Well kinda like military training manuals found only in the barracks which opens up more options. Improvised vehicles would require you to have a vehicle repair manual to create vehicles such as a buggy, motorbikes etc.

I created a Lingor Island server with acex_sm installed. Running smooth but need more people to test it. west coast players preferred as the server is in oahu, HI. Ping might not be showing correctly but west coast users should get around a 90 ping. come to the website http://dayzoahu.webs.com and register and head to the forums to get the links for the mod. hope to see u there. Trying to find bugs and work them out before i share my configuration with others. also read the faq because it changes alot of things in the game. also doubled the amount of zombies that will spawn around you. Thanks. PS - This is a private hive so all character data is saved locally. Vehicular Armor Idea -{STANDALONE}-

I like the idea but I think adding guns would be pointless, maybe vehicles with guns attached already but not a bus with a M240 hanging form each window.Keep it fair... -
What's the point of helicopters?

I don't use vehicles or tents. I never knew about the spawns/respawns. -
What's the point of helicopters?
jdblair5 replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
All this damn time you been playing the game and on the forums you didn't know how tents and vehicles work? What the hell you been doing man? But to answer your question (hence the edit) Whats the point of tents? to dupe gear. Whats the point of vehicles? to drive to the shore, kill fresh spawns, then drive back to my gear duping tents. -
1, 2 and vehicle upgrades were fine. The Barracks and improvised vehicles thing didn't seem right... I really would like more biohazards in game though so 1 would be a nice addition. I don't know how Forensic labs and Pharma labs would work, especially in what could be considered an MMO.

What's the point of helicopters?
rolling replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The only thing that doesn't save is Helicopters. All other vehicles and tents stay forever, until the server completley dumps its entire save file. -
I saw this to, nowadays I only play in private lingor servers, and for some reasons the tents work, and even the dumping isn't possible Oo. The server admin of my favorite server told that every action on tent runs the 'save' command. That command even exist anymore, because it save in every open/close. And the military flashlight , oooh that one :P . You can put on your shoulder, and use it while aiming your gun, you can turn the red filter on/off, so you have the small red cone or the giant monster regular light cone :} Edit: I forgot to say about choppers :P . There are 2 or 3 (in some servers even more) , so you really see it on air. Not some top secret resource hided in end of map. It's normal to see one of them flying around while playing . And if you fire at it, the server don't magically reset . And when server reset, the vehicles are where they are :P .

Looking for private server? In here!
adamtheheretic replied to Max Planck's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Okay, so I'm a hoarder... I run a store and am looking to get away from it. I like having pretty much all items at my disposal and don't want to give them up but taking a break to join a private hive would be much more fun. I'm not into death matching but I want to end up in firefights, raiding camp sites and stealing vehicles and not bother to use tents, just vehicles. Some basic information about a server I'd like to find: GMT -4/+4 UK/FR 1.7.2.4 (For vehicle saving) Third Person - Off Tracers - Off Nameplates - Off (Mandatory) Crosshairs - Off Death Messages - Off -
Just thought I'd promote the hive I play on: I found Vigilant Addiction from playing on one of their public servers, US 228, which had a advertisement for their private line. At the time I wasn't sure what that meant but after looking into it I'm glad I switched over. Being able to keep what you've earned and not having to worry about hackers 24/7 makes for a great DayZ experience. VA hosts 4 different private servers two of which are veteran with 3rd person activated. There's also one hardcore with 3rd person off (which I play on) and one Lingor island. All four servers are running custom settings with fixes to vehicles and tents to prevent duping as well as item and vehicle position loss. Combat disconnecting is forbidden and will result in a ban. More vehicles Randomized spawn locations Timer for vehicle respawn turned low (No more 7 day wait) All servers passworded To apply you need to post in the "Private Hive Access Requests" subforum. Please read the stickied directions. servers.vigilantaddiction.com side note: In effort to spice things up we also use a community driven faction system. It's still in the works! HC1 Territories

