50cal Revamp; Make 'em rare again!
ScottyTheEngineer replied to Dynami's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think I've made a thread about this a about two months ago or so, but can't find it (it's not filed under my threads anymore...). One big problem (besides duping and hacking) is that there is no "sink", where items disappear. Even if duping was fixed and the chance of spawning for the high-tier weapons was drastically reduced, their numbers would be constantly increasing anyway. That's because items disappear because they despawn (no one picks them up until the server restarts), they're destroyed or due to bugs. Since everyone would pick up a super-rare, top tier gun and backpack bugs will be (hopefully) fixed some day, these guns would almost never disappear. I suggested to set a limit for weapon spawning for each server, depending on how many weapons of a certain type are already present on the server (including tents and vehicles). -
The dark ambient is amazing. I'd hit up Aphex Twin or somebody more lo-pro like Future Sound of London. Morgenstern or Winterkalte could be cool too as their ambient is fucked up. As much as I dig slow non-commercial dubstep or metal it just doesn't fit. Nothing with drums. On another note, vehicles need to have stereos that can access your MP3s. Every time I hop into my truck the conspicuous lack of Hank Williams is glaring.

So ive been playing on lingor for a week and the admins on the rezzed server keep crying about their heli being stolen so they restart the server whenever it happens, at first i just let them get on with it they pay for their server so whatever. That was until i found out were losing our equip and being spawned to random places when they do this, they blocked the military camp off in maruko with 2 buses so no other players in the server can loot the barracks there or get acces to the vehicles they keep. The scheming little rejects have made it so the only way u can get in the place is logging off in another server to ghost in the base(so they can ban you for it). Horrible tactics but i lowered myself to this for this 1 specific mission, i logged on the server inside their base ran to the buses and drove them from the entrance, then jumped into the huey started her up and off i went for a good 5 minute flight bfor plunging into chipunka, i didnt want to destroy it but how the f are you supposed land those things. I spawned miles accross the map and was on my way to retrieve my nvg's and L85 from the wreckage when i get a msg in side chat from an admin; "before i ban you for glitching/ghosting where did you crash the Huey" ahaahaa lol the cheek on these yoghurts

