I play DayZ with a friend regularly, and we are keen to make ourselves a camp with a few vehicles and start helping people. Any suggestions on how to go about this? Specifically suggestions for vehicles, almost every server we go to has no more vehicles since the larger clans have taken them. We found some on NZ 22, but that entire server has been hacked. How do you guys go about finding them, and when you do how long does it take you to get them up and running?

Well, if anything, griefers and exploiters are the same, they use game mechanics for unfair advantages through meta-gaming or bugs, they are part of the problem, however through bug fixes they can be fought the real problem about the "hackers" is, that most of them can not be reasoned with, they only want to make people unhappy and feel great because of their unfair attained power, they are little internet psychopaths in my terms, since they also use tools and programs for it wit the exact aim of making other people feel bad the normal day exploiter and griefer has its use in DayZ: It may seem unfair some griefer found your camp by TS spieing and took everything he could carry, destroying the rest, but thats part of the game, vehicles respawn and the collecting continues exploiting carries on like a sickness that makes you stronger: everyone hearing about an exploit normally uses exploits to keep up with other players, but once the exploits are dealt with, they have to learn how to play all over again without them, making it harder for them in the end, making it harder and later easier for legit players to beat them the hacker however is bored by the game fast, since he can have everything with a single command, so the only thing left is to hurt other players however, since your hacker-type personality seems to not be able to live with a defeat, maybe they cant handle them in real life either, they turn into sadistic demi-gods, only stopped through a private hive or a global ban, and eventually stop playing or re-buying the game, since its so boring -
You said you already found and kicked the hacker, yet you proceed to kick another innocent player and shut down the server to protect your assets. It's very much possible to retrieve the hacker's GUID from the logs and add it to the ban list without bringing the server down. Also, with the modern versions of the BE bypasses they hardly show up in the logs anyway. A simple server restart to reset possibly teleported vehicles to their last saved locations would have been sufficient. I'm sorry you feel utterly victimized by having a hacker on your server, that surely never happened to me or any other server admin around. You do however seem to bend the rules to your will so you can protect, repair and retrieve your chopper. I like how you mentioned "accusing me of admin abuse" even though I never brought that up in the first place, but that must just be your nagging conscious. Report the guy to the CBL and be done with it.

not bad I about do the same but a bit different, unlike those HERO hackers that spawn a box for people in high traffic areas (don't let me find you there because I get rid of the box and players). What I tend to do is usually just kill some bandits and direct communication to any close by survivor (if your in a bandit skin/camo/ghillie I'll just end up killing you as well). When I find vehicles near tents with high powered rifles and other military supplies I destroy them and find other tents with low value rifles that people store like enfields/winchester/makarov/cz 550 and load it with the goodies I looted from other tents and bandits. SO for those of you who found new items in your tents your welcome and don't worry about it if you see some blown up tents near you I tend to destroy the other tents =). You can find me always near elektro/cherno killing snipers and bandits killing survivors/new spawns. NOTE: I use different names and never the one I'm using that I post with -

I have played legit and used hacks. I played legit for a few months, did virtually everything possible as a solo player in the game. Personally I feel the end-game lacks some depth and let's be honest there is an inordinate amount of time spent in this game looking at loading screens and running through trees. As this game has become more popular it's changed from a small but nice community of dedicated individuals to a screaming horde of jerks. This is an inevitable consequence of the game's popularity (small town -> large city analogy) now that it has over 1 million players. With those new players came several hacks and given how much this game engine trusts client side information we were told it would be impossible to fix. So my motivation was a combination of having exhausted most of the legit content in the game and sheer frustration at constantly (more than once per day) being script killed or tele killed by a hakcer and losing all my gear for no goddam reason. So I did some homework and found out how to safely drop myself some guns and locate vehicles to try and inject some more fun and fairness back into the game experience. (It was that or sit around playing DotA2 waiting for standalone). All I do is find vehicles, repair them and give them to or give rides to friendly players. Occasionally I will give them a M1911 if they are unarmed. I try not to ruin anyone's game experience, if they are happy rumaging through the Empty Cans of Kamenka doing some PVE then cool. Most of the people I meet have been killed several times by hackers and are thankful for the help (spawning in Kamenka sucks until a bloke with a Motorbike turns up and gives you some beans). The only players I've killed with hacks are other hackers who just like to tele/kill others because they are idiots. Oh and I'm not a script kid. I am a 26 year old full-time coder/graphic artist and I don't live with my mum :P So what does that make me? :huh: (inb4 die scum I hope you get AIDs etc etc) -
1 week old public hive server no chopper (VILAYER)

