HELICOPTER CO-PILOT - Standalone suggestion

Recommended Posts

Just got disconnected whilst piloting a chopper, had a co-pilot in there, you can see he had the controls in his hands, but he couldn't do anything to prevent the heli from crashing into the ground in a big ball of fire.

There should be some sort of failsafe to pass over the controls to the co-pilot in the event of the pilot disconnecting, just in case something like this were to happen. Considering how long it takes to get the heli going in the first place.

Thoughts?

Agree, i never found heli in DayZ but this should be added to the game.

it can be done by simply giving the ability to switch to pilot sit "on the fly".

Agreed as well. Its nice to have a co-pilot cause when players in dayz usually aim for the pilot there is a co pilot to take control. Great idea

My beans, good sir. I haven't run into this issue yet as I've yet to find a helicopter, but I understand the concern of pilots DCing.

This is a very good suggestion, you saved me from making a post. I am the senior pilot in my clan. We take or chopper piloting seriously, if possible we only allow pilots in the pilot seats. In real life air superiority is a must and features like this one helps us keep it. I did hours of training before I flew with a full crew of players who did not want to lose their character (very intense experience ill never forget). My skills were up to the task however a disconnect would have been ill timed. There are several reasons this feature should be included in the standalone:

1. The disconnecting from the game while flying could cost us our lives and its very un-likley to happen to two pilots at the same time.

2. Training. I could train my pilots better and help them lean NOT to rely on auto hover land and how to manually touch down the the chopper anywhere. For example, beginners could learn to take off as a co-pilot and the pilot could land.

3. If the pilot is shot in flight, bleeds out, dies of thirst/starvation or goes unconscious for any reason, the other pilot could take over.

4. To prevent crashes. Two days ago I let a new pilot fly and he made a costly error that resulted in a crash. I saw the crash develop and would have been able to save it from doing so since I was the in the co-pilot seat.

5. It adds to the authenticity of the experience, real choppers have co-pilots for a reason the current chopper in game supports dual control. This will be a simple yet incredibly useful addition to Day Z.

To prevent accidental simultaneous controlling of the chopper (which could be bad) just add the option to switch or take over controls on the fight actions list above auto hover (since this is more important and should be accessed without having to scroll.)

This will be a great addition to Day Z pilots.

Easy to implement, solves the problem. Can't see anything wrong with this.

Have some beans!

Does Rocket ever read these things?

He has twitter now so he make friends there and all these interviews where he keep saying the same things again and again, so he got no time to read this...
