    That's not the point.

    You're totally lost.

    What is your point?

    Do you even know?

You throw out game titles like bf and wow and when we shut you down you say "that's not the point."

"Complexity of game mechanics" makes wow similar to day z, you say?

Well, then any and all games with "complex mechanics" must be the same, by that reasoning.

Your arguments have no basis in logic.

Refer to my first post in this thread where I outlined some of the complex game mechanics. *Some*. It's a list of almost 30 mechanics.

You absolutely cannot compare day z to any other game. Period.

  2. Wow is a fantasy rpg.

Does it have *any* survival elements?

    No comparison at all.

I'll say it again: if you don't think day z is an amazing game then go away.

What BF do you talk about?

All BF i played, except one, had free maps added.

And maybe it took 9 months, but it was done.

How many months since XboX release for DayZ?

How many breaking game bugs still there?

How many content still not there, not reimplemented since 0.62 or not even implemented once?

    Stop making yourself blind.

All BF's forced you to buy Premium to get "free" stuff.

Paying for free stuff is not free, lol!

If BF had a quarter of the content that Day Z has, you think that there wouldn't be bugs?

You really cannot compare any other games to Day Z; Day Z has clothing with storage capacities, crafting, repairing mechanics, sickness, health, hunger, thirst, bleeding, scratching, temperature & clothing degradation mechanics, weapons spawns, weapon attachment spawns, weapon mag spawns, clothing spawns, food spawns, drink spawns, ammo spawns, backpack spawns, container spawns, random chopper crash spawns, random goat spawns, random deer spawns, random cattle spawns, random wild pig spawns, random vehicle spawns and not to mention the sheer vastness of the map.

What does BF, rainbow six siege, cod, fornite, pubg, last of us, state of decay or any other competitive/survival multiplayer game have that could be compared on the same scale as day z?

    Zombies? Weapons and attachments? Vehicles?

No one can deny that no other game contains as much as day z or comes close to the scale.

    Are there bugs?

    Of course.

Could a game of this scale, no matter who was making it be expected to not have bugs?

    Realistically, hell no.

    Is the game perfect?

    No.

    Is the game amazing?

If you think not, then why the hell do you still play???

I, for one absolutely love the game and I always come back.

I took a couple of months off after 1.04 dropped, but now that I'm back, I am more in love with the game and the concept of the game than ever before.

  4. A story of struggle, ecstasy, devastation and amazement ensues...

I had travelled west along the coast from my spawn at Cap Golova, scouring the security buildings for any weapons I could find.

I managed to pick up an ij with a couple of mags, a skorpion, an sgk with mags but low ammo and an fx plus an assortment of other ammo types.

My hope was to find a mag or two for the fx and then a suppressor before heading inland to vmc, nwaf and tisy, but after searching through Prig, Novo, Balota, Pav and Bay Tikhaya mili bases, I still had no more sgk ammo, no vest, no suppressor and no fx mags. I had plenty of .45 ammo, but heading inland with less than 30 rounds for my primary weapon and no mags for my fx was not confidence inspiring.

Finally, I made it to the Myshkeno mili base and found an Sk, Sk mags and enough ammo to sink a ship.

I decided to try my luck in the vmc and then, assuming I lived to continue, on to nwaf.

On my way to vmc, I stumbled upon a player base with a mili tent packed away.

I had never, ever found a mili tent in the wild before and, like most desperate survivors, I felt that I needed it more that the current owner.

So, off I ambled at a leisurely pace while my heart pounder, my stomach churned and the hairs on the back of my neck bristled in anticipation of the inevitable shot fired from the barrel of the gun of the irked previous owner of the mili tent I was absconding with.

But no such shot came and I made it over the hill and far away.

I knew I needed to find a place so out of the way that no one would ever think of coming to.

So, as I mosied along, I pored over the map for the perfect location.

I was so preoccupied with looking on the map and only looking up briefly to ensure that I didn't walk off of a cliff, that I did not discern that I was severely dehydrated.

It wasn't until my character started to groan that I realised in horror that I was already half dead!

I dropped the tent, taking note of where, but feeling a deep void where my optimism used to dwell.

