Hardly matters.Your shit will likely disappear and you'll spawn on the coast next login anyway. (am I a tad cynical?) But seriously. The game got a lot more fun when I stopped caring about tents/vehicles or guns. Picked up a 1911 and an enfield, then mixed it up in Cherno, meeting others, shooting only bandits, etc.

... No. I dont want balance, but there is no need for a single vehicle that can give dominance over a map. Even as the proud owner of almost a dozen of them, I still agree to this Its not just air dominance, it dominance over the air and the ground, particularly against other vehicles. As above. I dont believe every one of them has two mounted m240 machine guns, however. This isnt simply a balance thing, its also because the LB is more enjoyable to fly.

Can admins see what weapon you are using?
dolph replied to Alzi's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If you can decipher the logs, you're good to go. Load outs, positions, vehicles, tents. It's a lot easier to maintain control once that's figured out. A good admin knows how to obtain information, a better admin knows to NOT exploit that information. I haven't seen any funny business in my server for over a week. -
I had so many friends buy Arma to play DayZ but dropped it like a bad habit. I too was extremely disappointed with DayZ at first, I had watch video after video before pulling the trigger, I really thought I knew what I was getting into. Then I started playing and couldn't believe how many assumptions I really made about this game. I could not believe that only a handful of buildings could be entered. I had no idea that the biggest cities were at the bottom of the map and were rarely traveled by anyone looking to experience survival or live past their first 45 min. Where were these camp fires full of players? What do you mean I cant use a flashlight or chem light because Ill just get griefed every time? But the unforgiving death system, survival theme, and realistic game play kept me pushing and pushing to figure it out, I knew there was something about this game I was going to love if I could just find it. Eventually I meet a good group players and joined their clan, they showed me the ropes and helped me learn my way around DayZ and Chernarus. That spark of hope ignited once again, but after a couple weeks the constant hacking, duping, ghosting, and saving bugs extinguished that flame almost as fast as it was lit. So I quit, in fact, so did most of the clan. We kept throwing around discussions like "is it worth it to keep the server until standalone?". Some members even began looking at the WarZ as a better product (I know right?). Then one day I get a message from a clan buddy "hey man, we are playing Lingor island. You should come check it out, its pretty fun". At first Im thinking meh what ever, just another DayZ map full of disappointment. It took me close to 3 weeks after Lingor released to install it, it took another 3 days before I even played it. I regret wasting those 3 weeks and 3 days.... I was and still am completely blown away at how much the Lingor map is what DayZ Chernarus SHOULD be. Multiple cities and not just on one side of the map. 99% of all buildings can be entered. Tons more vehicles and a larger variety of vehicles, frigging boats and bi-planes man! Interesting and diverse terrain from desert to jungle to marsh. Private hive to combat the simple exploits like ghosting and alt+F4, which are far more frustrating than a script kiddie playing thunder dome. I found that bugs had been fixed that were ever present in Chernarus like vehicle storage, military flashlights, swimming in water, and probably a few more I cant think of off the top of my head. Zombies are actually a real threat, there are so many buildings you forget which ones have a back exit and which ones are a death trap! You also get a little cocky and because you fool yourself into thinking you can always run and hide, but sometimes you get swarmed in a bad place. This has made fighting Zombies fun, not just an annoyance. Then there are the players, you have no idea who is where. Far to many places to hide, you'll never know if you might run into someone. The airfields are not the only places to get military loot, its all over the map! Gone are the days of spending all my time in one of two airfields. Once I began playing Lingor Island I was hooked and when I say hooked I'm talking World of Warcraft hooked. I finally found it, the DayZ that I wanted to play from the start. I even have a few of those friends, with a little effort, who are now playing because they too were expecting Lingor Island when they began playing DayZ. 3 weeks later I purchased a hosted VM and launched my own Lingor Server and i just cant get enough! I can only hope that the Chernarus' update for Standalone can be as good as Lingor Island because if it wasn't for Lingor Id probably would have bought and be playing Panda's! So I'd like to extend my gratitude to the private hive community. Lingor Island is full of WIN and I look forward to continuing to host and promote Lingor Island as the way to play DayZ, especially for those who think DayZ sucks because they too were disappointed with the current official map. Thanks for reading.

HOWTO: Use publicvariableval.txt to auto-kick players with hacked weapons
xxblink replied to venthos's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Can someone explaing the publicvariableval-local to me? Also, I took out the car horn and the bike horn after two of my clan were kicked while in vehicles. I double checked their inventory in the logs and they weren't carrying anything out of bounds. -
Nice to see you talking about my server sir, its just a shame your always on the teamspeak channel (joke). As for the tents showing, when we set up a regular restart when we first got it, the server wasnt spawning tents and vehicles. We shortly figured out it was because of the restart, so now we have binned the restart and we actually stop and start the server ourselves.

