Guys,

I want us to create "Safe Zones" in Dayz. Player created, player controlled, safe zones, where people can go to trade, form raiding parties to go loot in the big cities. I know people do this in their clans, but what if we had big groups or alliances, like people have on EVE Online?

There is so much freedom in DayZ to do whatever we want, instead of doing something constructive and intelligent, we choose to troll each other all he time. The every clan for themselves and Kill-on-site attitude is only hurting the growth of DayZ.

I wana hear ideas on where to form safe zones and ideas on how to keep them zombie free.

I am sure that if we did this, the dev team would add options for permanent alliances and clans in-game.

What do you all say?

Its been suggested before in the dev suggestions site

either roving military areas with npc patrolling and no guns inside

or

An instance like the private buildable areas where no guns are allowed

I think it just makes the game more realistic and challenging.

"Forget about empty towns with lot of resources laying everywhere. That happens in movies maybe.

In my case many people were shot at well known water sources by snipers. It’s like lions in deserts. They wait for prey near water holes."

I think that zombies shouldn't respawn again until humans have completely left the area and return later. So if you kill all the Z's in an area, you can hold it safely as long as someone is there.

Perhaps loot should work the same way too.

I think that player-controlled zones would evolve naturally if it worked this way.

I play on south african servers, ZA 1 through 4, the only servers I have playable ping on, no such thing being done there. I'm not gonna cry about it, I wana take action and start it, but I know there would be people hell bent on ruining it. How does one go about hosting a private server?

Its easy enough to find areas where zombies don't spawn, and to set it up there, but what's hard is keeping people who wana trade in that area safe from bandits.

Not possible with server hopping. Someone can just go to a different server, get to a rooftop, come back and start killing people because guards couldn't see him coming in.

Also not possible to create a full time safezone because you'd have to always have guards. Even if you'd have people from different timezones. This would get boring.

Possible only with very large server population or with NPCs.

Haha, I like how OP thinks he can convince everyone in the game to do such a thing.

Communication is the problem. You do know not everyone speaks English right?

Also what's stopping bandits from killing everyone there?

Damn I know I would try to walk off with free loot.

If you can remember, there were some missions in ARMA 2 whre you could build small bases in order to improve you survival chances against assaulting troops.

Would be great to have a few walls and a couple of spotlights within your night camping.

You enter the safe zone when you either press ALT-F4 or ESC / ABORT. The only safe zone at the moment... jk

If you want to establish a safe zone/camp you have to have a 24/7 watch otherwise it will be looted/entered and ignored the moment nobody of the "ruling party" is there. Actually it will be attacked the moment another group notices it...

Safe zones would just take away the feeling of rawness that this game has. So "NO TO SAFE ZONES!!!"

Having safe zones/trading areas is a little pointless when there's only 50 or so players on a server. If the game had bigger, more open maps with more players then they might be useful.

Various groups are already doing this - including Fort Haven, which now has 30+ members and is almost ready to go public with a trading outpost of sorts. Feel free to check us out:

NO NO NO! Thats why WarZ will suck balls, because it will have safe zones with NPC guards that instantly kill any pvp'ers. And it really breaks the immersion, like you can kill anyone but when you step through the gates to a safe camp and try to shoot someone you are instantly killed by super npc guards... Thats just the worst idea ever.

Would it break the immersion if those were players that kill you for shooting in a player-managed safe zone ?

People would just find a way to come and shoot the shit out of you and take the amazing loot, but its more realistic this way anyway.

I think the OP is suggesting player controlled areas, not NPC's implemented into the game.

Fanboys who can't read past 2 sentences in a row is not an uncommon sight on these forums.
