UAZ transformed into Bus on server restart
otsit replied to Haze91's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yep, Hive problem. Vehicles do it Transformer Style, they get reverted to kaputt after they were repaired, positions and inventory wont save, and some servers (like mine) dont spawn any vehicles at all. I guess its save to say its bugged atm. Hope the DayZ Team is working on this even though Rocket is at Cologne this week. This and the lack of feedback from the devs is very frustrating. -
Server: US 1479 Time: ~10:30 or 11 PM PST, August 9, 2012 What happened: The server was filled with vehicles in amounts unnatural to the spawn algorithms of the game, and what's more, we saw them spawning before our very eyes. A couple players in particularly were teleporting around the map and killing players for their high end gear, and these were the same players who we saw spawning and driving the vehicles on the server, which included two Urals, a bus, and 2 helicopters, though we found a vehicle/player graveyard where they had been spawning vehicles near Kamenka. At this site there were multiple helicopters, several cars, and a ton of dead bodies, which included much of the loot from recently killed players, including my friend who had been killed by a group of teleporters for his weapon in the middle of the woods, a few kilometers north of where I witnessed the same players moments later crashing helicopters into Elektro. The two player names I was able to get who I witnessed hacking were "Cookiez" and "Scotty G". Hopefully that helps.

It seems to happen that when I find Mountain Dew if I keep it on me I get very bad luck ( Die In about an hour from getting it ) But when I drink it my luck seems to be higher for me I normally find better loot from spawns, win in gun fights, survive by snipers and have better luck at finding vehicles and tents. Does anyone else have an opinion on if it's cursed or not? ( Kind of a pointless thread but I wanted to see what people would say )
-
I also have some changes I would love to see added 1) Remove the fuel from fucking propane tanks and move filling locations to actual gas stations (basically ~3 less fueling locations) 2) Jet fuel for helicopters... cmon Bi, as a war simulator producing company I think we are to expect you to simulate the proper fuel allocated to different types of vehicles 3) Jet fuel to ONLY spawn at the 3 airstrips/fields. This would add A LOT more traffic to those areas (especially top right airstrip) 4) Introduce a pump system, I found a hacked crate couple of days ago and managed to jack a... what the fuck was it called.... portable motor or something, I did some poking around and rocket said he's looking for a use to this item; WELL HERE YOU GO! If a player brings that with them and park the vehicle/heli in a specific radius it would be auto-filled within a short period of time (to combat the log re-fueling process with jerry cans)
-
Simple premise: What if there weren't any infinite fuel sources, and you had to scavenge for jerry cans in order to refill the tank on your vehicle? Adjustments may need to be made, such as the rate and location that jerry cans spawn at, or maybe even the rate at which vehicles actually use fuel. (the jerry cans would probably disappear on use) What benefits and drawbacks would this have, and what other adjustments might have to be made to make this work well?

vehicle disapearing after server restart
icomrade replied to Northling's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
All spawned in vehicles (not in the DB) disappear after server restarts. This is because vehicles not in the database cannot be manually saved to the database by a player. -
Yes. 1,000 times more creative scouring for camps for vehicles and loot, avoiding multiple pointless attempts on my life, all while looking for random friendlies (rather than finding them on the Forum/TS3/Mumble etc) for a spur of the moment survival team-up. I also enjoy supporting new spawns when the conditions present themselves. Killing Zombies isn't a big challenge, but it is proof I haven't spent ALL of my time in the woods. There's at LEAST 1,000 PvP virtual soldier boys for each lone wolf like me I imagine. Medics, Traders, Armed Robbers, Mercenaries, and Delivery People exhibit more imagination then the hormonal alpha male meathead response of, "have gun must KILL KILL KILL". I really don't care how far you can shoot me from. PvP belongs in this game but for me, it's a very small aspect. This game is evolving so much, I'm just curious how many Beta patches this character will last for, lol. And yes, hopefully the standalone will facilitate more play styles in a way that is more apparent and more easily accessible for the masses.

