phisher34 12 Posted June 11, 2012 Had a quick question. We had about 4 people squatting in character selection for over 30 minutes this afternoon (one for over 2 hours). We wrote in side chat that they had 2 minutes to get into the game or would be kicked. All of them were subsequently kicked with further warnings at 1 minute and 30 seconds.I don't know if there ever has been any clarification on this, as I haven't seen it mentioned in DayZ rules (or I have missed it).We monitored to make sure it wasn't new people joining and just taking longer than usual to get in, but people who were AFK for over 30 minutes. zarx 0 Posted June 11, 2012 I generally give people about 10-15 mins max then they are gone.
dallas 5195 Posted June 11, 2012 I think it's perfectly legit to demand players on your server either play or free up the slot. I understand why DayZ enforces strick perma-ban rules, but a kick is not a permanent thing, it's really just a friendly way of getting a player's undivided attention. mansen 1 Posted June 11, 2012 Since players not actually in game don't lose anything with a kick (since their bodies are not ingame) I don't see why this wouldn't be condoned as per "the spirit of the server admin rules".
salty (DayZ) 39 Posted June 12, 2012 I've been kicked for being idle, and I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.Also, I'm almost certain I've seen servers that advertise an idle kick feature.
AstroZombie 9 Posted June 12, 2012 I see nothing wrong with it, people wanting to play are being stopped from joining due to essentially people "idling" it's wasting a slot tbh.
Wüstenfuchs (DayZ) 105 Posted June 12, 2012 It's ok to kick someone who is clearly just idling in the lobby. However, recently joining the server has taken a long time, so some might go and browse the internet while waiting for the connection to get to the lobby. Due to that, I would give them a few minutes before kicking them out. As you mentioned above, they had been idling in lobby for extensive amounts of time, so there's no problem kicking them out.We wrote in side chat that they had 2 minutes to get into the game or would be kicked. If you write in side chat (in-game), those who are in lobby won't see it. You have to actually be in lobby too to be able to talk with others in lobby (in group channel).
phisher34 12 Posted June 12, 2012 Thanks for the reply.I read that global chat might also work, even in game?
DrTyWords 0 Posted June 12, 2012 Using BEC to !say should reach them right?
xiuide 0 Posted June 12, 2012 if you use BEC you might as well just set it to auto-kick lobby idlers at say 15 minutes, and have that in MOTD (that's what I do, anywho)
