I think it would actually be cool if it took into account what time of the year it is. So ther would be longer nights in winter, shorter ones in summer.

 

Does having your time set to local with your current time zone selected not do this?

I'm not sure. I don't think the mod did, don't know about the Standalone. The Standalone hasn't been out long enough to know if we will have more daylight in the summer.