SurviveDayZ Mod - More Difficult & Extensive DayZ | v1.2
ALiborio replied to ryahn's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
On the topic of loot. During my couple hours of playing yesterday: Loot was a bit more scarce than usual. Started in Kamenka so not much loot there normally. Went through a bunch of the industrial buildings and they had a few vehicle parts and that was about it. Seems normal, anything else was probably taken by another player. Balota airfield was pretty scarce as well, only found an assault pack in the tower, hangers were empty. Military camp near Balota was decent, found an AK and some random ammo for various guns. Cherno supermarket was bare besides a body in the back room. Firestation was also empty. Pubs mostly had loot. Hospitals didn't have medical box out back (may be intended as there was boxes inside) Military tents, one had loot and the other didn't have anything. Apartments small one near hospital had loot. Three large ones had absolutely nothing. Other small one had just a tent. I do like the slightly harder difficulty. Having to find my first backpack made it a bit more rewarding. More zombies around made me more cautious when going into town (playing like I did when I first played). Knowing that I have much less chance of being sniped in Cherno while trying to gear up was nice, could focus on watching my surroundings for zombies and other people instead of just running cause stopping anywhere was instant death. Night was real dark, but giving a player blue chemlights isn't bad as they have a pretty short visible range from what I could see. Didn't get to play around with many of the other features like vehicles loaded into other vehicles which sounds pretty cool. EDIT: Forgot about the new skins. Found a suit which made my character look pretty damn sharp. Also the fact that ghillies and camo aren't really residential spawns anymore make more sense. Most people wouldn't have such clothing in their homes but suits and other clothes would be there. -
Time to share things about ammo :D
Oompa replied to Elite Skydaz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
M9 SD, M4 SD and AS50... I just stalk players and when I get a clear shot I get them either with the M4 or the AS50. It's amazing how many people do not look around... I get all the ammo/food/supplies from the victim or their vehicles and tents. -
My mostly stupid and probably repeated suggestions for DayZ standalone [Part 1]

Travelling circus !! Finally an excuse to have some serious predators roaming around !! Maybe an elephant that charges vehicles on sight. That would be sweet for standalone. -
SWC-DayZ - new private hive server looking for players
jsour replied to kainelderan's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'm one of the players on this server and I have only good things to say about this server. Oh no, wait. There was one complain. It was Joshie and his crew (Brone and few other people). They were constantly harassing, insulting and flaming over chat. Majority of players simply wanted them to be removed. What's more, they were told several times on the forum (who knows how many times through PMs) what they were banned for. They simply carried on with their nonsense and acted like it was all new to them. Besides, soon after the ban they got back on the server, teleporting people and vehicles over the ocean. So if you don't want a drama/hacking on your server, don't let them in. Server is developing and I'm excited to read about new fun stuff that is going to be implemented. -

Game Server Hosting by SurvivalServers.com *** INSTANT SETUP | CUSTOM CP | FTP | CUSTOM MODS | ANTI-HACK **
Siggy (DayZ) replied to SurvivalServers (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If you go into PHP MyAdmin and go to object classes then copy the vehicles name, then go back into objects and delete ikarus from 1 of the spawns and copy paste the new vehicle into that spot, the vehicle will be there next restart and should stay on the server forever -
We are a brand new private hive with all the vehicles in the spawn there supposed to be in! we are 24/7 unless we need to update etc! Hackers are banned and reported. We try and make your experience on this server the best ever! The time zone will be changing soon, probably to about UTC -6 Also, the admin is me, my IGN is Astronomical.

Helicopter not spawning on freshly wiped server
treiberthedriver replied to dANIELZN's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hello, on a default dayz server there are spawning 11 vehicles. And in the config of your server you can control the percent chance of the spawn AND the maximum of how much from that vehicle can spawn. So you maybe don't find a helicopter because the chance of that spawn is very little and so other 11 vehicles will be spawned on #restart. e.g.: In mysql functions -> pMain: DECLARE iSpawnNumVeh SMALLINT(3) DEFAULT 11; Set the last digit (11) to maybe 24, then you got 24 vehicles on the map. further more in mysql -> object_classes: There you can see "chance" and "MaxNum". Set UH1H_DZ to 0.90 and 4. restart server, find heli ;) -
Okay, just to start things off, this is what I posted on another forum, and it got quite a bit of agreement from the guys, so we're looking at ways to bring our servers back to what they were before the duping bugs became so common; So, we're looking at removing tents entirely from our server. The issue is, the storage/duping issue will continue through vehicles, which we don't want to remove entirely. Does anyone know if there is any way that we can change vehicles so you can't store anything in them?