I had 2 empty canteens, an empty plastic bottle and several tins of beans, sardines and bacon, but none quenched my thirst enough for my health to cease it's spiralling descent.

I stumbled forth into the dark forest in desperate hope that a river, a lake, a pond, a puddle was waiting for me.

But no such luck; my handsome character pitched backward as he succumbed to severe dehydration (apparently).

My new character takes his first breath on the coast of Cherno.

I held little hope that I would make it back to my beloved tent before it evaporated into oblivion, so I spent the next four days (2-3 hour increments as RL allowed) looting and wandering.

Ironically, along an almost identical path to which my previous character had taken, upon which I had found zero fx mags, I now found more than I could carry, plus ammo, plus a vest, plus an sgk with mags and scope and torch mount. This time around, all I lacked was a decent backpack, so I spent the next days wearing a bright yellow dry backpack to compliment my leopard print patrol jacket and pants.

Finally, I arrived at the area where I had dumped the tent four days ago.

I continued jogging, not slowing down to survey the area, without any thread of hope, the constant voice in my head telling me that I'm fooling myself and that coming out this way was just a huge waste of time.

    And then I spotted it.

    Neatly packed.

The morning dew glistening upon it in the warm sun.

It's long, green handles reaching out to me, whispering in a familiar voice "I waited for you. I knew you would return."

    I was dumbfounded.

I sat I'm my armchair with my mouth open until my wife, who was watching her shows in silent disdain of my adventures noticed my stunned mullet expression and lovingly queried "what the hell is wrong with you, now?!"

All I could stammer was "I can't believe it; it's still here! I can't believe it..."

And here ends the heroic tale of ThunderpantsAU: Tent thief.

I hope you enjoyed this epic story.

Please feel free to share your own.

  5. I used a silenced fx to take out a zed that had spotted me. I was inside a mili tent and he was outside. The nearest zed was approx 10 meters away and he didn't aggro. This was a pristine suppressor. Was yours worn?

I've noticed the the plastic bottle suppressors don't suppress the sound worth a damn, even a fresh one...

  6. That's annoying considering it's technically not an actual glitch in the game; you actually have to interrupt your own Internet connection.

Oh well, his name is venemie or some derivative of that in game, so anyone who feels like going duper hunting, god speed.

  7. This guy "venemie" is making tutorial videos on DayZ glitches.

His latest video is showing the latest duplication method.

I don't know if his xbox user name is venemie, but he totally should be banned, imo.

    His server is 3900.

    What do yall think?

  8. Hey, DayZers!

I've just hopped back in after not playing since 0.63 and I am loving the new loot items!

I have acquired a knife sheath and have been searching for a belt high and low.

The official announcement confirmed belts are in the game, just not where.

If you have found any, where has it been?

    Thanks!

There is still gun jamming in the game, I had picked up a damaged IJ-70 and it jammed.

So I shot a Z, the gun jammed but the unjamming action was automatic because right after the gun jammed, the character started hitting the gun, pulling the slide to unjam it, once it had done unjamming the gun, I hit Y and it chambered another round.

I presume this is since the latest update?

I had basically the same thing, except my gun was an fx-45 with a mag.

Shot a z and noticed that the gun hadn't chambered the next round and, sure enough: jammed.

But my toon didn't automatically go into the unjam animation and there was no prompt.

I tried removing and reloading the mag, loading a single round, hovering over gun cleaning kit, dropping the gun and jumping on it, yelling at my TV but nothing worked.

I guess I'll just start looking for a replacement...

    • Haha 1

  10. I searched the forum and couldn't find anything on this, but sorry if I missed it.

Gun unjamming. Was this in the game on console?

I feel like it was before the most recent update, though I never had a gun jam on me during that time, but now, since the last update, I have had a gun jam on me and I can't unjam it.

Am I crazy or have they removed unjamming from the game?

You are simple minded. There won’t be a update for console for about another month if not 2 months the rate there going. Just going based off the track record they got. Shit even if there is a update the game will just get worse. Again just going off there track record.

Dude take a chill pill and don't resort to petty name calling.

There were regular updates before the Christmas break. True, a lot of the time they broke more than they fixed, but it's GAME PREVIEW.

