I've seen this happen.

I think it occurs because players spawn the animals. When that player logs out i think the animal goes with them.

Not certain though.

what ive noticed is if you DONT remove your sight from the animal it will stick around, but if you swing your vision so the animal isnt on screen, theres a VERY good chance it will despawn.

sometimes ive had to stay zoomed in on a cow across a huge area cuz i needed that meat and didnt wanna risk losing the animal, even more so then i was afraid of being spotted while running zoomed, hahaah
