term against other players. While everyone else derps around with white sleeves that stand out from a long-distance, ghillies give an extreme advantage to those camping the treelines. Further changes could include the chance of "overheating" or "heat stroke" if the player runs long distances while wearing the Ghillie (another reflection of reality). Having the ghillie impair movement or vision are also viable options. All of these are far more realistic and sensible for gameplay than the current Ghillie with an invisible backpack and 0 downsides. It makes most observation, scouting, and recon pointless when you can't see any ghillie snipers until they take their first shot and you're already dead - at least give them some downsides to their loadout. 2 - L85A2 AWS) I think this one speaks for itself. Thermal vision destroys everything else that PvP in DayZ stands for. Slow, deliberate movement - concealment - careful positioning - etc. are all realistic and sensible things to do while trying to stay alive before the L85 was introduced. Now if you're up against an L85 user, the best thing you can do is run like a madman to shake up their 3x scope and pray that they can't line up a shot before you get out of range. I've used the L85 myself and everyone else I've played with agrees that it's utterly broken. I can spot any player outdoors up to the draw distance in just a couple seconds of scanning and hunt them down easier than killing most animals in this game. Going up against an L85 user is absolutely no fun and makes even the most stalwart player consider ragequitting. You are left with 2 unhappy options: Staying concealed and waiting for the inevitable burst of fire to kill you or keep moving and draw attention from other hostile players or the L85 user's squadmates. Advanced military hardware should make limited and sensible appearances in DayZ, a thermal scope is an example of something that just doesn't belong. 3 - NVGs) I think most players agree that night-time would be much more fun without the constant threat of NVG users. Night time provides an extremely interesting trade-off in visibility between flashlights, flares, and chemlights - each providing its own advantages and disadvantages. All that goes out the window once NVG's enter the picture. They have a massive edge over any other option and heavily discourage night-time play for those without NVG's. If you are wandering the map using flashlights, flares, or chemlights for visibility you are literally a massive neon sign saying "FREE KILL" for the first NVG user to find you. There's nothing the "regular player" can do to fight back. Flares offer some defense but they also draw zombies, plus any competent shooter will kill you before you even realize that you're being stalked by an NVG user. I think the night-game would improve dramatically if they just removed NVG's from the game, but an acceptable alternative would be to add rare batteries required to give the NVG's power and make the NVG's consume the batteries at a relatively fast rate. It would actually force NVG users to use other methods of illumination besides several hours of perfect visibility at night and even encourage them to put their neck on the line by going into towns/loot spots for batteries at night instead of just stalking treelines and never needing to expose themselves. 4 - M107 & AS-50) Almost every sniper rifle in the game does 8000 damage. The .50 cals do around 38,000 damage and the NATO round for the AS-50 does over 170,000 damage. I think the CZ-550, M14, DMR, M24, and SVD are all in a great place in terms of balance for sniper rifles. They encourage you to go for headshots, and at least give the victim half a chance to take cover when they get shot - encouraging snipers to be more tactical in their attacks. There is also something extremely important in requiring at least 2 shots to down a victim, since it means that non-headshot kills risk exposing your position with each subsequent shot. Shots to the legs/extremities with most snipers only does around 2.5-3k damage, encouraging you to at least aim for vital organs. Now let's look at the .50 cals, they do such obscene damage, one-shot anywhere will drop your opponent. This is HUGE. You have very little risk of exposing your position with just 1-shot, and there's absolutely 0 chance for your opponent to react against being shot at. Even shooting them in stupid places like the arms and legs will instantly kill your opponent. Again, I understand these are nasty weapons, but I think we can live with a game where a .50 shot to the thigh doesn't instantly knock me out and kill me. Keep the high damage of the anti-material round against vehicles but balance the damage of .50 cals so they aren't such massive noobcannons, the AS-50 is arguably the most out of place since it's actually quieter to players than any most of the smaller sniper rifles. If the DayZ team refuses to tone down the damage so only upper torso/headshots are one-hit, other methods should still be considered. Make the .50 cal sniper rifles slow down player movement considerably and give the weapons a more noticeable muzzle flash and smoke from firing the weapon. Consider making these two weapons take up 15 inventory slots or more when stored in a backpack. The presence of crashed helicopters has made these weapons practically standard-issue for all snipers - there needs to be more of a downside to using these weapons. Like the L85 they don't really fit the setting when everyone north of Starry is running around with a small cannon on their backs. Final Note: Pine Trees/Bushes, I just thought I should mention these as something to consider for Arma 3. Right now, with just a couple seconds of adjustment any player can sit several feet within the branches of a pine tree or bush and have nearly perfect visibility. This makes hiding/camoflouge in this game very monotonous when hiding in one of these two common plants is your best bet 98% of the time. Right now I can sit in one of these hiding spots and be almost completely invisible unless someone trips over me and still have an excellent view of my surroundings. For Arma 3, make it so that players can't sit in the middle of trees and bushes - covered by several feet of thick foliage - and still have unhindered visibility. This would go a long way to making camping a more risky affair from the current state where the camper will always remain unseen until he takes a shot. -
1. Yes they will always spawn near you. 2. No you can only store items in tents and vehicles. If you leave it on the ground it will depsawn.

