Usually the overflowing items will spawn around the tent a few moments later.

100% agreed, tents don't destroy items under normal circumstances, instead the items end up on the ground but they can be some distance away from the tent so have a good look round.

Yeah, flashlights, maps, toolboxes, all that stuff counts as weapons in the tent. I got into some trouble when I had a weird match fetish. I didn't find a single box of matches for the first two weeks I played, so when I finally started finding them, I'd put them in my tent. After a while, I had a hoard of matches and no place to put guns.

This is a good point.

I will add to it though.

Tools count as primary weapons. Remember to count maps, compasses, watches etc when putting the big guns in a tent.
