Those are not advantages. Number one is not an advantage. This is a first person shooter with zombies. Survivors have an obligation to defend themselves just as much as bandits have an obligation to kill. Failure to do so by either party doesn't provide an advantage to being one or the other. Number two is not an advantage. The survivor failed at surviving and pissed off some zombies. Additionally, when a bandit shoots his gun, for whatever reason, he will also aggro zombies. Survivors in the area will also be looking for this, leaving them free of detection to strike at the bandit. Number three is not an advantage. Survivors need to scout an area before entering. If survivors attempted to do this before running straight into Cherno, they will see their life expectancy go up. There are going to be people that you do not see, bandit snipers being one of them. But, in turn, bandits are not always going to be able to see survivors that are counter-sniping. In regards to your wanted poster idea, how would anybody know that said bandit had killed anyone? Dead men, or women, do not talk. This game cannot get any more balanced then it already is. There is no advantage to being one or the other. We all use the same weapons, can all drive the same vehicles, and can all eat and drink the same food, and use the same bandages. In terms of game design, this game is balanced to perfection. Show me the giant shark with laser beams on its head that swims in the ocean and only bandits can use. Then I will believe you that bandits have an advantage. Until then, the only people that have an advantage are the ones who take the time to ensure they are going to survive. You will find a large majority of the PvP related deaths in this game happen because people forget that the entire core of the game is built around survival.

I believe that if the server admin has the config set to display vehicles on maps, then everyone can see it.

So my vehicles are showing up on my map, I'm playing on a regular server. Can anyone with a map see them? Sort of like how ppl can see the map notes/?

Yesterday.... Day 1, 119 kills, 1 murder (sorry "bub"), zeds chased me into getting lost in the northern wilderness for hours with no map, or compass, eventually starving, dehydrating; after hours of walking I stumble upon 2 vehicles in a small clearing! I gear up with top notch weapons, and eat, but there were no beverages. Driving south in a pickup like a boss... a few kilometers down the rode... game crashes and of course on spwaning I'm on foot again, but I still have the gear I found. I walk for another 5 or 10 minutes and come upon a large guild camp! 1 member was working on a new vehicle, while 2 others milled about. I didn't have a silenced rifle, and it would not have been wise to take on 3 guys either way, so I waited. After only a few minutes all 3 drove off in 3 separate vehicles, and I was left to raid the camp uninhibited! Here I found even more awesome rare gear, but still no beverages, map, or compass (plenty of food though). Another frantic few minutes of checking the area and I quickly became aware that the guild members could return at any moment and beat a hasty retreat out into the wilderness once more. After heading South again I safely situated myself in thick wilderness just outside of a large mid-map town before I logged off to take a break, and hoped to come back to find a drink for my character later. Returning to the game I logged into a different server partially out of fear of retribution from the clan for my brazen thievery, and partially because I found a server to my liking with only 6 other players on it. I spawned at the edge of town and without a fear in the world began circling the town for a proper hole in the zombie pattern where I could safely breach the town perimeter and search for a Pepsi. As I'm stupidly crab walking in a circle around the town in plain sight in a field, I'm sniped dead. The End.

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.3 Rolling Update
[email protected] replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The server i play has a message when i log in saying that it restarts every 8 hours. One question, do server restarts make vehicles/tents disappear? Or did i just get robbed?   -
Me and a friend were playing on UK666 and we came across a camp hoarding 6+ vehicles. We destroyed them and left. The next day we are driving along and get out of our car to raid a heli. As we were in contact with the heli, The server restarted or crashed. Then as we logged back in, someone was taking our car, with multiple people there. Nobody was around before. So upon seeing the person(s) my friend shoots, as he shoots and kills the other player my friend dies. So to my knowledge the admin teleported to our location (Admin Abuse) and killed us. I would deeply appreciate that this server be looked into or taken down.

Nope. Just moved away from the coast and prioritized. Each patch, I spend a few lives learning how zombie aggro works. Once I know that, I prioritize gear. Last patch, morphine injectors had a high priority. I made a number of failed, and finally successful hospital runs. This time, broken bones aren't quite as common, but guns, food and drink are plentiful, so avoiding the need to go into cities and towns climbed higher. I'm working on securing my own vehicles, now. I've started working on helicopter crashes in the northern fields, but I've got good guns, so a vehicle and tents are priority. And a place to hide them... Place or places.

