The radio station idea was discussed in another thread, but I really dig the idea of vehicles having radios that work just like portable radios.

Seems blown up vehicles just come back on server restart. Anyway to make them really despawn so that they'll eventually respawn somewhere else with the default items (none? not sure) in them?

I've been playing the game for over a month and I've never met a confirmed hacker. On my recently bought server the vehicles don't spawn yet and when I saw a chopper today I reset it while it was in the air. I might be lucky... I usually played on servers with 10-20 people during the day, 4-8 night. I've had my share of pvp. -
At first, I think "I'd love to see a little bird in DayZ." Then I realize "I will never see a little bird in DayZ.". Because vehicles aren't found on the map, they're found in clusters made by hoarding clans. :(

Hello! I've gotten banned from the server SE 47 as the topic states. It's my "home" server I guess you could call it. Anyway, the server has been down the whole day today and when it finally got back online and I tried to connect to the server I got an error message saying I've been banned for scripting :o. I have never scripted and intend to keep it that way. I have not used scripted weapons etc. The only thing I can think of that might be suspicious is that after the server resets there was 2 vehicles that spawned on a road. So basically everytime I played there was vehicles there which me and my friends obviously grabbed. I dont think that is an valid offence though cause even though we drove them away and saved them somewhere else they turned into bicycles/other vehicles and some even turned into dust and then respawned back on the road. It's the road that goes south a bit east of Gorka and go through Polana if that matters. Thanks! PS. I guess a name could be good so you can look further into it. I have been playing under the name "Matte" and recently switched to "Pungkula Flashmaster"

Me and a friend was banned from this server as well. We were scouting the woods to the west looking for vehicles after a fresh spawn and being killed by a teleporting hacker (whom you banned), came across a few tents and a vehicle. Were looting some weapons and ammo from the tents, saw a chopper fly above us, held ground, then all of a sudden we see two people eject from the chopper right above us, so we figured hostile and shot them down, killed both, while running to loot the spoils, we get banned for "HACKING", not sure if that was your camp or not, but we surely weren't hacking. Our names were ">>> Gazoo" and ">>> Tyrant"

Should cars only explode when hit by explosives?

I hit a tree stump with my tractor. Unfortunately, my windshield and wheels were already broken... So I blew up. But seriously, this is funny. Vehicles need damage detection. -
For those of you have driven vehicles in DayZ, most of you know that if shot enough the vehicles will explode. Same will happen if your vehicle is in bad shape and you tap a bush, tree, or shoddy wooden fence. If you shoot a sedans tires a few times with an AS50, you wont just flatten the tires, the car will... explode. Killing all or most inside and or next to it. I think it would be nice if cars exploding was rare. Shooting the engine block, and or tires should just destroy that part and make it so it must be replaced. Cars generally do not explode when shot in real life. Is there a possibility for it to happen? Yes. Does it happen all the time? NO. Yes, I understand that it's a game/mod and not truly realistic. Though, when the game is striving to have some realistic aspects (er... zombies aside) It would be nice if you were able to just disable a car without worrying about it exploding and killing the occupants. Or, worrying that the ATV you're on will randomly explode from tapping a bush or small fence. Maybe I want to shoot out the tires and car jack the guy driving it. Take his car and make him run into the woods without killing him.... This gets insanley hard to do when his engine has low health because one too many shots hitting the front end blow it up. Anyone else think vehicles should only explode when explosives are used? Rocket launcher, satchel charges, grenades, m203 etc. Just seems silly that a sedan will explode just because it's in bad shape and ran over a sheep, or took an AKM round to the radiator... An example: My friend found a tractor with full health and half a tank of gas. Decided to take it, and ended up hitting a hay bail at a very slow speed. He broke his legs, and it instantly exploded and killed him before he could get out. I swear he had to have been going 10mph... Now, while it was hilarious and I almost died laughing, it shouldn't have happened... Anyway, just an idea. Have at it with bashing or additions and changes etc.

Working Vehicles and save, Downgraded my server to 1.7.4

Also downgraded my server to 1.7.2.4 today. Vehicles are not saving and it's a mess. Works fine in 1.7.2.4. -

Items do not spawn inside vehicles I believe. So either someone wrecked that car a left. Leaving the items there. Someone found it, tossed them in. OR the vehicle bugged. As in, it spawned in with items that it had before being reset. -
No vehicles spawning on new server.

