You are gonna want to check greenhouses and also kill as many zombies as possible because they drop food and drink items too. Hunting is the best long term solution. The hunger/thirst aspect will always remain annoying so long as you have to eat every hour or so. I would much rather food and animals to hunt were even rarer than they are but your character could last a few of day/night cycles without needing food/drink. As another person on here put it, they made the hunger/thirst system as they did and cheaply label as survival. Laziness by the devs in my opinion. Really takes away from the game.

The standalone is definitely a different experience than the mod. I know they intended it that way and I actually think the game isn't bad. It's just some small things that just baffle me. Again with zombies... they may as well take them outta of the game and replace them with more animals we can hunt. Cause that is all zombies are there for is to kill for food drops. Guns again.... how do we get a whole standalone game but then get less guns? No LMG's period. The standalone is more like a plain survival game rather that a zombie apocalypse survival game. The game is decent but I can't say I am not disappointed. All it would take is some small tweaks and the game would be great. Then again, I fully understand that not every game is going to please everyone.

I am in search of a server that has more Zombies and I have a couple of questions. First, I've read that even in the official servers the experience can vary quite a bit. Are there any good running official servers that have more Zombies? Second, will extra zombies mean bad frame rates? Third, does any one know any servers that have more zombies?

Well, I think due to the scarce loot and (in my opinion cheap) survival aspects, those exciting PvP situations are very few and far between. I think I have literally been shot at once since I've started playing and I've been roaming all around NW Airfield and etc. Every other PvP situation besides that were melee fights. People are too busy looking for food/drink and magazines to match their guns it seems. I played 7 Days to Die pretty extensively. I have countless hours on all the Arma 2 and 3 DayZ mods. Literally played the Mod since the Vanilla version was the only option to play or close to around that time. You had to worry about Zombie's in both or at least you wanted to avoid them and PvP in the standalone is super super rare compared to the Mods to the point I run around NW Airfield, Stary Sober and big cities with essentially no worries. Have you payed the DayZ mods?

Welcome to DayZ Standalone. Where worrying about hunger/thirst is the most intensity you will get outta the game. Find a gun? Don't worry about being excited cause you will still need to find the magazine and ammo to go with it. Finally find a cool gun with magazines and ammo? Congratulations you're at end game because there are only a couple of more cool guns in the game so you don't have to worry about looking to see what else is out there. Oh and don't worry, zombies add no intensity to the game either. Rather than avoid them or worry about them at all we actually hunt them down because 1 in every 20 will drop food or drink.

Too Much Emphasis On Hunger And Thirst?

I'm right there with you man. I'm a week into this game and I've given this game more chances than any game I've ever played. Usually I will play a game through a little bit and if I don't like it I will push to give it a few more chances just to make sure. I've given this game more chances than any other game I've ever played by far. I just loved the Arma 2 and 3 mods so much and I want to like this game so bad. I mean even when the hunger/thirst situation is more secure and you can explore there is just no excitement to it. Loot variety sucks. Gun variety is horrid. No worry about zombies. Just no excitement to play this game. I went trough Northwest Airfield about 6 times. Found an M4 and was happy. Continued to search to find something cool like an LMG or a nice looking 7.62 AR like the AK12. Nothing like that so I thought maybe I am looking in the wrong spot. I research and find the DayZ Wiki list of weapons and realize no LMG's and only one 7.62 rifle that looks old and worn (KA-M). They stripped this game of all the good features and added tedious tasks like the hunger/thirst dynamic and find ammo but no gun and vice versa. Also got to find mag. Search for food. Search for something to open it with. Hunt.... make sure you wash hands. I mean come on lol. They very cheaply label this as survival. And none of this stuff is exciting to find like a sweet LMG or AK12 would be. What do I have look forward to? Stashing M4's and looking for food/drink. -
Too Much Emphasis On Hunger And Thirst?