A large amount of hacked gear on guys from US1664 with video
arma2eraseditself replied to YeeDeed's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yes if a moderator/admin goes through his server logs he can see where 'Script Kiddies' have used scripts to create items, weapons, vehicles, etc. MOST of the time. Scripting is the retard version of hacking. They dont build their own hacks they use easily made easily detected hacks. 'Hackers' are more intelligent and use thier own knowledge to manipulate the game and is VERY difficult to detect. HOWEVER you missed something I said. If you pick up a hacked weapon/item/vehicle you WILL NOT BE BANNED. Because the way the loot system works and you could pick it up without realizing it is hacked in. (I actually picked up a G36 Mag when I was new). Yes they can tell the contents of your inventory? (I was called out on mag) or just when you looted it? idk which but they can see. And yes when a player scripts in gear they can see who did it. Only problem right now is you need absolute proof to ban and its very difficult to get (IE on servers w no tags) Again this is how hackers work. 1 hacking. The rest just surfing of his hacks. Could you please clarify? There is a server side BEC and a client side BEC. However (I suspect due to BIS very generous use of their servers, time, bandwidth, and all Rocket and his mod) this game is not allowed to affect BIS's clients or game. Now I bet what happened is some douche bag server moderators decided to start banning people w their EPEEN BANHAMMERS (legitimately for hackers and illegitimately for players who Merc'd them and their gear). I suspect this caused a massive uproar to BIS from players who recieved a global ban who bitched and whined they didnt do anything wrong and BIS came back and said NO MORE BANNING. So Rocket was stuck in the difficult position of trying to appease us and keep his project alive. They did take RCon tools away but they remained adamant that if you could provide proof they would ban for you. THIS WILL GO AWAY. When DayZ goes stand alone we will get back server side control. -

Are tents\cars saving on your server?
ArchAngel-7- replied to gwbrewer's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
same here. Even new tents i set up after updating client and server to 1.7.2.5 are not saving anything. After resetting twice or stopping the server all items in new tents are gone and all items in pre 1.7.2.5 tents/vehicles are like they were before updating... -

DayZ: The state of death, and the Great Storage debate
Killlg replied to The Sad Panda's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I completely disagree with the idea of character skills and a progression of these skills based on how often you perform activites within that skillset. I disagree with this because your actions in DayZ determine who/what your character is, everyone should be able to do everything perfectly well. The difference between every player should always be what they hold in their inventory, that's the true tale of our characters. I like your idea of being able to use a splint to enable walking with a broken leg and even your idea of weapons breaking down and requiring maintenance. I do not think gun maintenance should be a progressable skill within DayZ. Every character should be able to repair guns equally well, it should depend on the parts you've collected, stored, and scaveneged. I believe this would add depth to DayZ in the sense that certain guns could break down more slowly while others may degrade quicker. Pistols, melee weapons, crossbows might be easier to repair than more advanced weapons. Maybe scopes and lenses could crack? As for your storage arguement, I feel it's weak. I'm under the impression that when I place a tent and put items in it that they may as well already be gone. Anyone could find that tent, steal from it, destroy it. Who's to say my next character doesn't find that tent? And I do mean my new character, maybe you don't take those days survived as seriously as others do but I can see them one day being represented by your total play time and every death of mine is tragic and permenant. In order to retrieve something from a tent or even my own rotting corpse I have to first make it there alive, secondly my items have to still be there for me to retrieve, and thirdly I have to place them there in the first place. While I can agree with lowering the inventory count on vehicles and tents, and more importantly lowering the weapon storage slots would help. But destorying the items I put there, just why? Any moment I'm not sitting next to that tent is a moment another player has to steal from it without my knowledge. With duplicating and other such exploits removed from the game I don't see why I shouldn't be able to store items permenantly. If storage as it exists now was removed or altered I can't say I could give two flying shits, I haven't gotten around to storing myself some start-up camps but I was planning on it. Death is practically inevitable in DayZ and feel I should be able to prepare myself for it. Who's to say my current character didn't have a kid and tell him the location of the tent with awsome gear in it with his dying breath, or at anytime for that matter? DayZ doesn't need too many new mechanics, it needs more things, giving me items to collect and things to build in the world permenantly. When I drop a tent and put something in it I'm not just thinking about stopping by later and picking my stuff back up whether I've died or not, I'm also thinking about those who might stumble upon it. I'm putting something in the world that won't go away until someone destroys it or takes it from me and then it continues to exist with or without me and that's why building will be so intriguing in DayZ. Just imagine stumbling upon an abandoned camp, a bunch of tents that have been looted several times over only leaving the most undesireable items and maybe a few gems that couldn't be carried off. Duping sucks, yeah, and what you suggest would negate it a bit, but duping is a bug and one that will be squashed before DayZ is fully released. The same goes for hacking. This storage suggestion seems like a silly attempt to stop part of these issues which will be resolved without the need for drastic changes in the games mechanics. -

