    Stupid Questions Thread

I am fairly new as well, but I recognise your questions. I'll try to add some things which Pilgrim left open. 1. The Zeds are mostly in the bigger cities. You''ll hear them mostly before you see them. Once they attack you, they make this screaming sound, so you kinda get warned by them. Prepare for some clunky battle though, but after a few you will get a hang of it. It can get messy sometimes, so have some rags/bandages ready as Pilgrim suggested. If you don't feel like fighting them, you can also out run them. They will chase you for some time, but they will give up eventually. Bear in mind that chasing zombies can alert other players that you are there. On the other hand, if you see zombies running in the distance, this means another player has drawn aggro from them. So they give away the presence of other players as well. 2. It takes some time to figure it out, but I find the in-game map rather useless... It has no town names on it and (unless I am mistaken) your position is not shown on the map. I try to play without any sort of map, but if you want there are some apps or websites out there that have a pretty good map (Russian town names translated). To know where you are, look for road signs next to the roads leading to towns. You can also find some signs with directions to the nearest towns, but the names will be in Russian. It took me some time to get used to that spelling. 3. I know which ones you mean. They have working benches in them and sometimes you can get in when there is a pile of rubbish or something in front of the doors. But some of these buildings are not enterable, as you cant really jump in this game (only when hopping over a fence). 4. Also take into account that, when you are sprinting this will make your character breath hard. When aiming after sprinting, you gun will sway heavily, so you might want to catch your breath before shooting. When you jog, you will have a better aim right away. So I tend to sprint in the fields, but in town I jog, just to be ready when I get shot at and I need to return fire quickly. You can reduce sway by laying down and holding your breath (click and hold right mouse button). When you have your gun up (space bar) you are running slower than when you have it lowered. I have noticed that once you get to the status of ''Hydrated'' and ''energised'' it takes far longer before you get hungry or thirsty again. So once you reach these statuses, you can cut down on the number of cans and foods you haul. Try to drink at the pumps you meet in town, but be careful, you are a sitting duck at these pumps... I always drink until my guy says he is stuffed and then I take 2 or 3 sips extra. Don't drink too much as this might make you vomit. In addition, I try to stay away from the dry foods (cornflakes, rice, milk powder) if I don't have a full canteen on me, as they will take away the hunger but they lower your water level considerably as well. In other words: they will make you thirsty. 5. Recently I started looting train cars, as they tend to have some nice guns and ammo in them: Winchester, repeater, magnum, etc. I also like the small military base in Novy Sobor. I haven't met as many players there as at the airfield or the big military bases, although it can be hot there as well... Try to take the approach through the trees and scout it out before running into the tents to loot. A good thing to find is the Red9 pistol, as you can load it with 9mm bullets without needing a mag for it. Also keep in mind that you can empty a full mag by right clicking it, so you might find some ammo you can use for your gun, in a mag you can't use on this gun (for ex: empty an CR75 pistol mag to get the 9mm rounds to put in your Red9 or Glock (single round chambering)) --> You can chamber guns with one bullet if you don't have the mag for it, but this means you have one shot before needing to reload. So use this very carefully... Hope this helps you out. Good luck and watch your back! edit: very bad English

Where do i find .308 rounds!?!

You seriously give this as an advice? Please... If you can't find the bullets, then you can't fire the gun. Deal with it, but please don't server hop.

Is it just me or are the servers empty?

For my region (Europe) the majority of servers have indeed max 7 players on them, although there are quite a few that are nearly full as well. I look for anything with a ping lower then 100 and then I choose the one with the most players vs best ping. Maybe you have some filter active which is hiding servers for you? If not, then I guess you need to figure out when the best moments are to play DayZ in your region. You can find a pattern in the moments with a lot of players on and moments with almost nobody on...

    How was your Day(Z)?

