Stopped playing for 1 month, & yet, the community & the mod are still the same

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I discovered DayZ during May, I became a true lover of its gameplay type and the way the players were acting. Everything was possible in terms of human interaction, cooperation was a deep aspect of the mod. I spent an enormous amount of hours on the game and had tons of adrenaline rushes. I've touched many high tier gear, from NVGs, Coyote & AS50 to Rangefinder, M4 SD & M107. I saw many fights, encountered many crashes, exploded many heads. I watched the community grow and change, and the mod evolve.

During July, the mod became extremely successful and the community grew way too fast. More players meant bigger proportions and therefor more instant-action seekers and hackers... It was at this point that I started to be pissed and angry at the community. Playing on a crowded server (25+ players) was not about playing and evolving into Chernarus anymore it was about avoiding hackers and making no human contact at all with others.

At some point I saw that spending time surviving wasn't fun at all. Hiding from everything every time is fun when you choose to play this way, but when you're forced to hide every single time, it's getting old. Looking back at all the kilometers spent on the road looking for gear, it was more about losing time. So I stopped playing.

Then, today I watched a video of SideStrafe on DayZ, he does that since a very long time, good guy, good videos he does. I started to be interested again in DayZ, and came here to inform myself on the evolution of the community and the mod, well, this is impressive  ...

  • The Average Life Expectancy was at 3h30 in May
  • During July it dropped at 15 mins if I recall correctly
  • It evolved from 45 mins to 65 mins during August
  • Player improvement is slow and we are a few to have experienced the joys of a very long life duration

  • The number of Bandits Killed has raised to nearly 1 million
  • So each of the players have killed multiple players during one of their lifes
  • Murdering players is part of everybody's objective

  • Hackers are everywhere and the complains on the forum are many
  • Glitches that make the game sometimes unplayable are still here

The cooperation is forever lost for random DayZ players (good for you out there that new players don't have any weapons, I know I couldn't have cooperated with some players without this), that said, players wouldn't be a problem if there weren't any hackers. Regarding my ass, right now the community is way too frustrating to continue any playing. And the graphic glitches... Man that's completely insane. Two fucking months and there's no solution to that... I miss Chernarus though, but it's really too much bad things for an alpha.

PS : One day, completely hidden in a barn waiting for some guns to stop playing in electro, I heard an heli coming, completely random event, the heli started shooting at the barn, I was the only one around. Then, the heli started to lower to get a good angle at the windows and the entrances. Even with thermal, not possible to see my body even from up above, and the bastard really started to shoot at me right after getting closer to my location, as they knew I was in there from a very long distance...

Not at all, but slight changes, yes.

Between May and June, changes were much larger and it was matter of weeks at the time. I mean regarding the community and the way people were acting in a cooperation manner.

But although yes, even with the cons, even with all the stuff going around I expected that in 730 hrs (one month), Rocket and his team would've have found the time to fix this god damn graphic glitch, at least.

they tried once, and are continuing to try to sort it. if you have a magic bullet for it, by all means enlighten them.

fast, untested updates aren't good practise.

and the community is the community, try to change it or hush.

not like they've had anything else on their plates recently either eh?

Well, the glitches aren't what pisses me off of course, cause you can go around you know and yeah apparently you can fix them.

But the hackers, and the murderers, this pisses me off, it's god damn bad, and DayZ was one of the few games if not the only one that was giving me much much satisfaction. I'm an angry motherfucker these days, and nothing satisfies me, but the freedom in DayZ ? Man good memories.

So yeah, I'm pissed to go find awesome gear and lose it because some asshole found me I don't even know how. Don't start with the don't get attach to your gear, understand that when your only reward is taken away, again, and again, and again, that's not cool at all.

I'm in the same boat OP. Played in May, quit late June and just come back this W/E. First few hours, friend and I had just raided stary and then running through the woods and my friend is sniped, I keep running and then try and double back behind him. Find the 2 players, kill them and then the same player I killed ports back to me and kills me. He then approached me on the coast and took me back to my gear as he felt bad.

