There's a difference between "Bandits" and "Snipers"

Recommended Posts

Bandits -

-Steal

-Cheat

-Lie

-Use whatever means necessary to help them survive.

-Will betray you sometimes, and will often shoot people with decent gear, if that person's path/life may eventually interfere with their own survival.

-Often have morals. As a former Bandit by heart, I had a mental rule to never shoot unarmed/medic/hero. I too want Dayz to be fun, even if I was a Bandit. I simply take from those who have gotten things and scavenged for themselves. It's like the food chain, there are people who scavenge, and people who take from the scavengers. It's a simple concept really, but don't get "Bandits" mixed up with other factions of Dayz. Bandits don't just use snipers, they use whatever is the appropriate weapon of killing under the circumstances. So, if someone is a solid 400meters away in Stary Sabor, and I (a Bandit, Hypothetically) want to check Stary Sabor for the grocery store/military tents/car, then I would have no problem eliminating that person from 400m away with a sniper, so that my life would not be endangered in the process of looting, and hey, maybe they had some key pieces of survival equipment, so that's a bonus! Please, do not get them mixed up with:

-Snipers: People who sit on hills, and try to get a high kill count.

-Hackers: You are stupid if you make this comparison.

-Dicks: Yea you get the point.

-Bandits aren't any of these, just simply people trying to survive in a game through different means than survivors. That's all, thanks for reading my little rant :]

~And now let the Dayz community tear me apart for something I said or missed~

EDIT: When I say snipers, I mean in context of the usual sniper in this game, not the term from RL. And no one can argue with the fact that 98% of "Snipers" in this game sit on hills outside of Elektro/Cherno/Stary.

Yup. But 90% of the Snipers in DayZ tend to be bandits since they get the advantage of not being seen and distance between the sniper and the survivor.

Not once have I seen a Sniper on the hills above Elektro that hasn't at least shot at me while I'm unarmed and pose no threat.

You missed the point, he is saying the guys being dicks on sniper hill murdering new spawns for absolutely no gain are not playing as bandits they are just flat out dicks (I hate people who claim it stops that person from gearing up, it doesn't since they will respawn within minutes with the same starting loadout that you just shot them for). I pull some huge dick moves when not in Chernarus (if you see me on side chat in any other map do not believe a single thing I say, I am with a group and I will murder you), but even I draw the line at new spawn sniping. Bandits are attempting to survive while also playing hostile, the correct word for the other type of players are dicks and deathmatchers because they have no interest in surviving and just want to kill people.

Using a sniper as part of a team gives you an awesome tactical advantage and can provide great overwatch support, so there is nothing inherently cheap about sniping it just tends to become cheap in the hands of assholes. I have new spawn sniped a few times and found out two things about myself as a player, I lack patience to sit on a hill waiting for people and I do not enjoy killing people who have no shot of fighting back. I have tried every play style this game has to offer (well legitimate play style) and that is by far the cheapest and dumbest one available (plus most of these guys are dupers, scripters, and exploiters because new spawn sniping is dangerous with people like me rolling up on the North side of both towns looking for some glowing bushes).

Actually this is a sniper (quoted from wikipedia)

A sniper is a highly trained marksman who operates in one- to two-man teams which maintain close visual contact with the enemy and engages targets from concealed positions or physical distances exceeding the detection capabilities of the enemy personnel, without being detected. These sniper teams operate independently, with little combat asset support from their parent units. Snipers typically have highly selective and specialized training and use high-precision rifles and optics, and often have sophisticated communication assets to feed valuable combat information back to their units.

In addition to marksmanship, military snipers are trained in camouflage, field craft, infiltration, reconnaissance and observation.[1] Snipers are especially effective when deployed within the terrain of urban warfare, or jungle warfare.

Anything else is a bandit/wannabe sniper/ wannabe bandit/sniper kiddie shit with an inflated ego and sense of worth out of proportion to themselves to the point it may effect the earths gravitational field.

Semantics, a vital backbone of internet arguments everywhere.

I like semantics :)

Anyway as i was once qualified as one I get irritated by kiddies in this game 50 cal'ing people from 600 meters and thinking they are knowledgable pro snipers and even ignoring that just within the realm of the game the OP's definition of a sniper is just horseshit.

I don't know. I felt your argument lacked sufficient precision, purpose and reasoning. Or what there was, was flawed. But that's just my view.

My current "endgame" is to try and hunt snipers, particularly those that spawn in to the highest building in Cherno and snipe noobs with their DMR. Almost impossible to get them, one this is one pissed off grandpa who wants to protect his noobs.

My favorite part is where you make bandits seem like they're more moral than snipers, or like sniping is a seperate category of survivors/bandits.

News flash, if you're a sniper you're still either a bandit or survivor, the intent of your kill doesn't really change the fact that you killed them.

You may want to distinguish yourself from other players killing, but the only way to do that is to not be a killer.

So yes, not all bandits are snipers, or hackers or dicks, that doesn't make you and better or worse than a sniper or dick.

Fuck hackers though, you are better than them. I'll give you that.

I counter snipe occasionally and I'm a Hero, does that make me an anomaly?

Bandits have morals, yes. On my current character I am a bandit, but considering I don't need any gear, I don't need to hold anyone up and rob them. I don't lie to an extent, either, depending upon who or what I'm dealing with.

The Op made a good argument.

The thing OP is bandits are good for the game yes. Those "Dicks" as you put it, coupled with "hackers" have made the gamers in the game so skiddish that -they also shoot you-

Your "groupings" also

Bandits, Snipers, Hackers, Survivors, and heroes can all be put into the "dicks" file when we think about it.

I look up to a good bandit (One with morals as you said) Just isn't a lot of people willing to -not- pull the trigger

You truly are one of "those guys" of the internet.

No, not at all if you read through my history of posts here. It's just that I've played this game for a while now and been on these forums for just as long and see a lot of these type of posts that seem to say nothing but

"hey I play this way because I'm awesome".

The game is sandbox and that means it's upto you how you play and it's upto the next guy how he plays and takes enjoyment from the game. Either way is fine, there is no right way and there is no wrong way. Equally there's no need to come here to tell people that one way is crap, one way is awesome or boast that this is what you do.... just go do it! In my personal experience i think it tends to be those who can't do it, talk about it more anyway!

from my experience, sniping takes SOME skill with the m107, however as50.... 10 shots in a few seconds, just spray and you WILL hit once, and you only need to hit once

annyoing, but yes, bandits are generally people killing other people in dayZ without provocation or self-defense

ima bandit, and a sniper, but i refrain from sniping people down in cherno/elektro, only if they sit on a roof (cherno is awesome to countersnipe)

DMR rules (up to 800 meters)

Never have been a fan of .50'in people from a mile away, much prefer a proper skirmish/gunfight up in the north compared to the coastal crap.

The only legit Snipers, as far as im concerned, are snipers who play in clans. Clans need more utility. Their firefights generally revolve around killing other clans. Solo players are best with an assualt rifle IMO. AKM is probably overall the easiest and best to pick up and it can be Zeroed up to 800m.

I am a bandit sniper, come at me. I've taken time to learn the art of sniping, practiced many hours in ArmA2, learnt how to rangefind on the fly. I will not camp Elektro or Cherno but if I see you anywhere north of those areas, I will engage you, preferably from a distance
