Weapon damage

Recommended Posts

Something recently occurred to me.

Since ARMA2 is a military sim, are the damage values of all the weapons featured in arma2 and therefore DayZ supposed to represent their effectiveness against a target wearing body armour? Since 10+ pistol rounds to the chest to drop a player makes me think that could be the case!

Your player is wearing body armor.... its a part of your skin, what would make you think otherwise?

And yes, they are designed that way.

How come you can take the same amount of 9mm rounds to the chest when in ghillie? Seriously, there is no bullet proof vest in this game. The weapons aren't properly balanced - the pistols should be more powerful

Perhaps in the standalone they can expand on body armour and such.

It's not the problem of the models nor the weapons. Rocket seems to have modified the hitpoint system to something else. Normally you would be wounded and shake a bit when you hit an obstacle when driving a vehicle. In DayZ you only recieve a shock and nothing else ( of course unless you hit it pretty hard ). In vanilla ArmA you can kill a player with one pistol round and you can even survive multiple hits to the extremities ( even with a .50 but at a greater distance , ok it's a limitation of the ArmA engine because damage is not reduced over distance like their RL counterparts, with .223 or 5.45x39 you can survive multiple hits and still live which happened enough in clan wars / usual shootouts were carried out between 200-400m / and was a common tactic in slowing down enemy movement instead of killing ) and still live but you will be crippled ( the damage would have already killed a player in DayZ ). A headshot kills instantly etc...fortunately this still works in DayZ. I don't think the PMC models have any type of "body armor", neither do the soldiers.

Just because its shown on the skin doesn't mean you are supposed to have it. Sunglasses don't darken your view for example and a ghillie doesn't make your backpack dissapear... oh hang on.....
