    Tips for finding/repairing vehicles?

Yeah been playing for about 3 weeks now. I've seen others in vehicles but never had one myself. Just keep looking! Look at the map and start thinking of places you would hide out and go search it out! Also you don't need a vehicle to get to NWAF just run. The chances of you getting shot on the way up there are very slim. Just stay in the treeline.
  2. Thank god the community isn't full of people like you or we'd end up shooting lollipop launchers on pink dinosaurs. Yeah actually what I meant is that it would take several years for the weather to destroy all the vehicles the way it did in DayZ and if the events of DayZ are indeed several years after the initial infection then the base would actually be empty.
  3. Interesting. On NZ 23 I too saw this announcement. The location was precisely 58 132 as well, and it was ran by a player named "Sickness". At this location, there are two rows of non-Day Z vehicles, a pile of coyote backpacks, a row of medical and weapon boxes, and inside the hanger there are half a dozen armed NPCs who were not attacking on sight. The loot hand out was probably legit, but the entire process is the result of hacking (including the server message). Since the similarities are too great, and I don't think these two occurrences were hosted by the same person, my guess is that this is a new script some hacker has made. It is in a sense similar to ThunderDome - instantly creating a lot of objects at a specific location, then displaying server-wide messages. The only difference is that players weren't teleported there. EDIT: Now that I see the original poster's name, I realise how foolish my earlier statement was. I guess Mr Sickness is just advertising for his new script now. I hope you enjoyed your Lock earlier.

    Take out .50 cals

You failed to take into account storage space and man power and size. Military Vehicles are designed to withstand weather far more than your garden variety Chevy Blazer. There are 4 companies in my building for each of those companies the MTOE(Modified Table of Organization and Equipment) is around 200 soldiers. Which is 800 primary weapons, that doesn't count the side arms, grenades, fix gun emplacements. My company has about 3 50.cal fix gun emplacements. Even if looters take more than what they need and loot my entire building. There are 4 more building right next to it at least carrying the same thing probably more depending on that companies MTOE. Again back to what the op is saying it doesnt matter if looters take more than they need they still need people to move it even still there will still be a ton of stuff still there. You don't loot a military base in a couple hours impossible unless you have a Army. The OP is trying to establish that it isn't realistic that there are so many 50.cals running around when in fact it is and probably less than what it would be really. TL&DR Realistic argument doesn't work with DayZ. It is an interpretation of what Rocket believes a Zombie apocalypse would be. Realistic comes into play with the fact that you have some realistic gameplay aspects, but DayZ is not an attempt to be the most realistic game ever created.
  5. Opps embarrasing I thought our scripts.log etc was all missing but I was just in the wrong folder *face palm* Thanks for the support ;) Yeah we are working hard to make this server a fun place for regulars (painted a target on myself there huh...) and seeing all our regulars griefed in one day is pathetic. Ok Hopefully be back in an hour or two! Loosing the vehicles will suck but the stuff can easily be replaced =p
  6. Yup. While we don't know when the events of DayZ take place, we do know that Zombies don't eat cars for lunch. Which is longer? For looters to empty entirely an army base of its weapons or for the weather to completely destroy 90 % of the vehicles in a whole region? (You also didn't take in account in your post that looters don't only take what they NEED.)

    Take out .50 cals

Wrong! No way they would be stripped within a matter of hours there is to much stuff in a military facility. Seeing as how most servers are only 50 people they couldn't even strip one company's worth of stuff from a military facility in a few hours unless they had a Ural. Even then they would have more than they need. 50 people don't strip a military facility in a few hours lmao. Care to try again? I am in the Army, 50 people would have more than what they needed just from my companies arms room seeing as how it is stocked for around 200 people. This is why this kind of logic and post fails because the people posting it seem to have no idea how much stuff a military base has. Its easy just google the population of one Military base (probably going to be hard to find exact numbers but you should be able to get a estimate.) That is at least 1 gun per soldier not counting side arms, fixed gun emplacements, tanks, grenades, your 50.cals, your military vehicles etc. If anything DayZ has less than what it would REALLY be.
  8. helicopters don't fit in this game at all anyway. the only thing people use them for are looking for tent cities and vehicles on the map. yea if a zombie apocalypse happened and i had a fully functional chopper i would circle around a small area looking for tents and vehicles to rob instead of escaping, SMH.
  9. At some point the there was a de-sync. That or the chopper was initially spawned by a hacker, then damaged. Hacker-spawned vehicles disappear upon server restart.
  10. Yes. Hackers can also teleport vehicles. Further, since vehicles spawned via script will disappear after server restart, hackers actually have to find and steal legit vehicles. Not sure why people are pointing fingers at admins. These things are commonly done by hackers on a daily basis.

Are there vehicle location hacks? or admin abuse here?