BI does need a devoted xbox team, but until that happens, problems will persist.

My advice to you is if you can't handle a little bit of disappointment, maybe take a break from the game and try the real world; that will get you used to disappointment real quick.

Because there is an obvious difference between exploiting a loophole and straight up cheating, it should be clear enough.

I am not encouraging using the loophole, im just saying its not the same ball-game as what we consider regular cheating in games (moving chess-pieces in ways they are not meant to or when the opponent is not looking or aim-hacks and wall-hacks for computer-games).

It has the same effect in this instance; exploiting this loophole ie server hopping to loot up affects the other player base and, if the now looted up hopper and the player not hopping faced off, the odds would be stacked in the hoppers favor.

A definition of cheating is the gaining of the upper hand in an unfair or deceptive manner.

    The point is clear.

Don't be a jerk just because you don't agree with the analogy. It is totally beside the point.

TLDR; Most people don't know how to play the game correctly and shouldn't be expected to. Arguing the ethics of ghosting gets nowhere and we shouldn't be attacking each others' real lives over a game. We shouldn't expect people to play fair/ condemn them, or complain about how these people play. What we can do however, is prevent ourselves from being a victim of it, and take advantage of the current situation whether it be killing hoppers or knowing where to loot while avoiding them. My suggestion for the problem, like others, is an increasing timer OR a timed 5-10minute roll back of data when joining a new server.

There's a lot of hate in this thread. Please people, try to remember this is Xbox. While I agree that server-hopping is a cheap way to get looted, it is still generally frowned upon in the Xbox community. However,  1.) the vast majority of the Xbox community isn't on the forums or are new players, so they might not even know how the game is "meant" to be played. 2.) Most people aren't concerned with how the game is meant to be played vs how it is already played. 3.) Calling out people for how they want to spend their time playing, ethically or unethically, doesn't really contribute anything. While it's definitely an exploitation, its an exploitation already in the game. While it's ok to pat yourself on the back for your own moral strength, it's immediately canceled out when you force it on someone else.

The thread was "forced metas;" we can argue up and down all day without resolution on the "correct" way of playing so why even bother, especially when people start attacking each others' real lives. It's the internet people.. We can't just call out everything we don't agree with as it obviously leads nowhere.

4.) It shouldn't really be up to the players to decide how to play the game and spend everyone's hours. If someone want's to spend hours, because lets be honest, no matter where you are at, it will take at least a couple of hours, then good job. If someone wants to hop, its still going to take them an hour or two as well and that's ok. Because of the game's current issues, I don't really think we should be arguing how we should play, when the game isn't currently what it should be. Or arguing how anyone should or shouldn't spend the time of their own lives.

5.) Even with server hopping being the game breaking meta it is, the current spawning mechanics help alleviate it to some degree and its unlikely that EVERYTHING will be gone. There are plenty of viable looting spots that just requires maybe a little bit of extra thinking. A good way to get to a virgin server is to put your list to descending and just join a reset server. I never really have a problem playing the "right" way or the "wrong" way, you just gotta use a bit of common sense.

People have been arguing since the dawn of time methods to alleviate ghosting, but that doesn't change the fact that its here alive and well. Instead of expecting people to do the right thing, because that's not even what happens in real life, players who have a problem should just adapt to it until a fix is implemented, if ever. Everyone knows the problem, so play accordingly. When I run to a military spot that I know is a good spot to server hop, sometimes I just wait and let the loot come to me. Exploit the exploiters, but its not that serious to be arguing who has jobs, kids, wives, etc etc. Its a game at the end of the day folks.

MY SUGGESTION; its already been said by BI that the reason we don't have character locked servers is because it simply takes up too much data, at least on Xbox. What we'll probably get, and what I agree with most, is an incrementally increasing timer when joining new servers. Or my second suggestion is a timed roll back of data. For example, instead of server timer, you get logged back 5-10 minutes of what your status was.

If you read closely, you'll see that the hate is from and returned toward one person who was trolling and has said in other threads that he doesn't even play the game anymore.

I know that the best way to deal with a troll is to ignore them, but this guy is a very poor excuse for a troll and all of his arguments were too easily overturned be resist.