†Bloodline Recruiting† [DayZ Clan / 18+ / Teamspeak]
Duncan_Biscuits replied to sushirokun's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Age: 27 steam name: Duncan_Biscuits how long have you played: Around a month and a half Timezone: GMT / I play about 3 days straight then pass out for 12-14hrs so I pretty much play all time zones :P equipment you currently have: I currently Have / can of soda (pepsi) and a bandage but I'm pretty resource full and have over the past week and a half owned all of the guns in the game plus drove most of the vehicles but when I have no one to tell me what to do I'm a straight up wild card (A total spaz) and to that result blown up the vehicles and lost most of the guns but that was all just for fun if I had a group of guys they'de wake up to find I'm still on and they have a nice collection of toys to go pawn some chumps with. I take orders well and love the thrill I get from this game it's the only game that gets my heart pounding. My greatest achievements so far in the game is stealing a hatchet from a snipers bag and hacking him to death with it and stealing his gun my longest life was around 52 hrs I got around 400 zombie kills, 8 Murders,2 Bandit kills 3 vehicles found and used 1 of the cars to blow up one of the 2 bandits, I demo packed the car and waited for him to get in the car and as he pulled away and probably couldn't believe his luck I took it all away from him >:D Trust me it was fkin funny. I'm also currently running the new "Play with six" launcher and the 1.7.2.5 version and my name on it is DustySmoke....... add me on both steam and six to get my attention faster. HAPPY FRAGGIN :) -
For the truly hardcore player there should be options to choose a character class if you want. This is instead of the pilot, engineer, medic class systems that some people want. Amputee - no legs, can only crawl. Blind - pretty obvious. Fat Bastard - needs 10x the amount of food or starves - cannot enter some buildings. Smoker - cant run, needs to smoke 40 a day or shakes uncontrollably, but melee damage is increased due to anger Woman Driver - cannot drive vehicles. Vegetarian - wont eat meat, can only run for 1 minute before passing out. Jehovah's Witness - cannot accept blood bags Alcoholic - needs to drink dregs of whisky bottles every 10 minutes Anymore?

2 Day Old Server [Indecisive Bastards]
Moose12 replied to fty170's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nope. We can't. They randomly spawn in between 2-6 days after creation as I understand it. I also dont know if its sudden or a trickle. They do that to prevent ppl from hoarding all the vehicles and getting an unfair advantage over everyone else. YW to fight for it though when they do spawn! -

