We could find basic guns without attachments, and find attachments for them as loot.

So like how the M4 is a barbie doll for men IRL, it could be like that in DayZ.

Slap on a HOLO sight, a Silencer, a flashlight, maybe a laser for hip fire....

Damn, I want it badly.

Hopefully something that'll come around in the Standalone.

As long as we can't personalize the weapons though, I'll take my M14AIM over any gun for now. It's nice and simple and gets the job done. Plus it looks badass when you're executing bandits in a 5 man firing squad.

Anyone else agree with customizable weapons?

I think it would be an interesting feature, but I'd have to say if such a thing were to be implemented it'd have to be extremely hard to acquire, and the options would need to be very limited.

Such as...

Customizations:

Flashlight

Red-Dot Reflex Scope (Assault Rifles only - no scopes on pistols for the love of god)

Suppressor

Camo paint job

I wouldn't think anything more than this would be a good idea, and this is stretching it for me, personally.

I'd think the option to attach a flashlight or a suppressor (and thus be able to only use SD ammo) would be perfectly fine. I'd LOVE to have an AKM with a flashlight, for instance.

As per the flashlight attachment idea, I would like to highlight that I think that you starting out with a flashlight is fine if you can just attach it to your primary gun (perhaps requiring some scrap metal and a toolkit!). Especially the military flashlight. I'd love to see that on an Enfield or something.

However, this should go in suggestions not general, shouldn't it?

For snipers and rifles, wouldn't it be logical to, if you find tape (always handy in the Apocalyps) and pluck some leaves, grass, mud, that you would be able to camo-fy your sniper/rifle? Offcourse, after time, it would fade out / fall apart.

Or if you find spray-cans, you would be able to spraypaint cars, weapons, etc.

In fairness, a retired royal marine I knew, skirmished with a hot pink M4A1, mags and all, and he was the baddest mofo Iv'e met in a long time...

In relation to OP, I think we need to go even deeper here :D I want to be able to adjust my trigger pull, gas tube, ejection port, EVERYTHING. But not in a military style way, i'm thinking bastardised, duct-taped, hammer together rubbish that would make a gun nuts eyes bleed cordite!

i think you should have to atleast clean your weapon or use oil to make it work. i mean swimming in salt water with a as50 then 2 seconds out of the water shooting rounds on bit shit. definetly need to have some kind of repair or maint for weapons

Danka :D oiling your weapons would be great too, but gun oil would have to be fairly rare(but not 1/10000 to find sorta thing), because if memory serves a single bottle lasts a good while. I think parts of the weapon should wear out over time, for instance, you have an M4A1, after stock whipping a zombie goes wrong, a crack appears along the stock, this will cause stock wobble which will make it a little harder to aim, you could try to find a new one or you could get a stick and batter/beat/saw/glue/tape/pray it onto the end of your weapon, or even find a foot lathe, some scrap metal, and some tools and machine yourself a new one, admittedly looking like some blind eastern rebel had been to it.

I would prefer kind of "mister fixit" improvements in the style of metro 2033, duck taped laser pointer, DIY tincan flash hider or spent shell collectors (possibility for hand reloading maybe?).

Keep in mind specialised optics are quite fragile and some of them use specific mounting clamps and/or batteries that will be a bitch to replace.

But if we get detachable optics, they should have windage and elevation knobs and everytime they are mounted on a new gun the windage and elevation should be reset at completely random settings.

I like the idea of having to sight in your rifles. Also, hard use should make them slip every now and again, like if you get knocked unconscious while carrying a rifle or hit the ground while running, there's a chance when you hit the ground for the sights to get knocked a bit.

I'd be all for jury rigging stuff too. Also, I'd like suppressors to work like they do in the real world. Less report with all ammo types, normal ammo gives a non-directional sonic boom sound when it goes by, SD ammo is effectively silent.