I know that you can store things in tents and vehicles, but I'm new and have yet to find any. I have a barn I'm staying in, and had a couple of questions: 1- will zeds keep spawning around me, no matter how many I kill? 2-Is there anything else I can store my stuff in (other than vehicles/tents)? Like if I take a dead guy's backpack and leave it on the ground can I use it to store stuff?

1. Loot I think the Loot has to decrease rapidly, to many superrare items are to fast to be found, last time i died i search for 3 Hours and had an AS50, Bison, G17, NVG, a fully action Belt and an the 24Slots backpack. 2. ALT+F4 If someone disconnect you can let him stay a while longer in the game, in some PvP Leagues i play Player stand up to 30 seconds after log out or disconnect. 3. Z-Spawn at open field or Woods If someone walks or stand longer than 5 minutes in an 250m square it spawn Z´s in this Area or some wild beast. 4. Houses It is possible to acces the entrance to a building bye an Key, they are to be found on Z´s all over the Map but max 20 Key to normal houses you can hide Loot in it. Without key your only way to open a house is an Satchel or an rocketlauncher, but you Destroy 75% of the Items in it, or you wait hidden and kill the Owner to recive the key. 5. Vehicles There are to much Vehicles in this game, patch some out and bring more Bicycles.

Strange to see you using phrase "not legit" when talking about one of the coolest features of Arma2 engine - the autogenerated unlimited terrain beyond game-designed\pupulated areas. It's legit, even if people hide their vehicles and tent there. It's native arma feature. UPD: I guess I just got your point. You want to know where your tents are safe to place? Sry, haven't tried.

Duped tents do not store stuff, if you legitimately find a tent it might still be one duped by someone else then dropped. Place it somewhere safe, stash a bandage or tin can in it, and wait 2 server restarts to see if it holds items. As for vehicles, they usually work. Sometimes a server restart causes tents etc to appear empty, next restart fixes that more often than not.

How does out of bounds vehicle despawn work?

... what? The vehicles I've hidden out of bounds are one tractor with one gun in it, and one bicycle on a separate server. My truck and my regular camp are hidden in bounds. Please jump to conclusions more. -

hey guys, yesterday evening someone hacked a bunch of vehicles (choppers and more) on the server. i dont know who it was or when exactly it happened. i know want to know, if after a restart, those cheater vehicles are gone ? how can i make sure that they have not been taken and are still on the map ? i mean i dont want to face an abrams tank looting NW airport 0o greetings sudden -
Lee Enfield gobbles up and spits out people from 500 yards all day long. But yeah as others have said, M107 for overwatch and killing hard targets (Vehicles) - also it's not so bad firing it from the hip when needed in a pinch :D

OK guys here you go: As you can see, some hacked in stuff, lots of duped or cheated loot, a dead body of their clan (they said they dont know any base on their server? hahahah) and the servers tag. And this is only 1 of 2 camps, the second one got all the other vehicles from dayz. Later this day we killed their clan - INCLUDING ALCATRAZ - several times in this camp, can upload it too if you wish. Funny thing was, every time we killed them they got there in about 10 minutes - this camp is far up north beyond the printed map border. We shot them from 600m away, all 4 shot back in about 2 seconds. How the hell could they know from where we were shooting (out of the forest)?!? At the end we looted all of their satchels and blew up the base (BIG BOOOOM with >50 satchels :D - see picture below) Now you got your proof, please blacklist their server and ban the whole clan, especially Alcatraz126 and the GM guy.