Overlooking all the trolling and the biting back, you can see genuine players discussing thought out opinions and, from what I've read, the concensus seems to be server locked characters, closely followed by server hopping penalties, which you have described very well in your response.

You talk about game data and BI not being able to store it all. Imo, that's a weak argument since all of us xbox players have paid for the game preview, so considering how many players there are around the world and multiplying that number by however much the game was (I paid 52 Aussie dollars), that's a whole bunch of money. I realise that Microsoft would have taken a cut, but that would still be quite a tidy sum, so saying that they don't have enough money to buy some new servers and such just doesn't seem reasonable.

Bringing up that these things have already been said in the past by players and BI doesn't really help anybody.

The problem still exists so we need to make it known that we want it fixed since, as OP said, it is forcing a meta on players and day z is about choices, not conformity.

    PC

That's not the way I play  - I play Hardcore - there is a world of DayZ around this planet - my ONE character plays it, takes risks with 5,000 - 50,000 other online players. I don't want to have "several" different characters on different risks in different environments - to me that's just like playing on a LAN. I gear up as I go and then ..what?.. PVP? .. that's short-time play.. I'd rather turn up in a strange place that might be high risk and scout it out, find out what's happening when I hit the ground, if it's empty, if its got hidden stashes, military style police squads, mad players, hunters, bandits, backwoods folk, car freaks, solo artists,
It's always a pleasure to be outwitted by a smart player in DayZ, but if you're stuck on one server with only 30 regulars, you don't meet many of those..

SO if there are Shard servers (there are), that's FINE by me, I think a good percentage of PC players want to play that way (you do). If there are plmayers who want to play whitelist only, that's OK, it's just not my thing. Myself I like DayZ the way BI set it up originally, deliberately, where for every X private servers hired out, there had to be one extra open public server provided, on the public Hive.
It's fine with me if players who hire servers want them to be Private Shard or Public Hive, either way.. their choice. But the servers I go back to regularly (almost always play on) are Public Hive. If I make a bad move on one I lose on all of them.  That's the game. I don't have "plenty safe backup personas" on several different private hives. I just live till I die.

Xbox players should have the same opportunity as already exists on PC, where some servers are Shard (private, one character) and some are Public Hive (same character everywhere). Then players would have the same choice PC players have:  if they think hoppers are wrecking the game, they can join a private shard. If they want to do <fast gear up and Deathmatch>  on Saturday night, they can do that too. Both types of server exist.
    IMO
If all servers were "character locked" I wouldn't play.. I don't want a list of 7 or 30 different characters at different stages and try to remember where I am and what I'm doing and what gear I have on each one, or where I stashed my barrel ? (I just kind of live out of one barrel stashed on one server somewhere on the planet earth)  .. nah. I'm ONE player, one personality, I go where I like, I communicate in whatever language the locals speak, bullets, skill, voice, as much as I can, I'm one Toon.  So I die when I die.

    - Put a 1 minute logout timer on DayZ, that would stop ghosting and combat logging.
    - If you don't like hoppers, go on overwatch and kill hoppers for fun (that's a game too). You know where they will show up.
    - OR go to a Shard server where there are no hoppers.
    - OR on open servers don't go where hoppers go. and if you go there, expect them. Plan for them like everything else in DayZ.

    - OR put a five minute logout penalty if a player leaves a server after less than half an hour. That would slow down hoppers a lot.

But all this has been argued through extensively for .. 4 years...???
    - For instance, I was pushing for no-log zones about 2 or 3 years ago.

    *

Something should be done for Xbox players to give them the same options PC players have already.

    xxP

I agree with most of what you said.

Granted, I've only been playing since the xbox release, however I have been watching and living vicariously through YouTube day z-ers for years.

I think the 1 min logout timer would be great to dissuade combat loggers, but, short of character locked servers, I don't think that will stop the loot hoppers.

Something that has probably already been suggested but I haven't seen is a three hop limit per hour (off the top of my head.)

What I mean by that is you can change servers 3 times in an hour, but then a penalty will be imposed the next (4th) time you attempt to hop, such us being locked to that last server for the remainder of the hour ie: all servers except the most recent one are inaccessible from the server list.