Then yesterday we were raiding the Chern fire station and a bandit spawns in, we empty clips into him and its quickly apparent he is a hacker, I yell "die you hacking c**t" and a child's voice replies "I'd rather not". He then spawns an M249 and we had to DC. That and finding a AS50 with thermal in the supermarket indicates how rampant the hackers are.

We are now only playing Chern deathmatch style, stay in the city and kill as many as possible because there is no point going north when hackers are invulnerable or can see your position on a map.

LINGOR FTW

Not as good of a map as you think. My clan has been trying to get a Lingor server running right for about a week now. No matter what we do all vehicles spawn with 10 copies at the same place, and with every server restart any saved vehicle ports all copies to that same spot (unsaved vehicles are random). That's even if the damned things spawn in the right place (100+m out of place or 10m in the air). We had to re-wright all of the spawn code and still they dupe, causing them to destroy themselves EVERY TIME! It's bad enough to keep a chopper in shape, but having to re-build it and every other vehicle with each server restart is just fucked up.

In short. Lingor is a very nice map, or infantry. Try to add in vehicles and it becomes a horrid mess with the duping and blockades loading AFTER you hit them at high speeds. It's a PvP map, nothing more.

Sounds like someone doesn't know what they're doing... There are plenty of Lingor servers that are playable.

I don't know about Lingor, but Chernarus is the true feeling guys. Plus, should I move myself because one place is crowded with bad guys and hackers ? I don't know.

The cooperation is NOT lost 'forever' for random DayZ players. I met two guys yesterday and we played for a few hours together

DayZ is never going to be the same as it was back then. There are too many players who think this is a straight up PvP game and are hell bent on ensuring it stays that way.

Look at it this way, in the coming year or two, there are going to be dozens of new games released which are based on the DayZ concept. Surely one of them will be everything you are looking for in a game. Five years down the line you will have seen and played so many zombie games that you will never want to see another...

So about the standalone, do anyone know any potential solution regarding the security ? I mean Battleye is weak so yeah Arma II is penetrable like a california girl after 3 mojitos, but the standalone if of course a chance for a new security. But will Rocket be great enough to come out with his own codes for Arma III or else ?

Cause, don't get me wrong, DayZ is very very nice, but looking at WarZ and the way everything is far better quality and stability, isn't Rocket a bit off ?

you sir have the right chain of thought in my opinion too many zombie games in the future maybe a problem but if you look back maybe what 8 months there was only hl2 zombie mods or project zomboid (it's a very good indie game) almost one year ago I saw a post about some guy bitching about not being enough zombie shooter survivals and now I can say this without being called a retard there is going to be plenty of zombie games mod's there is no telling where this is heading whether the genre of game is going to sky rocket or plummet back to having games like counter strike or call of duty

Sounds like someone doesn't know what they're doing... There are plenty of Lingor servers that are playable.

Our server is playable in every since of the word but for vehicles. Ever single loot spawn works, zombies flood the map (I love this about Lingor), and crashed choppers spawn all over the map. Everything works but vehicle spawns.

Without vehicles there's no endgame to strive for. No vehicles means no mobile ops or quick raid parties. I don't count PvP as an endgame part of Day Z, I see it as a part of the main game. Every time you go anywhere there's a chance of PvP at any stage of gameplay (from fresh spawn to fully geared). Removing the biggest part of what endgame Day Z has just for a more geared PvP isn't worth it in my eyes. Might as well go play a few games of deathmatch if that's all you're going/want to do.

It's been pointed out before but you are not listening. YOUR server is not working correctly with regard to vehicle spawns, yet you ignore this and go right back to blaming the game instead. Why don't you guys work out how to fix the server (other Lingor servers have working vehicles, get your shit together or stop fucking crying about it).