Id say that admins probably can see what happens to vehicles. The other night I logged into a server with about 3 players on. Was running through the forest at night and saw a load of chemlights on the floor around a few vehicles. There was a player doing something around them so I shot him...about 20 seconds later I was kicked and couldn't get back in without getting kicked again. I logged back in to the server the next morning and one of the admins was online (said admin in the brackets next to his name on the setup screen). No1 was at the camp so I stole a few items from the vehicles and then started shooting one (for kicking me the night before) of the urals. After about 5 shots it disappeared and I could hear it driving off in in the distance!! Gutted I didn't have a grenade to blow them up in 1 shot!!!

    Do Helis have radar?

Even with graphics up, it's very easy to spot someone, if you have NVGs. They probably initially spotted the zombies. When you travel in vehicles/aircraft zombies don't spawn, so if you spot zombies, you know someone else is on foot in the area. One of my friends tried to parachute out of my chopper, the chute bugged and he fell to his death. Although he jumped from a fast moving chopper and crash dead into a forrest, it took me less than 30 seconds to find his corpse, hovering over the forrest. One the other hand, we also spotted a car with headlights on, we thought it was easy pickings, but the passangers exited the car with the engine running and the headlights up and the lights completely drowned out our NVGs. I don't know if road flares would have similar effect, but if they already have a bead on you, maybe it's worth a try.
  13. Looking to add a few more people to our group. We do NOT shoot on sight unless you have something we need ( mainly vehicles ) or you don't respond to voice communication. or aim a gun at us of course. Currently we have about 3 active every night with a few more friends that pop in and out here and there. Jake: I am pretty much the loot runner ( any supplies we need I risk my life to get ) Noel: A good friend off the forums who has been with us for a few weeks is our driver ( we normally have a vehicle every night ) Stick : He is our sniper/Overwatch as I am running through town/ Goes with me sometimes depending on the situation and severity Tubs : secondary sniper from different spot on map ( Does not like looting ) These are our mains and the others just kinda tag along as we are doing whatever. We are looking only for mature players as we are all 23+...I cant stand squeaky little kids screaming in my ear. So if interested please include Playstyle,Age,Location (we are all Eastcoast) what you can bring to the table ect..Mic is a must as communication is key for teamwork. We will have a dedicated server soon and don't expect us to just take you to our camp the first day we meet you but you will have access to our weapons and gear in our vehicle when we pick you up ( if you need any ) Either PM me or respond here. Thanks!

    Are tents safe?

I've had tents just disappear on me twice now on two separate servers, all tents and vehicles i knew about in the area where also gone, it was possibly map wide. And no, its been two days now, many restarts, and no tents

US 362 Admin and AGW Clan Abuse

Posts this, locks for four hours to grab vehicles. Waiting for it.....
  16. Can confirm. A member of our group got ported, so we parked out vehicles and logged to the lobby. Could see loads of people dropping.
  17. Vehicles are lovely, but they attract hackers. FN FAL is a wonderful gun for both PVP and PVE. NVG's are nice, but just don't play on night servers. Ghillie suits are rare, but very well worth it. I have a few stories myself of people actually getting stuck on my prone body as they run past. To put it simply: The more you play, the more you'll find this gear. You may not find it alone, however. Perhaps you should try joining a somewhat serious group of players.
  18. CreateNPlay (DayZ)

    This game hates me. [Rant]

Vehicles are overrated. FN FAL is worse than a Crossbow in practicality. Ghillies again, aren't all that. NVG's? Don't play at night.
  19. Only had some issues with tents after updates, lost a good amount of stuff to that... But, don't cry over alpha sicknesses. It's safer to store in tents than in vehicles.
  20. the bugs in the game are obvious areas for improvement so I'll leave those out of this and just list things I'd like to see improved overall, or added. More Fluid Zombie Animations. Varied Zombie AI and Defensive Levels. (Zombies that are smarter than others, and Zombies that are harder to kill than others.) Headshot only Zombie Kills (other shots still injure and cripple them) Fully Explorable Buildings (Chernarus) More Maps Less available military weapons. (It's too easy to get great gear currently) Higher variation in loot tables. (there's a reason everyone camps the 4-5 locations all the good gear can be found) Proper player grouping options (ArmA 2 Limitation?) Clan system Buildable Hardpoint Structures (deployed, mannable gun emplacements) and Forts. Vehicle Camoflage More clothing options Harder to attain vehicles more vehicle types (including extremely rare armored vehicles) Sturdier, yet extremely rare and very hard to repair Heli's Also more types of helis, (no lock-on type weapons - who else would like to have the agile Little Bird, or the big cargo Chinook to tool around in?) Randomized Spawn locations based on vehicle class. More storage options (ammo crates for starters) More personal carrying options (backpack + vest + cargo pants - carryable Duffle bag in place of primary weapon / Makes you slower but more equipped - great for squad roles "medic, gunner, marksman" cargo options help define classes.) No fixed classes - roles should be decided by players not mechanics non-infected (hireable? to man fort defenses during off-hours) NPC's More Melee weapons Faster swimming and boats Spawn Location Choices (seriously, I start with nothing, what could it hurt if I get to pick which spot on the beach I spawn in?) Scripted NPC Heli/Jet/Cargo Plane pathing to attack and loot. No more random spawn crashed choppers Scripted Military and Civilian NPC Convoys to attack and loot Scripted random Supply Drops from the Heli/Cargo planes (do I shoot it down, or try to follow it around for a while?) Expanded world to include the "dead" space beyond the map borders (seriously, there's like 400 square km of usable, unused space around the primary map) Functional (rare) parachutes Farther viewable range. It constantly being foggy at 700m gets old. Occationally you should be able to see for several KM if you have the computer to handle it. If not, then why put the 50 cal's in the game? Generators and power-grid availability with fuel costs. no RPG Style player skills or perks (abilities should be based on player intelligence, not a discrete set of in-game skills) I think that about covers it for me..... for now.