except that there has been no choper ever on our server VILAYER did setup our server with 1.7.2.3 and after we saw this we order it to change it to the latest version, withou even realizing what vehicles spawned we need help pronto! -
US 1069 11:05 PM Eastern 9/23/2012 In this video, there are three separate VoIP conversations happening at once: 1. The primary conversation between Killer101 and myself 2. the irrelevant background conversation between Chris and Acrasial (who are in a separate TeamSpeak server) 3. the relevant in-game VoIP between Killer101 and the hacker, Gpeck (we can only hear Killer's side of this conversation, per TeamSpeak) Our helicopter had been stolen. We were pretty sure it was an honest steal and we knew for certain that it was stolen by John. We were in the process of hunting John when Killer101 spotted the chopper in Elektro. Killer then reports that somebody else is there, and starts asking him questions. I tell Killer to just kill him. Killer reports shooting the player in the head multiple times without success. Killer then makes the judgement that the player is hacking, but is unable to identify the player because our server has no nameplates. I'm the server admin, so I decide to kick every unfamiliar player serially until the one in front of Killer disappears. I try to start this process, but then, for some reason, the player wants to teleport me to the site. Killer tells the player my name, and then I'm teleported to the scene. I resume the process of serially kicking players, and the first try is lucky. Gpeck is kicked and the identified hacker contemporaneously disappears. Afterward, another player appears and attacks us, but I have no reasonable suspicion that he was hacking. I kicked him and shut down the server to be safe. I found Gpeck's GUID in the server log and added him to my ban list. Gpeck's GUID: df0217dc42857fe8e494137b4f396d36 EDIT: I have no reasonable suspicion now that the second player was hacking, but at the end of the video I was working with really sketchy details. I didn't shut down the server to protect the vehicles, I shut it down to stop the hackers from returning before I could ban them. -Joker

I just got my private hive setup but i'm blown away by some of these server controls. I have no idea how to really use phpmyadmin and i dont know how to change any of the server variables like spawns for vehicles etc... Can anyone help me out with this? What is the point in being able to look at my map with vehicle spawn locations and i'm able to move the vehicles around the map but they dont spawn? I went this route because i wanted more control so i can have more vehicles and people get more access so i can have a bigger community. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Once they lock down the edges of the map, vehicles will be impossible to hoard and gamers will get a serious reality check. But for now the map is 25 by 25 kilometers with 15 by 15 kilometers covered by actual 3D models.

My review of the server : Played here for about 8 hours, saw a few people and when it got dark the server died. No big deal, this is a norm for servers like this as people just don't want to play in the dark. I went up to the Northwest Airfield and began running around looking for what I could find. Gathered some decent gear but I was always plagued with a constant red chain and sometimes yellow chain. Sometimes this was because people were loading into the server, other times it just happened for no reason. There were times when I lost signal to the server but this happened maybe once, other times the server just stuttered. Community seemed pretty decent but the server isn't running on a 'server' computer and you can tell. It feels like it is running off a home PC that barely meets specs and the delay between kills and such shows it. I ran a constant 70 - 73 MS on the server and given the delay I experienced with that and the fact the server just seemed to run slowly, I moved on. All in all, small community of good people and a lot of vehicles for you to find if you want. -
I was wondering if there was anyway to reset a server so all tents and vehicles are restored to a fresh server? I have replaced all my hive files, dayz server files, mission files but nothing has worked. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