Debug Monitor disappears, Can't perform any actions, Can't find any fixes
eggsaladactyl posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
So the past few days I have been dealing with the most annoying bug I have come across since playing this game. After about a minute of play time after joining a server my Debug Monitor disappears. This prevents me from being able to eat, drink, combine ammo, put on clothing, picking up vehicle parts, performing any medical actions, and sometimes prevent me from accessing vehicles. I've seen only a few threads about this issue and none of them have had much attention, nor has anyone figured out a fix. I've verified cache, reinstalled, updated everything, and still nothing. It just came out of nowhere a few days ago and the only brief fix is to relog which sometimes on high pop servers is painful to wait for and it only fixes it for a minute so I have to do it near whatever I need to access and do it quickly before my debug monitor disappears again. Does anyone else have this problem and could it please be looked in to? Having to relog every 20 or so minutes and waiting 5+ minutes to get back in to the game is rough. -
Losing lots of servers?
TheLoneRanger (DayZ) replied to Nick_Nac's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Artifacts are solved by PBO editing the dead bodies out using CPBO. However, checksums do not match up and most servers kick after 10-20 mins. A hotfix that removes the corpses from the game would solve 99% of artifacting problems. As for vehicles and tents, yeah theyre buggered as all hell. Super annoying. All of my stuff from 1.7.2.4 just constantly respawns, and new stuff disappears. Same with vehicle inventories. Also, its back to school time in America; I'm not on as much (College), as are many others. Combine that with DayZ Vets of 2-4 months getting bored, the numbers drop. Still, a sizeable chunk do play every day. -
Player made maps.
Someguywhoplaysgames replied to Someguywhoplaysgames's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
But i love the idea of having a map where clans would clash, i could not tell you how many times I've either died or almost died from heavy clan wars in cherno/elektro. Imagine if someone made something where you could make your own vehicles and weapons for your map. It would be complicated. But awesome, like having a large farm land someone could have wandered into and the posiblity of finding a combine instead of a tractor or a pitch fork instead of a hatchet or have full bottles of whiskey you can make molotovs out of or drink like 2 or so and your screens gets blurred. Just a couple ideas. -
Calling for MASS HIVE WIPE <---|
[email protected] replied to Deadline's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yep, at the moment if I die for whatever reason I go back to a few good solid tents that are like dispensing machines and fully gear up, the only time wasted is that what it took to run to these tents. I vote Yes to a full database wipe. However, this would need to occur at the same time they fix vehicles and tents <---- priority -
Like the idea behind the fuel station being the only way to refuel your vehicle. Expanding on this why not have other buildings have different functions to them rather than just loot spawns. Here are my thoughts on how some of these buildings can increase the knowledge of the player by either having to find bits of information or by conducting experiments in these buildings. 1. Schools (Labs are not part of every school on the map) Chemical Lab Ability to recognize chemical hazards in environment as well as to quarantine/recognize zombies with chemical mutations. Zombies with such mutations produce burns to the body requiring substantial treatment time to heal i.e. blood levels remain capped for a certain period. Biological Lab Ability to recognize biological hazards in the environment as well as to quarantine/recognize zombies with biological mutations. Much greater chance of catching an infection when moving amongst these zombies. 2. Hospitals Forensic Labs Ability to track more details in the environment but not limited to cause of death such as blood trails, bullet caliber, shoe size, shoe patterns etc. Pharma Labs More advanced medical treatment centre with the ability to create varying strains of infection in an area. Zombies need to be alive and bought into the labs for analysis and injected with chemicals to analyze and alter their strains as well as to harvest the required strain to alter zombies in another region. 3. Barracks Ability to learn better survival strategies in the form of nutrition, stamina, stealth, weapons maintenance, advanced frontline medical care techniques, traps, vehicle maintenance, equipment harvesting (items from the environment can now be harvested in such a way to create your own device/vehicle using blueprints available) etc. 4. Tec Industrial Building Improvised Vehicles Ability to create your own improvised vehicles based on blueprints found. Vehicle Upgrades Upgrades to existing vehicles can be carried out such as speed, vehicle disassembly, radio, frequency scanner, paint etc.

It is an alpha, but understandably there is a limit on the amount of bugs/issues that players will tolerate, and with the eye-bleeding artifacts and now broken tents/vehicles not saving it's reaching a tipping point for many, that's being reflected both with the servers and on the forums. I know my regular server is in the process of switching over to Vilayer's hive (in which tents and vehicles save) and I know quite a few other servers are too. Obviously some things cannot be fixed until standalone but I hope the tents/vehicles/artifacts do soon.