Should 1 Hit Kill Sniper rifles be removed from DayZ.
hatfieldcw replied to zecele's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why don't we have an itemized list for this debate? Pro .50-cal: It's a fun gameplay style for some, removal would persecute these players It's the only way to ensure a positive kill on a player who will Alt+F4 at the drop of a hat Effective versus vehicles, specifically the helicopter Anti .50-cal: Duping makes them ubiquitous and trivial to acquire, flooding servers with instagib griefers who cannot be stopped, since they can rearm in minutes and resume their newb-slaying Not in keeping with the spirit of the zombie apocalypse setting Overpowered in DayZ due to balance issues I come down against the .50 sniper rifles. My responses to each point: Pros First: Sniper lifestyle: You can snipe with other rifles. It's tougher, and you'll likely miss some kills, but you can have the full sniper experience with an M24 or DMR. What you'll miss out on is the kill tally, but that's acceptable to me. Alt+F4: Invalid argument. Alt+F4 is used all the time, regardless of what weapon you have. If one-shot kills are the answer, I want my 1911 to deal 37000 damage, too. Effective versus vehicles: I can't really speak to this point, because I don't know how effective .50s are against flying helicopters compared to other weapons. It doesn't seem like something that comes up terribly often, except when helicopters wander into a sniper's area of influence and are targeted. As for the Cons: Duping/Hacking: Sure, dupers and hackers will have the toys they want as long as they're allowed to dupe and hack, so that's no more relevant to the specific weapon issue than the Alt+F4 side of the debate, but it's worth noting that nobody's hacking in a bunch of M110s and KSVKs and duping them. If the guns were removed from the game, they'd be easier to cull on the server side and less tempting to dupe, and that'll mean the pesky sniper on that hill will be using a more demanding rifle, and your death, while still pointless, will be a feat of skill. Not in keeping with the setting: There's plenty of reasons for the guns to be present in Chernarus, so that's not a problem. The only thing that seems out of place about these rifles are how common they are, and that's due to the problems from the previous point. Overpowered: Absolutely, and this is the key reason for me wanting them gone. Why are .50BMG rifles overpowered? They are too easy to succeed with. -Instakill power regardless of point of impact. -Superb optics. -Extraordinary precision. -Unmatched range. A sniper of even modest ability can rack up PvP kills with one of these without much effort. In contrast, the CZ550, DMR, M24 and SVD require a headshot for a clear kill, reducing the valid target area by something like 90%. How do you combat a sniper? 1. Find out where he is 2. Go someplace where your weapons can reach him 3. Kill him. P.S. - Do not let him kill you in the meantime This is hard. Finding him is hard because the effective range of the AS50 is over a kilometer, which is a big radius to search. Getting into position to kill him, while avoiding his eye and the rifle that he's looking through, can take several minutes, due to the distances and terrain concerns. Killing a sniper isn't any harder than killing anyone else, but they're generally well armed, with a backup assault rifle of some kind and a ghillie suit. Plus, they're not any more shy about Alt+F4 than the players they need those guns to kill, so unless you brought a .50 with you, you're going to enjoy a twenty-minute high-risk maneuvering session followed by a fight that's either quite difficult or interrupted by a logoffski, leaving you with no loot, no bandit kill and nothing to show for your herculean effort but some hunger, some thirst and some missing ammo. Not balanced, not fun, not fair. Lose the big guns. -

Should 1 Hit Kill Sniper rifles be removed from DayZ.
gizm0 replied to zecele's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
however what happened to leave the area is the state it is in now and what caused the need for anti-material rifles, yet little to no armor or AA/AT stations Now if there were say wrecks of say more armor or even retrofitted paramiltary vehicles I would understand the possible need for some anti-material. -
I've got it! This is how item storage should work! I'm a genius!
Taphonomy replied to Taphonomy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree with you. However, lots of servers restart every 6 hours or so to avoid performance issues. Is this what you meant by reboot? If so...I would request that there be a separate type of restart that resets the world. That way, servers could continue to restart on schedule, but could also set it to where all storage units and vehicles reset on a different schedule. -
What should I bring when I go to hunt for vehicles?
cindyanne1 replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
Okay I feel really silly asking this but... how can you tell the difference between the vehicles that need repaired and the ones you can just hop in and drive? Of course, I've never come across one you can just hop in and drive; the only vehicles I've found have been a bicycle that wouldn't move and an overturned quad someone had abandoned. How do you know what the vehicles need to be repaired? How can you tell which ones you *can* repair when you see them vs. the rusted heaps that are sitting everywhere? -
