IF this was an actual game...

Recommended Posts

Shit is gettin serious.

If this was made as a stand alone game, or as part of some particular existing game, what kind of consumer model would you want to play it on?

How would you rather pay for it?

- Game purchase with Monthly fee? (WoW stylez)

- Game purchase only? (Guild Wars stylez)

- Free to play, buy your shit?

- Something else?

Also:

- Community developed or studio developed?

- Community or studio servers? or both?

- Kickstarter? or not?

Please try and stick to short sentences, its much easier for me to get broad feedback.

-Game purchase only a la Guild Wars 2 style (with maybe cosmetic ONLY items that have 0 impact on gameplay and nothing more)

-Studio Developed

-I think have a mixture would be awesome but preferably studio.

-Yes to Kickstarter. Couldn't hurt.

In the game's current state, none of the above.

- Give us the ability to host our own private servers (like Minecraft)

- Fix the hacker problem (I know you're working on that)

- Give us something to do rather than play deathmatch in Cherno, because surviving is ridiculously easy

Meeting the above criteria, I'd like to just buy the game. These in game purchases are a wrought and the people that use them are preying on human nature to gamble. Don't be a cunt, and just sell us the game for like $20 or something like that, and we will buy it and like it.

Also, having a strong community development/modding ability would be super. If you go with a modding SDK of sorts, we could have all kinds of crazy shit you'd probably not have thought of and/or had time to add anyway.

You've said it in every interview, minecraft model. Small fee, you get to keep developing the game over time. Love it.

Also:

- Community developed or studio developed?

To be honest, either. I have faith that you could deliver a solid game without the continued Alpha testing.

- Community or studio servers? or both?

Both.

- Kickstarter? or not?

If you think it would benefit the project then sure. Although I personally have heard of a lot of scams on Kickstarter and am weary about sinking money into it.

Game purchase only.

Studio developed with community ideas/suggestions.

I would use Kickstarter, it gives you an idea of how many people are willing to support this project. Kickstarter will also give you a good base community for the standalone public beta, suggestions and honest feedback (as trolls wont buy a game just to bad mouth it for no reason)

Id happily pay $30-$45 for this to go standalone.

I never have, and never will, pay a subscription for any game.

Free to play with extras if you put the cash in is ok in theory, but i'd be hesatant to invest if i can get the same results with a few hours gameplay.

I'd pay anything up to £30 sterling for a standalone game, if the bugs were fixed.

How would you rather pay for it?

- Game purchase only? (Guild Wars stylez)s

-DLCs

Also:

-studio developed?

- Community or studio servers?-------- BOTH

- Kickstarter

I would also see more intense RPG in this game. As for now there is mostly no reason to enter a city since its just easier to kill people to get items

Meaning, there should be alot more thing you can get, houndres, even thousands of loot you can pick up. Customable weapons, outfits and zombie raids.

Game purchase only + selling cosmetic stuff. And whateverer you can think of that won't piss too many oeople off.

Also:

Studio developed. Standalone version is going to need tens-hundred million $ in development money, considering the scope of this game and what it should be.

Community or studio servers? - How many people should be in a server? 200+ server might be out of reach for the community. Have strict, enforcable standards and go for both. Keeping up servers is expensive and would warrant a subscription model or a very very sucessful micro transaction system.

Kickstarter? Kickstarter will give you money, exposure, show fat cat investors that there is a market and demand for it. Kickstarter alone won't cut it. Get investors and make a studio or let someone like Valve swoop you up.

Game purchase only

Studio developed, involving the community will always let half of the players down and no one wants that.

community AND studio servers

kickstarter plus valve, just as KeelPool said.

Purchase only is pretty much the only way i buy games, unless they are REALLY good (which DayZ could be, if bugs get fixed and the engine would be something more decent than the one that arma 2 uses :P). No warping zombies please. So yeah i might actually pay monthly subscription.

Studio developed generally means a more well made game but allowing the studio to try and "casualize" it is a big NoNo.

Both community and studio servers

Possibly kickstarter, why not ?

I think you should pay for it (Game purchase only). But i think that if you have arma 2 operation arrowhead or combined operation the game should be free OR have a good discount on it. And i think a kickstarter would be a great idea.

game purchase

studio developed with community modding options. this is usually the best way to go with.

(someone mentioned valve here, which would be awesome if combined with their workshop and being standalone. see dota2)

kickstarted is not a bad choice to use, either. possible voluntary donations to run the server in the future from the community ain't bad either.

I think it's hard to say, currently DayZ feels more like an indie game (like Minecraft), it should be a cheap standalone (single pay).

Given that most people already have paid for Arma II and (like in my case) all the expansions, it should have to be a larger improvement (such as basing it on Arma III rather than Arma II) to make me interested in paying, basically again for the same game, if there weren't enough additional content in the full version I would just simply stick to the mod if the standalone became too expensive.

Let's face it, 90% of the DayZ content *IS* Arma II.

Game purchase only with micro transactions for certain things (weapon attachments/clothes/backpacks/tents etc) I wouldn't want to be able to buy high end guns as that would mean the richest person is the most deadly also :(

If you were to create a Kickstarter I would most definitely donate a considerable amount :)

Game Purchase

Cosmetic DLC purchase (skins, aka Killing Floorz)

DLC Expansion Purchase (new map areas + cosmetic stuff only)

New Studio develops that is Kickstarter funded (preorders)

Community and Studio servers. (Studio servers also serve as patch and update test servers).

Kick starter = Good as last resort if funds become an issue. People will pay to keep the game alive if the experience remains pure.

Single purchase of game would be good, people are already paying upwards of $30 just to play day z.

Need to be careful that the idiots that don't understand what a mod is (and there are many) don't feel cheated or double taxed for a single game, I reckon this category of people probably make up the majority of the player base.

If there is going to be a monthly fee, there needs to be at the very least new monthly content which is substantial, and there is only so much you can add to a game like this before you cheapen the experience.

F2P won't work in a game like this without sacrificing fair play. Even different vanity skins could be seen as an advantage or disadvantage. + same problem as above /\

If this was an actual game i would prefer it...

MMO Style Free to play ... (Not wow style... WoW is Gei) ... more like Age of conan style.

nothing to buy. no store. No need to make money, you already have enough. dont be so ambitious.

Lucas Films Studio developed. (Free)

i dont know what kickstarter means .. but sounds scary. so ... not kickstarted.

Free download game style. or dvd sell on stores for 5 dlls.

all of the above or .. pay 1 dollar per year (cash).... or 5 dlls per year with 12 easy monthly payments of 0.42 cents p/month.

win - win situation.

and please add porn magazines, everyone likes porn.
