So I was running along the coast road on some server with a public chat. Well not on the coast road, up the hill looking down on the coast road, and i saw two guys running down the road medicore gear - being chased by zeds. Then I scope at them and let some shots fly, I've never shot at anyone moving before so i missed a few before i bagged one down, all the while I was shooting at them (With that gun with the infrared) they were on the global comms begging me not to kill them, but I did anyway.

I think its the first legit bandit kill I've landed, I felt like an asshole after doing it, but they were on the coast so they can respawn untill they find their corpses again. But is this the end game of Day-Z for a casual player? I havent committed to any specific server yet - am i supposed to just horde things?

What do you guys do in DayZ after you get geared up?

Well, everyone is technically an asshole on DayZ, and there are very few that show compassion in sparing lives, and even then they keep a fair distance.

I tend to stay away from the south once I get my gear, and just live on from there.

Kinda happens with no clan, no friends.... shooting others, making no attempt to make new friends or join a clan.. must be a lonely and boring life out there alone... cold... vunerable..

In answer to what i do when a gear up - i dont gear up anymore, at least not to the extent i used to. Now, i like to wander the coast with my axe and get into adventures - a bit like that old TV show Kung Fu where he walked the earth and beat up anyone doing wrong.

Do you think thats why the player count has dropped so low? People have experienced what it has to offer? I mean i tried the whole clan thing but got bored of following a team mate around who literally just wanted to hide all the vehicles to himself in a big stockpile. Or do people join clans to just PvP.

Nah people have just realized survival aint as easy as they think. Meh clans PvP because they see everything as a threat really... only when we catch someone off gaurd do we communicate, any other time it's a shoot to kill policy

Not really, pretty par for the course. I was playing fallujah yesterday and I saw a guy in the barracks at the airfield while my buddy and I circled above in a chopper. The guy called out friendly and I asked if he wanted me to take out some zombies with the machine gun and he said sure, I took out about 15 or twenty and the guy pops out with a sniper rifle pointed at us. Now he probably was just looking at us but I decided to light him up anyways.

Now that is being an asshole.

Yea I am trying to justify being a Dick, but in reality he was just looking at us and probably would not have made the shot anyways. I figure these new maps are geared toward PVP, so as they say when in Rome go on psychopathic murder sprees (I think that is the saying).

here is whar you can do after you are fully geared up, place all your gear and put it in a tent, then save the tent, then take all your gear out and dont save.

Keep doing this until everyone has all the same gear as you to make it more challenging.

As for what to do, use your imagination. It's a bit like playing with Legos, you can't win but that doesn't mean there is nothing to do.

Personally, the last few days I've been auditing peoples camps, enforcing my idea of what the weapons balance should be. All AS50s, M107s, and L85s with associated ammo go on the ground. If there are any hacked weapons in your camp everything gets destroyed. If you've got a nice legit camp I might donate some food or a few meds to your tent. I'm sure I'll get board with this sooner or latter but then I'll just find something else to do.

That's because 9 out of 10 times that guy you let live shoots you in he back soon as he gets a gun. Everyone is friendly until they get the advantage or have a gun.

I'm pretty geared now, but when this life eventually ends I'm not intending to "gear" up.

I might pick up a crossbow and a 1911, limit myself to a 6 slot vest pouch, and go from there. Would definitely be more challenging to be a bandit that way than a bandit with a DMR, AKM, M9 SD and all the other good gear like I'm doing now.

I figure with an infinite number of ways to play the game, I should be able to find more challenge somewhere.

No, you're not an asshole for killing someone who uses global comms. Quite the contrary.

Any time I'm on a a private server that ends up having Side Chat enabled, I make it a point to slay anyone I can find who uses sidechat (text or voice). I never say that's why I kill them (I never talk to them in the first place), but it's my way of silently punishing people who think side chat is a good thing. They never know that's the only reason I shot them, but it's hilarious to me all the same. My own personal and silent enjoyment.

I much prefer servers without side chat, but if I end up getting a hankering for Lingor/etc. and I happen to unwittingly hit one that has sidechat, it just becomes a personal game of "hunt the chatter queens" which is almost a bonus in of itself. What they don't know (that I only killed them for using sidenchat) doesn't bother them, and I get the satisfaction of killing idiots. Everybody wins.

side chat is great, I have gotten a lot of help using side chat and have not once gotten killed because of it...you sir are just a douche who finds stupid reasons to do crap like this and use side chat to "justifiy" your actions...

I gave you beans despite somewhat liking text sidechat, I get that it is an "immersion" breaker (had to put it in quotes because I find the whole idea of immersion to be complete BS but that is just an opinion) but it can be cool to talk with people who just killed you or someone in your group. It can encourage group play, but mostly it encourages people to do stupid things like give away their position for an easy murder for my group. I am not constantly spamminig the side chat, but if someone starts saying something concrete and I am near them I will play friendly to gain information. They learn an important lesson everytime, do not give up your position to assholes on side chat it will not end well.

I had a great helicopter battle with a group on Fallujah (five deaths total from the fight, only one survivor) and when I came back later I did strike up a conversation with the group that eventually led to a Skype call and a night of teaming up, it was made possible by that incredibly annoying feature of private servers (it was only us on the server at the time so it really was not ruining other players time on the server). They should add an easy way to disable the function for those of us who do not really care for the feature.

I am still laughing to myself right now as I look back on the multiple kills that were made possible by people on side chat.

Why does it matter to you? Since I don't talk to my kills the victim has no idea that's the only reason I killed them and that I would've let them continue to run along otherwise unharmed. Since they don't know, they don't care and they move on. Why are you getting so angry? Nobody has to get angry here. Although now that you know, just be careful if you see me on the server and you start talking in side chat. Like I said, I'll never reply/acknowledge side chat. But it's a free target list for me :D I just don't understand why you're upset when even my victims can't be upset (because they don't know).