Dear lord, you must not be paying attention... As I previously mentioned there must be a hacker on the server ~50 servers actually have helicopters. Servers with helicopters have had them spawned in by hackers, ADMINS CANNOT SPAWN ITEMS OR VEHICLES.

LU183 - Admin Camp being raided? No Problem - SERVER SHUTDOWN
Richizu posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hey guys, Here is a story about what happened on the server LU183 After around 30mins of running around having a good time, we stumbled across what looked like a camp. Overjoyed as we were, we promptly started looting the tents/vehicles that had been setup there. After 10 mins of sitting there we heard the rumble of a nearby truck which was speeding towards the camp. My buddy was in an awful position and got taken out with ease, this however was not the issue. He obviously realized that the camp was being raided (as his truck came under fire) he shut down the server to preserve what was left of his precious loot. I have been refreshing the server for a good 30mins at this point, so i doubt it will be up again until his buddies are ready to log on and move the camp to another location without any threat. Which in my opinion is complete BS. I'll state that by this time there were only 4 people on the server, 3 of whom were in our group. Which leads me to believe that the other person on the server was in fact the server admin. I'll end this thread by saying that I along with a few buddies currently own and run a successful server and have experienced the destruction of our own camp, which of course is part of the game. We could have easily shut the server down, we were outplayed and they deserved what loot they found. The fact that he SHUT DOWN the server to prevent this from happening to him, is surely admin abuse. I personally believe that ANY form of admin abuse should be dealt with accordingly. Thank you for taking the time to read this. -
A soon to be newbie craving some tips before he plays.
Tatakt replied to Simu's topic in New Player Discussion
Barns, look for barns for weapons. try go north when you got the essentials to hit up the wilderness Matches - hatchet - hunting knife - water bottle. hit up every deer stand you find, look for heli crashes in open fields. Vehicles are rare, and when they spawn they most likely are damaged and needs repair, parts for vehicles are in factory categorized buildings. -
Has rocket given up on DayZ?
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What is this noise? Rocket, Gave up on DayZ? Update like, three days ago. Talks of 1.7.2.4 soon. Choppers coming back potentially, Vehicles desyncing problems fixed. Beartraps added... talk of underground bunkers, generators. Fixed Duping problem... Fixing Alt-F4 problem in the works. Has he quit...? Where do you get this idea? -
Perhaps I was too harsh on Rocket/Devs but this game will not survive if hacking isn't reduced to a trickle. Our server was barely 2-3 days old before it was nuked. At this point, there's no point for us to acquire vehicles, hoard gear, and set up player outposts. I think ultimately this game needs to go the MMO route with centralized servers. Granted, games like MW3, BF3, and regular first person shooters have a ton of cheaters. That said, they're also non-persistent games where items do not carry on in servers. Persistence = Invested Players = More to lose.

To Admins/Clans who cant deal with getting their camps raided
Donkamints replied to Donkamints's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People we need to ban together and stop abuse like this. Please post any reports of hacking or abuse and note what server it was on. We have to do our part. Let me clarify, I am not saying ALL admins are abusing their powers. That is simply not true at all. I have played on many very good servers where I never thought for a second anything was going on. The vast majority of server owners are doing so legitimately, please remember that these people are using small donations and in most cases money on from their own pockets to keep the server running. We do appreciate it and I want to personally thank you guys for hosting. Just report any suspicious activity on the forums and hopefully we can sort it out that way. Its just bitchmode to abuse your server admin power and I KNOW that there are clans/admins doing just that. The specific clan/server I am speaking about even was using other exploits to ensure the safety of their vehicles. Duping Tents to use as physical barriers...... Woops the cat might be out of the bag now! -
Nothing in this paragraph is important, but I feel the need to fill up the post with some background information. A buddy and I met up outside of Cherno and in the process found a car. This is the first time either of us have found a vehicle anywhere near working condition, and with it being night, and a low pop server, we decide to head into Cherno and find the parts we need. We arrive back at the car 45 minutes later, and to our surprise it's not missing. We pop the tires on, fill up the tank, and drive off into the night. Half a tank of gas later, and we're in a part of the map we've never been to before. It's like the first time ever logging in, except we have gear and already know the controls. Great fun! Well, the night comes to a close and we find a secluded spot to stash our cool new find, save it, and log out. Today I log in just for a moment to see if it's still there [i really didn't expect it to be]. Well, it's still there, but it's missing a wheel. Dude, where's my wheel? Is this normal behavior for vehicles? To not be in the same state you left them? I'm sure there's been a server reboot between now and then, but I would think if the car is even there at all it should be the same.

