Chernarus is becoming stale. New map?

First off, this isn't a complaint about Chernarus. It is a fantastic map with various environmental characteristics. From the industrial towns of Cherno and Elektro, to the wetlands east of the NE Airfield, this map has a lot of awesome features and it has become one of my favorite maps in any game.

Having said that, I've become too familiar with Chernarus. If you are given the option to eat your favorite food for the rest of your life, it will grow tasteless eventually.

I no longer need a map to navigate its terrain. I know all the towns and countrysides in most areas of the map. To me, this is a problem. With my growing familiarity of the terrain, I've lost the sense of confusion and panic that made me fall in love with this game. Not knowing what was around the hillside created tense situations for me and my friends, but now it has become too easy to predict when and where encounters will occur.

I'm not saying that a map change has to happen during the lifespan of this mod, but I am suggesting that if the mod turns into a full standalone game I would encourage the ability to travel between maps. There are various ways this could be implemented.

One option that me and my friends have discussed is the "create a plane" option. In this case, finding and repairing a C130 or MV-22 will give you the option in the context menu to travel to a certain map. Of course these vehicles or their parts will be extremely rare (more than NVGs maybe?). Activating the ability in the contextual menu will remove the vehicle and players from the server, but the player has the ability to bring others with him if they so choose.

Activating this function would allow the person(s) to choose the selected destination in the server list. Each map has the ability to go to two maps, in a circular type rotation. Map A has the capability of going to D and B, but not C. B to A and C, but not D. Etc.

Thoughts? Any other veterans feel similar about Chernarus?

Or once reaching the edge of the map you switch over to another map. If he other map is an island you would need to find a boat or plane to get there.

That seems like a good idea, but more players would need to be able to play at once, so it doesn't grow stale from a lack of challenge.

If we could eventually add/entrench new 'havens' or 'settlements' around the map, as has been proposed by myself and a raft of other members, it would surely breathe life into Chernarus?

This, is actually a really good idea. Needing a vehicle to get to a new region? FUCKING GENIUS

This is more towards what I would like to see' date=' but I'm not sure if it can be implemented. Assuming ARMA III's Virtual Engine is an upgraded version of ARMA II's, I don't know if that's possible. That's why I was leaning towards just having a contextual menu option.

But who knows, I've been wrong before and I'm no programmer :)

I'm sure it would, but I'm looking towards the overall longevity of the project. These might add more features to the gameplay, but in the long run this would only be a temporary fix. My suggestion isn't about the gameplay, but rather expanding what so many of us have grown to be familiar with. I want to have that feeling of being lost and confused once again.

Sure - it isn't as if 14? Kilometers for 50 players makes sure noone meets eachother unless they camp the NW Airfield or the coastal towns.

If anything the game (longterm) needs to allow for building makeshift towns from scrap - persistent towns.

This just proves my point though. If ARMA fans already feel this way about the map, maybe its time for a change?

I've been playing ARMA for a while, but mostly on Takistan. I never realized how great Chernarus was until I downloaded DayZ! :)

I'd say " Deal with it ".

Knowing the map should be a great advantage. If you're getting bored stop playing or try to do something else than the usual things you do. Maybe you've played too much and should take a break :P

The main issue with your idea is that it's a personal feeling... It's the same thing as saying " I'm getting killed too much, please get rid of Friendly Fire ". You don't provide good arguments.

I think the optimal way to make the map less "same old same old" would be to change spawns to not just being on the coast. There is so much territory up north that players never see.

Sadly' date=' I haven't been able to scratch my gaming itch for a couple of weeks now due to the fact I'm in the middle of a move, so I don't think this is the solution lol.

The main issue with your idea is that it's a personal feeling... It's the same thing as saying " I'm getting killed too much, please get rid of Friendly Fire ". You don't provide good arguments.

My suggestion is a little bit less drastic then removing a gameplay mechanic, and more about looking towards the overall longevity of the project. Its true, my idea is based on personal opinions, but I know its one that will be felt by everyone eventually. There is a reason that map packs/expansions have become popular for mainstream games, and that is because it adds longevity (and ridiculous profits) to the product for the consumer.

This! I recon it would take a year or so just to do the map let alone all the fine tuning of glitches with spawning loot/zeds etc.

I'm up for Takistan if anyone else is. As long as there's enough water pumps to stop the lakes being a death-zone, I think it could be do-able. Sure it would be quite a different play style due to the open terrain but this would be a new interesting challenge. Also, every building is enterable which is a plus. I wouldn't recommend replacing it, but giving servers the option to run something else too would be cool.

A suggestion forum is here because it is a place to provide suggestions which is what this man has done, hes stated why he has provided the suggestion and left it open to everyone else, this is the optimal kind of suggestion as it gets ideas generating.

As for the suggestion I agree with new maps, starting with the maps Zargabad, and Takistan (even utes which can be utilised into a training/tutorial map in single player)

Hopefully it will mean the fix of either Zargabad or Takistan or both at last, as dayz seems to be making the BIS devs realise that we weren't talking shit all those years.

unfortunately I believe they are going down the route of turning DayZ either into its own game or by making it a part of Arma so its part of BIS.

In which case they either cant use modded items from the community or they can but wont as it "looks bad".

I like this map, I can see people who have been over this map alot could get bored but to me there is always something new.I would like to see player persistant towns as others have also mentioned this would add something new to the game.

Oh don't be such a curmudgeon! It is a suggestion thread. That is why people suggest things here. I said it would be cool i didn't suggest they do it. I also think you overestimate how long it might take to port a mission to another map in a basic working condition. A lot of work but not months.
