thelonewarrior 886 Posted September 27, 2012 (edited) I had to laugh at the elite sniper bit. They camp in or at hard to reach places?? What on the buildings at the docks in electro? LolEvery bit of this game is made unsafe for anyone elite or not.Nope was just saying as I once had an experience with a sniper, all I had was my L85 and was watching some players in the city. They die without a gunshot in seconds of each other and I look around, dont see anyone in the trees etc.I hide behind a bush and see another player get sniped in the field near me, hear the impact but no shot.I look out and see the smallest glint of heat far away and then die.Later I go and check the position on another server, it was behind a series of rocks and he could perhaps see a 50m square in the city and nothing else. Whoever he was had a very small field of view and waited for people to go there, this made sure no one could see him but he could see the front of a supermarket.Thats elite, and by the way it was 1100m away from the supermarket and he never missed a shot.Could have been a hacker with auto aim, but I think he was legit although im pretty sure he had an AS50 thermal to make those kinda shits and spot people so fast Edited September 27, 2012 by Regulator Lone Warrior
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted September 27, 2012 Me and my buddies have been playing Day-Z for a while now, and we learned pretty quickly that to get away from the Southern coast is to survive. Our rules of engagement are as follows - shoot bandits on sight, but don't engage other players until fired upon first. Two of us have hero skins (my humanity is currently at 20,000, admittedly mainly through healing my group). Now I want to go back down to the south of the map, the place where I first learned the ropes of this game, and actually try to live up to the hero-skin I have. I want to kill those camping sniper-griefers on the hills and tall buildings of Cherno and Elektro, the ones who are terrorising noobs and ruining their game experiences. Is there anyone else who does this? Does anyone have any tips on finding the usual camping grounds of these snipers, preferably with rough map coordinates? What's the best way to engage them - long ranged countersniping, or sneaking up with an automatic weapon and emptying some rounds? As a hero I also carry out this job title heres the coords electro 106/123 and 096/125 cherno 067/120 and 059/124 each set of coords list from east to west first locations are furthest east
Dr.Lyme 88 Posted September 27, 2012 Take a peak at the electro hills near the northern power plant. See those bushes? Half of them are dead ghillies.

This is exactly what I was looking for when I first posted and it's taken this long to get it :)Take a peak at the electro hills near the northern power plant. See those bushes? Half of them are dead ghillies.I lost count of how many times I got sniped near that power plant when I first started playing this gameIt seems to me that there are differing opinions about snipers in this thread, and about PvP in general. The permadeath issue is an interesting one, and I am personally in favour of permadeath. For me, permadeath is a huge part of what DayZ represents - the only realistic zombie apocalypse survival simulator out there. The idea of DayZ as a freeform zombie survival simulator is really the crux of the issue here: I count myself as one of the many people who play DayZ for the survival simulation aspect of it. For me, player interactions, PvP and permadeath play a big part in that. The other camp of people are the ones who treat it as a first person shooter first and foremost, where the fun in DayZ is found in killing other players. I do think it's possible for the two groups to play alongside one another, but I also think that the sniper situation has resulted in a metagame that favours the shooters and discourages survivors from playing. Eventually you snipers will run out of noobs to shoot because you'll have scared them all away from DayZ! The reason I posted this thread in the first place is because I want to even the score a bit.For a while, I toyed with the idea of whether sniper rifles should be removed from the game completely or not for the standalone. I don't think they should. They do have a role to play, although currently, that role is greatly overexaggerated by the overabundance of AS50s, a problem (and it IS a problem) that I sincerely hope will be rectified in the standalone. In the standalone, I would also like to see sniper vantage points in the main cities being much more limited. By that I mean there should not be one vantage point that allows someone to snipe anyone running around any part of the city at will. The other thing I would like to see would be for sniping to be made more difficult. Yes, ArmA 2 sniping is much more realistic than CoD sniping where the bullet always lands where your crosshairs are, but IMO it's still too easy to score a headshot from distance. The game is a realistic zombie survival sim, and in a real life scenario, the vast, vast majority of people are going to be lay folk with no military sniper training. This should be reflected in the game mechanics somehow, by making sniper rifles sway more, by reducing accuracy at range, something like that, becuase in my book, DayZ is still too much of an arcade shooter to be a truly realistic zombie survival sim.tl;dr THE LEVEL OF SNIPING IN THS GAME IS TOO DAMN HIGH Edited September 28, 2012 by Wellseh
Hank_scorpio 41 Posted September 28, 2012 I'm the middle ground .... As-50 wielding hero badass trying to kill as many bandits and guys sniping noobs as possible . That's the middle ground. counter sniping in bigger city's you need to be 1000m out way way out of their view range all their looking for is new players easy kills which useually are running into the city centers . Keep your distance make the shot . No chance to alt-f4 . Job done
irbab00n 21 Posted September 28, 2012 You want to know why all bandits shoot on sight? It's because at one point early in our DayZ lives, we trusted people who stabbed us in the back. Hero skin or not, you cannot trust anyone in DayZ if you expect to live long. Because 9 times out of 10, you will be shot at by the person you come across. I'm not going to wager my time on the 1/10 odds someone isn't going to shoot at me.However, there are some very few cases where if I come across a fresh spawn in Cherno and I manage to sneak up behind them, I will at least tell them to get on the ground and give me their name(s). Depending on how they react, I usually let them live and tell them where any weaponry I've stumbled upon might be. On a side note, people who sit up in the hills and camp like little boys with big toys need to man up and head into the thick of the city and try a real gunfight; that's where the real skill and fun lies. You find out who are the real cowards or real veterans when you take fire in the towns. The few that have stood to fight in the towns makes for a far more intense battle, not knowing if theres just one guy or if someone is running around to flank you is far more interesting then.....bam sniper shot dead, or if they miss and alt f4. Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted September 28, 2012 (edited) THANK YOU. This is exactly what I was looking for when I first posted and it's taken this long to get it :)Be sure to look it over on the map prior to engaging your enemies. You'll want to have your entrance and exit point set up in order to carry out missions with minimal casualties. I tend to approach from the North East corner and head South (downhill) and exfile North West to check the next point this is because I usually dont use sniper rifles I suprise fire on opponents.