Thank you everyone big time for the replies. I want to clarify that I do thank this game is decent. In my opinion tho it just doesn't stack up to the mods but I think some small changes could make it the game we always wanted. There are just a lot of cheap things they add in on here and label it as survival. Other examples besides thirst/hunger are finding a gun with no magazine and needing an ax or can opener to open a can of food. How many guns in real life are gonna be found with no mag or no ammo at all? And if I am starving I guarantee I can get into a can of food with no can opener. In my opinion a player should be able to survive several day night cycles without food but make food way harder to find. Keep the hunting system and the equipment needed to hunt as is. Also, zombies need to be a serious threat. Why even have zombies in the game? At least in the mods we try to avoid them rather than chase them down to kill them for loot. I mean let us go into the game and worry about actually surviving a zombie apocalypse. Again I think this game is decent and I will continue to play. I've always loved Dayz and really enjoy kicking back in my recliner to play. It's just frustrating because I think this game could be so much better. -
I understand food and hunger should be a thing that needs to be worried about but I find myself purely focused on finding food and drink. I don't care if I have 20 food and thirst items each, I am still going to be almost solely searching for hunger and thirst items. It's not even realistic how fast it goes down. Humans can survive 3 days without water and even longer without food. My Dayz dude certainly can't go that many day/night cycles without. Having to worry almost constantly and completely about thirst and hunger isn't hard, it's just boring, tedious and takes away from a more in depth experience. No variety just hunger and thirst.

Cant join any Overpoch servers?
beavis_5000 replied to beavis_5000's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Thanks Don, I will try this as soon as I get a chance and report back to you. -
All the names come up like I about go to the lobby but then it goes to the exit screen with no error message or anything. This happens with all Overpoch servers except one. I can join one Overpoch server but I get kicked after about 10 minutes everytime. All it says is "You were kicked".

My friends, PLEASE understand that the gun issue is not my main concern. It is a symptom of my main concern. I'm saying out of all the things they can be adding to the game right now, why clothing items? It seem slike the least of things they should be worrying about. Hell, guns seems like the least of things they should be worrying about. But at least guns "awesome" looking guns would liven the game up a bit. If your at a military camp tell me what you would rather find: A) Rotten Fruit B)M4 C)Mask D)Fur Coat E)SA-58 I don't think there is any question what 99% of people would choose. Instead they give us simple items like clothing. I get a lazy feel from it like they are just giving us something to make us feel like they are trying. But like I said, GUNS ARE FAR FROM THE MAIN ISSUE!!!!!! As far as the whole "Its Alpha" thing, firstly, at 30$ it should be at least a half way finished product. Its not even close to that. Basically you pay $30 to be able to go into the buildings on Cernarus. If that's worth it to you then I respect your opinion. In my opinion charging $30 for this game in this state is robbery, regardless of Alpha stage. At this point Alpha seems like more of an excuse. $30 dollars for a game that one could easily argue is worse than the mod? They put this game out as "Alpha" for $30 and they don't even have the zombies straightened out? Yes, things like this really concern me with what is going to happen with this game.

As far as weapons I don't think the loot table should be random. You go to a military camp to get military weapons. I think these places should be loaded with zombies. I don't think military weapons should be in a firehouse and im surprised to hear its that way still in the SA.

I wouldn't say its my biggest concern but it is a concern. It ties in with my worries of the direction of the game. Instead of giving us guns comparable to the mod we get these bland guns and customization items. You cant tell me these guns are even close to being as good as the mod guns. And I would say its a safe bet that if you ask someone if they would rather have a fur coat or a SA-58 CCO they will likely want the bad ass gun. I feel like they are throwing in some simple customization options to make it seem like they are doing something. And these customization options aren't even that unique from each other. And im shocked to see anyone in disagreement that awesome guns would be awesome to have in the game. No doubt Russia wouldn't have as many guns but military bases in Russia would. And their are military camps all over Chernarus that need awesome guns. Out of all the things the could be adding to the game right now I don't think custom items is where its at.
