I'm waiting for someone to rage at him because he logged off near someone... the madness! Or someone to accuse him of "ghosting" by logging in later on the camp... If that doesn't happen, I think the forum might have advanced a level. On the other hand, an interesting story. I like to hear about adventures people have, I know I was all over the place when I had my first long life character and I didn't know the map what so ever, I found all sorts. Now I know what I'm doing I can get fully equipped in like 30 minutes.

Spotted 2 weg members raiding the sw barracks. 1 guy did a hot pickup with a bus. i killed an overwatch knowing that there are only 3 members in the server. 2 were right next to the sw barracks while i was behind the wall.1 of them was watching from under a tree, i take him out and 1 dces and another runs past the bus to possible dc. I have an overwatch member watching the west side of the rax for a possible flank, while i had my eyes on the east to keep them entraped. One of the members who ghosted spawned behind me and killed me. Another member ghosted my overwatch to where he couldnt of possiblly got behind him. Great sportsmanship especially for an admin clan.

Colorado 1 Admin Abuse !!!Dev Server!!!
ebianbluefox replied to danile666's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I do find this kinda distressing, them editing mission files and all. I'm not complaining either but I find it distressing when and admin can abuse the server rules and yet when I ban people for "ghosting" and abusing disconnect I get admins like Dante-Shawn in my TS 3 telling me I can't do that. Don't get me wrong I love what the dayz staff is trying to do and Dante_Shawn was very cool and respecting a person I would support even with his actions against me (I got a little mad but it was in the moment kinda thing) I appreciate the hard work they are doing, but some servers like me pay alot of money to host servers for them and actually care about the community. I know your "proof" has no real time stamps and doesn't show the "restart" you claimed happened or anything so this could have happened before the sidechat changed, but it does bring up a point. I'm not saying your wrong or their wrong, but the evidence doesn't really support your claim. -
US327 kicking non clan members
Vladivar replied to NobleWhale's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Omg aren't you being a lil dense here :D ? Of course I'll play on some other server. And of course I'll report this server as it's clearly breaking the rules set for hosters. Admins have no right to kick anybody to restrict access to their server. Why? Stop being dense and come up with few reasons yourself :D . if i was paying for a server. i think i should be able to do whatever the fuck i want with it. you should be thanking every admin that is hosting/renting a server for you poor bastards to play on. the fact that you can't password protect the servers is complete garbage. whine all you want about locked servers giving "clans" an unfair advantage. locked servers would keep the hax out' date=' which is a bigger issue that's destroying the community. [/quote'] Here's hoping that you're never in a position to admin a server, never mind host one. No, individuals/clans/communities should not have their own private servers connected to the hive. The reasons for this are pretty easy to understand for anyone who cares to engage their brain. Locked servers facilitate unimpeded loot-farming and vehicle hording. This in turn allows the host to transport huge amounts of loot, that they otherwise would'nt have had, into other servers, as well as the ability of ghosting with vehicles. The rules are clear, hosting a server is a donation to the project and development of the mod/game. If you want a locked server, develop your own mod. -
Prevent server hopper : Random location after connected
Vertisce replied to benw's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This whole thread is fail. If you want to fix the ghosting issue and the issue with people logging off or Alt+F4 to avoid conflict or death, you need to fix the logging problem. First off...when somebody logs off, disconnects, times out or whatever...there should be an amount of time in which the character stays in the server. Lets say 1 minute for the sake of argument, although I am all for longer...2-3 minutes. This will deter people from logging or alt+f4 just to get away as their character will still be in game and will likely die. You can argue with me on this all you want...if you do...I will know that you like to cheat and exploit. Secondly...create a relog timer as well. 5 minutes before you can log back onto ANY server after disconnecting from one that you have been playing on for 5 minutes or longer already. This will prevent server hopping. I say "playing on for 5 minutes or more" because there are issues with connecting with servers and if people have to wait for 5 minutes between each attempt at connecting to a new server after getting kicked...well...most people won't play. If people cant take a 5 minute break between logging onto a new server then they need to stop server hopping. If you want to complain about having to wait 5 minutes after a server crash or whatever...get a life. -
Ghosting is down right cheating, we need some kind of battleeye detect.