Hi there, Was hoping someone could clarify something for me. Does a server updgrading to Beta patch 1.62 and above lose all vehicle locations? The reason I am asking as there was some fishy activity regarding server restarts shortly after I raided a base and took some vehicles. The server restarted several times about 10 minutes after they were taken. Thankfully I had already saved the one I had taken at the my stash point. However, I returned and took a second vehicle, which I then used to find a third in a completely different part of the map. My team-mates and I used these to drive around looking for choppers (i'm not a huge fan of vehicle hoarders, I say use em or lose em!!). Whilst parking up vehicle 2 and 3 for the night, the server went down (again) for quite some time. When it came back up it was using the new beta patch 1.62. However, upon spawning both vehicle 2 and 3 were gone. It just seemed terribly fishy to me. Does any know if upgrading wipes this data? There are allegations before against this server about them intentially restarting in order to get gear/vehicles back. Thanks in advance. TL:DR - Does 1.62 wipe vehicle data?

I have been playing dayz for about 3 months now, during that time I have indured hundreds of bugs, some, like weapon loss buggy tents just like every player. And just like every player I have encountered others who seek to brutaly murder and loot every person they see. I think it would be fair to say that my first two months were riddled with bad luck and misfortunate events (none of which have taken away from the insane amount of fun i've been having). This story however, is not a platform from which I intend to moan and whine so without further adooooo TO THE GOOD STUFF! Recently two of my friends have started playing the game and for the last month we have mixed banditry and survival with a decent amount of sucess. All of us quickly became very bored of being nice guys and it didnt take long for us to realise that most of the time no matter how much fun we had killing noobs running through with cherno with flares, we would venture north in search of decent weaponry we would slowly be picked off by clans with superior weaponry and vehicles. Vehicles being something we reguarded to be something similar to myths, hidden far away in the northern reaches. Now in the past few weeks our luck has changed dramatically. Lucky event 1: I come back from a weekend at my girlfriend and im told that at the weekend my friends had found an m24 and had proceded to the hills above electro to do some murdering. The morning after a night of this they sign on and immediately here the noise of some very, very big guns next to them, they look slightly to their flank and see 3 clan members all in guillie suits kitted with AS50's, range finders, nvgs, the works. Unaware of their precence my friends sneak up behind them and dispatch them quickly taking their gear and running as far north as they can and hiding the spoils of war in tents. Lucky event 2: Several days later we are all playing together and our regular server is down so we go on another, within 5 minutes of logging in we find a red UAZ parked at a petrol station, inside of it were several fuel tanks and a L85 with thermal sighting, we rush up north to our previous camp location to move everything to the regular server which is working again. I log in first and finish loading right behind our tent which some unlucky person has just found and began looting, I kill him and find a DMR and more nvg's. After the camp is comprimised we decide to stay on the previous server with the car so we move everything over and get moving, on our way to set up a new camp we decide to check some vehicle spawns where we find an ATV and a dirt bike all of which are now at the new camp along with a huge amount of weaponry. Lucky event 3: Neither of my friends could come on today so i go on alone to check on camp. I sign in to a message saying im dead, at this point i felt that the gods of dayz had finally decided to balance recent events. In a rage I went off not bothering to respawn. I went back on tonight, where i spawned at three valleys, but with all of my gear. Astounded i start to head north immediately to get back to camp, the server is lagging very bad so i sign into a new one. I run up an embankment and ther smack bang in the middle of a field is a tractor. I decide to take it to the factory south of polana as it is in desperate need of a few repairs, upon arrival at the factory something felt strange, on my approach i had spotted two offroad pickups' and a UAZ leaving the area, the whole place was barbed and sandbagged to the breeches, luckily i had a toolbox so was able to make my way in. I quickly found the parts i needed noticing that there were 3 tents spread around the factory. I got back to the tractor repaired it and was about to head off when i noticed i needed food, of which i had seen in the factory i headed back in and decided to check the tents (i assumed a clan had been farming parts with them) as i looked inside i just about fell in my chair, as they contained some of the best weapons in the game the full loot list is as follows: 2x saw's, 2x AS50's, 3x MP5SD's, 2x M4ACOG's 1x M14 2x tents many more and assorted ammo.I quickly moved everything into the tractor and headed north where i set up a new camp, hopefully waiting for me to salivate over again tomorrow. Am I the luckiest player in the world? Any other lucky stories?

