codave 121 Posted September 19, 2012 There was an incident last night that I feel a bit guilty about. It happened on one of the US Dallas servers, 2139 or something like that. At some point I realized that there was only myself, and one other person on the server still playing. As part of my normal loot route, I pass through Balota Airfield several times a play session. Half the time it's empty, half the time I end up in a firefight, sniped, or otherwise engaged. Due to the nature of the loot in the area, and the many players that it brings, I'm usually on my toes. Anyway, as I'm checking the hangars I turn around to see the only other player on the server proned out near the entrance, pointing a DMR in my direction. I rushed and started putting 3 round bursts into him, and what I hear over direct chat is "Dude, I'm friendly..."At the time it didn't bother me. I assumed since he said nothing until I started shooting, had snuck up on me, and was pointing a weapon in my direction, that the player was hostile. However, something about the tone of the voice over direct seemed sincere in retrospect. By the time I had eaten dinner and gone to bed I felt bad about it. So, player Gambit, I'm sorry if you truly were friendly. There was no way for me to tell since you didn't initiate conversation before I initiated contact. I don't feel guilty about the 6 other people I murdered for gear that day, but for some reason I do with this one. Strange.

Tabris07 159 Posted September 19, 2012 I don't typically act as a bandit, but if I see someone prone and aiming their weapon at me, I would kill them without hesitation too. There was no way for you to know. If you had paused to check if he was friendly, you could have been the one killed.
nicraM 137 Posted September 19, 2012 Fucking CoD kiddies, ruining the game. Go play some BO12, breh!

codave 121 Posted September 19, 2012 The thread is mostly for that player, if he reads the forums. It's also for people who don't know any better, and will wonder why they were shot for a similar action. So yeah, cool story bro, etc. sure. Also, I've never played CoD, so I can't tell if that was for me or someone else.
L0ngJohnson 1 Posted September 19, 2012 Met a bandit near Cherno suburbs, he shot me once (AK74Kobra), I told him Im friendly (looks like he didn't expect me to appear so close), then he screams "FRIENDLY! SOMEONE HAD SHOT ME! STAND STILL!", then did 2 shots at my direction and I killed him with a burst (M16A203). Sometimes words are just time earner.Lately, I've injured guy running from zombies, then said sorry many times while running for him, we understood each other and I transfered him some blood. Never know what is right to do next.
kebman 213 Posted September 19, 2012 He was pointing his gun in your general direction, so I think it was fair to shoot him. I try to find cover in those situations, and then maybe say hello. On the other hand, if there are none to be found, I'll rather be the last one to die. However, for future reference, if you're uncertain about his intentions, just leave his body so that he may find his stuff again. Balota is pretty close to a few spawns anyway. Pennyworth (DayZ) 33 Posted September 19, 2012 I typically yell friendly to other players as a distraction before I end up killing them and looting/Hiding there bodies.... Last night on lingor we lured some people to the prison under the assumption that we were friendly and wanted some extra help farming the prison's 4 barracks. We were really greatful that they were willing to stop off at a hospital to grab us some supplies before we ambushed them enroute and set fire to there vehicle afterwards.Great story? I dont think so..In a world of death and sorrow, where everyone is fighting for that last can of beans. Dont trust people you dont know. Everyone has there own agenda. puppetworx 474 Posted September 19, 2012 Ooohh, sounds like OP is in looove. :DI play this game almost entirely as a friendly because it's more challenging. Shoot-on-sight is for the weak and the scared, 95% of players do it according to a survey I just made up. Knowing who to trust and when to trust them is a far harder skill to master then clicking a mouse button. It adds a lot more variety and in my opinion is more entertaining too. That said, I would've killed him too. That's one shady muffucka.
Mandalore (DayZ) 76 Posted September 19, 2012 I wouldn't trust anyone I don't already know with a sniper rifle no matter what they say.* wears a ghillie suit, armed with m107 and dmr** The irony is I'm actually friendly and have never ever shot another player
trylan 25 Posted September 19, 2012 if he was friendly then why just sitting there aiming at you instead of trying to move forward to make contact...? you gotta wonder about that :/ (as you said you were the only two on the server)
Jaqlada 6 Posted September 19, 2012 It was okay to shoot him in my mind.. A gun aimed at me, saying friendly, only seems like a chance to blow my head off. Seeing a player in general, I will try to avoid them.. For the most part I'm pretty nice about what I do.. If I'm in elektro, I sneak up from the west and snipe any snipers on the hill killing poor little noobs :D.
codave 121 Posted September 19, 2012 I'm not saying I wish I hadn't shot him. I'm enjoying his DMR very much, actually.

crockett (DayZ) 41 Posted September 19, 2012 (edited) Everyone is friendly until they have a gun or an advantage on you. I've let countless new spawns live only to have a few of them come back & shoot me in the back.. Now I just kill them all and let the respawns sort them out.