Right now, Day Z plays simply as "Survive as long as you can". The game never really ends and that's fine. I feel that's one mode of play and Day Z can facilitate a few more for different type of people. Here are my ideas on the goals that one could be trying to accomplish in Single Player and PVE Multiplayer. A goal that could be applied to single player is Rescue. First, the player needs to find the initial rescue point. This would be a helicopter with some soldiers in it. The player won't know how to find the rescuers except by tracking them. You play and find all the gear like normal, but you're trying to find the rescue squad and join up with them. However, there is a chance the rescue squad can die from zombies, helicopter failures, or bandit attacks (all NPC driven of course). This means you have to survive until you can tell a new rescue force have arrived. If you succeed in joining them, then you get access to checkpoint where you can save your progress, get vehicles and gear on demand, and then are assigned to go help other survivors throughout Cherno. With each successful clearance of missions, you get better gear to choose and can take more with you when trying to retrieve survivors. A secondary mission could also be zombie exterminating where you're simply ordered to go into an area, wipe out so many Zombies and come back alive. Scavenging for supplies for be a third mission option. For PVE multiplayer, the goal would be to lockdown major towns and cities. The way to do that would be to exterminate all the zombies within a time limit. You would need to work with a different sized group of players to accomplish this based on the size of the location. You can temporarily secure parts of a city bit by bit, but a town needs to be completely occupied all at once. Once a location has been successfully locked down, it becomes a respawn point for all players involved. The goal is lock down all of the map and maintain control. As time goes on, Zombies will come from the perimeter and you'll have to play tower defense basically. Players will have to spread themselves out across the map in order to protect all the towns. Unoccupied towns fall quickly and easily to invading zombies. Also, the longer you hold down places, and the more places secured, better gear spawns within your territory and you'll be able to support more people. Feel free to critique my suggestions and submit your own. I want to hear what everyone else thinks about alternate goals for game modes.

I near gave up on Dayz until I said screw it and became a mountain man. It's really the only playstyle I can conceive at the moment not dependent on good gear or vehicles. Matches, a hatchet, and a water bottle. BAM. Mountain man.

Losing lots of servers?
[email protected] replied to Nick_Nac's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah noticed that a lot in Oz, we actually managed to get a quite a few servers up and running but now that list has halved :(, have had to change home servers twice in the past 2 weeks. Last night the admin asked everyone to vote on whether to roll back to 1.7.2.4 or not, he wanted to see what people thought, I voted No but couldnt see what others had said, think that server is going to roll back as well. If they dont fix the tents/vehicles then not only are we losing people (check the number of people on in the last 24 hours) but also servers. /shrug. Im sure those in the know know what they are doing. -
had a chopper finnally again after waiting 3 weeks to play again... had fun with it for 40 min server filled up hacker teleported all vehicles outside map with me in chopper... killed everything Dont you have any fucking priority? If battleye is failing this bad... wouldnt you think you would code ur own danm anti cheat.... UR GUNNA NEED IT FOR UR STAND ALONE F THIS GAME