DayZ - Nature in Full Effect for the Standalone Game
Squeezit replied to TheReesesMan's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It would be cool to see someone stock pile all kinds of vehicles/ammo/guns and everything, just to see it all get blown away by a tornado -
Basically have jerry cans and water bottles fill up in partitions. ie the both fill up in sections. This would: For Jerry Cans. Enable the siphoning of fuel from vehicles, either from your own to transfer to others or for security/sabotage. Or from wrote-off vehicles along the same lines of suggestions for stripping car wrecks for parts. For Water Bottles. Enables Gulps, so that water bottles could be shared (in what survival scenario do you see peeps downing entire bottles of water), as well as enabling them to be filled by rain, over time, by partition. Yea or Meh?

Really nice work....are the wireframes the actual finished resolution? If so all bump and texture work really nice too. You should do it full time. Do you do vehicles? EDIT: Duh...you do do it full time. -
How is it unreasonable to record activity when you find something suspicious? Have you seen how many posts of hackers there are on the forums? You find a camp with several vehicles in such an open place as Klem, do you automatically assume that there's nobody around there or that the people around there are playing fair? If you've had any amount of time playing this game you'd know that combat logging and hacking is rampant. Why would you not turn on fraps when approaching a number of vehicles parked in the open?
-
:S Dunno about that, theres already enough discussions from peeps wanting to shoot from vehicles. Can you imagine the first person glares that would occur on that train, when a PvP chasing scenario takes a route via the railway? Just feels out of place that in an apocalyptic world, theres still a 24/7 free railway service? Edit: There isnt even one now!! +1 for groups taking control of trains/railway lines.

To Admins/Clans who cant deal with getting their camps raided
Disgraced replied to Donkamints's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In a way, I like this. It's a sign of the evolution of the mod. Almost an economy of sorts? I've been doing the same thing. I have good weapons, but while running throu the northern wilderness, its far easier to survive off of others conglomerated goods than to go into towns to take stuff. Finding tents fairly often, looking for vehicles. -
To Admins/Clans who cant deal with getting their camps raided
Donkamints posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Here is to all you clans/admins who think they are safe in their camps and "hiding places" You must understand people like us, and there are alot of them out there. Thrive on finding base camps and clan HQs. We are going to take all of your stuff, including vehicles. Iam sorry that is just a part of the game. I cant count how many times we have completely wiped out a camp stolen everything and what a coincidence the server is no longer even listed and is down for days at a time. Iam not going to mention any specific servers this time to try and protect their privacy but heres what will happen if you steal something from the Admins Clan. They will frantically reset the server a few times in a row. They will turn it from 10am to 9pm to make the server dark on your and to limit overall server population so that they will have a better chance of finding their lost vehicles. Now I have started to notice you admins taking the server down for extended periods of time. SO all of a sudden a constant server that has been consistent for days at a time is all of a sudden offline and not even found in the server list. I just wish admins didn't have the power to take down their servers when they wanted to try and roll back their vehicles to their last save location. Yes yes its their server they pay for it, So i guess that allows them to use bitch tactics to get their stuff back. Most of the time we just blow them up and drive them into cherno and leave them there so that Others may try and repair them. Other times we put them to use (your Blue Ural and 2 White trucks) for example. People taking other player's stuff is going to happen. If you cannot deal with it I suggest you choose another game that is more suited for babies and children. To all the admins who practice this behavior, we are coming for you next. To all those Admins who ACTUALLY play legit, I salute you. ALot of people dont realize it costs like 100 a month to run and operate these servers that most of us dont stop to think someone is paying for that. PS If the server doesn't come back up ill post what server and clan this was so that the Dayz community can be sure to avoid that server, if they want a clean game experience. Thanks again to the Admins who are not exploiting, you are awesome and I enjoy playing on your servers. -
How does out of bounds vehicle despawn work?
Maderas replied to Maderas's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Because I wanted to test if the despawn for out of bounds vehicles is working properly. Did you read anything in the first post? They despawn if unused for 7 days no matter where they are. If they're out of bounds, they're supposed to despawn after 6 hours. It isn't working, though. Yes, you can see the edge of the map marked with a big black line when you get close and no grass or trees grow beyond that point. It will be obvious that it's out of bounds when you see it.
