Ye olde direct voip fiasco.

Recommended Posts

I'll be brief so I don't encounter the old tl;dr nonsense:

Direct voip is pretty damn important. I find myself bypassing many trade opportunites and have had to shoot people who probably just took me for a bandit (just because I was I was wearing a bandit skin - TYPICAL :P ) because I can never be sure it will work.

Who here has the low down on the situation? I've bound my own key to direct comms, my mic works fine I know because I've talked to some people and been strength / clarity 10 / 10 but others say they can't hear me at all. And I can't hear them even when they tell me they're transmitting. Sometimes I can see their character's lips moving, but still hear no sound.

Is this a server issue, a player issue (people not setting their sound up right) a combination of both?

Additionally: I move that we sticky a post about direct comms and the necessity of binding it to it's own key. I'm almost certain that unless you do that it won't work at all. I've bumped into people who said they've never got it to work, given them this advice, and had them come straight on "hello hello testing". So whatever else is up it looks like that is a necessary first step. Get those who want to taking the first step.

I just think this is a big issue because I've met a lot of bandits who only killed because they couldn't talk.

I got mine to work by making a specific button (home) assigned to PTT for direct. Then, in game, don't change channels. That's just me though.

Yah, I've heard about the don't change channel thing but I have DEFINITELY switched channels and still had my push to talk direct comms key work fine. I can't imagine why cycling channels LOTS would make a difference....?

I don't know man, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Last night, I ran into two guys, one yelled, "FRIENDLY!" on Direct, I responded the same to him on direct.

Not too long ago, I tried to tell my friend something. I'll skip to the point, I talked to myself for an hour, before giving up, and talking in Side, THEN he heard me.

I'm twelve years old and what is this?

Theres gotta be a fix or a work around or something. Communication is the single most important entity in a mod like this. Rocket has said though that he believes it to be an issue with the player grouping, or something, and that when they changed it to one big group or whatever (back in 1.4) it took DC along with it. He says that for now the hope for it working is an official Arma2 patch.

Well thats a damnable shame. I consider the lack of reliable Direct voip to be THE most annoying glitch so far - it utterly murders immersion and many aspects of cooperative play.

At the risk of sounding like (read: Being) a self-entitled nob-biscuit, is there any way this could become a bigger priority than other updates? I would honestly be happy rolling back o pre 1.4 versions JUST to get that working; Though I probably shouldn't question the methods of such a self-evidently talented Modder as Rocket. Fo' serius.

It is a bug with ArmA2. Sickboy tested and confirmed. Passed onto the code team for next ArmA2 patch.

Rolling back means anyone could dupe any item at all, very easily, avoid any death/damage. It is wait for the ArmA2 fix, or put up with mass exploits. I chose wait.

And that's why I probably shouldn't question your methods. Meanwhile in an alternate dimension:

So when are you going to get round to fixing all these ****s spawning down at chern with mg's - I have to spend ten minutes blah blah blah blah AND WHAT ABOUT THIS DIRECT VOIP - SOME GUY KEEPS TALKING AT ME AND IT'S ANNOYING RANT

: D

Thanks for the explanation rocket, I'll pass it around. I'm sure the code team will get right on it after the company sees how much money you're making them!

I sure hope they fix it soon. Not having a stable Direct communications affects the way this game works so much. Trying to meet up with someone means having to announce to the whole server your position. Not to mention it gets annoying seeing everyones text conversations..

Plus you can't stop to type something out while running from a horde of zombies.

Good that the culprit has been identified.

I can see a hassle in the horizon already when servers must force ppl to use beta patch and forums are flooded with "why can't I connect"-topics.

I hope direct communication gets fixed too soon. It's definitely holding back gameplay on the servers.