    Hacker on US 101

Last night, someone broke into our camp and stole all (4 vehicles and 4 tents with weapons and supllies). That we were on his side, the only way someone has been there with our stuff was for a kind of teleportation. He left only a bicycle U.S. 101 Dayz Mod is lost because of hackers. Follow the screenshots: Before: (03 August) After (04 august):
  22. Weapons still saves, camo and vehicles dont. The only weapons you can spawn in DayZ, are those that are still included in the classnames, most of them saves. Such as AS50 tws, m4a3 holo + sd + grenade launcher etc.

    Do Helis have radar?

They do not have radar, even if they did, "people" dont show on radar, only aircraft, vehicles and tents. With graphics on very low, its very easy to see into forest and bushes since barely any leafs show, they probably just spotted you.
  24. Our server is being relentlessly hacked nightly. This has made the game unplayable for "serious" players. I realize that the engine has certain security limitations. Is there any timeline on when we can expect to see the beginnings of a playable standalone, where these cocksucking whoresons can be somewhat controlled or contained? I absolutely LOVE this mod. With all of the alpha glitches, etc... I still love it. But the stress of being killed nightly by invisi-players with speed hacks, ported into "mazes", having all of our vehicles disappear has tipped the fun to frustration ratio far out of whack. I am down with losing gear, and having to start over. Thats the nature of the beast. I dont mind "losing" to someone better, or luckier than I am. But the current state of affairs is to shitty to be endured. Cant wait for you guys to have something in place to counter these bastards. I have never been into pwding server, but am starting to believe that servers should be accessible by application only. It wont cure the problem, but it could be more of a deterrent.... Since there are NO deterrents existing currently.
  25. After discussing a lot here: http://dayzmod.com/f...t/page__st__140 I thought about making a more in depth poll... Mainly for when the game goes standalone and we all might have a single set of rules, but it's cool to know what people think right now. Some pros and cons gathered from previous discussions: (Probabliy biased due to my view on these topics, but I'll try to add stuff you people post here) Third Person PRO: Some people get massive headaches from unsing 1st person for a prolonged time. (Disabling headbob helps, but it seems it's still an issue) The game is somewhat clunky in first person The engine doesn't allows you to do stuff like raising your head to see over tall grass or over cover CON: Gives the unfair advantage of seeing over cover and corners without putting yourself at risk Gives the unfair advantage of seeing your whole surroundings while crawling on tall grass or on the top of buildings It's very unrealistic overall NameTags PRO: Helps with friend identification CON: Gives you the position of people you aren't actually seeing, sometimes through stuff and from very far away. Exploitable by sweeping your mouse arround to find people. Partially nullifies the effect camos, shadows and bushes have on the game Gives you the distance of a target, rendering rangefinders completely useless. If you don't think this data is that much valuable, try to snipe a target that is more than ~400 meters away with incorect zeroing on the editor (Some weapons like the DMR have no zeroing, so you have to rely on markers in the scope). Yes, this game has bullet drop. It's very unrealistic overall Crosshairs PRO: Some weapons have bad iron sights (Maybe drop those weapons then?) ??? (Being able to shoot from the already highly exploitable 3rd person view?) CON: Too accurate for long ranges (I don't really know because I don't use them) It's very unrealistic overall Maps showing player position PRO: ??? (GPS are too rare?) CON: Makes the GPS almost useless (Aside from being a cool minimap) Makes the compass 99% useless Makes navigating through Chernarus a trivial experience. Otherwise you would have to do stuff like looking at road signs, finding north through the "shadows + clock method" or through Stars (Really fun and immersive) Works like somewhat of a radar, showing zombies, players and vehicles Can be used to estimate the distance between you and your target (each small square on the map = 100m²) It's very unrealistic overall Waypoints PRO: They should be avaliable if you have a GPS (Could be just an arrow on the gps screen instead of a magical floating hud icon tho) CON: They can be used to find your position on servers wich do not allow you to view your position with a map, through trial and error Makes navigating through chernarus even more trivial It's very unrealistic overall Death messages PRO: Don't matter much since you can see the ammount of murders in the debug monitor. (Could be solved by delaying how fast this number changes or removing it altogheter) CON: Takes away the tension that is not knowing if a target is dead Makes the "Study body" feature useless in some cases It's very unrealistic overall (I know, but I can't help it) I think that this is all for now, I will edit it if people come up with more pros and cons that makes sense