in the last few days ive stumbled upon several vehicles/helos full of loot.. all ended poorly for said loot/vehicles and sometimes me.. BOOM !!!!... including driving one vehicle off the map and getting thrown 1000ft into the air.. went back to try to see what happened and got chucked in the air again, haahaha... (Takistan). those poor guys who left that mint condition Osprey mustnt have been to happy to find it gone. (its impacted into the side of a mtn btw).. after this weekends epic vehicle-a-pooloza, i can safely say im better off on foot. when i get a vehicle i seem to turn into a fool and drive around doing stupid things that end up getting me killed. hahaahha -

basically this is how dayz is at the moment..... public servers even uk01 hackfest. within 1 hr hackers are on every server duping doing whatever. ask anyone who actually runs a server the amount of scripts that are illegal being tried or executed on there server. if they honest theyll tell you its a night mare also alot of people are using web pluggins to see what everyone has got what loot is where what vehicles and so on. so basically deemed the game pointless. so... alot moved to private servers but alot of admins abuse this aswell so you have to way up do you except the hackers or play with admins on private servers who spawn the good stuff in locations they want and reset server when they lose it ? basically hopefully this is dealt with in standalone but tbh i dont see how it can be. the core of the game will still be the same despite the bablle from others in next few posts. the game is a arma mod tweaking or whatever it will still be a arma mod call it 2.5 engine or blue dogshit it will be a arma mod at end of dayz . game was built on the wrong engine in th first place and i think rocket knows this and is trying to mould something which will make the game work with out the pitfall of what arma is a scripters heaven.

Well, just today I Kicked/Banned 6 people for teleporting. Two of them did the magnet thing and pulled most of the vehicles to them way up north. One actually had to audacity to teleport ME and then run screaming like a little girl when he realized what he had done. I also banned several people for hacked weapons. No it hasn't gotten any better.

Sorry to hear your story. We have been with ViLayer for a few months now, and all I can say is.. "WOW" you couldn't be more wrong. The Customer support is GREAT... they have a ticket system, as well as a Teamspeak server to deal with questions or problems. They have the best servers money can buy, the performance is amazing compared to the 3 other hosting companies we had tried before ViLayer. ViLayer has created quite a few maps for DayZ.. also many options for you as a server owner to utilize. Time changer,Amount of vehicles that spawn, Public or Private option for each map with separate databases for each. Without ViLayer, our clan...along with many others i assure you... would no longer play this game. They have made DayZ fun again... and added a good amount of admin friendly options as well. -

Don´t play here if you happen to steal a vehicle or kill any one that belong to the server squad you will get banned! My story : Helped these guys build their camp and vehicles in the first few days, went to refuel the chooper with one of these noob he just stood there when I was refueling and left a zombie knock me down and leave me at 2.5k blood...no blood bag or food for me....get the chooper back to camp they say. I warned them I could crash on the way to camp due to passing out and I could barely see, the landing zone was in small area in the middle of trees, it would take me at least 2 minutes to make such landing I decide to land the chooper in a big open field taking in mind that the chooper might slide down hill so the team pilot came from the camp and said he would take care of it...still no blood bag for me I abort to dine. I come back later and I am acussed to be a muppet and shit because the noob and the "pro" pilot quickfire left the chooper lide down hill. I tell them I will get the items to repair it and they shoot me I happen to have a grenade and a l85 I kill the backstabbing motherfuckers and steal their UAZ! I am now banned. Funny thing is I wasted these bastards with 2.5k blood with a pass out during the process whos the noob now ? Ass: Super Vegeta -
I don't know who this guy is (random friend of a teammate) but he claims to be hacking, teleporting players and vehicles around / using godmode. I haven't played DayZ in a while and I don't have it installed so I can't get their server info or anything. Can you use their client address ip in TS to ban them from DayZ?

