About backpacks and glitches

So I found this tent and inside there were some backpacks. Now I already had backpack. What is the safest way to check the content of the backpacks without losing all the precious items inside mine because of some glitch?

Drop your Backpack somewhere safe, on a road will do the job.

Go to tent, take the Backpack and check what it contains

Whenever I put a backpack full of gear into a tent it always comes out empty next time I use it, This happen to anyone else?

"nested" containers' contents are wiped on restart I think.