What I don't agree with @pilgrim* is how you describe server locked characters being a list of 7 or 30 etc.

Firstly, imo there should only be a max of 3 characters to "live in" locked servers.

If you wanted to be ultra hardcore, it'd be one character locked in one server and you only can change server upon death. Think of it as reincarnation, except that whether you're good or bad, you still come back as a human.

So if it were like that, it's pretty much how you play now: one toon, you die when you die.

Regarding killing hoppers and going to overwatch to do so, why would I go and play another game to kill hoppers if its the hoppers in this game that are the problem?

    They're hopping in this game.

Killing other hoppers isn't going to solve anything in this game.

And by doing that, I'd be punishing myself, since day z is the game I want to play.

Maybe I misunderstood what you said, but the way I read it makes no sense to me.

Anyway, I'm going to keep playing regardless of other people.

I play my way, live or die.

Show me what, how to loot? No thanks kid I've played enough to know something basic as that, what I'm saying in a nutshell is, over the last week, myself and others I play with have found I have had to hop servers to find an ar, not burlap strips or pliers or ammo even or anything else, I'm talking simply guns, M4 and AKs to be precise and even with hopping we are still struggling to find them and I genuinely believe it's due to people hoarding gear in their pointless little bases ( which are going to be wiped at some point) by going out and hopping servers just for the sake of it

Sounds like you're just plain unlucky.

Just a side point, it seems you and @DayzDayzFanboy have confused each other with Andrew Huk, the troll. All this aggression toward each other is unnecessary. Just saying.

I don't play on US servers, as they are the most populated and hence the most looted.

Maybe try some NL servers down the bottom of the list.

  19. I remember from watching day z videos prior to the xbox release that there was some semi-official color reference for armbands, something like: red = cannibals, black = kos, green = friendly etc.

I was just wondering is there any such code that exists or is it just whatever color raincoat you find enough of?

    Just curious.

We'll so far that's 6 views by people who dont agree as they've not commented or liked, so thats 6 server hoppers then. This game will be dead on console within a few months and the only people left playing will be server hoppers who spend all night hopping for gear and logout as soon as they see someone .

I really hope the server hoppers will get tired of having to grind even just a few minutes so that they can pvp.

I don't mind hoarders; if they're on my server and I find them, that's free loot for me haha.

But the pvp hoppers/combat ghosters are just ruining what has the potential to be a hardcore survival masterpiece and I really don't understand the mentality; either they are cowards and looking for legit players to "pvp" with and just ambushing them or they are not skilled enough to play a real pvp game; pubg, cod, battlefield whatever.

I really appreciate this plea to the devs you are making @TheYetiBum and hope the devs listen.

I agree , etiquette should be followed , but remember this is game preview , so not all things in the game are working correctly, and there is server wipes everything other week, which makes it pretty pointless to play without server hopping right now

I used to try and play this game the way its meant to be played, joining one server and sticking to it, but realized quickly that you waste your time because of the wipes / moving servers to PC.

Maaybe one day, if the 1.0 comes out and i read some proper patch notes with important details fixed in game, instead of just adding stuff all the time, then I will play dayz how its' meant to be played

Not much time to play and want to pvp?

    Pubg is the answer.

Edit: *I only get to play a few hours a week because I too have a job, wife and child, not to mention a house and cars to maintain and I still play without hopping, so don't try to pull that crap. *

Your logic in all of your responses are flawed and selfish.

As has been explained to you, server hopping is not a part of how to play the game; the server list is only accessible from the splash screen *outside* a server. If server hopping was a part of how to play the game, you'd be able to do it from the menu *inside* a server.

You and people like you are ruining this game for people who play it properly, not to mention each other; if everyone server hopped and geared up to pvp, when you die 15mins-30mins later, respawn and go try to gear up, guess what? There's going to be no gear coz everyone has looted, hopped and repeated.

    Then what can you do?

You don't seem to grasp that hopping will eventually impact you; everyone will get tired of playing the game right and either leave or do what you're doing.

My point is: you're a selfish, shortsighted moron.