Admin Abuse US35 banned for ghosting
WildGunsTomcat replied to ShadowWalker's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'm siding with the admins here. Why? Because I've had dealings with this idiot Nasir. Oh and when he says "Ghosting" he means DC'ing. They disconnected during a firefight like pussies. That's what he means. -
Admin Abuse US35 banned for ghosting
Khors replied to ShadowWalker's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Cik and whomever else isn't banned only because he/they weren't killed, and you could 'not' identify them or confirm who they were, because you didn't kill them. You banned team members after you killed them (period). They didn't combat log, and the logs will definitely show that. Lets review them; but you wont because it will show you to be dishonest. So whatever your smoking to blame a team for combat logging when you kill almost the entire team that logged into your server from their camp is silly to say the least. The other member(s) drove your Ural to the beach to share with passer-by's . Again, a fact that can be shown by the logs because I destroyed your Ural at the beach. But again, you won't want anyone else to know or see the logs, because it will show you to be dishonest and that to be fact. You intentionally moved your camp on top of Desolation's location after your camp location was on the mid-eastern map . Desolation never logged on top of your camp; you moved your camp, unbeknownst to Desolation, on top of Desolation the other day so you could conveniently accuse them of ghosting. That, after you cried as to how our camp location was a horrible one and one in which you would never personally chose. So yea, after we always logged into your server from the western part of the map, the only way for you to trump up a false accusation is to move your camp; lol. . .dont know if your members are bored or dumb for making that move. But you did it, not Desolation. So when Desolation logs again into your server from "their" camp location, as was done previously, the first one in on that day was surprised to see that your camp was moved to ghost our location. Desolation didn't ghost you. Again, logs will show that to be true and you to be dishonest, but you wont want to show them, because it will show your lack of integrity and complete lack of honesty. -
Admin Abuse US35 banned for ghosting
ironpython replied to ShadowWalker's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
meta-gaming and ghosting TEAMSPEAK SERVERS is allowed... ghosting servers (ie: moving into position for an iminent attack/ or to steal vehicles etc etc...) is considered exploiting game mechanics which IS PROHIBITED. as far as posting proof on the forums i dont get who you guys think you are lol. psyl3nt said it perfectly. they are following the rules of reporting and anyone not on the dev team has ANY right to demand proof. nor does the dev team NEED to update a thread publicly on actions taken regarding either side of this issue. -

So, to the admin who banned these guys - you are NOT posting proof here? And also - I'm pretty sure that Rocket said Metagaming (including ghosting) is explicitly allowed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I'm remembering that correctly. -
WTF is happening to the server community.
sixbarns replied to Koot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's easier to find a hatchet and run into town and look for someone to kill or a dead body with gear than it is to find it all yourself. That is likely why the tards are taking over. I'm somewhat losing interest in this game atm. Hopefully the next update will fix some of the bigger issues (logging out at first sign of danger, server hopping, ghosting) but the game is far too easy for teams and incredibly rough on loners. If you're not in a clan or with some random guys you somehow can trust, you're at a tremendous disadvantage. That's somewhat real but it makes playing alone a walking-through-the-woods-while-hoping-you-dont-break-a-leg simulator or forces you to throw away life after life hoping to get decent gear off a dead guy in a city. edit: To the guy crying about cursing. Get over it. It's the internet. Feel free to install a word filter if you can't handle it. This is also a game and quite a few people here are going to be immature. Don't write us a book about how you disapprove. -
Multiple characters would be awesome but not if they could influence each other in any way. I bet most people here saying 'who cares about the exploits I want this' will be the people complaining when they get killed by an alt logging in on your position after you've won a fight. Yes, there are exploits already but that doesn't make exploits ok because they normally result in a game which is not as fun as when everybody is sticking to the rules. The idea of each server having it's own database actually sounds really awesome. This would also solve server hopping for loot farming/ghosting so this is a solution that allows multiple characters AND solves some exploits! Sounds like a great compromise to me.

Multiple Characters Possible! Enter Non-HIVE Servers.
humbleuk replied to rinaun's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Tonnes of private servers now, they are infact miles better than "official". I've been playing a proper dedciated one just like you would pay to host one, single private database is way better, 50 players, no lag no desync, no ghosting in and out, people who are at the nw airfield and other loot hotspots earned the right to be there instead of hopping from one server to another, heli's work, some custom civilian vehicles, why bother with official at this point? Just like dayz used to be, playable. I think once some of the official hosts/people who buy servers cotton on to the private system, they will end up with similar setups, the current serve rules are alienating anyone who want to support this mod with official setups anyway. -
Admin Abuse US35 banned for ghosting
Lee-Vilayer replied to ShadowWalker's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hello Everyone, If this user is in the wrong (which i am about to check the logs to get further information) i will take correct action but from what the user has explained to me he has full proof of ghosting taking place. I will then forward any logs of which i find onto the DayZ staff, most people who get found ghosting are more than likely going to kick up a massive fuss about it because they can get globally blacklisted. Please bear in mind that if this goes further the DayZ staff will take full action against the users that are causing issues and ghosting. DayZ staff do know that this is a con-current issue with DayZ and that alot of users are ghosting currently however hopefully within the next couple of releases this issue will no longer exist. -

