Short Campaign, Single Player Free Roam

Recommended Posts

Before you start hating on me for the "bla bla bla PVP is a part of the game" i would like to note that i fully agree with this being an online survival game BUT... when i have a bad internet connection or no internet at all i would like to be able to play Dayz Standalone any way. My idea for the Short Campaign is some sort of background story of the infection, maybe start out before the infection as a civillian in Chernarus under the civil war, then see the zombies attack the military and then have to survive long enough to get the final boat out of Chernarus? The single player free roam should be a sort of "playground" for people who don't feel like playing online, but having to build up their person separetly from the multiplayer part.

A short campaign like this could allso be usefull as a training ground/tutorial for newcomers, or as a free advertising small part of the game. But it should have just a small part of the map(less then 25%) and just part of the equipement (no military goodies - to avoid maybe duping).

I like the idea that you should have short singleplayer from the start of infection to the point where the multiplayer starts!

Also would be fair to have it able to continue as you discribe freeroam for "online"offline play... only if you are not able to have those items brought to real online"world"

Before a mod deadlegs your thread, let me just say it's not happening.

I've tried to open a thread like this, and got locked by Max. "No single player. Locked."

I'm with you on the idea though.

I give this +1. Not for the 'lore' elements, but for the tutorial elements. When this game goes SA, there will inevitably be some variation to the controls and such. A single player tutorial is something that could ease new players into the harsh reality of Day Z and teach them the [relatively] complex controls of the game, assuming they still bear some similarity to the ArmA 2 controls.

Max locks everything.... i am afraid to write my feelings about him due to his censorship, i gave him the nickname "North Korea"....

But thats not what i mean, we need as sort of intro or tutorial for the storyline, as why the zombies infection happened etc...

Tutorial, for lore and learning of controls, yes.

Pretty much anything more, I`d have to vote no.

Not going to happen. Rocket has stated that they will NOT do it. There will be clues as to what happend in the game, but only for those who look for them, they will not force a story down your throat.

You can already play DayZ as a singleplayer game, there are so many empty servers around and with the private hive's you can just lock your server and simply play with a few friends. So I really don't see what the problem is.

yes this would be great as you would not have to worry about hackers or snipers in elektro and this would be great for when dayz is ported to console (hopefully on disc) as people without internet connection could play.

but...................no objectives or missions. i beileve singleplayer would add the ability to make safehouse building easier so if you were to build a safehouse you could log off and the safehouse would still be there

Something like this could be very important for standalone. Presumably the mission editor and armory will be gone so having an area for bambies to mess around in before going online would definitely help with the learning curve. Maybe it could use a small map like Utes that isn't part of the main multiplayer area?

I can even see the end of the mission. You've gathered some supplies and made it to the quarantine zone and boarded a ferry off the island. The boat is packed and steaming away from port. You start to relax but the sense of safety only lasts for a moment. One of the infected managed to get through the medical checkpoints and is starting to turn. The whole ship descends into chaos. Cut to waking up alone on the beach with nothing left but your trusty flashlight and a bandage.

Question, will there be a "Boot Camp" feature for the standalone?

If so, is there any way to make DayZ standalone Boot Camp just like the Arma 2 Boot Camp but with zombies? If so all you need to do is make it open ended so if someone wants to play single player DayZ they just play boot camp and then keep playing after the tutorial is complete. One reason would be to get a feel for the game, another would be an option to play when traveling and there is no wireless signal.

There are games like assassin's creed for single player, either that or fix/upgrade your Internet.