And so it slowly dawns on me... Dayz sucks.
NavyCuda replied to xdarc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The alpha is the perfect place to get trained up for the Standalone, while gear is still readily available. What is the reason for expecting so much content from a game that is in alpha status that started as a pet project? Even in its current form DayZ represents what the 90's did for us experienced gamers. How cool was it to fire phasers and give orders as Capt. Kirk in Star Trek 25th Anniversary? How about Indianapolis 500: The Simulation on one floppy disk for Dos? The original Command & Conquer and the smash that was Red Alert. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, I recently purchased on Steam to reminisce. The 90's represented the best achievement in gaming because the technology was moving so slowly that the story, the immersion of the game was essential to its success. As the technology began to progress more rapidly we saw the development of 3D games and modem/online multiplayer games. I certainly enjoyed the Quake and Unreal Tournement bloodbath multiplayer games. In my opinion the technology for presenting the story and characters started to stagnate by about 2000. I won't dispute that graphics have gotten better since 2000, but how has flashly graphics ever improved story telling? DayZ represents a 90's style innovation in gaming. DayZ has managed to make your character valuable enough to physically get your heart beating hard when a situation is getting out of control. Most games there is some way of recovering your character, or reloading at your last save point. In DayZ, you might have the prospect of a 8km hike back to your body and the chance that it won't even be there anymore. DayZ seems to have attracted a number of players who don't understand what surviving means, those people will eventually filter out, but I believe that DayZ will be left with a large enough loyal fanbase to keep the standalone profitable. I hope to see in the standalone, the ability to convert the offroad pickup into a technical, or having to collect a bunch of scrap metal and construct a still for purifying water for a large group of survivors. Perhaps have a funnel in your toolbelt and fill canteens when it is raining. Back in the Alpha, I always have something to do. Sometimes its just me playing, or my wife and I and we do laps of the map collecting gear for our group. It never hurts to stockpile. Maintaining a fleet of vehicles, rotating parking slots and recovering stolen vehicles becomes a full time job. I play on one server, and you get to know the regulars that way, you figure out the areas they like to go through and then you ambush them or die trying. DayZ represents the ability to digitally wake up our hunting and survival instinct, I doubt any other game can do that this well. -
My mostly stupid and probably repeated suggestions for DayZ standalone [Part 1]
timboski posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So basically the thread title acts as a disclaimer. Most of these ideas are either really daft/unrealistic or have already been suggested a million times but I have tried to put my own spin on them where possible. If you are the kind of person who's brain can't deal with reading more than a couple of paragraphs of text or just like whining about stuff then probably best to stop reading now. For everyone else please read on and feel free to discuss/advise. Ok my first and probably most wordy thread will be some map location suggestions with various benefits and hazards associated with them. Power plants/factories/industrial zones. These kinds of places are great for finding various mechanical gubbins as well as being good camping spots (not so good for flying kites or retrieving lost frisbees as the 80's danger TV ads taught us). But currently they are usually pretty safe areas especially from Zeds. So I think some/all power plants should carry serious health risks. Gas escapage or even radiation poisoning should be common with the potential to get sick. Some areas could have explodable fuel tanks and also live wires with the threat of electrocution so the player would need to use extreme caution. To warn the player of danger could be nasty looking gas clouds, sparks and fires as well as big extreme danger signs all over the place. Old run down zoo Ok now you know this would be cool and a perfect way to introduce a few big scary predators that would normally be out of place in the surrounding terrain. Bear pits, deep pools, various (possibly lockable) cages and pens. A few animals would still remain, some you could eat and some that could eat you. I know you are picturing dragging an unconscious player into a bear pit or tiger pen...if not then you are now. Zeds that spawn here could also be in danger from the various hazards. Loot could include tranquilizer guns, chains, traps and all manner wild animal related stuff. Even with all the potential hazards this place would make an amazing base. Have tents with precious loot? Then what better way to put off potential bean thieves than a dirty great bear guarding them. Travelling circus Similar to the zoo with dangers but could introduce...clown zombies...yeah now we're talking. Plus a huge circus tent would be a great setting for an an epic battle between clans and you just know some idiot will try and do the high dive :D Quarry/Mine An actual big crater in the ground with associated dangers and vehicles. Explosives could spawn here and it could have mine shafts/tunnels/caves. A great place to hide out but would also be very dangerous. Could be either a quarry or mine or a bit of both. Full sized mall(s) Pretty self explanatory. If you have played Dead Rising then you know what to expect to find here (nowhere near as daft though). Highlights would include gun/ammo stores with some high quality guns, vehicles in the car park and frozen yoghurt. Most/all stores would be lootable though those that are not would have shutters up etc. Loot should also be spread out so lots of searching has to be done. Big lake(s) with islands As well as the benefit of fresh water there would also be some good potential hideouts on the islands. The islands could have small habitations etc, lots of edible wildlife (also some nasty ones), fixable boats, hell even a few jet skis for fun. The islands would be too far to swim without getting sick (a bit like Skalisty or whatever it's called). BIG mountain(s) Really really high up, snow on the top kinda shit. Would be steep and dangerous with a winding treacherous road and a few small habitations dotted about. I'm struggling to think of what could be found here to make the journey worthwhile but I'm sure if could have something good. Coastal cliffs with caves If you've seen The Lost Boys then you'll know exactly what I mean. If not then it's basically steep cliff with a cave or series of caves which would be a bit tricky to get to. Some maybe would only be accessible from the water so would require a boat or a lot of swimming. Would be most useful as a base but could also contain some good loot.