I'd like this, this would solve some of the problems of ghosting and server hopping, also it'd allow for new maps to be added and such. -
Admin Abuse US35 banned for ghosting
madmaxusmc replied to ShadowWalker's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
We "1/9-WDU" have provided proof to the Day Z staff through the ticket system. We have won some battles and lost some. We welcome aggressive action against us. That's why we are a military realism unit. A few days ago we lost 6 men in an engagement, our tents were crushed, and our vehicles destroyed. We lost everything. No one was banned and the subject wasn't even discussed. In fact, ShadowWalker ET AL has the fine distinction of being the first group of players to banned for gratuitous exploiting. Our server is a tough but fair environment. We hold our own clan members to the same standard. Our first clan rule addresses this very situation. You can see that at http://wdu.enjin.com/handbook You and your friends might want to realize that there are people who play this game because they enjoy the challenge. We don't want to cheat, we don't want everything to come easy. The fun is getting the gear, defending it, and learning from each loss. The fact that you lost 4 men even though you clearly exploited is a testament to the skill of the individuals on sentry duty at the time. These men will be awarded medals and accolades accordingly. It doesn't prove anything about whether or not you where ghosting. As I said before, you and your friends are banned from our server unless the Day Z staff says otherwise. If they overrule our ban then you will be allowed back on immediately. -
Dallas 48 [TOP- BR] Admin Abuse
LeOverlord replied to gen.jax@gmail.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
False your not allowed to kick/ban anyone that doesn't follow server rules, only those who break DayZ rules, which is hacking / ghosting / DC to avoid death, any other reason is not a valid. -
ghosting... banning for this you are on shakey ground at the best of times. reason for this? there are multiple reasons someone may log in on top of you and attack you. 1. person logged off and just happened to log in on your face 2. person saw you comming logged off and logged back in once you were closer to kill you 3. person had a spotter watching you and told them when to log in. 4. person logged off in another server and logged on in your one and just happened to log in on top of you. the problem with the above is... well lets face it. some are simply random chance. an admin is probably going to assume you ghosted if you land on him while logging in and kill him. simple as that. its an admins job to enforce rules so they will assume your breaking them if it happens to them. in this case. your best bet is to appeal directly to said admin and ask for them to review the logs. chances are if the admin cannot find proof they will unban you. if they do not pony up logs though... they need to unban you because that there is just bad adminnery. easy ways to spot ghosting would be to use logs to check logging times. if a player has not logged into your server before and lands on you and kills you? yeah. you cant ban em. if a player logged off 10-15 minutes ago. chances are they either toilet breaked or saw you comming, you can probably ban. if a player logged off some time ago and just logged in on top of you. chances are its random chance you cant ban em. someone really needs to post an accurate guideline for banning for hopping/ghosting.

I tend to side with the people with the most forum posts in these situations until proof is provided. its just like people caught red handed to jump on the forums and start crying about getting caught when they finally get whats comming to them. also ghosting is a counterstrike/fps term for spectating or using other game mechanics to observer the oponents without them being able to do anything about it. this can be using people on thier own team, people who are dead and spectating or in the case of dayz presumably some kind of server hopping to land on your enemies. which sounds about right. one guy watches to tell the group of 4 when to jump. 4 jump in and kill as many as possible. spotter comes in and mops up and steals what he can. looks like the OP told us everything we needed to know in the first post :P -

I had a great time when you guys assaulted us, gave me some action on my sentry duty :D But I did see two of you spawn right in our camp and it was obvious that you were well prepared before even joining the server. I love how the guy with the Bizon spawned in the tree night next to me and started open fire on one of our team mates straight away. I had lots of fun, got to shoot down three of you before you got me. But you were ghosting and you know it's wrong. -
Simple Solution to Loot Farming via Server Hopping
Fengerth replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As good as this solution is intended, this will cause just as much problems as it will fix server hopping (and people will still do it, even with the limitations). I have a feeling once the mod is more optimized for servers to hold more people that characters may become server locked. This completely fixes the server hopping as well as ghosting to some extent (people will still dc duing fights, however they won't be able to hop on another server to circle around you to ambush you). This can also lead to a more community driven experience as it will encourage you to have a home server. Obviously this comes at some slight disadvantages, like maybe you don't like the day/night aspect of the mod (although tbh there is nothing from stopping you having 2 chars with 2 home servers, one during the day and one during the night etc) and ofc maybe your home server could be full (again having 2 home servers or more prevent this to some extent). Unfortunaly any online game that doesn't have server limited chars with multiple servers will have this exploit to contend with in one way or another. It is still in alpha so lets be patient, see what happens and hope for server locked chars in the future. -
Ghosting is when you server hop to move positions.
-
Thanks for the heads up, Zomboy! People disconnecting during PvP and/or ghosting will get a temporary ban on US 38, but there's nothing we can do about your situation without proof. I wouldn't expect anyone to run around with Fraps on all the time though so I guess any proper evidence is hard to come by. There are around 15 regulars on that server from www.neogaf.com and a couple of us are active admins so keep letting us know if you come up with more information.