Detta Company is Recruiting!
raisinghell replied to alexthedude's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How long have you played? around 2-3 months How frequent do you play? i use to play everyday when i was running with my old squad of RL friends, since they all quit though ive only been on a few times a week (would play more if had ppl to play with since solo sucks) What role would you like to play? Pointman, Sniper, Spotter Can you pilot a heli, or drive a vehicle with a decent amount of skill? ive nvr driven a vehicle in DayZ, but in normal Arma2 i can pilot heli's and drive vehicles Can you navigate the map? yes What area of the world do you live in? USA, Ky Tell us a bit about yourself. I personally dislike coast snipers, there is no fun in hunting unarmed players or noobs. if im going to be a bandit i want bloodsport, the thrill of death, and finding good loots. Ive nvr alt+f4'd out of the game to avoid death. other than that i like to survive. i also play several other games and am active on Steam all the time. -
Team DN Server looking to adopt an opposing Team!
DontBeSneaky posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hey guys, So Team DN have just got their own Lingor Island server and we are looking for another clan to oppose us. We will give you gear and vehicles to make it fair and if a seize fire is needed, it can be arranged. We also have a regular DayZ server which we would like to do the same on! If interested contact Phonix247420 on steam or Join the server! Just filter servers to 'Team DN' and you'll find us. Cheers! -
So, DayZ. What a fantastic concept and what an addictive game. Horror / Survival / FPS at its best. I have been playing for some months now but have finally decided to give up. Ok, well, maybe give up is a bit strong. Let me rather lay it out like this: What I love / hate about the game: Zombies/Infected - Brilliant. The variety is good too. Nothing gives you the motivation to survive more than being hunted by mindless drones (and scary ones at that). I particularly like the motion / movement (very uncanny valley). I am not too fond of the spawning mechanics. Too often Zombies are an idication of someone already in an area and nothing pisses off more than when they spawn next to you or somewhere stupid (like in a wall or some such). I am sure this is a limitation of the engine and can be fixed in a standalone module. Loot - Too much crap loot. I understand the dynamic to limit the goods but sometimes the odds are a bit too stacked against you. I once played for hours encountering almost every kind of ammuntion but never getting anyting I could fire with. and the amounts of times I was deperate for food or water was idotic. And how can you be thirsy in the rain anyhow? Now I know this is a minor gripe but sometimes its just too much, especially when you spawn far away from Electro / Cherno and have little choice about where to go. It leads me onto the next issue... Transport - There needs to be something we can do about this (maybe some kinds of limited distance single use vehicles in remote locatiopns or that can get you from city to city, just) - Getting around on foot really sucks big time. I appreciate the dynamic at first for a while but after a bit it just gets tedious. When you spawn out in the middle of nowhere it gets tiresome really quick when you run for 30 mins only to get chomped by Z's or killed by bandits... Bandits - Love em or hate em they add flavour to the game. But there is a limit to flavour and its a bit sour after a while. There has to be some cost to pay in killing other players, otherwise a crucial dynamic is lost. It is easy to ambush and kill others, harder to play honestly. My own personal faveorite suggestion would be that too many kills lowers humanity and the player becomes infected and, like the pass out phases, becomes a Z for intermediate amounts of time. Too much humanity lost and they become a full time Z and can only watch as thier charactes tumbles around, fully equipped yet mindless and just waiting for someone to shoot them. Or injure them... Injuries - I like this idea, but ARMA doesent do it well. I broke my leg closing a door ffs! jumping down 2 stairs and bam - break. Too easy to break, too difficult to fix. And is that the only medical condition?... Medical & environmental conditions - Bring back the cold and fevers. It made the game tougher on a more useful level. Obvs needing a campfire drew bandits but its only because there was no bandit penaly that that didnt work out. If temp doesent matter anymore then for gods sake stop dropping heatpacks as loot then! Food is an awesome idea that is well done. I like the dynamic a lot, especially killing / gutting / cooking. Very cool. Finally - Hacking - Ok... so ARMA II has so many bugs its silly and so many security holes it is unreal. BattleEye is good and deters script kiddies but it is by no means secure. The number of times I got transported into a thunderdome or wilderness maze. Once i was turned into a goat! Or hows about that time I shot that dude 6 times in the head with a Lee Enfield and he just laughed and beat me to death with a crowbar? Just as an experiment I decided to test out how easy it would be to become a hacker. A simple google search was all it took to start messing with the system. BattleEye was a bit problematic but took around 30 mins to bypass the global ban and from then on in it was plain sailing. Now before you start - I never messed with the other players or the game (no group bombs or teleports) but I did realise how trivial it was to do anyting on any of the servers. I know that the ARMA engine and Bohemia are doing what they can but seriously, without massively stronger server side game management and cheat detection it is simply too easy to get away with naughtiness. The fact is, this game will piss people off by its nature, and pissed of people will go to great lengths to get revenge, even educate themselves on how to cheat the system. Also, global bans encourage a worse kind of hack... key stealers and account hacks. I think something cleverer is called for, maybe some kind of degrading performance or secret handicap for suspected cheats? There also needs to be some kind of redemption system where someone can rebuild thier status and not be driven into worse offenses as a result of global / server bans. I guess thats my piece, I hope the dedicated game is as good as we all hope and captures what makes DayZ an awesome concept. Laters folks. Bob

can't seem to find any vehicles (tips)
MurQ replied to haag963's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't use the map as I know where most vehicles spawn and that map is outdated(very), use the dayZ wiki and only bother with the ones that have grid coordinates, I can confirm that most of them on there(with coords) are the real spawnpoints. -
Introduce slumber...and many other ideas
ChazSchmidt replied to Lillo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd like to start off by saying you have quite a few good ideas listed here, I am going to give my opinion on some points. I personally don't like the idea of being specialized, but I believe the best way of going about what you are aiming for is have player's not able to carry every item they will need ever. So essentially it would take a team of let's say a guard, a medic, and an engineer to maintain a small crew properly. Map viewing together is an interesting concept and I would like to see the ability to mark just your personal map. You may want to try looking harder my friend, Ursa Major/Minor and the North Star are already there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqelc7x70vQ This is interesting and adds an amount of realism but I wouldn't count on its implementation soon. I disagree that all flying vehicles would escape. They still need fuel and where better to find fuel than Chernarus. Also, heli's add options to gameplay style and quick transportation. They already require fuel and maintainence which is good in my book. They provide more endgame for geared out players. This is a nice idea and will more than likely be a part of the standalone. Weapon consumption should be approached delicately because weapons don't actually degrade that often in real life. I have heard better alternatives like the requirement of cleaning them every once and a while or else they jam. Lock picking if ever added should be an ability that can be done by anyone with the proper skills (slight of hand, etc), not the proper stats. I believe gaining stats or perks ruins the realism and the equality already established. Overall, some great ideas. I love the idea of sleep and would like to add that maybe with sleep deprivation you start to hallucinate. Hallucinations could be random sounds of seeing zoms or vehicles that aren't there. Eventually you would pass out from exhaustion.
