dayz commander: grey/green player column

I can't work out why the player column has green and grey coloured entries?

There doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern.

All i've noticed is that grey is almost empty/empty. Green is inbetween and yellow is 2-3 slots from full server.

Yep and red for full server.

I first thought that it indicated three or less players, but I've seen seven or more players as grey too.

Maybe it was a bug in an earlier version. I can't see any greater than three right now.
