At first I was gonna write a "get shot here beacon" but after reading, that is actually quite a cool idea. I think it should only apply to specific vehicles though (the military ones) and maybe other like a police car (if they are introduced) Otherwise +1 OP :)

When I find a vehicle, all its parts are in the red and it needs a lot of work to get it running. I often replace the fuel tank, the engine, and most or all of the wheels, plus some scrap metal to strap onto the frame to hold the whole thing together. It's in bad shape, is what I'm saying, but it can be salvaged. Then, a couple km down the road, some jerk puts three 12.7mm bullets or a half-magazine of 5.45 AK ammo through it and it's a flaming hulk, totally unsalvageable. What the actual fuck? It should be possible to disable vehicles by shooting them, absolutely. It should also be possible to repair vehicles that have been disabled by gunfire. This GTA kablooie vehicle health needs to go. Finding cars at their spawns and being able to fix them is great. Finding shot-up cars by the side of the road and being able to fix them up would also be great. Just boost the "hull" by about 1000%. Shooting at a car would disable it in the normal amount of time/shots, then you'd see the passengers pile out and the fight would be resolved in the normal way. At that time, the car would still be enterable, the car's inventory would still be accessible, and the car could still be patched up as usual. Maybe it takes some more scrap metal to get the hull back up to 100%, but it doesn't magically transform into a flaming wreck that's no good to anybody. This would reduce the number of cars at regular spawns, but having a car that's in the red in one or more categories respawn in its default derelict state after just two days, regardless of saving, could get around that handily.

I don't think taking anything out would improve DayZ, but If the anti materiel rifles are ever going to be used as intended 12.7 ammo will have to be made rare as fuck, and vehicles shouldn't explode/burn up when you burst the engine block (that only happens in Lethal Weapon films anyway. AFAIK) That and make the kickback more jarring so a miss is more costly. It would probably be easier to hit a 2M wide truck first time than a 0.5M wide person. I think that would encourage snipers to use anti personnel weapons against um... personnel. -
Lojack is the most popular but it sends out radio signals (chirps) not a satellite signal. To communicate with the satellite your tracker needs a gps antenna to broadcast a signal 22,000 miles into space which requires a good deal of power also (and is visible on the car). Realize that the satellite in orbit sends out signals but they are positioning and time, not usually messages. The satellite would have to be reprogrammed to send out the location of vehicles. Sorry if this sounds like trolling. Maybe make it where you can acquire a radio and track the car via the chirp signals? <---- Seven years of satellite communications. EDIT: GPS satellites are 6 to 12,000 miles, my bad.

Truth be told, I'd be in favor of a Chernarus+ with no US military presence, where you're packing Nagants, hunting rifles and the odd AK at top level gear status. Too much gun going around, really. The .50s are dumb, I say. Lose 'em. As others have said, there's a very satisfying sniper experience to be had with the .30-caliber rifles in the game, and the big dumb guns just allow jerks to be jerks more effectively. Yes, Alt-F4 is a problem, but a guy alt-F4ing out of your sniper scope is no more unfair than a guy alt-F4ing out of my shotgun's sight or out from under my hatchet. Fixing Alt-F4 is important, and one-hit sniper rifles are not fixing it, so stop trying to make the two discussions more closely related than they really ought to be. If I found a server with no .50cal rifles or thermal/night vision (except rangefinders, that's legit), more common vehicles and parts to fix them, and a private hive with good admins and a monthly hive wipe, I'd be willing to pay a subscription for that version of DayZ. The game has an awful lot to offer, and even when you take into account duping, you can fix most of that problem by either removing items wholesale or making them more common to begin with. -
Had an idea for a vehicle location tracker. Rare military loot spawn "Tracking Device." Takes 1 or 2 main inventory slots. Install to vehicle like a repair item, then it disappears from inventory, and a locator appears on your toolbelt. You must have a GPS + the locator on your toolbelt and the vehicle you installed the tracking device on shows up on your map. Only the player with the locator linked to that vehicle could track it. Could have multiple locators on your toolbelt for different vehicles. To remove a tracking device you must repair the engine of the vehicle (need to tear apart engine compartment to find it). Then you get an option to Remove Tracking Device when you scroll through vehicle options. This way you can track a vehicle stolen from your camp or left as bait, but the thief still has a way to remove tracking if he spends enough time on it. What do you think?

What's wrong with "bandits" in this game?

Snipers on hills "camping" spawns are different from the many bandits you find. Most bandits will shoot you from in order to steal your things. These bandits accelerate the speed in which they gain high tier items, by murdering those who have them often while those players are at a significant disadvantage. I.E. a player looting a building for food/car parts, shot in the back of the head. The insane people up on the hills who murder for beans'n'giggles, often times skipping the beans and going straight to the giggles, are just that, insane. They really don't deserve the title of bandit, they probably need something more along the lines of "sociopathic murderer", and those players deserve a bullet to the brain. I personally am a "Hero" but I tend to use the term loosely (BOOOOOOO, a HERO at the BANDIT campfire, yeah, I get it). I consider myself more of a thief, and while you ask what the hell I'm talking about, and that I just said I was a hero, think of this: Why bother with the murdering? I tend to skip the step of murdering someone and skip ahead to the looting. Those snipers up on Electro's hills? I sneak up behind them, take everything in their packs, and place a bear trap behind them. Those bandits I just saw leaving their camp in an off-road pickup and an ATV? Take everything I can carry from their tents and run off with it, after having dumped all the items out of them, saving the tent, then razing it with a satchel charge. That or popping all of the wheels on the vehicles if they're not around, then taking all of their spare tires. The "Heroism" (I really hate that word) of it comes from what I do with it afterward. A good portion of the items I take from you bandits gets given to the survivors on the shorelines. EDIT: Back when I rolled with a bandit group, our most common strategy was to loot another group's camp, kill whoever was guarding it, and then lace the tent zone with all of the satchel charges their tents had. We'd wait in a nearby treeline until the remainder of the group came back now that their (dead) guard alerted them through Vent or Skype or something. We blew the satchel charges, killed the still living using the one member who had our group's L85, and loot the corpses. Dealing with those snipers is simple, outsmart them. Get behind them, and one makarov round is sufficient to earn yourself a helluva alot of loot. -
As the server had only been online for 3-4 hours when ALL the vehicles disappeared then I doubt it is hoarders. This is more than likely a hack script (imo) that has removed the vehicles from playable areas.