So, was perusing the forums, had a minor idea strike me when visiting some threads about cars and how rare they are. It makes sense, as most people would have attempted to turn tail and flee in their vehicles once the outbreak started, and, most working cars since the initial wave of panic would have been dismantled or taken as well. But, obviously, that wouldn't work so very well, now would it? Not with everyone trying to crowd the highway all at once. We've seen it in countless zombie movies and games, where there are highways just utterly packed with stuck cars, all with nice little morsels stuck in their cars until the zombie can openers get there. Ahem. So my suggestion is this: Have a large stretch of highway packed with stuck cars. I'm not suggesting any of these cars be drivable, right off the spot. They should have to be repaired, as they would most likely have all been picked apart by scavengers. If we had that many immediately drivable cars spawn at once, well, Twisted Metal: DayZ, anyone? There should be little to none in the way of military or weaponized vehicles. They would have been the very first to go, either to scavengers or the military that would have tried to establish a presence, and as such would not be still at the highway. This is for both realism and practical gameplay reasons. What I am suggesting is it would be just one different area to explore, filled with your typical, shambling zeds, rife with spots to be picked off by bandits, and ample spawns of loot from inside the cars and around them. There could be many many dead bodies inside and beside vehicles, as I'm sure there would have been many dying inside their cars. Also, as a fun and completely different scenario, perhaps someone infected could be trapped in a car, and if you're not paying attention, they could jump out and attack you. The area itself should have rows of cars all stuck as if lunch hour had just struck in a major city. Lunch hour for zombies anyway. Plenty of wrecks would break up the monotony of rows of vehicles. There should be little to none buildings around, as this was a highway, not an apartment row. Perhaps some semi trailers, both capsized and still upright, could be still entered, and have loot spawns. It would also be the spot where you find the most vehicle parts in the game. Now, yes, most parts would already have been scavenged, and it should reflect that, with some cars stripped to the frames, others on cinder blocks, etc. But there is a likelihood that some of the cars weren't deemed good enough to loot, or they were just missed. I'm suggesting over fifty cars here at the minimum. Even a large group would be hard pressed to need that many car parts. You would also be able to loot some fuel from the cars, but this would be in very small quantities. Those cars would have idled there forever, and likely would have been drained for the most part by people way back when. Additional Ideas: Addetter has suggested as an alternative, should there not be space in the new map for it, or even a companion, to have a large overpass type stretch of highway that spans a small gap of the ocean, perhaps leading to an island out in the ocean, if it is still included. You can read posts numbers 34 and 35 for more details and a small representation of the idea. Ruins: With the ability to create bases for persistent use, I think it would be great for them to slowly fall into disrepair, making it necessary to continually gather supplies to fix up barricades, expand and reinforce the base, and add features to it. The tedium and effort it would require would certainly balance out the game-changing benefits that bases would provide. It should happen more quickly when a player is around, as a constant, quick decay would be somewhat heavy handed towards non-active players. But it should still happen, albeit on a slower rate. The logic for this is that your bases aren't going to be built with heavy equipment and the necessary supplies to make them last, and while in your base it would make sense that the zeds are still trying to get in. They'd tear down boards, probably claw at anything they could, and generally make a mess of things, while trying to get at a player within the base. When the player isn't there, or able to be sensed by the zeds, then they'd leave, more than likely. If buildings reach a critical point where it can't remain standing, it should fall over, or a wall should cave in, the roof collapses, you get the idea. I'd love to be able to find weapons lockers in the remains of a base, stock up on food from this place's personal stash, water, and other supplies. Some supplies and weaponry could be damaged from the collapse as well, ensuring that some of the item tables are taken off of the server, if only until someone finds the exact item in a new spawn. Collapsed buildings also should be somewhat repairable, and could provide a decent alternative to finding, supplying, and building your own base. --- Anywho. Positive and negative thoughts are always welcome, and suggestions to build onto this would be appreciated. As suggestions are in no short supply, to avoid a massive wall of update text, I have hidden it via spoiler tags for your eye's pleasure. I do suggest reading them, as they do contribute much to what could be a very fun site. Edited with a few new area suggestions. And bumped for new input from fresh eyes.