Theres nothing to do in DayZ
AnarchyBrownies replied to Eazy-Makaveli's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There's a lot to do, maybe you just don't have enough patience for the game. There's nothing saying you have to play the game at some breakneck speed. Have you found night vision goggles yet? Have you found a ghillie suit? Have you found an AS50 (not from a body or from a tent)? Have you found an L85A2-AWS? Have you started a camp? Have you tried finding and/or collecting vehicles? Have you tried racking up a huge zombie kill count? Have you tried racking up a huge player kill count? Have you tried finding someone and just stalking them? Have you tried making friendly contact with people to get a team and make your own goals? Have you tried robbing people? Have you tried kidnapping them? I mean this is just me coming up with this, I'm sure people are finding plenty of other things to do. -
Let me paint you a picture of DayZ game mechanics.
FreshmeatDK replied to SillySil's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think this discussion has run foul of the original argument. SillySil has stated an indisputable fact: A lot of people kill on sight. Enough people kill on sight to make teamwork between strangers a very rare thing. He also made a model of the game that nicely explains why it is so. It does not matter how people ought to behave in the current game, unless we have means of enforcing said behavior. It matters how they do behave, and it matters that if we change the underlying premises of the game, we will change the behavior of the average player. As for SillySils model being wrong: It explains the data nicely, namely that people helping one another are far more rare than people killing each other. DayZ is not your average board game, granted, and we have a broad spectrum of options, but we still have a game where banditry is more profitable than non-banditry. As for real world morals somehow influencing the game, a sad fact is that a lot of people use their anonymity to do things they otherwise would abstain from. We cannot change that. Without going into a metaethics discussion, our morality is to a high degree founded on the expected reactions from others (unless you want to drag God into the mess). As Jex stated, he would get angry with a player who griefed him if he met him. Here, that statement only serves to demonstrate the impotence of RL morals on the net. What we need is mechanisms based on self-interest that encourage cooperation in the short term instead of the long term, because long terms only exists on a few secluded servers and inside clans.*) Can we agree that we would like to encourage people to cooperate, but leave the profits of banditry high enough so people know cooperation is risky, but rewarding? I think that discussion is far more fruitful than whether morals enter into a game. *) On a side note, this is what makes clans so ridiculously powerful within the game. Cooperation on a long scale yields vehicles, choppers and loads of high grade weapons, and even two players traveling together is enough to deter most single players from attacking. -
New players joining and looking for tips
BelMarduk replied to Pherion's topic in New Player Discussion
There are many youtube videos for new players. Just do a search for 'dayz how to' in youtube. I wouldnt worry too much about the hive questions, although there is a huge list of 'alternate' servers just dont connect to one with 'extra' info next to 'dayz' in the server list and you should always connect to a 'hive' server. The game is persistent on an individual level, meaning anything to have on your person will carry over to any other server you connect to (in the hive) but tents/vehicles are server specific. Prepare to die many many times. The learning curve as to what buildings are enterable, and what loot you can find in those buildings takes time. The first couple weeks I played I think my average life span was less than an hour (maybe 10 min the first day or so). The big thing is learning what your environment looks like (from buildings to players, e'g' what buildings are enterable that a bandit will most likely shoot you on sight, but a hero will most likely help you). Send me a PM and Ill tell you what server I live on and help you learn the environment while watching your back. Our group (we are not a clan) is dedicated to helping new players and hunting bandits [bMG] and [bMGM]. -
Banned by admin for stealing Huey
SmokeyFTM replied to SmokeyFTM's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The reason i made this post is for other users who have experienced the same thing or genuinly want to read it, many of us get sick and tired of the hackers and dupers so we go onto servers other forum posters have kindly informed us of so we can kill them, destroy their stuff and make their DayZ experiences as stressful as they have made a lot of ours. The same thing can be done with admin abuse, abuse the admins for it. take their Huey and other vehicles give the locations to the other players on the server to use, . Let them kick people off their server 1 at a time till its only them left with their precious toys to play with -

The Asylum - BUILDING CONSTRUCTION, REDUCED MIL SPAWNS, CUSTOM ANTIHACK AND MORE!
treshold82 replied to paratus's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
How does this construction option work in practice? I noticed you have to login with your character name on your website? Those camouflage nets for vehicles are brilliant idea though 15 ghiillie suit and 5 camo suit can take a time to gather on private hive :D -
I think one problem is people save the vehicles somewhere and either 1) forget where or 2) stop playing.... maybe if they made it where after you save it and the vehicle is untouched for xx amount of time it respawns.

Tents still duping/losing items 1.7.1.5
sibexus replied to kicktd's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Logged in 4 days later, vehicles are back. *shrug -
As a server owner, I've noticed that certain ways of rebooting a server often result in vehicles being removed entirely. We actually had to reboot twice, and the vehicles came back - albeit with no fuel, but.. perhaps the server in question did not restart properly. Either that, or it was found by somebody else.

Oh, wow. Wasn't expecting so much beans. Thanks guys, glad you liked the story. ^_^ After searching for a decent, stable server with functioning vehicles (that are actually on the map instead of outside it) and no hacker incidents (so far), I'd really rather not announce it on the forums now that I've finally found one. It would be filled within the day and my hard earned camp, along with my pickup, my UAZ, and my ATV, would likely be destroyed. My skype is in my profile, and my policy is the more, the merrier. Just don't pull anything funny, you may get shot :D Can't say I really blame you, but I refuse to become that which I have been fighting against.