Clumping tents and/or vehicles = bad Not placing tents and/or vehicles in pine trees = bad If you were building it for a screenshot then it looks great. If you were building it to serve as a reliable location to save your gear I'm afraid you'll soon be saying FFFFUUUUUUUUUUU...

Don't put tents/vehicles at the border of the map....just...don't A walk along the map border is a safe way to find someones camp, simply because everyone does it Pick a nice forest in the middle of the map that is not located near hotspots like NWAF, Stary Sobor, Devils Castle, etc Find a group of trees that have thick leaves and are standing closely together, they conceal quite effectively Try to cover atleast 3 angles from which your vehicle can be seen Tents are easier because you only need 2 trees very close to eachother, put tent in the middle, success Don't mix well camouflaged vehicles like the V3S with obvious vehicles like the Ural Split your camp into two if needed We had our camp up for atleast 2 months It became quite large with 3 ATVs, 2 UAZs, 1 Ural, 1 V3S, 1 Motorbike, 5 tents Yet it remained unlooted....until the server admin decided to take the server down for good All our logistics gone with the push of a button Bottom line, always be prepared to loose your stuff -

I think characters are but not tents or vehicles. That's why the vehicles had to be added to servers individually and why the state of tents and vehicles saving is based on the version the server is running. Could be wrong, but I remember seeing a discussion on this before -
Ok, so i could really use some feedback cause this game is trolling us like never before... I had a fully stashed ATV on one server for weeks now, and I've been using it a lot since 2.5 and a tent close by. Earlier today i checked everything out, used the ATV to raid for vehicle parts in Berezino and parked it again in its orignal spot after i was done. Now after a server restart the tent had reset to the status it had WEEKS ago (one pile of wood instead of everything that was actually in it) and the ATVs DUPLICATED and its stash was reset to a fresh spawned ATV (1 tent, 5 heat packs and 2 cans of beans). Now a few hours later i was picking up my friend in Solnichny with another ATV i fixed up today on another server and after we arrived North the server restarted shortly after i parked and saved the ATV, and AGAIN its contents were reset to one tent, 5 heat packs and 2 cans of beans... We lost a huge amount of items to bugs neither of us has ever experienced before (and we have been playing 1.7.2.5 since Saturday) so we're not sure if its worth playing if tents and vehicles just randomly reset now. Would really appreciate it if someone has some info on what is going on...

You guys can't ban me for my username. I will return and I will stalk you and I will kill you. I will blow up the vehicles your ESP using members find and hoard. I will run over your tents. I will wreck you. And either you can face this reality, or be blacklisted and not have a server.

Try to hide it better. Some servers fail to maintain vehicles and tents through restarts, so you can wait the next restart to be 100% sure. -

Ha ha protect gear? you can't even save it :thumbsup: don't worry no one can take your gear from your tent, not even you :P I found out that tent can save only another tent in it. Oh and there is a bug some times after server restart tents and vehicles not spawn at all, wait for next server restart. -

Nice inititive to start this thread, I was about to start one myself :) First of all, thank you shadder for that you like the server, thats the whole point in running it apart from my own and my friends pleasure, everyone should be able to enjoy it. About passwording. The idea is good and I have been thinking of something in the same line. But... The server hosting rules clearly states that I am not allowed to do so, so I will not password the server and only let invited/approved players onto the server, even though that would sort out the bad apples. Regarding that the server been pretty much empty the last two days when it's usually pretty much full 24/7 the only things I know of is I still run 1.7.2.4 and I upgraded to a new beta patch, presumably the regular user uses sixlauncher and will not get the beta version without going to arma2.com and fixing it themselfs. Which many people might not know, I might downgrade the beta patch so it fills up again. Also I accidentally did something so the server halted the restart script at scheduled restart so the server was down some time. And I also noticed the server had not spawned tents/vehicles properly. This combination could account for the lack of players. Also, the hackers is really destroying this game and there is not much I can do about it I'm afraid. I pretty much stopped battling them for a while when I used some 10 hours time chasing hackers without success. The tools to catch hackers is real poor and the arma 2 engines problem that it's "hacker-friendly" is simply too bad. Best regards Karg

Wipe all the vehicles and tents, but keep players' inv intact. Then, watch the storm of dupers running to their tents to get their precious m4a1 cco sds and as50s. -
Vehicles are not currently saving with the lastest dayz patch being bugged. We have server restarts every 8 hours, so it may very well have been then, we are working on a warning system 2 minuites before restarts. If you were banned, please send me your name and GUID and I'll look into it for you, this may have been an accident on our end as we do have an experimental automatic banning system in place.