I was a fresh spawn in Balota. Went to pick up some clothing at the airfield and found 3 handguns but no ammo... My sole weapon was an Icepick. Ran towards Cherno to see if I could find some ammo - our trouble - but when I just arrive there a sniper broke my legs. I used some rags to stop the bleeding, but didn't have the sticks for the splint. So I crawled all the way behind a building, through a field, heading for a bush to chop sticks for the splint. Right before I reach the bush, some other fresh spawn runs by and knocks me unconscious. When I wake up, everything I have is gone, but this guy gave me the decency to give me his shoes and his flare...and he left me my Makarov with 0 bullets... but no rag, no sticks...and certainly no morphine, so the leg is still broken. So I crawl for about half an hour from house to house in the back of Cherno, trying to find a t-shirt or a bandage to make the splint. Had to crawl passed some Zeds and shots were fired in town, although not in my direction as it seemed. In the end, I found what I needed, made a knife from a stone and was back on my feet again. It nearly took me 45 minutes from being shot to be back up again. I enjoyed that.

    Truck Question

oh, right. That's what I have indeed. Didn't know you had to enter the commands like that. Thanks! edit: found a reddit post about these settings for those who didn't know about this either.

    Truck Question

Maybe not on topic, but how do you access these Launch options? In Steam I can right click the DayZ game name and find a "Launch options" button, but then it says that these settings are only for advanced users and I can't change anything. Or am I looking in the wrong place?

    How was your Day(Z)?

I was on a 50 slot server which was almost full, ran from the North all the way to the military base next to Myshkino. After scoping it out for a bit I saw nobody and had a go at it. I ran around the tents for quite some time as no shots were fired. Except for some stupid Zed that came through a tent wall and scared the living *** out me, nothing happened. I had picked up an AKM with mag but I was double carrying it. When I arrived at Myshkino I dropped the AKM to take my binocs and the AKM was... gone. Even logging out and in did not help... Met up with a fellow Belgian guy and we went to meet another Belgian who was a fresh spawn just passed Electro. We ran across Balota, Cherno and Elektro and saw not even a soul (zeds don't have souls, right?), except for a fresh spawn running inland between Cherno and Elektro. The server was still not empty (35/50-ish), so we were wondering were all these people were hiding at... At the end the server began to run empty so we logged out.

    Some questions

This IS the new players forum sub thread. So if you think that my questions are stupid or hilarious, you can laugh, but you sure don't need to bother answering them for me. Good doggy.

    Some questions

So you basically make your own rules in PVE, depending how hard you want to make it for your character so survive, right? But I'm confused: ''you don't fight other player unless really necessary''. Why would this be necessary? (let's assume there are no people doing PVP on the PVE server). Would it be ok to punch another player unconscious to steal his food? Or what do you mean exactly?

    Some questions

You tend to use the word bullshit a lot it seems, but thanks for your reply.

    Some questions

Hi all, So I have been playing DayZ for about 32 hours now and have some questions left: 1) I already know that Hardcore has to do with only the 1PP being used, but does is include other difficulties? I have read some things about less loot, server times, day time going faster so it is harder to navigate on stars/sun, faster starvation, etc. But these are posts from 2013/2014. What is the actual deal here? 2) If a server states that it is Hardcore, how do you know that all the other players are playing in 1PP? Or is 3PP always disabled on hardcore servers? 3) Some servers state ''veteran'' in the title. What does this mean? Is it the same as Hardcore or is this to warn new players that this is a server for more experienced players? 4) What exactly is PVE? I know it means Player vs Environment, but what does that mean? Do you only get to eat stuff from fishing/hunting/farming? Can you eat canned food? Are you supposed to kill all Zeds you run across? Is it forbidden to shoot at people as a PVE'er? So basically: what are the guidelines for playing as a PVE character? Hope you guys find the time to answer these. Cheers, Tox

    Wasteland UK/EU Hardcore Private Server

Hi Woody, Is there a link somewhere to the specific rules? Not that I am planning to break any of them, but just want to know what is expected and what not.

    How to change my IGN?

    aha, so it's one of those ''it's doable, but it's bugged'' things. Will give it a try this evening. --> worked! Thanks!! {put a lock on it, sir}
  14. Hi there, I have a quick question: my In Game Name in Dayz is ''jeroe'' which is my first name, but missing one letter at the end (Jeroen). I have absolutely no clue when and where I entered this to be my IGN for Dayz... I would like to change that to my normal IGN/nick which is Toxmose. I have been searching in Dayz how to change this, but couldn't find any solution. Can anyone point me out where to change the name please? Thanks! Tox
