New Player needs some help.

Ok so far i have died maybe 7 times. I am having some trouble and im not sure if im playing right. First of all i am enjoying this and i think this game is great. I bought Arma 2 Pre purchase and never played again until i seen this mod. I bought the expansion just for the mod :) .

Im wondering if im doing it wrong.

*I spend almost 95% of the time the first 2 hours crawling or laying still.

*If i am lucky enough to find a weapon in the towns i cant seem to find the right ammo.

* Or i find and keep a ton of ammo on me of all differnt weapons and never find a gun.

*When my vision gets blurry what exactly is happening?

*Is there an easier way to get a weapon or the right ammo?

*Does gear scale up?

Also tonight i had alot of nice ammo ,food,drinks, bandages etc but i never found a gun. Then a glitch from the game came about where i was crawling and for no reason just stood up as i tried to crawl over a curb. The zombies around immediatly ate my face off . Is this a common glitch?

I would love to be able to get some ammo for the right gun etc and kill some zombies,possibly other players, I am having a hard time atm getting anything that will work for me,

Also i did seem to find a lee enfield rifle (no ammo of course) and i picked up an axe. I could never equip the axe but it showed it in my inventory. Is this common?

How many weapons can i hold at once?

Are there alot of different bags with more slots available?

Im sorry if there are a thousand posts like this already. Im just a noob that needs some help from some guys who know the game. Thanks in advance.

I normally try and start in a city Chernogorsk, Elektrozavodsk or the airfield at Balota all this places are close bye. All these places supply weapons, ammo, food, and medical supplies, once their try and go for the hospitals, fire stations, supermarkets and the air control tower. after looting them your pretty much good to go inland. (Warning these placers are bandit magnets)

Yesterday I was cruisin the coast with a Ural when I notice a female player, I stop on the tracks and watch as they crawl up to the truck from behind(lol). They get into the passenger seat and I take off towards Cherno, make it to the appartments where I planned on logging off for the night and leave them with the truck and guns inside it, I get up the stairs and look out the front to see the player crawling all around the truck watching me, made me lol, as we were the only people in the server.

search the wiki and some weapons spawn with a couple of mags..then oyu have to make a habit to spot stuff on the floor. try barns, they are usually easy, 1-2 zeds and no players. they are in the outskirts of towns. you know you can use a hatchet like a weapon don't you?

You don't need to do that. Often times, the slower you're moving, the easier you are to shoot. How were you killed these 7 times, zombies or players?

There are a ton of different guns and ammo, to be sure. Often you'll find them together. You don't need to have a ton when you start, you just need to take your shots wisely. Don't be afraid to just run past zombies, and lead them through chases in small towns. you can lose them by kiting them through buildings as they can only walk inside them. Once you learn this, its pretty easy to survive them.

You might collect all kinds of shotgun shells, but then come across a Lee Enfield... its best to pick up that Enfield and work with it, dropping only what you have to to make room.

It depends, I don't actually think I have seen blurry. There are several things that can happen to you, cold, shock, infection and each have a different effect on you. What caused the blurriness?

*Is there an easier way to get a weapon or the right ammo?

Different weapons and ammos spawn at different locations. What I have done is set a goal to get this or that weapon, and make my way around the map until I have a proper set of gear, then I can move on to more adventuring. Wiki will tell you where to find particular weapons you're interested in.

No. The better gear is found at places that are harder to get to, or harder to survive going in and out of (airfields, military installations.)

There are alot of funky glitches like this in the cities. Hardly any in the countryside. It seems when you get too close to things like walls and cubs and the like that weird stuff happens.

You have to right-click the axe in your inventory and select "use" or "remove from toolbelt" or some command I cant remember, you'll see it. You then have to "reload" it (you'll get 10,00 swings with it). It's really a modded pistol as far as I can tell, which looks like an axe. Enfield rounds are all over the place, you just have to look in the right places.

How many weapons can i hold at once?

That depends on variables. One main, one pistol, then perhaps one in your backpack. Rifle takes 10 slots and a pistol 5 when you put it in your backpack.

Thanks for the information. I never do see a map when I try and bring one up. I also don't have the square display showing how many kills, murders etc . is that server side or is it gone now?

The display you're talking about is the DayZ Debug UI, it has been removed from the default UI. You can get it back in the options menu, but it is buggy now; don't leave it on as it will not display your temp, blood, thirst and hunger rates properly.

For weapons check a Firehouse, Deer stands, and Airfields for Military weapons.

Barns and sheds often contain shotguns, rifles, and other "civilian" types of weapons.

Walkerr, the thing where you suddenly stood up is not completely a "bug" because it's the game doing something on purpose that it thinks it needs to do.

You really can't crawl over a threshold if it's more than about 2 inches tall. Arma2 just has no clue how to do that. It sees the curb as a larger obstacle so, up you go.

On a related note, if you use V to get over a small fence, remember that you will not go back to a crouched state (if you were crouched before vaulting it). You will be completely upright, and thus 100% visible. to Zombies.

And furthermore, know that you move the fastest when you are completely upright. If you are moving in this position, Zombies can NOT hit you because they have to stop for a split second before taking a swing at you. Makes it handy when trying to get away.

The most valuable weapon in the entire game, for about a hundred different reasons, is the axe. No question about it.

Infinite ammo, silent kills, 1 shot kills, etc.

I've emptied a full makarov clip into a cow and was left with no meat, no ammo, and 3 zombies chasing me.

Guns will get you into more trouble than out, when starting out, and even more when fully geared if you aren't careful.

I have many more tips I could give, but you should learn as much as possible on your own. Only one more thing - because this is ridiculous... If you find a hospital, you need to break the glass to get in. And not just any glass. The ones to the far left or far right. /shrugs/
