I'm completely new and I have a question about mods to the Day z mod

Recommended Posts

So I bought ARMA II but I was wondering say if I wanted to play that lingor island map, would I have to use an illegal version of the game to connect to servers with that? Are mods only available on private servers and how would I go about connecting to private servers?

Once downloaded, you will find the option to install lingor (as well as any dayz / arma 2 beta updates) on the "install/update" tab of DayZ Commander.

That is pretty much the only other option as far as "mods" for dayz. Lingor Island, and private hives.

So there is nothing that you could download from like other hosts other then dayz commander that would work with the official arma 2 and day z mod?

Use a legal copy, you can download the mods and play them on official or private servers. Make it easy on yourself go to dayz mod.com and click on Download alpha version on the top left. Follow the instructions and the download will do the rest. If you play after 10 central I can help you out MSG later if your on.

Does using an illegal copy maybe offer more content?

Hello there

No, using an illegal copy just means you wont be able to play after a while.

There are many mod managers for use with DAYZ and Arma2.

I personally prefer Armarize to DayzCommander or Six Launcher (there are others). You can also manage your mods by yourself.

As to Lingor in Dayz etc., it's down to the server host as to what mods he/she allows. Most DAYZ servers don't allow any other third party mods. But some servers that do allow specific mods do exist.

Using an illegal copy of the game won't help you in any way shape or form in this regard.

Check sites like www.Armaholic.com for the many mods that are available.

So do different launchers have different mods? If you manage the mods yourself you'd download them off the internet?

Let me just put you straight on your misconception.

DayZ is in itself a modification of ArmA II/CO.

Most people here are new to the game and need a tool to set up thier modified game.

I set up mods by hand, it will take me two minutes to get a mod working.

If I wish to use several mods at one time : Island + units + weather effects + sound + radio chatter, I would use AlpineStars ArmA Launcher to mix and match.

I learned all the tricks of the trade here : http://www.armaholic.com/plug.php?e=faq

It seems complicated at first but in fact its simple enough and allows you to manage your game as required.

Good luck.

You need to get something straight. There ARE no mods for days.

There is currently one other map (Lingor Island) and you can play it separately from your character on DayZ. It's not a mod, it's simply a different map to play, but it is separate from your DayZ character so any progress you make in DayZ is not carried over to Lingor Island servers (or Lingor to Chernarus).

As far as launchers, all they do is help you easily launch what ever you have installed. In the case of DayZ Commander / Lingor, all it does is download the map and launch the game once you have found a lingor map server.

If Lingor isn't a mod then why can't you just download the map, fire up DayZ and play? You have to run the Lingor mod...

Also, where do you think the sombrero zombies and other zombie models came from?

Hello there

DAYZ is a "mod" and so is "Lingor isle" (although Lingor is a mix of both a map and addons.)

I've played DAYZ on certain non hive servers with JSRS sound and, I think, WarFX for example, so there are some out there.

There are no other "supported" mods for DAYZ apart from Lingor, which isn't really supported, rather tolerated.

At home I play SP DAYZ with a vaaaast amount of mods enabled, from Ricewinders Magic mod to A.C.E. but that's probably a bit out of the scope of this thread.

Lingor Maps don't use the official Hive (which essentially stores your character amongst other things) and many Lingor servers run on different "Hives" so while you may play with one character on one Lingor or Chenarus server, on other servers you may not have the same character.

Launchers make it easy to run "mods".

Mods can be anything from new sounds to entire new armies or maps, one can either download them manually or some launchers allow you do automise the process.

Hope this helps
