ruggermike (DayZ) 7 Posted September 16, 2012 This is not an 'anti-bandit' suggestion, but is rather a suggestion to more realistically represent what happens to the physical objects carried by an individual when they experience life-ending trauma. How many pictures of war casualties or gangland murders have we seen where the victim is missing one or both shoes for no apparent reason...ask any combat veteran what the area surrounding a firefight looks like when it's over, how much broken equipment there is scattered around seemingly at random. The .50 calibre sniper rifles are all classified as 'anti-material' weapons...why don't they have any effect on the material being worn or carried by a player when shot with one?Even a clean headshot makes a nasty mess that could soak a map in blood and gore...not to mention what happens in a close range fight where the combatants fire multiple rounds at center mass, where bullets will penetrate the body and the cans of food in the pack...and why is all that gear in perfect working order when zombies just finished ripping and clubbing me to death and chewing on random parts of my anatomy?Simple suggestion: run a destroyed check against a random % chance for all gear a player is carrying at the time of their death...remove the gear that is destroyed.Complex suggestion: weight the destroyed check by calilber of weapon, location of wounds, and number of rounds or zombies causing death. The genesis of this suggestion is the realization that every player is an automated 'loot filter' for other players, a walking treasure chest of the most desirable survival gear...and that shooting them preserves this gear in perfect condition regardless of the circumstances, which is just nonsensical...I'm not suggesting punishing a particular playstyle...but I am suggesting providing a realistic and practical reason to communicate/share/trade for those who aren't interested in killing other survivors just for the sake of murdering people.
John Spectre 32 Posted September 16, 2012 No.well thought out sir, but I tend to disagree with your position lolSure, we need more loot sinks in the game, otherwise it will slowly but surely fill with AS50s.
bazbake 456 Posted September 17, 2012 well thought out sir, but I tend to disagree with your position lolSure, we need more loot sinks in the game, otherwise it will slowly but surely fill with AS50s.A recent poll on these forums showed that about 70% of players owned .50 caliber rifles and 50% of players specifically owned AS50's. So...too late.
Dianeces 2 Posted September 17, 2012 A recent poll on these forums showed that about 70% of players owned .50 caliber rifles and 50% of players specifically owned AS50's. So...too late.Of course, were you to take two seconds to think about those results, you'd realise that the vast majority of those come from hackers. And that because of this, they are significantly over-represented.
Tourdion 11 Posted September 17, 2012 (edited) I think that is an interesting idea.Low caliber body shots - chance to impact the backpack, vest or belt and destroy fragile items such as blood bags, cans, magazines and so on.High caliber body shots - higher chance to destroy fragile items and a chance to render useles or severely damage items such as weapons, scopes or attachments.Low and high caliber headshots - To be honest, I doubt a NVG device can take a bullet and still working properly, even a makarov shot can disable them (i think) . A .50 shot in the head should just obliterate any device you were using.Explosions - I guess it depends on the explosion strength, but a car blowing up, satchel charges or a close grenade can damage or destroy (at least scatter over the place) some of your gear. (satchels specially should send flying both the victim and the gear into the moon to never been seen again)Shooting people with high powered ammunition should be a risk if what you want is their gear. Kerwyn 77 Posted September 17, 2012 I like this suggestion, adds a nice risk/reward balance to the the mental calculation as you are deciding whether or not to blast that random person running to kingdom come. Worst case scenario, nothing changes and it simply acts as a simple way to drain some of the loot surplus from a server. Best case is you see bandits teaming up, opting instead to actually act like bandits and rob people in order to preserve their supplies, which leads to a more social environment, which leads to more fun. For everyone actually, as it's far more fun to be held at gun point as bandits rummage your patrol pack than to be picked off from 600m by a sniper you had no chance against. starwarsfan@gmx.de 450 Posted September 17, 2012 I really like the idea and think it would add alot to the game. Another reason to go for that headshot, instead of just spraying bullets everywhere. But only the complex suggestion should be considered, the simple one just doesn't feel right to me.
Cappin Caveman 7 Posted October 25, 2012 It might also be really nice to be able to shoot gear off of players, destroying it in the process. Perhaps shooting weapons out of hands or sniping someones NVG's right off of their head at night. It would allow more options than just shooting to kill. Zeppa 562 Posted October 26, 2012 (edited) Weapon/equipment durability is already possibility in standalone and I care to say that it will be in it, least at some point.Rocket have said in his interview about this, used exsample about NVGs and head shot having possibility to damage or break them.