We were aware of the fuel bug. I didn't say we drove anywhere without jerry cans and I cannot even comprehend how you managed to understand that out of my first post. We put various vehicles at different places on different servers and over the course of two days they all dissapeared. First one server and a day later the next one.
-
I know exactly who hacked for them, but I can assure you it wasn't a SCAG member. Those helicopters wouldn't survive a reset, so why not play around with them? If you blow up their vehicles they wouldn't come back, with 1.7.2.6 vehicles actually go away when blown up. You suspiciously log onto their server one day and find the exact location of their base? I call bullshit. You deserved to get a server ban for suspected foul play in the way you just happen to find their base. Since you now know the choppers weren't able to survive a reset, and I assume you logged in pretty fast, that means the server restarts frequently as suggested by the recommended 6 hour restart for optimal performance. From what I understand there isn't a limit to how often you can actually restart a server either. They didn't break any rules taking advantage of a hacker's stuff. You blatantly accuse them of hacking when you don't have your facts straight.

We want bandits on our server! Come join lingor island! Be a bandit
Outypoo replied to devilsnight's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So you'd really just give me guns and vehicles to kill people?! TAKE MAH MONIES NAOW! -
Vehicles do save in the current patch, when we updated a few vehicles did reset, but that was the old patch. Yes, restarts on this patch sometimes deplete the vehicles fuel, but if your driving with no jerry cans, why are you driving that far away?

[Vi 400 USA] Official Thread - Takistan / Lingor / Chernarus - Super Active Admin - 3 Servers
spex replied to spex's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
To be honest, I never set any ground rules. I'm sorry you didn't have a great experience. Our biggest goal with our servers is to make sure people have a good time. Unfortunately that's really difficult to do with Utes. They're a bitch to manage. They require restarts every 45 min or so, hackers always try to hit it, and it brings out the WORST of the DayZ community. It turned into me babysitting the server all day instead of getting work done. I initially bought the server on Saturday to put it on Lingor. Before doing so I thought I'd try Utes. To my surprise it exploded in popularity and was almost always full. As of last night I made the decision to change it over to Lingor. It is a bummer to turn my back on the popularity but I can't devote the required time to maintain restarts and kick griefers. However, I'll be talking with a few of my clan members and if they can pitch in the time, I'll buy a 3rd server this weekend and put it on Utes. In the meantime, come give our Lingor server a try. It's the first time we've run Lingor on it so all the vehicles are up for grabs. -
Dayz server save hot fix 1.7.2.5 issue now with 1.7.2.6
Gogster (DayZ) replied to kloster's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If the helicopter was wrecked on day 1 prior to the update, it'll be 6 days before it re-spawns or whatever days prior and after to make 7. The hive controls vehicles, not the patches. -
DayZ takistan opinion
Michaelvoodoo25 replied to Audio Rejectz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Ive been on this map since 10.30am GMT, There are some issues, regarding rocks and stuff floating off the ground. Had a hacker who teleported us to the middle of nowhere, but we were transported back in no time. Finding other players is easy as you can just look for zed activity in towns and villages. However snipers will need to get one shot or their plot will be discovered. there is cover and certain parts are green but not a lot of it at all. A huge desert with shrubbery here and there. There is a base like Sobor / Novy and it is a sight to behold, tents in the air, cars flying, gear spawning in ground (accessible mind) It's worth playing and is huge, but be warned you may be walking in one direction and you'll think you've gone off map. Finding loot is easy and there is a lot of it, maps are common. The air bases are packed full of loot (every time i visited there were farmers taking all the gear and putting it in hangars - very defensive) and there are enough military bases around to gear up in. The biggest let down is Vehicles, there are a lot of them and the problem is no Industrial areas so no spare parts. I have found busses, Gaz? bicycles, and another car type. I found only 1 chopper roto assembly and never came across a crashed chopper (there are some on map) Zeds lose interest after a short run, lose LOS and your safe, but like an update a while ago, they can sometimes see you for miles. Weapons are the norm, but I found them harder to find and did not come across a hatchet at all (They are in however) Not one tank trap nor fence. and only 1 tent. These observations were made since 10.30am so a lot of time was spent in game. Have fun and Be ready to die a lot. -
Our Chopper and Vehicles saved before a hacker got to them, the only thing bugged was they have no fuel after the restart.