Leave please, the spawns are. Fine as they are, great loot run from Kamenka and many vehicles spawn at and around Slonichy, thus i think their fine as they are.

Started playing on this server this evening, been OK so far, bar the one guy who shot me up in the cowshed for no reason. Having difficulty finding any proper vehicles, I think there may be some hoarders playing on this server lol, but I'm determined to sniff out your wilderness camps! -

Yes, our server has been around for 2.5 months. It has had vehicles before. But it seems around the time we upgraded to 1.7.2.6, they started to not spawn. -

AFAIK It should take 7-10 days for servers to spawn vehicles on new servers. 3 weeks sounds wrong. -
Hackers favourite killjoy tactic recently has been to teleport to vehicles and fuck them up this forum seems to suggest.

Yes, you read the title right. The server we run, US 1211 for the past 3 weeks has had 0 vehicles. The first week we thought someone hid them very well and didn't think much of it. The second week we tried combing the whole western and northern areas. The third week we just gave up. Our server is spawning ZERO vehicles. Also, today a hacker came on our server, teleported 2 of our members to a location and just started talking with them. After he saw they were admins of the server, he apologized and said he wouldn't cause any trouble. Our admins took this opportunity to ask the hacker if he could see if there were any vehicles on the server. He said he saw zero and thought that was very weird. He spawned our admins a hacker box (which our members blew up with satchel charges) and he left. I put in a support ticket to get our vehicle respawns reset but have no heard anything yet. Anything else I can do? The server is tied to the HIVE. -
I recently rented a server for DayZ (US 3105) and initially there were vehicles, then during normal server operation (not after a restart/crash) ALL the vehicles have disappeared. I'm guessing that this is not a @Hive issue but rather a hacker teleporting all the vehicles to another location. I'm wondering if the public @Hive has any plans to fix this, eg a nightly check to replace/restore missing vehicles etc, or should I cancel my server rental and go with a @bliss server instead? I understand that DayZ is in Alpha but that does not take away from the fact that I am $35 p/m down for a server that has no vehicles. Cheers.

I got a pretty good Fallujah server, search "Fallout" in the filter and join the one saying "The Fallout Shelter". Usualy 1-3 active admins on, updated BattlEye, combat loggers are banned, veteran, 3rd person, side chat and many many vehicles. -

So apparently a hacker comes on this server and starts teleporting to people and killing them. Well, I had just logged in (after getting teleported with a broken leg to debug forest) and was running around in my first town gathering gear when Kyle (2) says over the chat : Yo why you teleporting around killing people dick? Kyle says : Whoa there's another Kyle on the server? Me : There's a hacker on the server? Kyle (2) : Yeah he's teleporting around killing people. Me: Why do I have to join servers with hackers. Why can't I find a server with a nice hacker? Furthermore, why can't this hacker give me NVG's, it's freaking dark. You have been kicked by the admin. [Dick] You have been banned from the server. [Dick] Nice admin, no research about who the hacker was and just decides to ban me because he hasn't got a clue who the real hacker is. Super! Another server I won't be wasting my time on :P I would be impressed to hear the admins side of the story, because had he did any research he would have seen I had been on the server for about... 7 minutes. Tops. -

I 17 and I live in Toronto, ON and I'm looking to start a group with some fellow player. I've been playing with a buddy of mine for a few months now and we are really looking to expand our group, focus more on vehicles, setting up camps and maybe even some sniping pvp. We are both VERY well geared, I have an AS50 and an M9SD while he has an M24. Anybody close to our time zone is welcome, we don't discriminate whatsoever but it would be really cool if we could get someone with piloting experience because me nor my buddy have any experience in that part of the game. We are currently on the outskirts of Cherno if that makes a difference to anyone. We don't have a specific server that we play on but, if we get enough people we will definitely try to set up camp on a specific server. If any of you are interested at all please leave a skype name or an email through which I could contact you. We want to take as many people as possible so there are no limits! Hopefully at least 1 of you will respond to this! Thanks again! -

I didnt know a server rollback would negate the saving of any vehicles. Between this incident and the previous one involving the heli crash site I thought you had it out for me and was singling me out for no reason. Yes I called you a sociopath but I dont feel like I blew up at you and instead told you why I felt I had been slighted. I think Drizzt saw your admins turning against me when it certainly appeared (whether true or not) that I was being ganged up on and tried to stick up for me, when no on else would. Drizzt and I spend a lot of time on the server and thats why it is upsetting to see what on the surface looks like a server owner abusing his power to get back at a regular who is only using in-game tactics to battle you and your well defended base. This has all clearly been an embarrasing misunderstanding caused by some of us not fully understanding the server rollback vs restart mechanics and I think it would be a sign of goodwill and maturity to let Drizzt back in the server especially considering he was only trying to do what he thought was the right thing to do given the information he had at hand. -

He had a KSVK? How is that possible, I thought it wasn't even possible to get your hands on it with scripts, guess I was wrong. (For all those who don't play Arma, the KSVK is similar to the AS50 but it is incredibly more effective against vehicles)
