I get the occasional 2-3-4 second long stuttering when playing

Recommended Posts

I get the occasional 2-3-4 second long stuttering when playing and I don't know why this happens.

I will have to try going back to default settings and see if it helps, but I wanted to make this thread in case someone else had this issue as well and have learned what might have caused it.

Up until now, I have not bothered with this issue, as it never really impacted gameplay, except for yesterday when I was about to get my revenge armed with an enfield with 4 shots left. Just as I was about to gun down two players that had shot me previously, my game turned into a slide show and I died. >.<

Presumably my issue could be related to various factors:

config files, I tweaked them according to various articles

possibly Catalyst drivers for my radeon 7950 card (same stuttering with my older 5850 card as well, with an older driver)

maybe something to do with Windows 7 and my harddrives (game is installed on an SSD, with DayZ files residing on a ramdisk)

Edit: My 74 GB'ish SSD drive only has 1,3 GB free space left, perhaps that might have something to do with all of this as well.

The new patch must of increased the polygons in stuff, because my computer has gone to shit last time I played.

it's your HDD loading textures too slowy or not enough Ram, defrag your HDD & delete all the pron ;)

Hehe, I use a SSD, have 8GB ram, no defrag neccessary on an SSD and I don't think I have that much pron on my machine. Quad core cpu, running at 4GHz with multithreading enabled.

Does this happen on every server?

- I have noticed that some servers has this issue and it was annoying (fps drops 40++ -> 20-- ) for 2-4 seconds)

Arma 2 singleplayer when heavy action?

I have same problem. It seems to do that when some scripts run. Like zombie and loot spawns. Does not happen everytime just sometimes. Usually in towns or another places with lots of zombies and loot.

I've noticed this, when you get a battleye message(s) you get a little pause/skip.

Don't EVER fill your SSD up like that.

Only 50% should be used, as the TRIM is always trying to relocate your files and for that it needs space.

Very well, I uninstalled Battlefield 3, and now have 17 GB free space (25% approx) I sort of knew it was bad to have so little storage space left.

Hm perhaps it could also be server related, never thought of that.

I want to add that the fraps counter on screen is obviously lowered when I experience this 2-3-4 second stuttering, but I guess the indication of a lowered FPS is to be expected.

I usually get a few seconds of heavy lag when Battleye restarts. Next time this happen check the chat log for any messages that say battleye is restarting. I'm guessing this is your problem.

I noticed something strange today. I was driving a motorcycle with a passenger and jumped off the motorcycle to perchance fix a damaged wheel.

I jumped off, got back on and then the lag started (fps stuttering), for a really long time, 10+ seconds, for a period of time that has never happened before. When the lag ended, the motorcycle was fixed.

Perhaps there is some piece of code running on the server that makes the game lag?

Code doesn't change polygons, the amount reside in the model and its quality.

What servers?

I have spent over an hour trying out my favorite servers and they all sucked.

1347 seems to have no lag at the moment.
