Additional ammo storage on guns

Recommended Posts

Perusing the threads again, nice to see all these ideas being fleshed out fully and all the new ideas being discussed as well.

While searching for an image of a bolt action Russian .22 rifle, I came across an image of a storage set up in the stock of a similar rifle. The top of the stock flipped up, and had small slots where you could store additional ammunition. It would be an interesting addition to some of the weapons in the game, and I would like to see it implemented.

We've also probably seen in a great deal of games shotguns that have additional ammunition slotted on the sides.

Benefits of this would be that the weapon would be able to carry more ammunition on it, instead of the bullets taking up space in your inventory. A small selection menu on the weapon would allow you to transfer the rounds into the gun itself, like loading a shotgun, or by moving the rounds to the appropriate magazines.

For instance, you have a pump action shotgun, with this additional ammunition on the side. You fire a couple of shots to put a zed down, and want to reload. So, you could right click on the weapon, and the option 'reload from additional' (or something similar) would appear, allowing you to reload right from the weapon.

You should also be able to replace these now reloaded rounds from the loose ammunition in your inventory, in the same fashion.

Some weapons might be able to be found like this, but I think it would be more rewarding, personally, to be able to make the extra storage yourself. The stocks of rifles could be customized to have a similar effect, with some sort of way to make one that could hold extra ammunition. Shotguns could have small metal racks attached, or perhaps cloth straps that would hold extra shells.

Machine guns, pistols, and automatic weapons in general wouldn't have this kind of addition, as there wouldn't be being able to carry a few extra rounds on the gun itself. And pistols with this sort of addition would look silly and be unwieldy as hell.

Thoughts and suggestions?

Or just a bandolier that is standard issue in the army. Can hold six extra M4 mags and you drape it over your body like a satchel.

Honestly I'd never thought of bandoliers before. They'd likely function like the extra webbing and specialized storage that's supposed to make it into the game. But, bandoliers = +1 badass.

I like the idea of compressing our room for more items other than ammunition.. Yes.

Sounded kind of sarcastic...

I don't think that's what he meant. I think he meant like freeing up the inventory for other things. (He gave me beans after all. Yummy!)

Oh when the stand alone comes out i hope there is all kinds of shit like this. Lever action rifle, revolver, bandolier, cowboy hat. I would so do themed characters. I do hope the gun damage is balance though. To be honest if you are shot in the head with a 9 mm and an AS 50 the ending result (now I realize an AS 50 would completely remove your head) is death. Very -very- few people survived a dome hit from a hand gun. I don't see why they should in the game. THe range and accuracy should be the real differences in weapons.

Heh. Gets a little off the topic of what I'm suggesting, but I would enjoy seeing a bunch of people going around in Eastwood-esque outfits. I would also enjoy hearing movie quotes spoken with mouthfuls of sand.

Not sure why gun damage issues came into discussion here though, I'm suggesting additional storage for ammunition on the weapons themselves.

TL;DR

But I agree on title level at least, would nice to have double mags for assaultrifles. With Tape of somesort or with specific accessory

I was fairly sure someone had already suggested doubling up assault magazines, but I'd be all for it. Duct tape plus two magazines. Makes the gun heavy as all hell though.

Definitely, but they should start by having the weapon take in the current mag you are using so it doesn't take up inventory space, and you don't have to reload it every time you switch weapons.

Magazines aren't that heavy, neither is a bit of duck tape. lol

It of course depends on the weapon and the type of ammunition, but, doubling the weight of the ammunition carried would indeed make the weapon weigh enough to make it uncomfortable to hold. They're adding a weight/stamina/fatigue system I do believe. It would be plausible that a weapon with doubled magazines and/or this additional storage would weight more.

But true, an AK-47 magazine barely weighs more than two pounds when fully loaded.

That's ~25% of the loaded weapon's weight.

In a system where weapon handling is dependent on weight (a 2 pound pistol should be easier to swing around and aim two-handed than a 10 pound sniper rifle by about a factor of 5), then this sort of thing would be interesting. Adding an extra AK clip would be the equivalent of trying to aim and fire an AK-47 with a Glock duct-taped to its belly.

I sincerely hope weapon handling is implemented, where it takes a longer amount of time to aim a weighted down weapon than the normal counterpart. Obviously, a few extra rounds clipped to the side of a weapon or inserted into a modified stock aren't going to affect it that much, though it would be nice to see some sort of added performance characteristic.
