AllMightyKnox 218 Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) I would love to see the day that DayZ makes its way towards eSports. There are many clans already in this game and i can already imagen as the game gets older and the full game comes out more clans coming. I would love to see the day DayZ gets into the competitive scene. My clan and myself have talked about this many times and think its a good idea. Picture 4 squads of 10 players each playing competitive to be the last to survive in Electro or Cheno. I think that would be awesome, there could be spots in the city w/ special weapons and stuff like that and maybe zombies, Each round w/ a set of 10-15min depends on how many squads/players. I would love for this to happen someday. Hope someone from the DayZ Development Team reads this. This whole idea is when the full standalone version comes out, Not right now. Can we tweet this thread to Rocket? Here is his tweeter, Maybe he would love the idea if not thought of yet.https://twitter.com/rocket2guns Send him this thread link http://dayzmod.com/f...ayz-in-esports/ Edited August 31, 2012 by kn0x187YT
sturmwaffles 38 Posted August 31, 2012 I love this idea, especially the Chernogorsk survival. You have my beans, great suggestion!
Kar98 27 Posted August 31, 2012 It just isn't suited for esports. Long periods of no action, standoffs and long roundsFPS fans are drawn to CS and Quake for fast paced action

SmashT 10907 Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) It's really not suited for eSports at all, nobody wants to watch someone run across a field for 20 minutes trying to scavenge a gun, it's boring for spectators. If it's only going to be focussed on PvP, why not just play ArmA and set up a custom mission? gywidion@msn.com 80 Posted August 31, 2012 I think it is possible. The Hunger Gamez while buggy as heck, proved to be very entertaining. I think in the last interview with IGN it brought up as well.I imagine when the mod goes to the community we might see more development in tools to make this work even better.
sostronk 334 Posted August 31, 2012 I would have laughed at the prospect, until I seen hunger games. Sure it didn't run fluently, but it shows there is some big potential for a modded game mode to become E-sports potential.
gywidion@msn.com 80 Posted August 31, 2012 I think if the environment is controlled as did in Hunger Gamez it would limit the amount of downtime. But then again, even with a lot of downtime folks eat up watching streams and videos of Day Z.

How about a "NO-CAMP" mod just incase players want to camp inside a building or something. So many good ideas could actually happen w/ DayZ. I hope they take advantage of them all.I think it is possible. The Hunger Gamez while buggy as heck, proved to be very entertaining. Sakeoe (DayZ) 115 Posted August 31, 2012 Where are you going to get a spectator client from? Also this game is still in its alpha stage and filled with bugs. How can you make that into a esport which is supposed to be based on skill?

SmashT 10907 Posted August 31, 2012 I just don't see what the advantage is of using DayZ for this when you could already do this in ArmA, you're essentially removing all of the DayZ elements anyway?

AllMightyKnox 218 Posted August 31, 2012 I just don't see what the advantage is of using DayZ for this when you could already do this in ArmA, you're essentially removing all of the DayZ elements anyway? What makes it even better is with the Zombies, When a zombie spots you they will haunt you down till you loose them for good. If zombies are in the game whileyou are playing competitive it makes it way better because you need to stay alert. If you kill a zombie you will give your position away and if you don't kill themthey will pretty much get you killed by another player. Main point is kill anyone on sight, How about a Search And Destroy type of mode? I'm not trying to put DayZ to be like other games. It's just some ideas i have that i think would be sick in this game, Sick as in good.
myskaal 50 Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) Yep, watching the Hunger GameZ was very entertaining. First thing it made me think was "This could so easily be a DayZ Esport." (and apparently I'm not the only one since now there's another group that stole the idea and are trying to set up another Hunger Games exactly AS an Esport for DayZ).More scenarios could easily be added for variety. Just the toolset for spectating and setting up special maps needs to be included. Edited August 31, 2012 by EliJRn
AllMightyKnox 218 Posted August 31, 2012 Yup other things can be added aswell, How about a "Search & Destroy" two teams battle out to find the bomb and plant it before the enemy team does.So many good ideas, I just hope and hope is all i have that they actually think about it. Maybe not now since they are busy building the standalone versionbut this could actually be added later or something.

It'll be easier to set up without problems of servers/bugs etc. Entertainment wise as you can make it that players start with weapons rather than watch them for twenty minutes looking for one (plus one may contain the player population in a smaller area).EDIT: Not to mention setting up spectators, setting up specific mission types as you said, etc. Edited August 31, 2012 by VVired
VSnares 17 Posted August 31, 2012 As most everyone else has said, it would just be easier to use ARMA and not deal with buggy(er) bullshit. Also your S&D game mode is an ARMA MP mission if I'm not mistaken.

Imagen a search and destroy modew/ zombies running around and enemy team you can take out... stuff like that. I find pretty dope but chances of them being created by the people over at DayZ Development team are not likely, I know they are very busy doing the standalone and other stuff.
Maxgor 2314 Posted September 1, 2012 Even for standalone, it just not an idea that makes much sense. The point of DayZ is not just to kill people, to basically hack in a bunch of weapons and set everyone off. It's mildly entertaining, but with how the game is designed, you'd have to basically make a completely separate multiplayer deathmatch mode, and then what is that point? There are plenty of games for that already that do it better. The whole point of the game is survival, esports don't play into that and serve little purpose. Now if two clans managed to get onto a server, maybe it's one clan storming a server, and the objective was to say take over the city that was occupied by one clan, having this form more naturally, that would be a killer thing to watch, but it's not really something for esports. Sturmgeist 21 Posted September 1, 2012 god help me, if that ever happens im going to quit DayZ instantly. i can already imagine how pvp quadrouples because of 'training' reasons...
