Yet another hacking thread...we need more POWA!

Hello everyone. I will try to not ramble forever.

Basically I just rented myself a server about 5 days ago and been having encounters with some hackers (shocker). Sometimes it's only things like hacked in weapons etc which I can see is almost impossible to stop since they could spawn them in on any server and then carry them over. Other times it's really bad. The other day me and a friend were gathering a lot of parts to rebuild chopper and all of a sudden when going back to our vehicles with the parts they were gone. Every vehicle including ones not repaired were also gone. Clearly they had all been deleted or teleported somewhere else.

I know preventing this is almost impossible, but I am open to any and all suggestions on what kind of counter measures people are using to minimize these things from happening. Currently I use BEC and DayZAntiHax and update my scripts, banlist, and remoteexec and createvehicle.txt files as often as I can. I'm just looking for any suggestions or tips, something you may have done that really helped out your server with less hackers etc. ANYTHING.

I want to help make DayZ a hack free game. Although it's not going to even come close until it's standalone (even then there will be exploits and hacks) I would like to play maybe for 6 hours without being messed with. Thanks in advance.

Also how does the "publicvariable.txt" work? Do I put it in the same folder as the other .txt files? Feedback much appreciated.

You cant minimize them from happening, you can only deal with them after they happen which generally only yields a small reprieve. Every day new script kiddies are popping up, nothing can be done accept deal with it or stop playing until standalone.

absolutely nothing you can do. You pay for a server that you have no control over. I pay for one as well. To this mod/community you and I are nothing more then a life form that gets sucked dry by all the leaches that want to piggy back off of others. Without people like you and I this game wouldnt exist. Care to challenge this? try playing this game without being able to piggy back off of the people who work jobs to pay for your entertainment.

We launched our server 2nd server yesterday after the patch came out. Hoarded a few vehicles and hid them so the mooches cant get to them. Wake up in the morning to find that some Leach script kiddie has come into our server and teleported all vehicles off the map.

These rules are put in place to prevent the server admins from abusing there powers, but in reality these rules cause the admins to pay with there time and money so that the leaches can ruin the fun of others.

admins should be able to do what they want with the server they pay for. I want to password it so that I can only invite a select few Legit players. To bad this game caters to script kiddies and the undeserving and fucks the people who keep this game going.

Edit** also since the script kiddie has teleported all vehicles off the map you as a Server admin/owner are not allowed to reset your server back to a clean start. Once again the people who pay for your entertainment get shit on by the rules put in place to protect the leaches.

Best bet is making your server a private hive and Passwording it so the leaches cant enjoy your entertainment.

I get exactly what you mean. Again I want to emphasize I already know it's impossible to stop. I know this. What i'm asking is what are things or procedures people do to catch a hacker before too much damage is done (killing all players etc) and what has anybody found a little bit more effective. I understand theres new scripts and bypasses everyday pretty much but I'm also sure some servers get hit harder than others and there has to be a reason for that. I do however agree with you 99%...it's lame we pay for a server that we have barely any control over. At least in early patch you could stop and start server and vehicles did reset. Oh well.

Yea you are butthurt but there is a solution that you even mentioned, private server. Stop complaining and make the move, it sounds like you want all the power (especially that ridiculous part about taking all the vehicles, pretty much makes you the dick) and in a private server you will have far more power to do what you please. If you want an extremely low population then even add a password, but if you want actual players you might want to consider leaving it open for the public (unless you are able to drum up demand in another manner).

Beyond that you do have a point (I know I was being a dick, but you sound like a dick so I matched the tone), you pay for the server so you should have slightly more control (not the vehicles) over access. I really do not see the benefit to having a public server at this point unless you truly believe in the alpha testing process, but there will always be those that stay public to provide data to the developers so you should be able to enjoy your purchase.

PS. stop calling regular players leaches just because we do not want to pay $50 to $100 monthly to rent a server (you probably do not own it and are using a third party to set it up).

Standalone is really going to help clan up those problems. Until then, well, you'll just have to endure.

Now if you decided to go the private hive route then you won't have the same restrictions as you do with the public hive. You can lock the hive and only let close friends or clan members in ect

Either way it is cheating, really not understanding why you would still run a public server if you have this much rage about such a simple concept. I think you guys are a little off topic. Arguing over private vs public was not the point of the thread i was simply asking what countermeasures do other people that have a public server do against hackers? I'm not asking how to stop it, i'm simply asking what do you do? Wait and kick? Ban? Add to banlist? report? Just give me different ideas and I may like one or realize I could be trying another method then my own. I don't mind the 30 bucks a month for my server...I don't wanna go private, I just want other peoples perspectives. Thanks again.

Kick and look for hard evidence in the logs then ban if using a public server. Players act like one false kick is going to get a server blacklisted but they are not nearly that harsh. If you mess up on the kick then just rescind and apologize, most people will understand with the current state of hacking. Sorry for the derail but the other admin was the type that gives you decent guys a bad name.

Be active and report any suspicious activity. Take notice of strange weapons and don't let scripted weapons slide, warn and kick for those weapons and cheaters will get the idea. I feel for you guys because you walk a fine line and people will complain either way.
