dannyboy (DayZ) 4 Posted September 7, 2012 Seems like there are a lot of people hating on guys that horde. Why? Isnt this a survival game? Is it not a good idea to have a tent fully stock so when you get taken out by snipers, hackers, glitches, bandits or zeds it aint such a b getting going again? dam i played for 2 weeks and looked everywhere and never found matches or maps.not to mention the fact if you saw a tent stock in the woods, you would raid it wouldn't you?I had a few tents wiped out by the update, but its all good ill start over again.I just don't understand the hate on the hording. you can play for weeks and not see stuff you need. Jim Bean 157 Posted September 7, 2012 The hate comes from people who suck at the game and hate to see other people being organised and thinking things through.Don't let it rustle your jimmies bro, it doesn't matter what anybody thinks. It's a game, play it how you want.
ThuggleS 45 Posted September 7, 2012 I don't think anyone hates people that acquire and store gear. But people do hate people that horde more vehicles than they need or can actually use.
LightbulbGuy 24 Posted September 7, 2012 It's not the hoarding that people are bothered by, it's the abuse of bad tent systems. When you save tents, there are ways to "dupe" items. Basically you take out your stuff, and next server reboot all that stuff you took out will pop back into it. Thus, you have duplicates of said items. It's an easy way to got multiple AS50s, NVGs, Rangefinders, and lots of other high end gear. Hoarding is not the problem, that is. And for the record, I see a problem with vehicle hoarding, although that's a different subject all together.
Cronic (DayZ) 35 Posted September 7, 2012 I don't see any hate for people who legitimately horde. I see hate for dupers & hackers.
☣BioHaze☣ 7337 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) BTW, 2 weeks without matches or a map.Certainly doing it wrong.People who horde stuff in debug = bad.People who horde ANYTHING on map (vehicles included, whether we like it or not), are certainly "allowed" to do so as the capability is in game.Dupers, wells they're derpers.Hackers, with any luck they will discover that hacking video games causes rectal cancer, and spontaneous combustion.Otherwise, I haven't tried do make a tent in a VERY long time. But I will likely try to do so again soon, due to the fact that they save properly again.Play anyway you like, just don't hack, exploit, or grief, and you're AOK. Zombie Jesus 723 Posted September 7, 2012 This forum hates on everything, they hate rocket, they hate survivors, they hate bandits, they hate snipers, they hate light machine guns, they hate tents, they hate stories, and they hate you/me/everyone. Everyone thinks the way they play is the one "true" way to play and all other playstyles should just go back to CoD or left 4 dead. As long as you are playing legit then there is no reason for anyone to be mad, so try not to pull purposeful dupes (tent issue was not really the persons fault unless they started to exploit the issue, but with a month and a half wait time on a fix who cares) and definitely do not become a scum of the earth scripter. Other than that take forum responses (including mine) with a grain of salt, who cares if some idiot thinks you are playing the game wrong.

Zombie Jesus 723 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) yeah i was avoiding the major towns is why i didnt find any matches. Didn't know about the dupeingGrocery stores always seem to yield maps, go to one of the ones up North. Zelenogorsk has a good one at the South end, scan the town for zombies and if it is clear just run in and check. No need to go to big coastal cities in this game unless you want some PVP action or a sniper shot to the head. BulletCatcher (DayZ) 7 Posted September 7, 2012 Don't hate hoarders per se but I personally think your tents and gear stored within should be wiped when you die. To me it kind of takes away from the game if there is no real fear of death other than it being a minor inconvienence causing you to have to run back to your stash and re supply. Half the fun is having to explore and scrounge for items.
rustledmyjimmies 361 Posted September 7, 2012 Hoarding is fun, at least when you have a ton of stuff they can't take it all in one trip. I don't see why anyone would allow this to rustle their jimmies.
Dirty Pyrex 23 Posted September 7, 2012 Game is too buggy to enjoy the survivalist methodology. With banditry, I easily come across players who, more or less, become willing participants in a giveaway soon as they slip up. Tents always lose my stuff, terribly long walks to get to a good hiding spot, and I personally have more fun with stalking and raiding. To each his own however, I just don't see a point in hoarding and having nothing to do with said equipment. Use it or lose it.

Zombie Jesus 723 Posted September 7, 2012 duping isnt fixed so dunno what you talking about month and a half wait...the only thing thats fixed is tents saving. Was talking about the tent restart exploit, have not played vanilla Dayz since the hotfix so maybe I spoke too soon. What I said is still valid though, just try not to purposefully dupe which excludes the tent issue. As long as you are not setting up fields of tent with gear then you are not a purposeful duper. There is a huge difference between the tent dupe and the full body dupe, one can be done on accident quite easily while the other usually is on purpose (although i found out on accident about the body dupe). If you like permadeath, you hate tents. It's that simple. As always BazBake swoops in on his high horse to tell everyone else how the only pure way is his way. Tell me again how 3rd person is an exploit BazBake, I love hearing that one. Also when you die do you stop playing the game? No, well then you are not experiencing permadeath, so it is not that simple.

Just a Goat 25 Posted September 7, 2012 I don't think anyone hates people that acquire and store gear. But people do hate people that horde more vehicles than they need or can actually use. This makes no sense whatsoever. Either you honestly don't understand why people are doing it, or you're hating on them simply because they're doing better than you. There is no limit to the number of "Vehicles That I've Ensured You Can't Use" that I can use.People aren't being dicks simply for not cooperating with you. There is no requirement or expectation for others to do things to make life easier for you. Destroying or denying resources that we can't use ourselves hurts everyone who isn't us, and therefore leaves us better off in comparison.

Destroying or denying resources that we can't use ourselves hurts everyone who isn't us, and therefore leaves us better off in comparison. One little caveat because I am a huge believer in allowing all legitimate play , if you hoard the vehicles off the map then you are 100% cheating. It makes you a dick to do this in the first place, but being a dick is a huge part of this game so this is no different. But storing things in the debug plains or forest is straight up cheating and if there was a way to catch these idiots they should be banned from that server. I am hoping that a fix comes out eventually to stop people from logging out in these areas or saving a single shred of gear or vehicles. Otherwise, carry on I will eventually find your legitimate camp site so hoard away.

Obsolescence 129 Posted September 7, 2012 People hording gear are typically duping that gear. Duping makes AS50s, NVGs, and Ghillies more common than soda.Need I say more?
Zombie Jesus 723 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) Argumentum ad hominem.Reductio ad absurdum.I used ad hominem but I never used reductio ad absurdum. If I did use reductio ad absurdum it was in response to your original use when comparing enjoying perma death to hating tents, they do not go hand in hand. If we use a realism argument and you argue that "permadeath" means character A is dead forever and you respawning is character B, then why would character A's stuff be gone in the first place? The come back to this is you as character B would never know where character A's tent was located, but it still does not change the fact that the gear would still be in character A's tent in this scenario. Then we get into a whole discussion on how there is a host of things character B would have no clue about without the knowledge you gained from being character A, so at the end of the day your logic is not sound. There is no such thing as perma death in Dayz because it is A GAME, but you get my beans for knowing the Latin logic terms (some of us have also gone to college). One thing I hate about these "logical fallacies" is they would make any debate pointless because almost everyone has to use a few of them to make a rational argument. How the hell is appealing to authority (which is accurately called citing a motherfucking source) a logical fallacy, alright end of rant.
